  1. Exactly the person I was hoping would see this with exactly the sort of info I needed. Once again, I am in your debt sir. This will make selling the idea to the Mrs. much easier, if I can save $100 or so off the CPU alone.

Edit: and thanks for the confirmation and extra link TS
  2. Hello all, I've come to ask for your advice...

I've been out of the computer know-how market for a bit while I've been concentrating on other things, like family and school. However, I got a nice little holiday bonus and have been thinking about (finally) upgrading my Win7 64-bit rig.

I have a decent video card (geForce 460GTX), but what's really holding my system back is everything else, like the Core 2 CPU, PCI-E v1 mobo, and DDR2 RAM. The GPU barely flinches, but my CPU (especially) is slammed at 100% when I play games like DE:HR. So I'm looking at upgrading my 3 core components - CPU, mobo, & memory. Especially since the Mrs. primarily uses the PS3 as a Netflix and BluRay player these days.

I'm pretty comfortable in regards to the specs on the latter two, but when it comes to Intel CPUs, I'm a little confused. I know Core I5s don't support HyperThreading and don't have an integrated memory controller like the Core I7s do, but how important are these things? Are they worth paying an extra $100 for?

Can you help a gargoyle make an informed, yet frugal decision on a possible upgrade to his aging gaming fig? If so, thanks in advance
  3. I always thought the lyrics were:

Bum bum-bum BA DA DA BUM BUM
Bum bum-bum BA DA DA BUM!

Bum bum-bum BA DA DA BUM BUM
Bum bum-bum BA DA DA BUM!

Chica chica chica chica chica chica chica chica
Chica chica chica chica chica chica chica chica

Bum bum-bum BA DA DA BUM BUM
Bum bum-bum BA DA DA BUM!

Oh, wait... it's the Player Questions section...

So, "will this thread get as long as the other 'delete' one?"

    See, I asked a question!
    Good observation

My answer, based on its location, is "perhaps even longer!"

    *leave the thread quietly...
I see what you did there...
  9. Have you unlocked your Alpha slot yet? Once you do that, you can get into some iTrials, which are some of the most challenging content in the game.
  10. As a relatively new parent myself, congrats Turg, and best wishes for your and your burgeoning family

When we wanted power customization, they did as much as they could.

But recently, many players feel like they are being left out of the discussion. PvPers and basebuilders feel slighted because of the lack of developer attention and the disastrous previous efforts to 'fix' the problems, soloers feel cheated by the lack of content, and even those that enjoy team content are beginning to feel forced into large-scale raids that many feel are against the feel of the game.

    I propose a solution:
Have an annual election to elect players to a position on the Players Board. This will function much like a board of directors or Cabinet, but will have no authority status over other players. Instead, the board will essentially be signed into a permanent beta status, and will function as a representative of the playerbase to the developers. The developers would be obliged to consult these players on the nature of future content and on the direction of the game. Because of the nature of this, these players will probably have to sign an NDA.

Essentially, we will finally have our place at the table. Instead of waiting till bad ideas are almost released, such as the empyrean limits on new Incarnate powers or the Super packs, players would be able to say "That's a BAD idea!" before any content gets coded or sent to the test server. Hopefully, this will eliminate complaints of developer deafness and would allow them to still have some amount of surprise for the majority of players.

    Any thoughts?
Reminds me of the Lighthouse Lounge, except players were hand-picked by Lighthouse. It was the first place were some key players were let known that NCSoft was planning on purchasing the rest of the CoH IP from Cryptic during the big reshuffle from the Freem Fifteen to Paragon Studios.

That being said, it worked for a bit before certain players abused the privilege of the Lounge as a forum for every minute suggestion or idea he / she had. On the other hand, the idea of purchasable server slots came from there, and not too long thereafter, became a reality. So some good came of it.

Overall, telling a select group of posters that they are above the regular cut goes to some peoples' heads. In the end, a lot of egos started head-butting each other in the Lounge, and eventually it fell into disuse well before Lighthouse left for other opportunities.

This is an ignorant remark that doesn't take new players into consideration.

This is an excuse for bad forum etiquette.

    Any questions?

Also, I'll just beat someone to the punch by stating: this is a crappy post by a crappy poster. Insert other ad hominems as desired.
  16. Looks like a path aura to me.
  17. Less than two hours! Time for your last-minute bids
  18. I am in ur auction, upping ur bidz.

Obs might be able to pic up some last-minute holiday gifts - either that, or I'll see how badly some people really want these items
  19. Hey dug

Well, Zwill's gone on record that we'll still be getting one new free powerset (that serves multiple ATs) with each issue, and paid sets in-between.

Personally, I'm OK with this, since we're arguably getting more powersets more frequently with this new scheme. Remember how long players waited for Dual Blades and Shields to come out? Now wer're getting new powersets every few months at the least.

In the past, the various boxed expansions, in addition to subscriber fees, helped fund powerset development, but it looks like the F2P model will allow faster development. As a guy who purchased TW weapons, I couldn't be happier. IMPO, it's a win-win for Premium and VIP players alike.

The Trials work differently, most likely due to the participation metric (there is no participation metric in a TF).
Also, a TF is a series of missions, whereas a Trial is usually just one long mission. Therefore, the participation metric will be different between these two activity types.
