I remember the good old days when we took the Yellow or Green Line to places.
We still have a trams, right?
Otherwise, one could use Pocket D, RWZ, Mission Teleporter, ferry, zone door, or a base (if available).
There are so many ways to travel already I don't think we need to turn Ouroboros into a travel hub. It's already so much easier to get around in this MMO than others as it is. -
I've been looking forward to Dual Pistols, and now more so since the keynote video from Hero Con. Think I'll be rolling a Blaster or Corrupter with Dual Pistols and Energy manip or Traps.
-
My problem with Ouroboros last night was quite different. I was doing the Willie Wheeler arc on my Crab Spider to get the Paragon of Vice badge for the Marshall accolade. The arc is lvl 15-19. However, even though my character was exemped from lvl 50 to lvl 19, all the mobs in the mission spawned at the lowest level as possible, instead of the highest. So all of the Wolf Spiders in the mission were lvl 1, while the bosses were lvl 11. All gray, no Inf.
Not that I'm complaining about the easy badge and the resulting accolade, but I would have at least liked some challenge and Inf. for my troubles. -
Quote:True, but he served in the USMC up to the rank of Staff Sgt. So he was awarded only one rank honorarily - the others he earned the hard wayR. Lee Ermey is a honorary Gunny, and he played one in Full Metal Jacket.

Quote:That's s fair pointThere are additional factors: O'Neill was a colonel in the air force, where ranks are less connected to commanding large numbers of troops, and SG teams were special forces units that included high-ranking specialists like Carter, who was a Captain when the show first started. SG-1 may have started off with a colonel commanding it simply out of necessity, to ensure the commander had sufficient rank to actually command the people in it.
This refers to the show and not the movie. The movie adds an extra twist to the issue of having a colonel commanding the stargate team: in the movie O'Neill was given the authority to use tactical nuclear weapons. That might have elevated the rank desired for the team commander.
But as noted, the extenuating circumstances are the exception rather than the rule. -
Quote:Perhaps. But for RP purposes, in the intelligence field, you could have some leeway... especially for espionage and top secret missions. My main character for now is Lt. Col send on a mission with a small team(Major as XO and two lieutenants) for something highly secret. Would something like this even be feasible in real life?(as much as I want realism in that part my main character is early/mid thirties so his rank do need to be appropiate for his age(assuming he has a normal progression))

Quote:Yes.Let me see if I get this straight - a Non-Commissioned Officer is someone who enlisted as a soldier and rose through the ranks,
Quote:whereas a Commissioned Officer is more a commander and less a frontline soldier essentially commissioned by the government? Do I have that about right?
Quote:So how likely would it be for a commissioned officer to willingly step out into a fight, rather than standing back in his command centre and commanding? Movies seem to show Lieutenants rolling out with their soldiers, but Colonels tend to stay behind.
Furthermore, aircraft is typically only flown by officers or warrant officers. Enlisted men only provide logistics and support for aircraft (supplies, repair, maintenance, etc.). -
Also a good point and still true today, especially in the medical and intelligence branches of the armed forces.

Quote:Colonels are just short of Generals, and typically lead larger units. For example, a Captain might lead a company, but a colonel leads several companies as a battalion. You can find more info on unit structures here.I of course don't know whether the team size of an SG team is normal for a Colonel to lead, as I saw on wikipedia that a Lt. Colonel already commands 100 to 300 soldiers....
(<<< Former USMC)
Don't go off of SG. I think their reasoning for putting a high-ranking military person in charge of a single squad was basically due to the sensitive nature of traveling to different worlds. In real life, a colonel would almost never lead a squad or fire team his or herself - that's a task for an enlisted person, or a Lt. at most. -
I'm more familiar with USMC rank structure more than anything, but most modern militaries use similar rank structure.
Officers are the military's leadership. The thing to know is that, according to the book, any officer rank is superior to any enlisted rank, although junior officers usually recognize seniority and tenure of higher-ranking enlisted men, especially Staff NCOs (Staff Sergeants and above).
Officers must generally have a college degree or graduate from a military academy to be eligible for officer candidacy. However, it is possible to become an officer as an enlisted man through a warrant officer program. Officers are "commissioned" by the President and Congress to serve for a certain amount of time, and can continue to serve as long as they want thereafter, AFAIR.
Enlisted men sign contracts and serve for their obligated contract term, typically 2-4 years. When their contract expires, they can either sign a new contract to continue their service, and be discharged from service.
Higher ranks are usually conferred with length of service, although it also depends on rank availability. In times of war or other extenuating circumstances, field promotions can be granted by superior officers for both officers and enlisted men. -
Quote:She's affected by the Orestes Rifle. That must mean that she has inherited some form of Incarnate power.Maybe. Maybe not. Nothing in canon says that the powers of an Incarnate are inheritable.
Edit: NM, her powers are granted from the Well of the Furies through her belt. -
I still use it on my tri-form, but don't think I have any of the Nova-specific powers more than four-slotted, mostly with damage and maybe an accuracy. Nova form itself has to-hit buffs and some end mod (AFAIR).

You can file a petition through the menu or just type /petition. A window will appear where you can file your problem. Be as specific as possible so a GM can address your problem right the 1st time.

Alright, here's a screenshot from the tailor from my Archery blaster w/ Weapons Mastery:
You can see the unlocked Council and Nemesis options right in the drop-down menu. If you don't have these options after earning them, I'd file a petition. -
It should be as simple as going to the Tailor, going down to the Weapons section, and selecting the new weapon form a drop-down menu. If the weapon isn't there, I'd bug it. Let me try to grab a screeny to help you out though.
Edit: after my client patches :/ -
Usually, a character would only see these messages if they could use these models in their primary, secondary, or epic power pools after earning them. Some of them use visible badges, but the Council award does not. In either case, if you're playing an Assault Rifle blaster, for example, or if you have Weapons Mastery, you should then be able to find these weapons at the tailor in the Weapons section.

I can't wait for BAB to see this thread, I think he'll have an aneurysm

Quote:Hrm. I could understand Emperor Cole's perspective on this, but Recluse not playing the two sides against each other, and instead using guttural hatred as a motivation, seems low-brow. There again, Recluse has always erred in the side of "brutal evil," as opposed to "cunning evil." He's a good dictator, but he leaves all the hard thinking to others like Aeon and Ghost Widow. Which is a shame - playing two Coles against each other plays right into his hands. At Hero Con, it was stated explicitly that Recluse and Tyrant would hate each other, if they ever met. Tyrant would hate Recluse because, well, Recluse is a villain and Tyrant thinks that he is the savior of his world. Recluse would hate Tyrant because, well...
Recluse: "ANOTHER Marcus Cole... sonuva... wait... and that one actually killed 'me'!?!?!!?"
(That's almost exactly how the devs explained it. I lol'd.) -
Sorry, but I think my opinion of the Undrn3t has been soured at this point. Although I like the concept, the supposedly viral marketing ploy of [u]tagging every darn thread[/url] with "The Undrn3t is everwhere" is completely obnoxious.
And no, I'm not the person counter-tagging with "the Undrn3t is obnoxious", because I find that almost as obnoxious in itself, ironically. Plus I don't have time to stalk all those threads.
For once, I see the "remove tags" argument's point of view. -
Funny, I thought that Primal and Praetoia met up in a single's bar in downtown LA
But seriously, although having Statesman killed would be interesting, they'd have to go out of their way to do it, considering the whole Praetorian story arc surrounding him and that whole gosh-darn Task Force involving him.
No, IMHO I think this will be some sort of spin off the former, his late-game story arc. Of course, they'll have to retcon that arc a bit after the expansion's release to redesign some of the mobs and locations (including the Tyrant hovel cavel), but more likely than not Statesman is still alive, but wants to do what Marcian has predicted - elicit the help of heroes to undermine Emperor Cole's empire through the Resistance.
Meanwhile, Recluse could find a worthy ally in Emperor Cole - or at least a new distraction for Statesman that he can exploit. Cole is a totalitarian but also the perfect equal of Statesman. Although Recluse would never openly admit it, he something to offset his stalemate with Statesman, and may even go so far as to take Emperor Cole as a "strange bedfellow" ally, or at the least, use Statesman's distraction with Cole to his advantage.
Villains, meanwhile, know there could be a profit to an interdimensional war, possibly skirting the line with Arachnos to exploit the conflict... -
Quote:So... what's they pay for a gibbering idiot these days? Am I qualified?I'm going to kill everyone's pony and say that as long as I am on this project, it will never happen. They will have to replace me with a gibbering idiot to get the okay to move forward with animation and VFX needed to support 'underwater' zones.
And then it will take years and ultimately look stupid.
P.S. Aquaman is lame! -
Thanks again for doing the footwork for us Fire_Away, and thanks to Sunstorm et al for the updates and info. Although I was hoping for something a little more near-term, after seeing the posted videos and pictures from Hero Con, it does indeed look like the art team has been knee-deep in new stuff.

Sounds like a minor (but cool) QoL addition. Color me /signed.
