I use /buycoh all the time as well. It's by far one of my most used slash commands, even if it's not really being used as intended.

In my quest to research a new prospective alt, I came to the conclusion that the incompatibility of Frostbite and Ice Slick bugs me. I don't like the idea of having to rely on Glacier for setting up AoE containment. That's my personal beef with Ice Control. I'd be more partial to the set if Frostbite didn't have KU protection on it. Other than that, it seems like a nice soft-control set.

Electric Melee has a nice teleport power as well (tier 9, Lightning Rod). In fact, it's a lot more flashy than Shield Charge. I have no idea how well /Elec works on a Tanker, but it's an option to consider. It might be nice to have some zoooom-zap to go with your zoooom-pow.

After playing for a couple of days, I have to say that I have mixed feelings about power recolouring. I REALLY like the option to recolour my powers, but at the same time... it's made the game look kind of ugly.
SSKing is awesome though. I love being able to level up while doing lower level TFs. I also enjoy the new difficulty settings, although I wish some of my non-melee alts could take better advantage of it. -
Archetype: Scrapper (probably happens on Brute/Tanker/Stalker too)
Powerset: Willpower
Power: Rise to the Challenge
Themes: Bright Willpower/Dark Willpower
Bug: Normally, when you enter combat with RttC on you'll get this ring of light effect when the power starts affecting an enemy. If you go with anything besides the default colour this won't happen.
Picture of the effect:
I know this is very minor, but it's a neat effect. If it helps at all, this animation also plays when you activate Indomitable Will (and it works with tinting). I have no idea how the whole tinting process works, but perhaps knowing this will save some work. -
Thanks a ton for this.
You and the rest of the new Mids team did a great jorb.

Power Customization is going to be crazy. My eyes are reeling from a quick trip inside the tailor in Steel.
Tinted Dispersion Bubbles can be VERY distracting. So far I've seen bright purple, an ugly tan yellow, and a bright red. I went with a low-visibility dark grey combo on my FF Defender. A lot of the colour choices look great, but some are quite garish. I'd imagine that will calm down some when the newness wears off though.
That's pretty much all I've really seen of i16 so far. I don't have any great solo ATs to mess around with the new difficulty settings. Oh, and I guess there's a lot of gloating in Atlas/Cap. -
I play both my primary and secondary on my Fire/Thermal, but sometimes the team is weak enough that they need chain healing. At the lower levels, this could be the case I guess. However, the fact that they want to take the Medicine pool makes me believe they are playing with a WoW/EQ/etc mindset. I've seen this a lot though, especially with Empaths. If I'm on my FF Defender and the team isn't taking any damage, a lot of Empaths will just... sit there.
The beauty of CoX is that a lot of the time (not ALL the time) you don't need a dedicated healer. There's a ton of powers that help decrease the need for healing at all. The problem is weening people off of the ways of other MMORPGs. It was a newbie team though, so perhaps they'll learn. I know that in lower levels "healers" are probably the best kind of support to have. Perhaps when they get to a higher level and see the strength of buffs/debuffs/crowd control in CoX they'll flesh out their villain a bit more. -
I've had some conflicting info on this. A lot of people say it boosts every aspect of AM, but then here someone mentions that it only boosts the +run speed.
Basically, I'm trying to decide between Ghost Widow and Mako on my Ice/Rad Corruptor. Thematically, Mako kind of fits (fish tossing and all). I wouldn't pass up a "super" AM though if that's the case. There's also a lot to say for boosted holds and heals. On the other hand, I do like the idea of an AoE Immob and a phase power.
I might as well ask this here as well: if I Hibernate with Rad toggles up, will they still debuff, or will they be "on" while doing nothing (like Repulsion Field + PFF)? -
Yeah, I read all about the problems with Vista. The odd thing is, the overlay worked fine the first couple of times that I used it. I've never played CoH in windowed mode either. Oh well, I guess I will keep messing around with it.
-
Okay, this is driving me insane. The first day I used HeroStats the overlay worked fine. Now whenever I use it, it won't display over CoH. I haven't (knowingly) changed a thing since yesterday. Has anyone had this problem and possibly found a solution? It's just so odd that it would suddenly stop working correctly.

Quote:JOOOOOOOOOEEEE!!! /anguish"Don't worry, if he breaks aggro, I'll use Gekigangar Punch!"
"...what?"
That said, I don't think renaming powers is something that I would want/need. I can call a power something different all I want, but the players will still use the default names for clarity (as they should). If I'm just renaming the power for my sake, I personally don't see the point. -
Thanks for the replies! I think I'll try the Dark APP on the way to 50 and see how that goes. I am pretty poor atm, so I have some time to decide on an IO build.
I have a lot of good advice to work with now at least.
-
I'm having some trouble deciding. All I'm looking to do with this character is PvE. Also, I have no idea which way I want to go with an IO build, but I'm hoping I can build it around useful powers instead of having to use a bunch of mules. This is what I've taken (green):
Force Field
Personal Force Field
Deflection Shield
Force Bolt
Insulation Shield
Detention Shield
Dispersion Bubble
Repulsion Field
Repulsion Bomb
Force Bubble
Sonic
Shriek
Scream
Howl
Shockwave
Shout
Amplify
Siren's Song
Screech
Dreadful Wail
Medicine: Aid Other, Aid Self
Fitness: Hurdle, Health, Stamina
Speed: Hasten, Super Speed
Leadership: Maneuvers
I'm not committed to any APP yet. Power Mastery looks kind of nice for Power Boost though. Electric's Power Sink looks decent too, since I'm very active with my secondary. If I take Sonic's Nuke it could be a nice combination, but the thought of toggles dropping doesn't seem like a good idea.
I've tried Repulsion Field and didn't like it, so I'd need some serious selling on that. I'm not so sure about Force Bubble either. I think I've been spoiled by Hurricane, which seems better than Repulsion Field and Force Bubble combined. I'm tempted to take Screech for nothing other than more -Res stacking.
So yeah, I'm really not sure which way I want to go. Any input would be appreciated. -
I'd suggest a /Dark Corrupter. I'm a big fan of Dark Miasma- it does very well solo and on teams. The nice thing about Dark Miasma is you get a lot of nice powers early on, and it just gets better.
It would work well with any primary, although Energy would require some extra work. My personal favourites are Fire, Dark (classic), and Rad. Fire is probably the most fun (although, fun is subjective) in the early levels if you want to get hooked right away. -
I love the experience lock option. Basically, I use exp lock to keep my enhancements up to date so I can enjoy playing the content outside of AE. I usually enable the lock, do an evil ticket farm, then update my enhancements. However, now that I'm a bit more market savvy I am thinking it could be a better idea to turn tickets into salvage to auction off.

All you have to do is highlight the word that you want to make into a link and click
. It's pretty easy.

Other than the Cape, there's also Storm Radio and KJSR.net.

I honestly wait until about mid 20s to level 30. I like to have Stamina at level 20, and going for a travel power and the Fitness pool cuts things a bit too tight for me. The jump pack from bank missions is actually pretty speedy for a temp power.

You might want to try some older drivers. I honestly thought CoX wasn't even compatible with the newer Nvidia ones. I'm currently having to use 185.81 on Windows 7, but you might want to look into 185.85. Also, I've heard good things about the 182.50 drivers but they weren't compatible with my system.
You can go here to find the older drivers. You also may want to look into some driver cleaning software if using older drivers doesn't fix your problem. You can get Driver Sweeper here, which hasn't failed me yet.
Edit: It sounds like more of a connection thing, so you might want to ignore the whole "try older video drivers." Does this happen on every server? I'd check if your lag is okay on Protector or something. -
I now have this song in my head:

Great choice for a dev name imo. -
People will still roll WM/EA Brutes to be strong and pretty, so GR won't be that bad.
-
My first 50 in CoX was a Fire/Thermal Corrupter, and buffing gets VERY tedious. I'd imagine Thermal is the extreme example of this though. I mean, you have to heal people, keep all shields up, keep track of Forge's cooldown and juggle it on multiple people, try and use Thaw pre-emptively or at least reactively, debuff mobs, as well as play your whole Fire Blast primary.
I'd be happy if shield buffs lasted longer, and they didn't root you in place while casting them. I don't think I like the idea of AE shields with an increased Endurance cost though. I'd rather not have to rely on "gather for x."
