Poor Bolin, I just wanna give him a big ol teddy bear hug.

On the up side, the episode did at least give him a minute or two in the spotlight, so he could show everyone that he really is a competent Earthbender, not just a goofball.
  2. I'd probably say Elec/Stone.

Fire indisputably has the best damage, but it also has dots, which can conflict with Static Field, and the set itself doesn't offer any additional mitigation. As Electric/ you also have no real need for Consume.

Electric Assault does offer some additional mitigation (part of which comes in the form of a high mag radial knockback, which Electric Control has no way to prevent), but since they remodeled it's lower end powers is pretty "meh" for damage.

Earth offers both good damage and fairly high mitigation, with every single attack having at least a chance for some type of added control.

I can do that as a villain, because I'm a villain. Longbow should just be honest and admit that they're not one whit less villainous than I am, despite the happy-happy joy-joy white outfits with stars on 'em. Using a flamethower on me reduces them to my level; they should be intent on capturing me and throwing me in the Zig for future study, or to brainwash me into working for them in the future.

Frying villains like a french-fry at McDonald's is not changing hearts or minds. And it makes them villains too, but ones unwilling to admit to themselves what they really are.

    Its hypocritical.
Kinda missing the point. Longbow's use of flamethrowers can no more be considered villainous in and of itself than a PC Hero's use of Fire based power (or Ice powers, or lethal weapons, or toxic chemicals, or radiation, etc., etc.).

If taking Fire Breath alone doesn't automatically make a Blaster a villain, then having flamethrowers cannot automatically qualify Longbow as a villainous organization.

People need to keep in mind that the game takes place in a reality where any number of acts which would be horrifically disfiguring and or gruesomely deadly in real life can and are undertaken by "Heroic" entities (be they people, or organization), and can be essentially shrugged off with the quip "Was that supposed to hurt?"

    (Edited a bit for clarity.)
  4. Can I just ask why "(maybe except for the Shard)?"

Seems to me that the Shadow Shard would be an ideal set of zones to take co-op/neutral faction.

They're expansive (for better or worse), visually stunning zones that are virtually bereft of any content outside a series of truly tedious task forces.

All they need is for story arcs to be made for them, and a better way of navigating (improved the gravity geysers, or just flat out replace them with portals).

See.... I'm the opposite. Hand Clap et all are supposed to be "Get away from me" powers. The knockBACK fits them.

It's the radial knockback in powers like Solar Flare that INFURIATES me. These are ATTACK powers. They're meant to help me defeat mobs not make it harder for me to do that if even somewhat misaligned/misjudged.

True enough, but it doesn't change the feeling that she's his replacement.

Logically I get that if anything she's actually Sister Psyche's replacement, but Sis wasn't really a solo headliner in the manner that Penny is being represented here, that distinction always fell to Statesman.
  7. As much as I like Penny, I really think you guys are pushing her way to hard.

If she was to become a major player within the game, there really needed to have been a gradual build up to it.

You could have put in some tip missions or something where she helps you out as a budding young hero. That would have at least given some measure of visual advancement for her character.

The way it is right now she goes from a virtual nobody to replacing THE face of the game (Statesman). That's just too big of a step.

In light of that, I vote neither. It's not that I don't like the art (though I don't frankly care for Penny's face in either), it's that I don't agree with the subject matter.

But I don't think that adding an out-of-nowhere Resistance debuff to the 'attack' powers is going to work. Personally, giving them a Stun component would be the way to go... it make sense thematically, at least.

    <snip>
See, the problem of doing something like that (Say, we make the stun in Repulsion Bomb 100% rather than the 40% chance that it currently is, and give Force Bolt a disorient component) is that that just buffs the set in an area the set is already strong in; Mitigation.

Forcefield needs a method of increasing it's (team's) offense, not more defense*. Sets like Time and Cold offer "good enough" mitigation while also bringing potent offensive capabilities. Mitigation (be it Defense buffing, or control via Knock/stun) is all that Forcefield has.

*(Note: defense vs Defense, though it doesn't need any more Defense either.)

(Insidently, this last can be included in all the shield powers, not that Cold or Themal shields really need them, though.)
Could be a reasonable option, though if the idea is to improve Forcefield relative to the other buffing sets (which have debuffs as well) then it would have to stay unique to the Forcefield set.

Including such a feature into the Cold/Thermal/etc shields would defeat the purpose, and just put Forcefield right back into the position it's in now, where it simply doesn't bring enough to the table to compete with the other sets.
  9. For the "What would you like to see in Super Packs?" question, I couldn't really think of anything I'd want to see in Super packs, besides stuff we can already get... because I DON'T WANT there to be more stuff I can only get in Super packs. So I just said Account Services tokens (Character Renames/Respecs/Server transfers) and the Storage Expansions (Enhancements/Salvage/Recipe/etc) at Rare/Very Rare.

Those are all things that could be nice to get (And that I'm unlikely to ever willingly pay for on their own), that others can simply buy if they prefer not to gamble on them.
  10. I think what they should do is merge Deflection Shield and Insulation Shield into a single power "Force Shield" (Or something like that), freeing up the Level 6 slot for a new ability. I'd also add a small Absorb buff to the target only, so that you can actually use the power tactically mid-combat to gain an additional benefit.

In the new slot I'd put a new siphon-like power, call it something like Subvert Defenses. Make it a PBAoE Foe -Defense/Resist and PBAoE +Damage/End Discount per target hit. Keep the debuff fairly small (15-20%) then stack the buff to say +25% Damage and 50% End Discount if it hits all targets. Smallish debuff/buff, cause all I want to do is to broaden Forcefield's horizons, not overshadow any other sets.

Then I'd bump the damage on Force Bolt from scale 0.1 to scale 1.0, just like they did on Repulsion Bomb way back when. (Maybe also add bruising, but that might be too much with Subvert Defenses too.)

This would give Forcefielders a minor method of damage buffing (which they currently lack entirely), as well as add some more "active" choices to the set, which is often just Buff->Blast->Repeat.

The only downside would be the loss of a possible LotG slot/ Red Fortune set... but there are power pools you can use for that.
  11. I DO play Defenders.

Several of them, even though I generally solo if I can't find a team of people I actually know already to play with.

I have always preferred, and likely will always prefer support based characters. I prefer Defenders over Corruptors, because I don't like having to wait longer for my Support powers to unlock.

It's already a problem, given that child Penny is part of the Faultline arcs (in the final mission of the zone, even), who's upper end occupies the exact same level range as the Penny TF.

Indeed. Rather than it being some ludicrous notion of his own superiority (not to say that he can't have such a superiority complex), it's an intelligent tactical maneuver. It lets him get into her head without provoking the rest of the world's benders before he's ready for them.

To put it bluntly, the actions of Longbow in that story are the sanctioned policies of Longow leadership, not the actions of a "rogue" element.
    </edit>

Longbow itself is something of a rogue element as it's portrayed in the missions. They've never been anything BUT fanatical, arrogant, and self-important. Tendaji was the exception. Given Longbow's tactics, attitude and questionable legality they are borderline villainy in my book, even if they're deluded into considering themselves heroes.
This is more or less exactly how I view Longbow.

Lords their authority over people, threatens and browbeats people, exploits the system for their own good, looks the other way when their own people do something that would have them locking anyone else up and throwing away the key, constantly uses excessive force, and on and on.

Longbow is exactly the type of "Hero" organization no other Hero organization in the world should allow to exist.

Edit; And I don't even play Redside, so I'm not saying this out of some sort of villainous bias. Playing as a good guy I can say THESE ARE NOT GOOD GUYS.
  16. I'd find it hilarious if they made "Angel Summoning" using the actual description of the types of Angels, rather than the sugar coated "human with white feathered wings*" that's become the norm.

Great fiery wheels covered in eyes; Celestial beings with four faces, four wings and calf-hooves who smoulder like coals; etc.

If anything they'd be scarier looking than Demons.

My namesake character would ideally resemble the truer description of some of the angels(his having six wings and six arms), but of course the costume creator limits that... he lacks any Fire though... being on fire is a very common theme for biblical angels....

*Seriously, how did we go from flaming eye wheels and multi-faced beasts to -- Human.... but with wings.

    Assault Rifle
    Dual Pistol
    Regen
    Sonic Resonance
    Spines
Blaster secondaries besides MM and Nrg
I would put Forcefield squarely into the Really Needs Help category.

It's a two trick pony, where one trick is largely marginalized in the endgame or completely overshadowed by other powersets which bring that and much, much more (defense); and the other trick is oft hated by a sizable portion of the community (Knockback).

Looking at it another way, there are several Defender/Corruptor APPs/PPPs with Endurance management tools. Physical Perfection and Superior Conditioning are just that. They only happen to be Endurance management tools of a different type than the standards; PBAoE End Drain/Self End Reduction buff.

I'd certainly like having a defense based shield for Defenders that I didn't have to go red to get.

    I'd say:

    35) Superior Conditioning
    35) Crane Kick or Cobra Strike (Specifically for having a Natural Origin control option. Cobra Strike could have it's pre-buff damage. Crane Kick could just use Power Thrust's numbers.)
    41) <Shield>
    41) Physical Perfection
    44) Crushing Uppercut (as Hold)

I'd probably go with Crane Kick over Cobra Strike, even though I prefer Cobra Strike, just because Crushing Uppercut would already give the APP a hard mez.

The saddest part is that this was neither the first, not the last time they would attack a naval vessel. Somali Pirates have also launched attacks against the:

SPS Patino - Spanish Navy replenishment tanker

Somme - French naval command and replenishment tanker, Flagship of the French anti-pirate fleet.

    Spessart - German naval tanker.

Now, admittedly all of the above ARE tankers, they just happens to be ones with ship-mounted guns, on-board security detachments, support helicopters, and in a some cases, missile launchers.

    Head Smackingly Obvious warships:

HNLMS Tromp - Royal Netherlands Naval frigate

    Nivose - French naval frigate

USS Ashland - US Naval dock landing ship.

HDMS Esbern Snare - Royal Danish naval support vessel.
  20. Repetitive animations.

Longfang and Channelgun use essentially the same animation and fire from the same Crab leg.

    Same with Venom/Frag grenades.

This leads to the feeling that I'm just spamming the same, single animation over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... etc.

    It drives me insane.
  21. #4 is my favorite.

    1) How do you not realize a warship when you see it?

    2) If you did realize it, what on earth got it into your head that you could capture a 453 foot ship armed to the teeth with advanced weapons systems and loaded with over 200 highly trained military personnel... with a handful of guys in a dinghy using AK-47s and a couple of RPGs?
  22. I move as little as possible.

I'll move to avoid patches. I'll move to line up cones. (I dislike Cones as a whole, particularly melee ones because they're short range, in addition to being generally very narrow. The narrower a cone is, the more I hate it.) I'll move to position PBAoEs for maximum effectiveness.

I see no point in jumping around in combat if not absolutely required, that just means I'm wasting time that could have been spent activating another power.
  23. I can't think of anything small that would make me quit in and of itself. I have quit games because of numerous small things that added up over time.

The small things that piss me off most in CoH generally have to do with Costume items; specifically when one gender gets an entire new costume set and the other gender gets.... a mace. Screw you Carnie Pack.

Some day that may become enough of an annoyance for me to throw in the towel, but not today.

See, I feel the opposite way. CoH2 would be a new game, with a new engine and possibly even an entirely new playstyle. What on earth would be the point in just copying over a pre-leveled, pre-min/maxed character?

I wouldn't even bother buying the game.

Frankly a CoH2 would have to be different enough from CoH1 to be basically a new game to me, otherwise why even make it? Why would I pay for the same game again?
  24. The Shadow Shard.

Multiple expansive and visually impressive zones with almost no content whatsoever in them. (And in desperate need of a revamped travel system.)

All the zone building has been done for years, they just need to PUT something there.

Ideally I don't think they should be "Co-Op" exactly, but rather competitive PvE storyarcs. Heroes are there to save the day, villains are their for their own agenda which is not just tagging along with the heroes because "WAAAAAHHH! *I* wanna be the one who destroys the world!" or some such nonsense.

There can be Co-Op components though, in the same way that Dark Astoria/Cimerora are a co-op zones that also have side specific content. Shadow Shard 2.0 should just be mostly side specific content, with a few co-op options.
  25. My Time/Fire/Power Defender. He's pretty uber... for a Defender.

Softcapped defense vs all types and positions
    Hardcapped Smashing/Lethal resist
ToHit debuff vs things with tohit bonuses
Damage debuff vs things with non-Smashing/Lethal
    Mez protection (Clarion)
    ~50% damage buff (solo)
Heals to recover any damage that makes it through his mitigation
Decent damage (Ya know, for a defender. It'll get better when I finally get Reactive Interface made/slotted).

I'd say his only real shortcoming (which isn't even that bad) is Endurance, what with Chrono Shift's recovery buff only lasts 1/3rd of the time. Someday I'll have to upgrade him to the 45% t4 Cardiac(currently uses 45% t3).
