Indeed. As tired as I am with the Twitter teases, imminent != immediate.
Case in point: imminent is more like "in the near future" as opposed to "now". -
Anyone else notice the "two weeks two weeeks" tag at the bottom of the thread? Is this something a community rep put there, or just somebody's speculation?
Either way, the Twitter hype is becoming a fething oquetease. -
I know... I want to blow myself up with dynamite also

From Twitter:
Quote:/epic_facepalmCoH_OCR: Star Strider Forces prepare for battle! Rikti inbound! Attack imminent, mobilization required!

Quote:This. Absolutely, this. And don't forget that Stone Armor has two powers that can help here, too.
1) Rooted contains resistance to Endurance Drain, so make sure that that is on.
2) When fighting Psi enemies, drop out of Granite Armor, and turn on Minerals, which gives very good Defense to Psi attacks.
I never have problems with End Drain, and rarely have issues with Psi damage, using these two powers. -
Vote for Obsidius in 2010 is the next Rikti Deity!

One could certainly use virtual servers, but as you mentioned, it's akin to putting all of one's eggs in the same basket when hardware failures are concerned.
Plus there's the obvious problem of hardware stress vs. the number of virtual servers * usage. For current lower population servers, it could be handled by one box hosting 2-3 virtual servers. But I wouldn't try putting both Freedom and Virtue on one box.
Add into the equation of the typical MMO server architecture, and virtual servers can become even trickier. For example, the load on a map server may be greater than that of a database server, making it tricky for an admin to balance cost vs. performance. -

A serious response:
If a merge were to happen in the future, it may entirely depend on the impact of Going Rogue. If the expansion is a hit, and brings players back into the game, a merge is less likely. However, if the expansion fails to bring in old or new players, and the server population remains similar to what it is now, a merge would be more likely.
Game companies don't like to merge servers because it's bad PR and a sign of a weakening game. I suspect that, if some sort of merge were to happen (depending on how GR does), I suspect they might try to go the "serverless" route (if the tech were feasible and less expensive to implement than long-term server overhead) in order to put a positive spin on things, while at the same time possibly reducing the number of physical server boxes in order to decrease overhead.
Edit: that looks like less of a palm and more like a robo-mitten. Where are the fingers? -
Not a big fan of the Arachnos chest emblem unless you're making an Arachnos-themed character / agent. Otherwise, looks pretty shwag to me

I'm nearly at the same point SG. No harm in taking a break. See you when GR goes beta or live

Quote:Regardless of whether the toon can PvP or not (currently there's no tech to exclude certain ATs or powersets from entering PvP zones) the PvE game would still be affected.
Since dual wield blaster set with defensive secondary , is hard to balance in conventional mainstream .
Blasters have very few personal defenses; most blaster scondaries are designed to mitigate damage through status effects, such as hold, immob, knockback, slow, etc. There are very few personal armors for Blasters until you get into APPs. Corruptors are much in the same boat until PPPs come along.
Dominators use ranged "assault" attacks as secondaries; their primaries are Controller-like powersets. Again, no personal armors until PPPs.
Your proposal, if I understand, is to give a Melee AT, with personal defenses above any Ranged AT, ranged attacks (presumably doing damage using the higher-damage Melee Damage Table instead of the Ranged Damage Table). How is this not easily better than a standard Scrapper or Brute on any farm team, dishing at melee-level damage from afar, with ch less repurcussion due to higher personal defense? How is that not better than almost any Blaster or Corruptor in the game, except perhaps those that have been "purpled out"?
This, in effect, would be a prime example of a tank mage, and one of the main reason the current game uses an AT system at all. -
So that NCSoft can make money off of all the people who will want super-overpowered AT sets, making other ATs far less desirable in teaming?

Quote:My thoughts exactly. The only thing we know is that an "imminent" Rikti invasion involving a mothership is on the way.Who's to say it's not i17 hitting test servers? Might not be a simple patch to live.
They've announced the F&F start for closed betas in the past. Could just be a more flamboyant way of doing so to create buzz. -
Quote:/facepalmDual wielding pistol scrappers brutes stalkers ... or just a new class itself.
Quote:But with a twist :P
Make it a booster class buyable , thats not pvpable only pve perspectief.
Since its a buyable class , it shouldn´t conflict with so much balance issues .
And everybody can get it if they really want it . -
Wait a tick...
To be more optimistic...
On the 2008 survey there was a suggestion that there would perhaps be some sort of alien ship that would be part of the post lvl 50 content...
Quote:... and now the mods are dropping big hints about an impending invasion and a "mothership"...For existing City of Heroes and City of Villains players who have previously reached the level cap of 50, the Expansion will take them into outer space where they can now find challenges that test their powers and skills to the max. On an alien space station that mysteriously appears over Earth, Heroes and Villains will race to unlock the secrets of the place and be the first to reap the rewards that are only available to the best of the best.
Coincidence? Or not? -
I tried that once, hence why I don't have it. Hence why I don't want it
Arbitrary rules, etc.

Wow... excellent point. A lot of buzz for another standard invasion event.

Quote:For once, I have to agree. When I saw the Twitter message, I expected the speediness similar to the costume code contest. I was at work, but when I kept watching the forums only to see nothing happening, I knew that when they said "imminent", it really meant to say "Soon™".I keep TweetDeck running on my spare laptop, so I was in Vanguard HQ within 10 minutes of the original tweet getting posted. 40 minutes later, I went away and did something else.
You keep using that word "imminent." I don't think it means what you think it does.
It probably won't happen until around Feb. 2nd by my calculationsImminent, indeed.*
* I would love to be proven wrong. C'mon devs, make me eat my words -
Actually, you know the last mission of the LGTF with the portal? The ceiling of that last room is actually the underside of the crashed mothership. The cave network leads right down to its underside.
