Heh, I didn't realize that irony until I thought about it myself while reading this thread. A fashion model with costume parts that Jay said we'd probably never get
There again, there's a lot of runway concept stuff that is never meant for retail. But still, those boots and loincloths would be pretty nice on a few player characters -

Pro tip: on a lot of email clients, you can see the DNS or provider that originally sent the email. For example, if you're getting an email that from "@ncsoft.com" that's coming from Hotmail, it's probably bogus (somebody altering the sender address).

Yep, that's the problem. When the meter stops moving, time to make another level of IO that counts towards the same badge.

My 3D Sound quest with my SB Audigy SE, I think, is a lost cause. Although the new SB drivers that work with ALchemy and in Compatibility Mode will work with other Audigy cards, they don't work with mine. Without new drivers, the game crashes in XP Compatibility Mode. But since the drivers for my particular card haven't been updated by Creative since April 2009, I can't update them on my rig.
It seems I'll be using WinXP Compatibility Mode with my RealTek ALC883 on my mobo instead, and move my sound card into the e-cycle bin :/ It's the only way I can get 3D Sound to work on CoH post I18.

Meh, the last thing SGs need is another reason for Prestige sweat shops to exist.
And since personal Prestige data can be lost if a member gets kicked / leaves an SG, it's ripe for problems and greifing. -
Exactly. Seems they could put the "Hero Only" restriction on the Portal itself, instead of the elevator which leads to it.

This is a strong case towards the suggestions in Castle's thread to create an alternate animation set for DP, something more minimalistic. Everyone could be happy then
-
An interesting argument. I could definitely see it as a consolatory alternative to non-combat quick recovery I've seen in other MMOs.
-
Yes they should, just like I should get eight hours of sleep every night, or like my neighbors should be more considerate about noise at late hours of night. Bus some people aren't considerate, and they don't care because they're selfish. I'm not pointing any fingers at anyone in particular, just human nature in general.
Back on topic though, putting suppression in a non-enclosed space would be a technical quandary. AFAIK, I've only seen it in enclosed spaces (Praetorian Action House, AE Studio B, etc.). -
Quote:Exactly. A welcoming party for the secret Praetorian invasion wouldn't make the invasion very secret.I think it's entirely appropriate and in-genre for you to make your incursion into this dimension in a vacant alley or parking lot. The only way to make it better would be adding some lightning FX and the new costume-change power that makes a spherical pit in the pavement under you.
But I haven't played that far in yet, so I'm not sure how "secret" it's supposed to be.
And the OP chose not to get a travel power and then complains about not being able to get around? /facepalm
Here's the $10 solution, thanks for playing. -
I'm sure one of them will probably include the pop dance seen during GR beta.

I agree, but you may want to post this in the Suggestion & Ideas thread.
That being said, I wouldn't hold my breath, as Bases are low on the totem pole at the moment. -
Quote:Agreed. Given the hindsight, it's weird to imagine the other actors on that list playing those roles. Definitely a memo from early in the casting process. Heck, the character of Worf isn't even mentioned on this list, yet alone being cast. This kind of thing happens all the time. It's fascinating to look back and play the "what if" game with actors and roles. For instance Kurt Russell, Christopher Walken and Nick Nolte all apparently tried out for the role of Han Solo in the Star Wars movies.
Even in your list you'll note that Denise Crosby was trying out for the role of Troi... -
Quote:(Article here)
In a parallel universe, Belgian actor Patrick Bauchau played Captain Picard.
I’m basing that claim on a 23 year old memo that surfaced, on Paramount letterhead, written by John Ferraro, who was then a young development executive in Paramount’s syndicated television division, to John Pike, president of Paramount’s TV division at the time.
The memo, which has surfaced on the Letters of Note blog, lists the people who were being brought in to read for Gene Roddenberry in April 1987 for the various roles. Notably, Brent Spiner and Wil Wheaton weren’t even being considered for the roles at that time, and Wesley Snipes was being considered for the role of Geordi LaForge.
Obviously, this was early in the casting process.
Damn, I could have used this for my "Star Trek - Online Discussion" thread parody -
I did get this to work last night, but only after running XP Compatibility Mode AND using my mobo's Realtek option (I physically removed my SoundBlaster Audigy SE to ensure no IRQ conflicts, to ensure no crashes between CoH and sound driver hooks, etc.).
So the crashing when using Compatibility Mode may be related to the SoundBlaster drivers. OTOH, CoH doesn't really support Windows 7 anymore, at least not when it comes to advanced sound features. Which is funny considering what they've done with Ultra Mode. They removed DS3D for Win Vista and Win 7 without any OpenAL alternative, leaving a lot of players in a lurch. -
Their suggestion, and the only one that works for my particular scenario, is to run CoH in WinXP Compatibility Mode. Unfortunately, nearly every time I close the game when running in Compatibility Mode, the game crashes, and does a darn good job of nearly locking up my system in the process.
I'm basically damned if I do and damned if I don't. -
-
Support wants me to try XP Compatibility Mode. Will I take a performance hit if I do so?
Also, I'm halfway tempted to switch to my mobo built-in sound device (Realtek ALC883). Would that make a difference, rather than using my SB Audigy SE?
Edit: they also referred me here for the "patch notes" for Issue 18. Laughable. The real patch notes here and here don't even list this change, clearly for the sake of Marketing to keep the game nice and shiny, when it seemingly looks like they dropped DS3D without any OpenAL substitute. -
Probably using a 2nd build is your best bet until the Transfer function to Test is fixed. Unfortunately, slotting it will cost you Inf on Live, but if you try it out w/ SOs it won't be as expensive as IOs.

That's what the "Abandon Mission" or "Quit TF" buttons are for. It's a Known Issue.
On that note, if you abandon a mission, you should be able to talk to the contact again and pick it up again, hopefully with the correct destination. -
-
This suggestion comes up from time to time. I'm all for it, esp., for VEATs that end up going rogue. Alternate armor, backpack, and capes w/ the Rogue Arachnos symbol would be nice.
-
Yes, but what about the 3D Sound that broke with Issue 18?
-
Well, regardless of one's definition of Vigilante, we're talking, in technical terms, about a metric assload of:
- re-coding existing contacts and rewriting/ creating new missions for many of the contacts already in the game
- addressing continuity errors where previous contacts are mentioned/ contacted by a current contact
- developing additional branching text/ alternate missions for addressing said continuity errors
- linking "phasing tech" to all of the contacts that have the possibility of being killed through player actions
- other code problems I can't even fathom
And in the meantime, what happens to the Incarnate System, the Coming Storm, the expansion of Preatoria, or other content that needs the attention of the Code and Story teams? Or for that matter, the possible development of CoH2?
Not that I don't like the concept of a retrofit, but the time involved would be quite a bit.
