Quote:Actually, one of the classic first edition D&D modules, I think it was titled "Mystery at Barrier Peaks" involved a crash-landed alien spacecraft with non-magical robots and ray guns.Quote:Interesting, I didn't know that. I guess it's a bit too old for me heh. I guess it just goes to show that giant robots and flying space ships can really exist in the D&D universe.

Or with small ones how they'll levitate off the back. As I understand it the problem is that they've run out of anchor points on the character skeleton, so they just attach the temp power packs to the skeleton's center of mass; the problem is that doesn't change with scaling.

The ability to invite your own characters into a supergroup without having to get someone else to help. Especially important for those of us with multiple one person SGs, like me.

I've liked the idea of changing single target shields to work like the newer Mastermind upgrades since the Mastermind change went it. It isn't like the change would screw up balance by making anything stronger, you can already bubble everyone on the team; it's just extremely irritating to do so. And if that is meant for balance, "balance by tedium" is poor game design.

Quote:True.I always got sort of a spawn vibe off Infernal, and a Dr Strange vibe off the CoT.
One of the nice things about a superhero game is that pretty much anything can fit in. An undead necromancer wouldn't fit in well with a sci-fi setting; a robot doesn't fit in well in a fantasy setting; but in a comic book setting like Paragon they can both team up and fight a psychic brain in a jar and it works. -
Quote:Infernal and the Circle of Thorns are displeased about your opinion of fantasy characters in a superhero game!I agree with you though, it sucks to see a lot of non super hero characters running around, and don't believe what people say, this was ORIGINALLY a super hero MMO, it even said so on the first page of the site (it stopped doing that sometime last year tho).
I think this has more to do with most players playing a CoH as just another MMO and less as a superhero comic MMO.
IE...they make their fantasy based characters in the game. -
Quote:Transgender people don't normally think of themselves as genderless; they are so very certain of their gender that they are willing to undergo expensive and painful medical procedures to correct the mismatch between their body-gender and their brain-gender. They should be addressed by whichever gender term they wish, which isn't likely to be a gender neutral one.i've been friends with at least half a dozen TS/TG people in transition, met probably at least five times that many, and none of them have ever used those words in speech or writing any time when i interacted with them. (As far as i can tell, since i have no idea how they're pronounced.) Which is odd since you'd think gender neutral pronouns would be ideal for people who are between genders or eschewing any sort of set gender identity.
Using "he" as a gender neutral term is a good way to aggravate quite a few women. "His/her" or "their" can be awkward but is less likely to spark angry arguments than using "he" in reference to women or even worse "it" in reference to the transgendered (which, yes, I've seen; and no, it wasn't well received). -

Quote:That's because this game makes heavy use of instancing and has a good chat system; people spend most of their time in missions, and don't usually recruit people by standing around broadcasting. Try joining a global channel (channel search is under the Tab button in your chat box). The first disappointment is that the game feels like a ghost town.
Quote:I will see a handful of people occasionally, but what few people are around all tend to be level 50s -- and this brings me to the part which annoys me most. The vast majority of the level 50s I've encountered seem to treat this game as just another kill-the-monster, get-the-treasure MMO where the idea is to min/max your power potential. They create stupid or boring names (some of them don't even bother to think of superhero names, they use what appears to be a name chosen randomly from a phone book), and can't be bothered to create even the most basic background.
Also, some of those people with dumb names may well be farmers for illegal Inf spammers/sellers; they pick random names because they don't care and don't expect the character to last anyway.
Quote:Reading through the various fora here, people seem to be interested solely in obsessing over "toons" and "shards" and "IO builds" and which "AV" slots out best and other arcane trivia.
Quote:The final straw for me may have been the exchange I had last night with a "50" where I sent hir a message that sie had a few typos in hir background, and helpfully provided the corrections. Sie replied that if sie wanted someone to edit hir background text sie would ask over Global, and that I was now welcomed to (and I quote) "iggy." I was taken aback by the sheer sour rudeness, and it ruined all my sense of enjoyment for the evening. -

Steamy Mist from Storm also helps zombies resist fire, as long as they are near you. And the tohit debuff from Hurricane stacks with your Lich's -tohit, which is nice.
My Necro/Pain and Necro/Therm are only in their 20s, but seem good so far. -

Another benefit of Tactics is its Confuse protection. Yes, Confusion using enemies are rare but they can be a major problem to pet users like MMs when they do show up.

Nitpick: There have been a few new wing types. Offhand, I recall Mutant Pack wings, 2 types of Valkyrie Wings.

Quote:Personally, I've come to suspect that they re-adjusted how the server screen displays server load so that it shows relative load even when not overloaded. A while back they upgraded the servers, and for quite some time after that almost always they just showed as single green dots which doesn't give you that much information. So I think they re-adusted it so now you can see which servers have the heavier load; that both gives the players more information and makes the game look busier (I recall a lot of people ignoring the server upgrade and using the all-green-dots server screen to claim the game was dying. Again.)For example, I made a comment how our servers have been in the yellow or better for the most part since GR launched, and the response I got was something to the effect of "while it's possible there's more players, it's more likely the devs scaled the server's maximum load back to cope with losing players, thus making it appear as though there are more players than before" (paraphrased).
Seriously?

Quote:I'm kind of "meh" on that, levelling is quite fast these days. I'm more interested in the heavy hinting for Animal and Steampunk Booster Packs.According to the newly released producer's letter, it should drop in the next few weeks. Some other interesting news there, as well. My fave -- double XP weekend this month!
Quote:early this year, were going to be giving you a pretty wild new look, and later this year well turn up the pressure. -
Quote:So you decided to take advantage of Going Rogue and side switch to Villain, eh?I also want to take this time to mention that I am moving over to a new role within Paragon Studios to the Business team. I’ll still be here working on City of Heroes (2011 marks seven years for me!), and I’ll still be accessible through the forums. I’m just stepping into a new role, and joining the “suits” so-to-speak.

Quote:It isn't just an MM problem, I've noticed how on my Illusion Controllers Phantasm rushes right into melee range and tends to get killed. Especially aggravating since he hasn't a single melee attack. If you want to play Ninja or Necro then the latest AI change is good. For all the other sets it's bad, even the newish DS. Basically your pets will make the suicidal charges into melee range to engage the enemy more frequently now, even if they don't have any melee attacks. I personally despise this latest change because it basically screws over the majority of MM players (ranged henchmen types) in order to help the few (melee henchmen types).
