I was watching the recorded Issue 21 Launch Stream-a-thon - Part 1. Zwill & Positron was talking about Power Customization in regards to a question about customizable Granite Armor (near the 54 min mark). The short answer was that continued proliferation of Power Customization was "not a current focus" because resources could be better used to make things like more powers. Later in the podcast they talk about the new Rocket Board and perhaps expanding to other board-related travel powers for purchase in the future.
Although I've become a bit more even-keeled about CoH development, this stance struck me as a little disingenuous. Hear me out.
Here's what I mean: for example, Travel Pool powers have no current customization. Fly poses are already in the game, but so tricky to use that they'll be beyond the grasp of many players. A lot of players would like to get rid of the Hasten pom-pom hands or the Super Speed blaze trail, but can't. And yet, NCSoft will be happy to sell you a Rocket Board power (and perhaps other similar powers in the future).
Obviously, this isn't an honest comparison, since the Rocket Board locks out other powers in use (whereas one can still attack when using Fly, Hover, etc.). Nevertheless, as demonstrated by the Intrepid Informer article, even using tricks like borrowing animations from Prestige Power Slide, it took quite a bit of dev time to produce the Rocket Board (perhaps not as much to add PwrCust to Fly). I'd argue that the main reason is because NCSoft can sell a Rocket Board, but they'd have to give out proliferated Power Customization for free (well, in regards to the Market anyhow).
My only hope is, that with all of the money coming into the game now that the Paragon Market has launched, that this issue will be revisited, especially for Travel Pool powers.
Powers still lacking Power Customization:- Granite Armor
- Pool Powers (Travel and otherwise)
- Soldiers of Arachnos powers (besides weapons)
- Kheldian Powers
- Patron Powers
- Epic Powers
- Probably others I missed
Am I off base? What do you think about my assertion? How do you feel about the future of Power Customization? -
Already summed myself up here. Needless to say, when I get more keyboard time (that doesn't involve homework coding for school), I'll probably buy more points (at least $15 so I can get another Reward Token
).
Edit: when will be able to buy RL swag, like t-shirts and buttons, on the store? -
Had 1350 Paragon Points. Bought:
- School Backpack (80 pts)
- Costume Slot #6 (800 pts)
- Permanent Cape Unlock (160 pts)
- Permanent Aura Unlock (160 pts)
Spent: 1200 pts
Remaining: 150 pts
I may buy more points later when I can play the game more, but between school, work, baby, sleep, baby waking me up from sleep, etc., time is something I don't have a lot of for at least the next few months. Heck, it took me over an hour to do one respec because the baby woke up
At least I filled up my Wish List -
If you have an account tied to a standard credit card (not being paid by game time card), the subscription will always auto-renew (AFAIK).
What you'll need to do is "Cancel VIP" and then resubscribe with the new renewal cycle of your preference (when the Account Management page comes back up that is; looks like it's undergoing maintenance currently). -
I'm fine with the new color. I can read it.

Quote:Nothing world-ending, I assure you. But if someone is planning to extort me so I can have my namesake, they're sorely mistaken.I'm picturing your avatar saying that last sentence, and I suddenly get an ominous feeling. Y'know, like when you wonder what would happen if the world were to end in an instant...
On the other hand, if someone were to try that with me, I would be pretty flattered that they would think of me that way, or think I have gobs of Influence lying around
On the third hand (don't ask), if someone just wanted a cool name, I can't blame them
Hopefully I'll know more today in any case. -
I did not get Obsidius.
I'm looking at obtaining it from the person who has it. Otherwise, I have a plan; something I've considered doing for a while anyhow. -
Can't think of any of my characters that could use the Rocket Board, but the Backpack? Definitely
Maybe I'll buy Beam Rifle too
-
That's my guess. Edit: confirmed
Of course, when I read "VIP", I think of Revenge of the Nerds II
Now where the heck are the avatars? -
What's up with the funky gold name?
Edit: oh hey, I have one too. I thought they were white. Is this new or do I need more coffee this morning? -
Word. Not the smoothest launch, obviously, but Zwill was a trooper. And I thank everyone else at NCSoft for actually getting the servers online. GL with the Paragon Store maintenance today so we can all go shopping
-
I had to reset my game password (to what it was currently set at) to regain access to the forums. Apparently, YMMV.
-
File a Support ticket about it. If the same person is griefing names from multiple players, you might have a case for a GM. There's no point in not trying, in any case.

Quote:Thanks for the tip. Hoping making a placeholder or two on Exalted (wjen the servers come up) doesn't become a major PITA.It's been noted in the bugs and Player Questions forums, and someone said that they mentioned it at some point during today's Ustream chat. A solution to it is to log into any other server and then back out, and that may reorder the server list to let you access the two that were inaccessible.
-
So is anyone else having problems scrolling the server list? Obviously servers are still locked, but when I use the scroll bar to scroll to Exalted, it returns straight to the top of the list :/

For normal leveling (not AV fights):
- Obviously, take your pets as soon as possible.
- Make binds for your pets. Look in the Guides section for more info re: keyboard binds.
- Web grenade and Caltrops for light control at low levels.
- Force Field Drone and Triage Beacon will save your bacon.
- When you get a high enough level, the Assault Bot makes a great attacker. Leave all your other bots in Follow/Defensive. When enemies retaliate on the Assault Bot, the other bots will jump in.
- Poison trap, Poison trap, Poison trap!
- Powers I personally skipped: Rifle Blast, Rifle Burst, Seeker Drones, and Time Bomb. Some people like the Seeker Drones though. Plus, my build is still pre-Issue 20, so it might not be accurate to post (I normally don't post builds anyhow).
Those are just off the top of my head. Enjoy! -
Somebody went crazy with an Erector Set and black spray paint
-
Please do so. My first villain when CoV rolled out was a Bots/Traps. Problem is, he spoiled me so much that even my Crab Spider with all of his AoE attacks and pets pales in comparison

Quote:That's hyperbole and a half. Besides, MARTy might disagree. But that's another story altogether on one or two other threads.I absolutely disagree with the "Death gives you a buff." And disagree more with them stacking. Why? It takes 5 hours or so to get to 50, *without* exploits. The min/maxers would be *all over* this. A few hours - even "taking longer" each time - and getting PL'd each time for a fairly decent buff? Meanwhile penalizing those who are actually *happy* with their characters and DON'T want to go through this?
That being said, I'm not keen on the idea of a permanent buff. Even for a trivial buff, you will have some players upset about the amount of work entailed in giving a charcter all of the buffs they can get.
However, I would love an option to re-roll a character without loosing badges and SG honors. Obviously, the devs intend for some badges to be earned over and over again for every character (like Accolades), but some badges take quite a bit of work to receive (game anniversary badges, special event badges, etc.). Influence and Enhancements can always be relocated, but badges cannot.
So count me "partly in" on this idea. -
Galaxy City. The red-headed step child of the devs, ignored any time they put in something new. While AP got the WW and AE buildings, the Vanguard base, the Ouro drop-off, etc., the only thing GC ever received was an Arena - and we all know how much those are used
The devs let GC die, the spiritual home of the Paragon Regulators and home of one of the baddest-a$$ characters in the game, the Back Alley Brawler.
The irony being, of course, that they're using the zone now by destroying it and making a new tutorial out of it :P And all I wanted for the zone was a Wentworth's or something -

Pocket Mods - the "armchair quarterbacks" of forum moderation. They browbeat posters with forum rules instead of using the Report button. -
Brings up a good question that might have been addressed elsewhere: did Jack Wolfe move to AP, or is there a new contact with whom we claim earned respecs?
-
Galaxy City was the spiritual home of our SG, so yes, I will miss it dearly :/
That being said, it's understandable that the devs would want one primary zone for starting characters, to increase low-level concentration while removing mission doors. The improvements to Atlas Park are gorgeous, so in a way, it makes up for the destruction of Galaxy City.
My 2 inf.
PS: Also, if you want to see "old" Atlas Park, just head to Recluse's Victory, since that map hasn't been updated at all. Of course, you'll need it to be under hero control to reminisce -
