Quote:I read this a while back. It's a decent enough summary without having to re-type it myself.I've heard a lot of bile about former lead dev statesman. what made him such a hated individual? I can't find anything specific anywhere.

Alright then. No issues to report then
Thanks for the help Rent_.

Hmmm... does it look any different? I updated my Test client last night but didn't notice a change in the updater.
-
Color me stupid, but did Ocho even link to the new updater? did I miss it somewhere, or is this just a EU thing for the moment?
-
As a person who also thinks that I17 is a bit light on content...
Don't feed the trolls!
Obvious troll thread is obvious. -
Quote:Caveat Emptor. Customer Support doesn't fix botched local trades between characters, nor do they fix any sort of snafu in the Auction House (bidding too much on items, etc.); I don't see as to how this could be any different. So what happens if the boob (the hypothetical "boob") forgets or typos his global name and sends his much coveted PvP IO that he just spent 3 billion Inf on to someone else? Will there be a means to cancel or recall the email if the recipient (who hypothetically, unfortunately happens to exist) hasn't opened the email and/or claimed the attachment yet? If not, how will NCSoft Customer Support deal with the boob's desperate petitions?

The aforementioned threads have been noticeably pruned from the forums. It's time to get the thread back on track.
Please post your thoughts on Issue 17. Respectfully agree or disagree. Personal attacks are a no-no. -
Quote:Well, I certainly feel this way. Of course, that's just IMPO. Personally, I haven't done AE in a bit, partly due to the difficulty in searching for various missions, partly due to the negative stigma of "AE babies" (as the community has coined), and partly due to the negative stigma of how various players turned the AE into a giant exploit farm (until various changes and stop-gags were placed). Additionally, the AE has always been the holodeck to what I consider the "meat and potatoes" world of contacts, papers/ scanners, arcs, and TFs/SFs - in other words, a fun distraction, but not why I subscribe to the game. Two, her definition of "content" is comically restrictive, and thus worthless to me and many other players.
We haven't gotten anything 'good' since I12? Really?
*rolleyes*
Yes, this is what I personally look forward to. Issue 12 had the excellent Cimeroran content, and it was extremely enjoyable. Since then, though, besides a story arc sprinkled in here and there (as a test bed for Bruce in some cases) and the 5th anniversary TFs (10 missions total, 5 each side), there hasn't been a sizable bulk of content since then. Lots of QoL changes to be sure... but for me, there was no point updating the "quality" if the "life" part wasn't going anywhere story-wise.
Again, this is just me personal opinion. In fact, if and when I do start playing again, all of these little content updates sprinkled over the past few issues, along with GR, and in addition to all of the QoL changes, might keep me entertained for a good while. But I want something to do while looking cool with my new animated tail. I want to be going in-between new missions and arcs as I drink in a cityscape drenched in Ultra Mode. I want a reason to keep several open arcs open.. because they're new canon stories carefully crafted by our developer story writers.
That's the day for which I'll be waiting
As to the derailment of the thread a few pages back, there is no need to feed a troll, regardless of who he/she is attacking. Report and move on. -
Quote:Logical fallacy: poisoning the well. Attacking the debater instead of debating. They're only "light" if we all agree to use your personal incredibly biased & restrictive definition of "content", a definition I explicitly reject.
And to get this out of the way: how odd is it that I find myself defending P_P in this thread when I personally have done the above and more in different threads? Does this make me a hypocrite? Absolutely. Just thought I'd get that out there to disarm anyone. -
Quote:Well, not to put too fine of a point on it, WoW, CO (came around after numerous complaints on Vibora BayI wonder how many free content updates other MMOs give to their playerbase...
), and STO (who were quick to differentiate themselves from CO), to name a few. Yes, WoW has expansions too, but much of their additional content has been through regular patches akin to CoX's Issue releases.
And I agree with Marcian - love CoX, but I also see the big picture. -
Quote:IMPO, Going Rogue has become something of an anchor on the game's development. It seems that so much dev time has gone into it that it is taking away from the Issue updates, especially since the Mission Architect was released. In fact, most of the story content development has gone to GR, meaning that issues since the Mission Architect have been content- and story-light. I think this is my biggest crux with the game at present. Of course, as stated above, this is just IMPO.It's quite simple to me, and I dont really understand all of you. We havent gotten a really good Free issue in a long time, that had alot of really cool dev created content in it.
This issue is light. Some of you are saying things like thats because of GoingRogue... Going Rogue is a paid expansion like CoV. Because we are getting that shouldnt mean that our free issues should be lighter. -
Quote:Here's the funny story from my perspective:New info about GR makes you login to play the game even though nothing has changed yet?
Interesting.
I'm just hear because I paid for a bunch of time in advance. But since January, I can count the number of times on one hand that I've logged into CoH, including the Test server. So really, I've paid just so I can post on the forums - not intentionally, but just because that's how things have panned out. Since I have that option, I'll make a post
Don't get me wrong - the new Dual Pistol set looks fantastic, as do all of the listed features for Issue 17. However, what I'm waiting for mostly is content.
It's great to see a couple of new arcs for levels 20-30 (for each side). It's awesome to see that the Positron TF is (finally!) getting a revamp, and that the Silver Mantis TF will be available to everybody (and not just VGs with a mission computer). It might be enough for me to play a little before GR is released, but I'm not sure.
I do look forward to creating a new Blaster with Dual Pistols that can go to town.. but I want to make that Blaster a Villain, and start him off in Praetoria. Frankly, there's not enough impetus for me to roll him in Paragon City and do the same starting content I've done for so many of my new heroes (and dropping that mission from what's-his-name in the Hollows for the umpteenth time). Even with Ultra Mode, the old missions are still old to me, because I've been here for a while (new players still get lots of mileage out of these missions, of course).
And while I know that Jay is sexy, etc., etc., I know jet packs have been near the top of the costume request list for (literally) years. Not that I won't be getting some mileage out of animated tails (especially my namesake character), but jet packs as a costume piece would not have required a new skeletal rig to connect up. Clipping can't possibly be an issue, since tails will (and currently do) clip with capes. It just boggles me as to why packs haven't been added as a costume option after so much time.
As it is, one could add all of the graphics options, costume parts, craftable powers, and new power sets they want... but without some new ground to tread, I'll just have a pretty-looking character doing the same content that (mostly) hasn't changed since Issue 12. Maybe I just need to pick up the Mission Architect again... but still, I'm just passing time between canon.
So... before one goes on the offensive against other players who are simply voicing an opinion, understand their perspective. I've found myself playing other games and MMOs to pass the time. I do still have hopes for CoX, but I can't seem to log in these days without something new to do, new stories to play, etc. I may just wait until GR drops in July to see what's going on with the game. A new expansion plus Issue 17 might be enough for me to resub once my time expires in May.
Apologies... I'll stop QQing on your thread now. -
Then I suppose Howie's was a close 2nd M&G. I remember seeing Matt & Cuppa there, along with DJ Jester from W00t Radio. Pan was there plugging Auto Assault, and Richard Garriot was also there plugging Tabula Rasa. Wow, to think of what's happened since then in the MMO world

Quote:Howie's Game Shack. I was thereThere was an internet gaming cafe outside of Los Angeles that was the site of a Lineage II/CoH Meet & Greet before the Dave and Busters one.
I remember it because that was where I had my first Monster energy drink, although for the life of me I can't remember the name of the place. -
Bob: Weren't we supposed to be making license plates or something?
Leeroy: WHAT?!? I CAN'T HEAR YOU!

Really depends on the content that follows. DP will be fun so long as I have something new to do.

IMPO, Cowboys & Indians shouldn't be worth this much trouble.
If somebody gets all bent out of shape over your RP, just move on. No need to have it detonate into full-blown Armageddon. -
Although interesting, my real interest is making a Praetorian Dual Pistols Blaster Rogue. Won't be able to do the Rogue part until GR. Maybe I'll just level my Dual Blades Scrapper in the meantime, or one of my villain alts.

Yes, I had to wear shorts, lamentably.

Ad hominem. Attacking the person instead of debating the point. Logical fallacy.

I'm motivated to do one in June. My cousin-in-law is going to try and get me to do one (in San Diego I think), and I'm considering it
-
From how I read it, it's either $30 or $40, but not both. You pay $10 extra, you get $10 of extra things, just like a Booster Pack. Makes sense from their normal pricing standpoint. Also, $30 makes sense for the pricing of an expansionn. Couldn't imagine paying $70 total for an expansion.

Sp there wasn't a lot to say the week up to the marathon. With the exception of the elliptical on Monday, I let my legs rest for the week. This may or may not have been a mistake.
But I did it
Before - - - After
Final Time: 2h 32m
Things went very well up until the halfway point, where my right knee started giving out on me. It definitely slowed down my pace, but I was able to alternate speed walking and sprinting up until the last half mile, after which I pushed myself over the finish line.
Friday when I went to pick up my race tag and complimentary shirt, I picked up some running socks. They certainly helped with the blistering - I didn't develop any blisters until my knee started bothering me. Blisters are pretty much a given for a half or full marathon, but I'm glad I didn't get any until later in the race.
I was also wearing my heart monitor with chest strap. Average heart rate was in the 170s, estimated calories burned was over 2k. I've lost about 8 pounds since I started my workout regimen.
I took yesterday off of work to take it easy, but ended up assembling some new pre-fab shelves and moving some stuff around since my wife and I are rearranging our apartment. Still a little sore today, but it's mostly muscle pain. My knee is much better.
I think next time I'll work out with more incline on the treadmill. There were a few uphill spots, and I think those caused the most stress on my right knee, since it's my dominant leg. I'll be hiting the gym again tonight to work on upper body, and hopefull get back to cardio by Friday... but only running 5k since I don't have to train for 13 miles
Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the results from my first half marathon. I might do one again sometime in the future
And with that... time to hit the Training Room
