Quote:I personally disagree. I've broken your inductive reasoning. Then again, a recent study showed that generally people like stories better when they're told the spoilers in advance.
Personally, I'd like to have a choice before reading spoilers. Without any sort of warning, I might not be able to make a choice and accidentally read something I wish I hadn't. -
You may not have trolls or giants to help you out, but I know a gargoyle...

Quote:The UN chartered Vanguard, so it very much still exists in Primal Earth. Location is still indeterminate. For that matter, we don't even really know what the state of the U.N. is in a post-Rikti-War world.
Edit: I'd assume that Paragon City is about the same population as modern-day New York, but with the "boroughs" lost during the Rikti War, Arachnos, Faultline, the Banished Pantheon, Crey, etc., I personally doubt it would have that many people. Perhaps half the population? All just speculation, obviously.
But to answer the OP, I can think of no reference that clearly states the population. Even if there were such reference, with the loss of Galaxy City now, that number could have easily changed. -
Quote:IMPO, just adding a "Spoiler Warning" to the thread title or the message post (before the spoiler discussion, obviouslyHow Do We Protect Spoilers?
This is a tough question to answer. Vets obviously want to be able to talk about their game freely. Newbies (presumably) want to experience the game the first time for themselves and then join in the discussion with the vets and give their own fresh viewpoints on whatever it is.
Paragon Wiki (and probably wikis in general) has a pretty neat mechanism where you can tag a piece of information as a spoiler and it's hidden until the reader clicks on it. The readers decide for themselves if they want the topic spoiled.
Alternatively, it may simply be enough to put the word *SPOILER* in the thread topic as someone did just recently for a discussion of the Underground trial. Is it worth asking Zwilllinger / Avatea to ask about having the forum software modified to create a

tag or something similar? Are there some conventions that we as a community could adopt that would help people who want a spoiler-free discussion to read a thread and still have warning to skip a post or series of posts to avoid spoilers?) works just fine. Adding a forum spoiler mechanism would be icing.
I'm not one of those guys who believes in moderation or infraction points for posting spoiler content, just a guy who believes that, if you're talking about a plot point or a reveal in a story arch (or over-arch), giving some fair warning should just be common courtesy. People "in the know" should be able to discuss things between each other without having to resort to social groups, etc. Just give players who play for the story lines some warning before the read something they can't unread. -

Just returned myself, but I'll be in and out between RL matters

Batz! Turbo! Heya guys
Good news everyone! I finall filled my Alpha with a basic Cardio, thanks to Shard drops while doing Alignment tips. Not sure what personal time is going to look like, what with the baby on the way and a wife to keep company while she's bored on maternity leave, but I'll try to pop in when I can -
Just be sure you do put in the correct name of "Triumph Watch 2.0", otherwise you will be joining a global channel where you're the only member.
-
Right. Nomenclature. This is what I get when I assume people already know the proper channel names
-
Could be a problem with the global chat server. Know they were having issues with the Beta Account server, so not sure if that's related. Hard to tell from here in the office
-
I guess with this set, any character could be a time lord
-
Yes, there was an announcement about it at 9pm.
-
It IS showtime! Gonna need to at least run a LGTF and a Mothership Raid to get my basic Alpha ability
-
Huh... I never thought he was a Phalanx member... at least not a full-time member. Like many Heroes of the City, I thought he was a reserve member.
-
You're not traveling outside of the tether range, are you? There's some sort of server limit to how far away you can travel from a pet before it auto-respawns closer to you. If that's what you're talking about, I think changing it would be non-trivial (might increase server load or somesuch).

I wonder how this will work with the new Freedom system. Hoping I can shirk off some of my less useful rewards for these two handy items, since I wouldn't normally reach 84 months until early next year.
-
Something else I have to re-learn... all of my MM binds
But yes, the goto command can be used on all of your pets, a certain type of pet, or individual pets. Goto there and go Passive = what you want (AFAICT). -
Thanks. I only have an hour before I'm done with work and now the anticipation is killing me
Edit: balls, I have to go out with the in-laws tonight to pick up a rocking chair for the nurseryOf all the days.

I think the better question is: Why is Positron so interested in BAB's wiki page?
WHO WILL DIE?
-
You have all of my best wishes W_N towards your son's quick recovery
-
Thank you all for your words of encouragement
My wife will be at 40 weeks next Wednesday.
-
Told you I was keeping all my crap for a reason.
Also, thanks for that ITF run last night Gav. Two more pieces and I can finally put something basic in that Alpha slot and work from there -
I kept all that crap, even the 300M Inf I won from a writing contest before I took off. I'm evil like that
ThanksObviously anxious, nervous, and excited that I will have an Obs, Jr. running around soon!

Since last night. But a good read either way

I'd like to start off with a short letter to NCSoft:
Quote:So yes, I've returned for CoH: Freedom. Actually, I probably would have waited until it launched before getting back into the swing, but since my two friends are using their free 30-day passes now, I had to make an early re-entrance. And just in time too, apparently, according to the VIP beta starting todayDear NCSoft,
If you have any Community Rep or Marketing positions open in the future, I'd like to recommend that LeatherPup and TempestMaster be your first candidates. Not only do I believe that their sole objective during SDCC was to get me back into playing CoH, but somehow they managed to get two of my friends interested as well - one who hasn't played in several years, and another who is a completely new player. Not sure how long they'll stay, but LeatherPup and TempestMaster sold us on CoH: Freedom, and now my friends are trying out the game now before Freedom is even out. Of course, open bar and yummy hors d'oeuvres at the Meet and Greet didn't hurt either
Also, thanks to Brian, Matt, Andy, Nate, Melissa, David, and the rest of the NCSoft crew for being very hospitable, even to a guy who all but wrote off their game almost a year ago
Kindest Regards,
Obsidius
Looking back at my parting post from last October, I remember some of the reasons I left, but also understand that Freedom was probably a huge undertaking. That being said, I went down the laundry list of pet peaves to see what the score is:
- Bases: still a WIP. I almost forgot about the "All Your Base" Issue that never materialized until I read through some of the more recent Base posts. In all fairness, it's probably not easy working with a half-baked system designed by a dev team that (mostly) only stayed around long enough to launch CoV. It would probably take at least a whole issue to fix bases. I say start from scratch, but that's a whole other debate / thread altogether.
- AE: still a quagmire. Like bases and PvP, no comment from the devs re: AE during SDCC. I just want to say I've seen a similar system from another developer that seems to work better, major content releases notwithstanding. Rewards in standard AE missions look cool on paper, but they could be harming your system in the long run. Again, a whole other debate / thread altogether.
- Market: it's still a give and take. Rare salvage seems to cost more these days, but the more common and uncommon stuff seems to have evened out. I'm just glad Incarante salvage isn't something trade-able on the market.
- Intrinsic Motivation: A change in mindset: If I'm the team leader, my friends can play at my pace. Otherwise, I'll be there to help my friends, they can run at their pace; I'll keep up
- Community Reps: Sad to see TheOcho move on, but Zwil seems to have a handle on things. And IMPO, a better handle. Posi's doing a great job too in re: to CoH: Freedom info and responding to the CoT costume changes. So overall, an improvement from almost a year ago.
- Super Boosters: With CoH: Freedom and their complimentary VIP Points, they've taken care of that "double dipping" feeling I got with some Super Boosters, especially the Party Pack. It might cost more points overall for some packs, but now we'll be able to pick and choose what we want, and what we don't. I'll be very curious to review the store (in more detail than at SDCC) tonight when VIP Beta opens
I've decided to also make some changes to my playstyle:- Be more casual: I don't have time to manage a big SG, an SG site, a YouTube channel, etc. It's how I got burnt out between all of that, excessive beta testing (getting bored with new content before it even goes live), keeping up with the game, etc. I'll be here, but I'll be in and out, even if that means going to a F2P account if need be. I'll be checking out VIP Beta to get a look at the Market, but apologies in advance for not wanting to test content. It's how I got burnt out on Going Rogue before it even launched.
Not to mention that, by the end of the month, I will finally be a father. As you might imagine, between that, a full-time job, and (possibly) part-time college, I might be a tad busy
- Mentality: t the end of the day, it's a super hero video game. I might leave some constructive feedback, but I have better things to do than get my panties in a bunch about the state of bases, AE, etc. I'll let someone else worry about making those posts. I'm just going to try to enjoy what I can and not worry so much about the other stuff. The Dude abides.
One last parting quip on this post:
<Shakes fist>
But in all seriousness, thanks for welcoming me back 10 months in advance GG, and everyone else who bid me a fond farewell on my previous post in this subforum - Bases: still a WIP.
