Because without an ally to target that means you couldn't use your heal on yourself.

Being a self targeted cone lets you activate it when solo.

I used to be accustomed to cones of this type from various other games I played, but it's been a fairly long time since then, so I'll have to readjust to it.

Unfortunately this means the heal is going to conflict with any PBAoE based powers and sets.

EDIT: Now I'm actually wondering if there's a way to have it behave differently if you actually have an ally targeted. We know they can have powers do different things if it's targeting an Ally vs a Foe, and now there's a power that does something different depending on if you target is defeated or not. Could they have the heal behave as a normal cone if you have an ally targeted (Automatically faces your target before activating) and a self targeted cone if you have no target/an enemy target (To heal yourself without needing an ally). I kinda doubt it, or I'd figure that's how they'd have programmed it in the first place (maybe not, though).

So unless it is quick recharging I don't think I'm going to be too enthusiastic about it.
I would agree, should the recharge be prohibitively long, though I'll "speculate" that's not likely to be the case in this instance.

Frankly I dislike the idea of it being a toggle. I can see why they made Dimension Shift a toggle, because it's an effect that you may very well want to end early.

There's absolutely no reason for you to want this power to end early though, and in fact being a toggle makes it WORSE because now enemy mez shuts it off.

I'd frankly prefer it were just a standard place and forget power, with a reasonable recharge.

The toggle aspect makes no sense.

I agree that would fit more, but that would also lead to the oh so infuriating instances of your "nuke" chasing off after some lone runner and getting wasted. I'd prefer to avoid the possibility of that.

  6. Ok, so, the joys of Beast Mastery has show me that more than just about any other set imaginable right now, I'd like to have a full on "bird blast" set.

I've made several BM MMs (Rare for me because I don't actually *like* Masterminds.) and it turns out that my favorite is a petless one, the Birdman of Ziggursky. Now obviously he plays terribly, as petless MMs generally do, but the concept is too much for my to give up.

What I'd really like to see is for the two bird powers to get expanded into an entire set. (Unlikely, but a boy can dream can't he?) So after a bit of brainstorming, this is what I came up with. What do you think?

    Avian Blast

    Starling Swarm
You summon a swarm of starlings to peck at your foe causing Light Lethal damage over time and reducing both their movement speed and defense.
Fast Recharge, Minor Damage(Lethal), -Defense, -Speed

((This is just Summon Swarm with the sound/FX modified to be birds, not bees))

    Call Hawk
You call forth a hawk ally to swoop in and viciously peck at your target causing High Lethal damage. The attack often catches foes off their guard and can knock them down as well as reducing their chance to hit.
Moderate Recharge, Moderate Damage(Lethal), Chance knockback, -ToHit, -Fly

((Direct copy of the Beast Mastery power))

    Harass
Summons a few small birds to harass your target, disrupting their aim and making it difficult to concentrate. Debuffs your target's Damage and chance ToHit.
Moderate Recharge, No Damage, -ToHit, -Damage

((Just a couple lil birds zipping around the target's head/face, messing with their ability to shoot back at me. Bonus points if the target flails their arms at the birds as an idle animation.)

    Call Ravens
You command an unkindness of ravens to quickly assault and harass your foes. Your foes will suffer Moderate Lethal damage over time and have their speed and defense reduced.
Moderate Recharge, Moderate Damage(Lethal), -Defense, -Fly, -Speed

((Again, ripped directly from the Beast Mastery set.)

    Eagle's Cry
Greatly boosts your damage for a short time, then continues to increase your damage by a smaller amount after the initual effect fades. Your teammates will also recieve a portion of this buff.
    Very Long Recharge, +ToHit +Damage

((The Aim variant for the set. Gives you a moderate bonus (say 15%) to ToHit and Damage for a short time(10s) as well as giving your whole team an additional 15% buff to ToHit and Damage for a longer time (30s). These bonuses stack on you for a total +30% ToHit/Damage for the initial 10s))

    Dive Bomb
Signals your best hunting bird to Dive at and attack your target, knocking them off their feet and dealing considerable Smashing and Lethal damage from the blow.
Slow Recharge, High Damage(Smashing/Lethal), Knockup, DoT (Lethal)

((Large raptor swoops in, talons outstretched and knocks them off their feet. Ideally I'd have called this power Swoop, but there's already a Swoop power in battle Axe.))

    Flurry of Feathers
Blinds nearby foes with a cloud of feathers, causing them to lose sight of you for a moment. Affected foes will be placated for a short time, and cannot attack you unless you attack them.
Very Long Recharge, No Damage, Placate

(More or less stolen from Ninjutsu Stalkers)

    Carrion Birds
Baits a clutch of carrion birds to your location with the promise of a good meal. These birds will savagely attack any foes that get too close. Carrion Birds will only stick around or a short time and, while not immobile, will not follow you or venture far from their supper.
Very Long Recharge, Summon Special(30sec Duration)

((Targets a defeated foe and summons a number of vulture type birds that attack anything that comes near their meal. Not a true pet power in that they don't leave the area they're summoned in, so you can't just spawn them at the door and have them follow you through the mission. Acts somewhat more like Carrion Creepers.)

    Murder of Crows
Calls down a muder of crows to continuously assail any enemies in the area with beak and claw. Deals extreme lethal damage over time with a chance to knock your foes down. Enemies in the area will suffer substantial penalties to their ToHit and Defense.
Very Long Recharge, Extreme DoT(Lethal), Chance Knockdown, -ToHit, -Defense

((A "Rain" type mini nuke, a huge cloud of black birds descend on the targeted area, ripping into anything that moves. Very The Birds.)

The set deals almost entirely Lethal Damage, which is a minus, but it also has a few tricks to hopefully make up for that. It can stack a reasonable about of -ToHit on individual targets, and Flurry of Feathers if there to help them out of a jam, should they over agro.

Indeed, I play the bees off as "Starlings" for my petless BM MM, Birdman of Ziggursky.

He's pretty terrible really (as petless MMs are wont to be), but I love the concept.

(I've considered leveling him all the way to 50 using DfBs. He's support (/Time) so always handy for the trial, and being petless is less of a deal when he'd only have 1 or 2 minion pets anyhow.)

    1. Nope. Too cheap to waste salvage for them. Considering how poorly they sell, temp power recipes are the first thing I delete if I run out of space mid mission.

    2. Nope. Don't really care for them, so I generally skip em. Sure I *could* do them once per 5 levels, but meh.

    3. Nope. IF I do them, it's just stop the bank robbery, maybe get the badge, then click exit. Those side missions may as well not exist.

    4. Nope. Largely tedious to get for minimal benefit.

    5. Nope. Avoid PvP and thus PvP zones at all costs.

    6. Mostly I do the "Save em for when I need them" then forget about them when they would have helped.

    7. Yes. But just because I don't really like playing pre-SOs these days, so the temps are just a side effect of getting my characters past the teens as fast as possible without being able to PL myself. This of course means I get fairly minimal actual benefit from DfB's temps, since they go away once I get to the level I'd like to actually start playing the character at.

    8. Nope. Don't play redside.

    9. Nope. Cheap.

    10. Nope. Cheap and not in a SG on many characters (Comes from transplanting your characters to new servers multiple times, first to Virtue for larger population, then to Exalted when they added it).

    11. Same as 6.

Time can put out some damage by putting procs in distortion field, but that's about it.

If you want to deal damage consider plant, fire, illusion (through pets), or gravity (single target) for your primary (dark is also above average).
Mind really does get the shaft on that.

Mass Hypnosis is a terrible Containment tool (particularly on teams) given it's long(ish) recharge and that it's a super easily broken sleep.

    Pretty much yeah.

Claws and Stone Armor were set to be mutually exclusive during the Claws port to Brutes, because using Eviscerate with Granite "looked stupid" or something.

The notion that Granite Eviscerate is too goofy/ugly/whatever, when it's okay for Granite Tankers to be doing pirouettes with Dual Blades and flips with Martial Arts, makes me laugh a little (in a sad, sad way).

Agreed. Those legs get ignored FAR too often.

I mean, the Barbarian fur bit would have been IDEAL for the monstrous legs, heck the Minotaur mobs even have a loin cloth with their monstrous legs, but player characters don't get access to that piece, and the Barbarian version is arbitrarily restricted to tights only.

There was even a Minotaur character in the preview images of the barbarian pack... but it had to use NORMAL LEGS. Come on!

The debuffs, while it has more than other sets, is primarily to mitigate minions like Dark Armor.

    I'll further speculate that:

-Heightened Metabolism could be an auto power that improves regeneration, recovery and debuff resistances

-Environmental Adaptation could be a toggle mez protection toggle that may also improve resistance to some damage types...possibly even psionic damage...

-Ablative Carapace might be a click that greatly boost regen as well as gives the user a high amount of +absorb that takes any damage for the user instead of actual HP damage. This might even be the tier 9 power.

-DNA Siphon could be a click PBAoE that does some minor toxic damage. It may also have the ability to lower foes' regen while granting the user HP and END. There might even be a mechanic that allows dead foes to be used for this buff but for less return.

-Genetic Contamination may just be a click PBAoE that does some toxic damage as well as debuffs foes damage.

-Inexhaustible could possibly be an auto power that buffs max HP and max END.

-Parasitic Aura may be a toggle or click...who knows? But it might reduce foes' damage, recharge and speed while buffing your regen and recovery as well gaining +absorb from the drained foes. This may be the tier 9 power since anything is possible.

-There might be another power called Genetic Corruption which might be a PBAoE click that debuffs foe's damage and puts lesser foes to sleep. It might do no damage so could possibly be stacked with other sleep powers.

-To further speculate, I'd imagine the absorb mechanic might actually be similar to body guard mode for masterminds in that, the damage taken isn't affected by resistance...your absorb shield may take 100% of any attack, not by how much resistance you may have and this is why the set has damage debuffs.

-I'd also speculate that how much absorb one gains is based on a base number + a % of your max HP. Ultimately, ATs like Tanker and Brute will get a lot more out of +absorb but the one to take home the prize will most likely be Stalkers as they simply won't be the target of many attacks so their absorb will last until the +absorb clicks are recharged. Scrappers may feel penalized if they get a taunt in their aura which will draw attention to them and put them under more fire compared to what their absorb can withstand.
    Some fine 'speculating' there.

    Whip Powerset

I believe the hurdle is that doing just the 4 whip based animations in Demon Summoning, took as much time and as many resources as developing a full powerset.

This is why we're unlikely to ever see a full on Whip set.

That's not to say they couldn't use the whip powers they already created in another set. (They could make Hellfire Assault, for instance, and mix the whip powers with normally animated ones. This works since the whip has no draw/redraw.)

See, I view it this way, the squishier I am, the faster I need mobs dead. Radial Knockback inhibits my ability to make things dead, thus making it MORE dangerous for me in the long run.

Solar Flare doing knockDOWN would still mitigate damage for you, without messing with your ability to defeat multiple targets quickly.

While I would agree it makes sense for squishies to have "get away from me" powers, I adamantly oppose the idea that this effect should be baked into a primary attack power.

You could use the "Ramp" stairs for the lower/upper curves of the room. You'd be viewing them from the interior, so the intersecting areas would be less visible.

Prettymuch, yeah. They nerfed Electric's single target powers so they could make Energy the single target king, but IMO they went way too far. Electric already lacked a tier3 blast, and had pretty unremarkable AoE (one of them being a high mag knockBACK at that). Taking such a big hit to it's lower tier powers really did the set in.
