I've been playing here for nearly 5 years now, and from day one I have been astounded by depth of detail in CoH and CoV. Many's the time I've held up my patient husband who was already half-way out the door and on to the next mission, while I took time to sight-see, looking at PC screen operating systems, images flashing on villain base consoles, notes scribbled on whiteboards and posted on bulletin boards, shells on the beach, veining on fallen leaves (and scuffing through them), and hopping into watch-tower guard-shacks, just to see if you can really get inside them. (You can). This game's world, both blueside and red, is richly beautiful, wonderfully interactive, and just keeps getting better.
And I am constantly impressed by the addition of new content, new costume parts (although I'd still LOVE more costume slots; heck, I'd even pay for them!), fine tuning powers, adding missions, freebie perks, and above all being responsive to the players feedback and requests.
Devs of "City of Heroes / Villains", I salute you! -
I have a Virtue Victorian heroine imbued (or encumbered, depending on one's perspective) with a pervasive affinity for electrical discharges. She hails from this reality, having been spirited from New York City in 1896 by a mysterious Mender, and then deposited in present-day Paragon City, where she is known as The Intrepid Mrs. Layton.
If your have regular gatherings, or individuals would like to contact and RP with here more spontaneously, I can be reached via global: @Rhianwen. -
Lighted pine trees usable in bases. *Contemplates sneaking onto the ski slopes with a large trowel and 'transplanting' one of those...*
-
Pine trees, short and tall, and also lit ones such as you find around the Ski Chalet - those would be terrific, especially as we approach the Winter Event.

It was a wonderfully fun ECHO party (and the Rikti Raid during the third round of trivia was a total bonus. :-D) Thanks to everyone who came, participated in the contests, danced and joked and laughed and RP'ed the evening away.
A special thanks to The Cape Radio and DJ Vangelus, who gave us fantastic coverage of the event, great commentary and rocking music. And Vangelus, Big Kudos for the action music montage during the Rikti Raid!
I'll post lists of contest winners and a link to screenies from the evening, once I've had time to sort it all out.
No matter how much planning goes into a party --and much thanks to our Dauntless Reverie Anointed for all the planning they put into it-- the final success falls to the guests who come and enjoy it. You all made this one grand, and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
In the meantime, look us up for RP and teams, and drop by the Dauntless Reverie website any time, or send a tell to any of us in-game: @Rhianwen, @LyteInVirtue, @WhiteWiccan; @Andy, @TheVagabond, @Arinara (UK timezone), @TheElysienne (UK timezone)
As a side note, we've opened the doors for the Dauntless Reverie SG Autumn Recruiting Cycle, which runs through the end of October. If you're interested, drop by the SG website, register, and log in to submit an application. Here endeth the commercial -- in this thread, at least. ;-)

NOTE: We have had some problems with our Dauntless Reverie website ECHO RSVP link. If you've submitted an RSVP through the website and not received a response, our apologies. The location for the ECHO party is posted above.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to send a tell to any of the Dauntless Reverie SG captains: @Rhianwen, @LyteInVirtue, @WhiteWiccan, @Andy, @TheVagabond, @Arinara (UK timezone), @TheElysienne (UK timezone). -
ECHO is only hours away, and it’s time at last to reveal the location for this year’s Annual ECHO party – the Southern-most leg of Skyway City’s Hide Park, (Location -706, 0, -1,077, 366 yards south of the Hide Park neighborhood marker), by the statue and reflecting pools.
As an extra bonus, those who’ve not already collected it can receive the “Dauntless Badge” while there!
So come join us tonight as we gather by Dauntless' statue in Hide Park, Skyway City, at 6:00 PM EST to show off our finery, greet our guests, and party! See you there! -
ECHO in 4 days! All heroes of Virtue are invited, and RSVP's can be sent in-game by tell to @Rhianwen, or by in-game email to Nyght-shade.
Or, you can go to the Dauntless Reverie ECHO RSVP Form.
The ECHO location will be revealed Saturday morning, so keep an eye on this thread. -
I'm afraid I won't be able to make this Saturday, as our main RP SG, The Dauntless Reverie, will be hosting it's annual Virtue-wide RP party, ECHO, that evening.
But I'll keep an eye on this thread for future Victorian/Steam-punkerie get togethers. -
One week to go till the ECHO event. We're looking forward to hosting the Heroes of Virtue at this annual RP SG occasion, so ponder those "Echo" or "antithesis" costumes and get ready to party! To R.S.V.P., you can send an in-game email to Nyght-shade, an in-game tell to @Rhianwen, or visit the Dauntless Reverie website for our online reservation form.

Both The Dauntless Reverie SG and the Anathema VG are opening their doors in October for membership applications. Both are very friendly, laid-back groups who RP pretty much all the time, both in general RP and teaming. The Dauntless Reverie has been in existence for over 5 years, and Anathema since the beginning of CoV.
The Dauntless Reverie is a (RP) supergroup comprised of heroes whose lives have been touched by magic. They are multitudes: creatures of legend, descendants of the divine, visitors from fantastic worlds, tormented hellspawn, and students of the arcane. But they are all Dauntless: mystic heroes thrust into an urban setting. There are plenty of "classic" fantasy heroes in the Dauntless, like elves, elementals, and wizards. But The Dauntless Reverie does not require a magical origin, simply a magical role-playing context.
The Anathema VG is a community of sorts and home to a number of outcasts, fugitives, extortionists, arsonists and varying and sundry other vile individuals. They come from all paths, be it from the power of Technology, Science, Magic, Mutation, or through some Natural design. These gathered have deemed it worthwhile to commune together. Some do it for protection, others for access to the Warrens, the home of Anathema, and still others do it simply because there is nothing better happening in the Rogue Isles.
For more information, you can check out the website, www.dauntlessreverie.com , which includes not only CoH/V game-related posts, fiction and artwork, but also a lively assortment of day-to-day topics. Feel free to check us out.
And you can also take a look here on the Virtue forums at our October recruiting thread
Also, the Dauntless Reverie will be holding our 6th Annual ECHO, a Virtue-wide, all-heroes invited RP party. If you’d like to attend and check us out then, or talk with us at any time, feel free to drop a tell to me, @Rhianwen, or any of the Captains listed in the October Recruiting thread.

Initial post has been edited to --hopefully-- get the poster to view correctly (Click on the word FLYER in the first sentence to view the gorgeous ECHO poster created by our own highly talented Niranen), and also to correct the date at the bottom of the post. (If anyone else has trouble viewing the poster, just let us know.)
Thanks for the sharp eyes and good catches on corrections.
So, to reiterate, the Dauntless Reverie 6th Annual ECHO RP event will take place on the Virtue server on Saturday, October 17th, beginning at 6pm EST, and with music and coverage by The Cape Radio and DJ Vangelus. All heroes are invited, and we hope to see you all there. -
As the cool of Autumn settles over the land and the Season of Harvest is upon us, we open the doors for Virtue-wide membership applications to the Dauntless Reverie SG (RP) and the Anathema VG (RP).

If you are looking for a "Victorian-era"/Steampunk RP SG on Virtue, some of the players in the Dauntless Reverie SG have been discussing the very same thing for some of their alts.
We have no base yet, but the working SG title is "The Coalition of Stupendous Personages". :-) If anyone is interested in contacting us with their RP Steampunk/Victorian heroes for some RP and teaming, my global is @Rhianwen. -
A FLYER has been found posted on light posts, trees, building walls, and business bulletin boards throughout Paragon City.
An accompanying card, black with silver and gold finely printed text, is found in a holder close to the FLYER. Heroes also may have received the card in the mail. The text of the card is below.
Quote:((OOC Info!!!))Heroes of Paragon City,
What do an oil tanker in Talos Island, the underbelly of Brickstown, a country bridge in Croatoa, a wooded clearing in Perez Park, and a small glade by a stream in Galaxy City all have in common? They have all played host to The Dauntless Reverie's yearly annual celebration of the coming of The Season of Masks. With great pride, I present...
The 6th Annual ECHO!
So please, join us in our 6th Annual ECHO as we celebrate The Season of Masks, and masquerade as your "echo" or "opposite" – a reinterpretation or antithesis of yourself. There will be contests and prizes, good music and coverage of the party (graciously provided by The Cape Radio's own JD Vangelus), dancing of course, good fellowship and fun.
Festivities will commence at 6 o'clock in the evening EST, Saturday the seventeenth day of October. Please RSVP to Nyght-shade by email on your Paragon PDA, or visit our on-line RSVP form.
The location will be released on the day of the event. Watch your inboxes ((and this forum thread)) for more information.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Warmest regards,

I'd also like to add that we have some of the best base-designers in the business. The Warrens is as much a member of the VG as any of the PCs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Word, Vagabond! I am constantly amazed at what our basebuilders have accomplished with the Warrens. And the Warrens *does* have it's own quirky personality. -

Good to see Dauntless are still active. I don't have any characters appropriate for the group, but I wanted to wish you luck with your recruitment drive anyway
(Well, that's a half-truth. I have my elven princess trapped in a magic longbow, but I don't play her enough to justify taking up an SG slot)
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks for the well-wishing.
And an elven princess trapped in a long-bow, eh? So, would your alt be the longbow, or the player using it? -

Which would be "Summer is Icumen In". I remember the poem from HS English, but I also just recently finally saw the original version of "The Wicker Man" with Christopher Lee as Lord Summerisle. (Forget the Nicholas Cage version. Seriously) The 1970's version is a really unusual movie, and the scene at the end with the villagers all joining in for a rousing round of "Summer is Icumen In" is just wonderfully creepy.
As for possible submissions for the SG, we look for characters touched in any way by magic. -
During the month July were once again opening the doors for the our Anathema Villain Group Summer Recruiting cycle.
IC: Anathema is a community of sorts and is home to a number of outcasts, fugitives, extortionists, arsonists and varying and sundry other vile individuals.
OOC: Anathema began as a way to expand the growing needs of the Dauntless Reverie Player base. With the expansion of City of Villains it became apparent that to keep our group playing together and interacting with one another, an additional outpost in the Dauntless Universe had to be created. Thus was born Anathema, an RP Group dedicated to being Villains in Character, and playing them to their fullest evil intent.
While many members of the Dauntless Reverie SG also have alts in the Anathema VG, membership in both groups is by no means required. We have a regular Wednesday evening VG night for teaming and RP fun.
If you have a Villainous alt, are an active RPer, and are seeking an established RP Villain Group, then check out our website: www.dauntlessreverie.com . You can register as a site-user and once thats been approved, you can then log-in, choose the Submit Character option on the home-page, and fill out and submit your character application any time during the month of April.
Applications should contain a brief description of the character, any background info you wish to share, and the IC reason why your character is seeking to join.
Our next seasonal (Autumn) recruiting cycle following this will take place in July 2009.
We'll be in touch with all applicants to set up interviews, and look forward to hearing from you!
If you have any questions, you can send an ingame email or /tell to any of our Captains: @Rhianwen, @Andy, @Arinara (UK time), @TheVagabond, @WhiteWiccan .

Do people still RP on Virtue? Certainly we do. I've been RP'ing for years with the Dauntless Reverie, an active RP SG, and also with Anathema, our RP VG. RP'ing as :"always being in character" is pretty second nature to me, and yes, general IC social interaction is RP, same as you might find at any social gathering place -- the D, Atlas Park plaza, Gemini Park in Galaxy, the University courtyard in Cap au Diable. IC social RP is in fact a great way to get a feel for a new character's "voice", and even random interaction can generate pretty interesting opportunities not only to help draw out a bit of someone else's story, but sometimes to create in counterpoint a possibly new perspective on your own alt..
Plotted RP storylines are still alive and well, but there are logistical issues to them which make it generally easier to run them with an established and stable group of people. Not impossible, however -- I've seen some terrific pick-up plotted RP from time to time, and made good friends through that as well. If you are interested in planning something like that, an easy way to get the ball rolling and get general community participation on a plotted storyline is to post the beginnings of it on the Virtue boards (or any Server you favor), and wait for people to begin responding in text replies. If there's a good response, next step can be to initiate an IC meeting for the characters now involved, at a spot of your choosing, and let things take off from there. -

Hi, and thank you for a wonderful guide to RP on Virtue. First, if anyone can tell me how to type in Italics in the chat window, bless you! -- Second, and far more important to me right now... I'm new to Virtue, and last night encounted a huge and vitriolic discussion in Atlas Park between "RL'ers" ("Real-Lifers", non RP'ers) and RP'ers about whether RP'ing was ruining the game for everyone else. Emotions ran high, and the people involved in the discussion clearly felt it was an extremely divisive issue... which I found baffling, as I'd thought that anyone who designed a costume and made up a superhero name to play CoH or CoV were (a) all role-players of one sort or another, and (b) that there was room enough for everyone here on the Server. I understand that some people are sometimes a little less socially adept than others, but the idea that other gamers here in CoH felt RP'ers were arrogant or weird or 'living in a fantasy world' was new to me. After all, isn't CoH itself a huge fantasy world, which would mean that all of us are... well, you see what I mean, lol? I admittedly felt I had just created a new Hero here in search of good RP, and then walked into the final battle of "Camelot", sigh... Is there really so much animosity between non RP'ers and RP'ers on Virtue, or did I just encounter an isolated incident?
