Quote:Neat idea, but sounds tricky. The only way they can do this in Pocket D, for example, is to enable teleport suppression, which obviously wouldn't work in RWZ.Perhaps an alternate answer would be taking advantage of the ship information officer to "sign up" for a raid somehow - split the zone ("Due to increased levels of dangerous activity, Vanguard has raised a defensive field around the ship as well") so that sub-35s can't get to it, and you must be signed up with the officer to get in (even if you just want to try soloing pylons - as long as he has your ID, you can get in.)
-
Quote:By that logic we should just open up the Hive and Abyss to all levels tooBingo.
The problem isn't level 4s in the zone. It's team leaders recruiting level 4s.
And maybe that level 4 wasn't "locking out a level 35" but rather no level 35 wanted to join.
Taking away player options is rarely a good idea. -
Quote:Reasonable calculations used to be provided to NCSoft shareholders; that was the closest thing anyone had to realistic sub numbers. I don't think they do this anymore because players were looking at these numbers too, heaven forbidRealistically, even the devs can't quantify this unless everyone who quits the game fills out an exit survey (and is honest in it).
MMOGchart.com hasn't been updated since 2008, but I think they largely received their numbers from these shareholder reports anyhow.
But back on topic, I'm looking forward to a positive change to this issue, but at the same time, not holding my breath. Some of my more interesting TFs were the ones that had the difficulty bumped up, intentionally or no. -
Word. Use MSConfig to disable AV-related processes and startups and reboot. Run the game and see if it has any problems. If not, you've found the culprit. If so, back to square one, unfortunately. I didn't find much info on Trend Micro having problems recently, unfortunately.
Heh, I wonder if Trend Micro is OEMing AVG? Seems unlikely, but weirder things have happened. -
Quote:I understand where your coming from, and although I see both parts of the argument, in my personal opinion, I think that TF difficulty is only part of the problem. For me, personally, a lack of fresh content has been my sticking point.Quote:
How many people have left the game since this TF change happened? Is there a quantifiable number somewhere, such as subscriptions over a period of time? Or are we begged to take one's word for it at face value?
As I say i16 was brilliant but the longer this drags on the harder it gets.
Obviously, I don't have any tabs on monthly subs; I don't even think NCSoft releases that info in their quarterly shareholder reports anymore. However, I've seen some vacancies in my circle of allies as well. But in my opinion, I think many (including myself) are waiting for GR to drop to reactivate become more active. Especially if one has been running around the game for a few years now.
So although I see your point, I think there may be a few factors for any perceived drop in server or player population. TF changes were just one of them. -

Perhaps, but, in my personal opinion, no less rash than pinning a change which one views as unfavorable upon a host of blameless players in a stereotypical fashion
Just something to keep in mind the next time you post disfavor.
However:
Quote:(...) seems to be totally the wrong solution which has made many people leave the game. -
Think they're just looking for big XP rather than VG Merits. But because they lack a lot of offensive potential, the team will probably suffer since fewer enemies will be damaged/ defeated, resulting in a net loss of Merits for those on the team who can earn them.
-
On topic, I don't think we'll see a change until Issue 17 / Going Rogue.
-
Quote:That wouldn't solve the problem of a mimum gate for X amount of Reward Merits, though. Why should one team that completes a TF at the expected level earn the same Merit reward as a team that runs the same AV with all the AVs at -3 or -4 to their normal level? While true, just because there is an option for abuse doesn't mean that everyone abused it. I can't see why they didn't just leave it as is and let those of us that want to play the game actually do so on proper difficulty.
Hell just get rid of the Mo badges for a while, they weren't there before so it can't be hard to remove them.
Badges are just one side of the coin. Without the current fix, high-Merit-rewarding TFs would just be farmed to death. If someone thinks that the current fix caters to farmers, operating without the current fix would certainly cater even more to them - or rather exploiters (by exploiting an unintended side affect of the new difficulty system), as farming != exploiting. -
Have to agree. Although I haven't been on a MS raid lately, I don't see what a low level character can offer raids, given the difficulty of the mobs therein. Even with SSK, a low level character won't have the powers necessary to do much useful. Melee characters will have only a couple of attacks; support characters will have only a couple of buffs or debuffs. Really they're more of an anchor and liability on a raid team.
Given that the main reason the RWZ was opened up to low level characters was because of the AE system, I agree that the AE should be moved to Pocket D, perhaps as a new wing or in a smaller scale. Once that's done, the RWZ can be returned to a level 35 zone, meaning that MS raids will again be more appropriately manned by characters with small things like attack chains and support powers.
So yeah, color me /signed. -
Quote:Don't be stupid. The fix was to keep players from setting the TF to -1 and running "Master of" Task Forces with very little risk of defeat. If you don't understand the problem, don't use your ignorance to justify your distaste of developers, or your agenda against various playstyles. The latest 'fixes' and 'upgrades' seem to have been for the benefit of farmers and role-players, with little for those of us who play the game as it was intended.
Fighting level 53 and 54 AVs/ Heroes at lvl 49 was definitely not "play(ing) the game as it was intended." -
BAM. Near the end of the thread, there also looks to be a patch that fixes the problem until the next AVG software update.
So yeah, AVG's been hijacking my desktop the entire time. When CoX tries to take back the desktop, Windows says "AVG is in charge right now." Not impressed by AVG, but still, I'll try the patch first before I rip out the AV. -
I've been seeing a problem on my computer with AVG 9 recently. Does this happen every half hour or so?
Edit: read this and see if it compares to your issue. -
Ins't 250 Inf about the same price as certain Inspirations from vendors? We get Insps with Halloween, so the Inf equivalent is just as good IMPO.

Thanks for the info Cath. Perhaps it's time for me to jump ship from AVG also.

Quote:I'm another TW customer on the West Coast. I saw the problem occasionally on Friday for the first time, but didn't play over the weekend. Not sure if it's an isolated incident or something new to report yet.For the past few months I've had extreme packet loss/lag/rubberbanding on Triumph, and I'm a Time Warner/Roadrunner customer.
I've been through several troubleshooting steps from NC Support and Time Warner, replaced the cable modem, had replaced or checked all the cabling to the pole, and have gone all the way to Level 3 support.
This issue does not happen on west coast servers or the training room, or on Zoomtown DSL.
So far, Time Warner won't help as long as the "neighborhood loop" is ok, and NC Support is out of ideas.
As I'd rather not switch to Zoomtown because of occasional service issues, I'm posting this to see if it's a common problem, and if anyone has any experience in what to do about it. -

Found out Friday that AVG seems to have a wonky interaction with the game. Even with Gaming Mode disabled, the problem started to occur. But when I turned Gaming Mode back on, the problem ceased, again.
I might try Avast! or another AV solution to be sure, but if you're having this same issue, I strongly encourage you to contact Support. The more eyes that are on the problem, the better. Mine is just an isolated case without more cases being reported. -
OP, when you can define "standardized" and "casual", let me know. To the best of my knowledge, these concepts are relative from one person to another. Not to mention between sets.

Quote:After some thought, I like the idea. Throw it in for Tanks and Brutes too and we've got a dealFor Scrappers.
I need to wait until we know the powers from the Blaster primary to elaborate on this more but...
Tier-1: Rubber Bullet: Minor Damage: Immobilize: -res
Tier-2: Cryo Round: Minor DoT (Cold): Hold
Tier-3: Ranged Shot: Moderate Damage
Tier-4: Poison Tipped Bullet: Single Target: -res, -def (double the values of Melt Armor)
Tier-5: ?name?: ?PBAoE or Targeted AoE?: Moderate damage -

Are you sure Tony? I cannot connect to the Paragon Wiki nor the Ouroportal.
-
Believe me, I've thought of doing the same. Not like I'm exactly paying for either of these free AV solutions
Going to run more test later to make sure it is an AVG problem and not something else first.
-
Cath, before you go spinning your wheels with AVG's various settings, you could try to use MSConfig to disable AVG entirely at startup and disable its background services. If it works, you can narrow down the problem from there.
Again, only had a cursory amount of time to try the game with AVG's Gaming Mode disabled, so I'm not entirely sure it's the absolute solution. Still, I'm pretty confident that the problem lies with AVG, at least on my rig. Will try to do more testing tonight after I crank out some homework. Otherwise, it might be a few days as I have busy weekend ahead of me (morning Math class on Sat., picking up AC2, going to Disneyland with friends, etc.). -
