Yes there is a semi-Easter Egg in the address clue "7337 Dodge Ave." from the first mission.
The second mission in the abandoned lab, is located in Crey's Folley. Crey's Folley neighborhood was known as Venice before the invasion. The Dodge was the leader of historical Venice Italy. So when thinking of a street name, I just thought of something that would relate to Venice, Italy.
The NPCs are also Easter eggs. Dr. Simian's assistant is Kym Hunter. The actress who played Zira in the Planet of the Apes movies was Kim Hunter.
Also Rod MacDowall is a variation of Roddy McDowall who played Cornelius in the films. That was just kind of thrown in for fans of the movies.
Very nice show. I am currently running "Coldest of Wars" on my midlevel tank. -
Ok BAB now get working on the 500 other things on the "Wouldn't It Be Great If. . " list from Hero-Con.

Surely only the "main" buildings will have their own unique maps. Others would i presume have a bag full of maps that they can dip into when they chose which one is the lucky random map to be played.

Try a different MMO. I bounce between Lord of the Rings Online and City of Heroes. Both have on average quarterly updates and both run seasonal events.
There is no harm in trying out different games. -
