Quote:Desired or not, with the animation times for form switching and the number of changes required to truely capitalize on Tri-Forming (and I speak almost always of the Warshades not the Peacebringers) it wouldnt take much buffing of human form attacks to bring the human damage potential into the same realm of the tri-former.Again, that is not the desired goal of this buff. Human form damage will never equate to nova form damage. Human mitigation will never equate to dwarf mitigation except under lightform with all the shields turned on, but that's true now.
I simply do not see the benifit of doctoring an AT or set so that alternative methods of play become as efficient as the ones that appear to be intended. To me it's very much like asking for extra MM damage to compensate the MM's who desire to run without pets.
That is an exageration of course but it's a similar form of thinking where we do not attempt to maxximize what we do have but instead try to alter the set or AT to fit our own playstyles, and thats simply not how games like this work...most of the time...
If my petless master mind or toggleless scrapper can't do the game on the lowest setting (or even if I can) it's because I have elected to forgo specific powers created to make my survival and success easier, and the fact it's inconvienient, clunky, or not my prefered has no affect on that at all. We simply are not playing a game of make whatever strikes your fancy and you will do just as well as anyone else, and I don't think we should be.
I simply do not like the idea of catering to alternative builds by changing power sets and AT's unless we are all happy doing this with each and every set and AT in the game.
I honestly hate dissagreeing with you Bill because I really do respect you but I simply cannot get onboard with this sort of change. -
customize me intruiged...
I am now interested in what appears broken but I will not derail your work by asking.
I await the number crunch. -
Then I have only one remaining question.
If you can attain similar or close enough to par numbers on a purely human form, then what would be the reason to use the restrictive nearly bind/macro required forms on what was seemingly designed to be a shape shifting AT? -
I would feel much better about this if it was not going to take twice as many people to attain my old performance levels (inherant wise) to improve human only builds.
If (again) I were to come to the scrapper forums asking them to make my toggless scrapper build more viable by improving the ressists of passives to even remotely close to what a fully toggled scrapper had I would get similar responces to what my feelings are over your proposal. Your choosing a different build for athstetical or concept or playstyle reasons (nothing wrong with that) and your going to have to expect a certain level of reduced play results.
That is all dependant of course on the fact that currently the developers DO want players to use the forms to maxximize their play. If they do not in fact then it's all open for debate. -
In truth your proposal would adversely affect tri-formers by reducing the bonuses for the inherant while only giving buffs used by primarily human only and human dwarf bi-formers, the fact you feel this is acceptable does not erase the fact it is a nerf.
-
-
It really wouldn't at all (other than nerfing the inherant which on smaller teams would affect me) but I truely loath the thought of kheldians becoming another toggle up and forget it basicly human AT instead of the shape shifting alien fill in the gaps AT I believe it was designed to be.
I enjoy having to weight the pro's and con's of what form would be the most advantageous in this or that particular situation and I personaly find it alot more complex and decision heavy that the humanish types that have access to all their powers at all times.
In short, I guess i would just hate to see the shape shifting Khelds become the slower more clunky method of play because human form got enough buffs to be competitive with the builds that require more active decision making on what powers you choose to have access to. -
Quote:Though I dissagree with your views, (I would prefer to leave Tri-Forming as the way to play most effectively) I do not find it surprising that people on this particular forum are willing to negative rep you for a different opinion than theirs. You should see some of the festive rep hits I'm receiving for this push for change.
I find it a sad truth that here, facts and figures as well as differences in opinion will be argued and dissmissed out of hand without any logical debate soley because some do not like what you have to say.
I believe you are correct about the discrepancy, I just prefer how things are now, but I see nothing wrong with your attempting to change things even if I do not support it, and find the negative rep hits particularly juvinile. -
My intent was only to relate what was explained to me by my friends who very recently spoke with Castle I believe it was this year, and Sunstorm? at last years hero-Con.
There is no speculation or guessing on my part. That is simply the information that was given to them.
Now since that information was given I WILL speculate and say I believe any changes made will not "just" improve or nerf human form as I believe any changes made will be with the intent to keep the balance of power between human only, bi forms and tri forms at its current ratio.
In short I don't believe we will see any radical (or for one style of play or another) changes at all.
If you currently feel nerfed or gimpy I would expect you to still feel this way and if you do not I would also expect you to feel no different after any (if there even are any) changes. -
Oddly enough I find myself normaly agreeing with you on nearly every subject as I find your fact and number based comparisons dead on, I do dissagree with you on Kheldian matters.
I believe there should always be a large drop off in performance when you attempt to take any AT/power set in a direction away from it's intended use.
Just as I would expect to lose performance on a Tank or Scrapper by skipping some or all of the toggles, I would also expect a (substantial) drop off in performance when one or two Kheldian forms are skipped.
I do not believe allowing people to opt out of the forms with only minimal performance difference should be allowed any more than a retooling of the Scrapper AT so that people can opt out of using toggles with only a slightly lower degree of performance.
I believe Tri-Forming's "clunkiness" as I think you called it, is what we use to pay for the additional benifit in damage and protection. If human form damage was improved I would only truely back the idea if Squid and Dwarf damage were improved by the same degree to keep the extra effort of Tri-Forming equal to the benifit we gain from using the forms.
Again, this is just how I percieve things. -
I just got done talking to a couple kheldian friends who attended hero con the last 2 years and got a chance to speak with both Castle and Sunstorm on nearly these exact points.
The consensus that was explained to me was that the devs WANT people to use the forms because the shape shifting "IS" the Kheldians schtick.
"IF" this is an accurate rendering of the devs philosophy on Khelds then I think your best bet is to attempt changes to make the shape shifting less "clunky" (and I personaly don't find it so) and not try to make full human builds the easier to play and nearly/as profficient as Tri-Forming Kheldians to appeal to the people who do not like Kheldians but want a humanish blaster/scrapper hybrid.
Just my 2 cents. -
I am personaly very annoyed by the sheer number of new features to which Kheldians are simply not a huge priority on.
If it is a true AT it needs to be included as such in ALL new features not back burnered because not enough people play them.
Either put us in the same priority catagory as the other AT's or remove Kheldians from the game.
I'm tired of being a second class citizen in paragon. -
Quote:This could be the first time I have read something Bill Z has said and wondered, "Has he even played a Kheldian before?".Course, only being able to solo on lower diff levels also causes many to avoid the AT completely.
That's where I see Khels. Barely good enough at a lot of things.
And yes I know he has but how such an experienced and savy veteran player can have such a different play experience than me leaves me boggled.
I most commonly solo on a +2/x5 setting when I don't feel like working hard, and ramp up based on how good a workout I want to get.
This is far from only on the lower settings by any definition. -
It's the same as getting hit with a mezz on a scrapper while your activating your status ressist toggle.
If the power isn't fully activated when the mezz lands it mezzes you.
Same with every other status ressist toggle in the game, fully intended and not a bug imho. -
Quote:The teams I join already enjoy having Kheldians on the team and soloing is already trivialy easy even on higher settings and set for 4+ players (or +2 set to 2 for my SO only build).Regardless, this would work. Teams would really enjoy having Khelds join them, I believe, *and* Khelds would certainly have an easier time soloing
My only objection to this line of thinking is it proceeds from a point of view that Kheldians need to be fixed. PB's could use a small boost (very very small) but Kheldians are in no way broken or in need of fixing.
If the Kheldian AT's do not appeal to you the simple solution is don't play them, not redesign the AT so it fits your playstyle preferance. I know this because it's exactly what I do with the VEAT AT's. -
Now that I got my "neener neener" out of the way i'm seriously really wondering what your trying to advocate for now.
Your initial request was something to make it more team friendly and now i'm not sure what your looking for in changes. Seriously.
P.S. From the Heats are fail thread, not all people who look for performance find Kheldians lacking.
There is a definante middle ground between the performance nazi's you think are ruining the game and people who just like to build something they enjoy in the most effective manner and i think you often miss that fact. -
You mean "moar damage"?
Carefull, this can get you burned at the stake by some people...oh wait, you have your own torch.
carry on... -
I find the proc very usefull in nova form.
What people seem to be forgetting is that on a shade who shifts into and out of nova often, the check is made when nova is activated and THEN each 10 seconds thereafter. In effect it works exactly like it would a click power...sorta.
But the only thing you need to know to make your decision is this:
The total damage you do in nova form over your entire playtime will be roughly 2.5% higher with the proc than without it. If this is worth a slot to you then take it, if it is not then do not slot it.
Anything else people are saying is personal taste. -
It would look like this.

Quote:This is my main reason for slotting the purple melee damage set into Gravity Well.I have wondered about the prevalence of slotting Grav Well as a hold. To be sure, I can see the value in that, but considering it's the most damaging attack a WS can get outside of Quasar it seems wasteful to me. Slotted for damage it does ~50% more damage than Unchain (albeit ST rather than AoE) and ~75% the damage of Quasar. At level 50 with a full Crushing Impact set and 2 capped mires it does 754 damage! Ouch! As opposed to an extra 12.4 seconds of hold and 570 damage with a full Lockdown set.
The necessity of holding something longer than 13.4 seconds (GW's base duration) seems like such an infrequent thing that giving up that much ST damage seems unnecessary. Perhaps bumping up the duration to make it stackable vs. bosses?
Not only is the damage insane (not even counting the proc) but the recharge is so high you can still stack holds to lock down bosses. -
From what I have gathered they intend to include Kheldians, MM's, pool powers, and all the other forgotten sets into a patch sometime "soon".
Basicly issue 16.5.
How much we will be allowed to change or exactly in what way we will be allowed to customize is still open for speculation. -
Very true but the duration on sunless mire makes build up look rather anemic and the recharge on that heal isn't any better.
I would still take the two consistant Nova AOE's with the sunless mire over a lowbie blaster anyday.
Mainly I get confused when anyone says "only sunless mire" as it is such a wonderfull power. -
Quote:If you really wanted to make the inherant benificial to PB's I would suggest +Rec as that is the most often complained about "problem" from the Peacers that I have noticed.Seeing as how I didn't even realize we got a bonus, I'd obviously sign off on changing it to something real.
Wouldn't a recharge bonus, however, benefit the two types differently? Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems from what I've heard on this forum that WS would get a hell of a lot more out of that than PB. Maybe it would be better if WS got a recharge bonus and PB got something else, such as a regen bonus (just an example).
Thoughts? -

I could be wrong but most of AlienOne's builds I had thought to be human form only WS's.
I could post my human/Dwarf form cheap build but thats not what you asked for so...
Good luck.
