On the other hand you have VEATs, which have double primaries/secondaries anywhere from 14 to 18 powers in the primaries and either 12 or 13 powers in their secondaries... So they have the same benefit of extra powers built right into their sets and still get PPPs.

Now, VEAT's don't get Forms, so they don't have the extra form powers (10 total, 4nova 6dwarf) but then they don't get locked out of two travel pools (10 powers).

All in all VEAT's have anywhere from Nearly As Many, to More powers to pick from (Primary, Secondary, Pool, Inherent, Form) PLUS get PPPs, I frankly see zero reason to keep with Kheldians not getting APPs.

Storyline reasoning FOR kheld apps; if a host was already a powered individual before merging with a Kheldian, it doesn't make any sense at all for them to never use the powers they had beforehand again. Having APPs would allow a player to pick a pool theme that fit with the pre-merging host, adding greater depth to resulting character.

*Edit to say: It's not that I'm denying that originally Kheldian APPs were considered "baked in" that part seems fairly self evident, but the game has evolved beyond that, IMO. Yes, Khelds have more powers than normal Archetypes, but VEATs (being the only other AT with a greater than normal number of powers, and thus a metric to compare against) show that the Devs are perfectly fine with an AT having both extra built in powers, and APPs/PPPs.

Same was said about giving Blaster's a self heal (in the form of porting Dark Blast), but that happened, and in fact Life Drain got buffed while doing it.

Yes it would be low hanging fruit, but as such low hanging fruit I'd have excepted it to get put into the last round of Powerset Proliferation*. It didn't. That gives me hope that if Dark Control is one of the "new powersets" that are Dev confirmed to be coming for Doms, it will be a real new powerset with new powers.

*You can't say "Oh well it wouldn't be proliferation, cause the set doesn't already exist on another archetype," cause Blasters have gotten 2 Manipulation sets via PP, and those don't exist on other ATs either.

Around the Suggestions and Ideas forums the AT proposals I tend to see most often are some variation of Melee/Support or entirely different (and generally concept locked) Epic AT proposals. (During which EAT proposals, Techbot Alpha almost without fail appears to mention: All others: Inferior. Rikti Archetype: Clear choice.)

Throw in a Grav/TA controller while you're at it (not that Grav/TA specifically is a bad combo, but rather that that's two powersets that have been begging for buffs for years and not really gotten any).

It's actually longer than Aim, by 5 seconds. (15s duration vs 10s)

About the only powers in Sonic that PB benefits are Siren's Song (enhances sleep duration), Screech (enhances Disorient duration) and Dreadful Wail (again, enhances control duration). Siren's Song's benefit is questionable though, and it's already permanent out of the box and can't stack due to dealing damage.

You can't buff the -Resist, or the KB with power boost.

Mind you I'm not sure how confident that something like this which would make the set interesting for me will happen. The last Assault Set we got was Earth, which Synapse created, and that got "same-old same-old" Power Boost instead of something thematic like Earths Embrace.
I was rooting for Earth's Embrace in Earthen Assault too, especially when one of the devs described it as "tanky" alas no.

I kind of doubt the Mire thing though, since dwarf Mire is itself a tweaking of Soul Drain, which we know we won't get two of. Ultimately we're probably stuck with Power Boost again. Oh well.

I think it'd be nice to have a set that was lower damage, but more survivable (not low damage, but lower damage), and that could work really easily with Dark's theme of siphoning strength from nearby foes.

    (Edited to rephrase something.)

Yeah, a ways back I made, I guess you'd call it a mock-up, of the support sets for a possible melee/support archetype. (Why yes, yes I do have too much time on my hands. How'd you guess?) I modified numerous powers to either be self-affecting (such as changing ally shields [Frozen Shield for instance] into PBAoE buffs [like how Farsight works now])*, or PBAoE toggles instead of enemy targeted (Enervating Field changed to Enervating Aura, etc).

I definitely think changes could(should/might have to) be made to the support sets, were this AT ever to happen. Storm for instance, would be a pretty terrible set to pair with Melee as is. So would Forcefield... Repulsion Field and Force Bubble would be completely counter to a melee AT. Etc., etc.

*This was back before the ally buffs got changed to ally AoEs.

(I also have complete powerset info for a fictional Defense/(control/melee) archetype. Too. Much. Time.)

Mids does not consistently reflect which powers can be PBed vs not. In every case where you can slot Resistance in a power you cannot PB, I think though. It does not work with Frozen Armor because you can slot Resistance in it. It does work with Force Fields because despite the Toxic Resistance component, you cannot actually slot Resistance.
Blaster Power Boost has a recharge of 60seconds (where Dominator Power Boost is 120, just like APP/PPP). An Energy Manip blaster could have perma-PB, though probably not without outside buffs (or an ungodly recharge build).

Wouldn't making it a Melee/Support just make it feel like a Corruptor with Melee instead?

Point is, I don't really care which is the primary and which is the secondary, I would play it like no one's business.

Controllers already get multiple heavy control secondaries. Trick Arrow, Radiation, Storm and now Time Manipulation. I don't see that adding Dark Miasma to that list means a hill of beans.

    5. Shadow Fall stays

    7. Petrifying Gaze changes to Horrifying Gaze -dmg, -res (ST) NEW

    4. Fearsome Stare cone fear from Dark Misma

    6. Dark Pit Foe Disorient (aoe) from Dark Blast
    7. Nightmare AoE Hold New power.
    8. Oppressive Gloom stun aura (self harm) from Dark Armor
    9. Lich from Mastermind Necromancy
This is what I would do far Dark Assault (warning, have not benhchmarked what this power combination and recharge times and damage rations may require readjusting for it to work decently within the set.):
    1. Smite from Dark Melee
    2. Dark Blast from Dark Blast
    3. Shadow Maul from Dark Melee
    4. Gloom from Dark Blast
    5. Power Boost from... all over the place.
    6. Umbral Torrent from Dark Blast (blaster)
    7. Whirling Darkness new power
    8. Darkest Night from Dark Misma
    9. Midnight Gasp from Dark Melee
I think this leaves Controller version of dark misma very recognizable with very few powers taken out of it.
Honestly I would be incredibly disappointed with that Dark Control set. That amounts to powerset proliferation, not a new powerset. There's 1 new power (and a modified pet) the rest is just a rehash of stuff we've already had for years.

Not true. Electric Assault gets Build Up. (But yeah, Dark Assault can't get Soul Drain, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Dark Assault got Lifedrain or Siphon Life as it's "Utility" power.)

Despite the fact that Melee/Support (or Support/melee) ATs are suggested practically every other week?

    Melee/Support AT

Fairly certain that if a Melee/Support archetype were added (which I am all for) they would just use the existing melee powersets, probably swapping out Taunt/Confront for another power (perhaps the on theme S/L or melee shield).

A momentum type mechanic is also highly unlikely, as the powers for Titan Weapons were built with the mechanic in mind, no other sets were so they would need to be completely rebuilt to use it.

Were I designing the AT, I would start with the following and adjust from there:
0.95-1.0 Melee Damage mod* (melee vs ranged opens you up to more damage and you're a squishy, you need to kill fast before they kill you)
    0.75-0.8 Buff/Debuff mod* (Corruptor/Controller, or slightly better)
Inherent: Stoicism - 4mag Protection and 50% resist to Hold/Sleep/Disorient/Immobilize/Confuse/Fear (basically the same protection as Bane Spider armor, enough to prevent getting detoggled by every AoE mez tossed at your other Melee ATs, but not much else)

Toss in all the Melee and Support sets (maybe tweak some support sets to offer more personal protection) and you're golden.

*Alternately you could do Support/Melee for 1.0 Buff/Debuff and 0.8 Melee Damage.
  14. Were you using burnout? Hasten, I assume?

It's entirely possibly for both Hasten and Light Form to crash at the same time, but without Burnout shenanigans it's not possible for light form to crash twice at once. If you're getting a double crash from Lightform without using Burnout then that's a bug, not a weakness.

Note that using Burnout makes the end crash on Lightform worse (indirectly), because Burnout has a -MaxEnd penalty so that 50% end crash is a whole lot more of your overall endurance going *poof* all the sudden.
  15. Dark control wouldn't really be as easy as people think, because it's part of that horribly tangled web of Dark themed sets.

You can't* steal (many) powers from Dark Miasma for it, because eventually Controllers will get Dark Miasma. You can't steal too many powers from Dark Blast or Dark Melee, cause many of those powers are likely to go into Dark Assault.

That doesn't really leave that many powers to cobble Dark Control out of, so really they DO have to build the set from the ground up.

*You could steal all the powers you wanted, but that just means when you get around to proliferating DMiasma to Controllers, or building Dark Assault for Doms, that you've got to make just as many new powers now as you did before, so that saves exactly Zero time.

Edit: Not to mention that I'd prefer Dark Miasma get ported to controllers with as few tweaks as possible (though I do expect Fearsome Stare to drop to Mag2 and get a longer recharge). If we're going to get Dark Control as a "new set" than damnit I want a New Set, not just the same powers put into a different order.

The minimum recharge of Light Form is still 60 seconds, meaning at the absolute recharge cap you could only double stack it (for 30seconds). You're not going to have a double crash. Even if somehow you managed to do it, it would still leave you with capped resist and 50% hitpoints. HP crashes aren't simply a penalty, they're a reset. Crash 1 will reset you to 50% HP, then Crash 2 would do exactly the same. Sure you'd be left with no/very little End but that's nothing popping a blue or two couldn't fix.

Looks really bad considering MA and SS are the "brawler" type powersets. Street Justice just looks like a last minute idea. The best move is the uppercut, and not by much.
Many. many people would disagree with you. Martial Arts and Super Strength both bring specific concepts of fighting style to mind which don't really fit the "unskilled/non-powered brawler" style, and as such many feel limited by them.

There's been people asking for a street fighting type of set for years. While I'm not terribly interested in it, I think it's a nice, polished looking set.

I have a Grav/Sonic controller, and I was doing a Citadel TF with mostly blasters, a fairly smoothy WP tank, 1 scrapper and a pure emp defender (quite a while ago, before buff changes)

I kept my buffs up on all, kept everyone inside my shield as much as I could, and maintained the toggle on the tank, I got 0 thanks, while the emp (the healing aura on auto kind) got "Woah, great heals, barely seeing any risk here" blah blah blah.

This is the problem that buff and debuff sets have, people don't notice when they're NOT taking damage, because there's next to no feedback about it. There's nothing that says "This attack missed you, thanks to that friendly Bubbler on your team." Where there IS feedback along the lines of "Empath heals you for XXX amount" in the form of easily noticeable little green numbers.

If there's nothing TELLING them that you're being useful, they're more inclined to believe that you're not.

  23. Problem being that there is no Toxic Defense, meaning typed defense sets have no defense against a toxic based damage set.

Every attack would have to be split damage types (Lethal/Toxic, Fire/Toxic, etc) so that it checked against an existing defense type.
