Yeah, but you can't really blame Cryptic for a player's lack of creativity.
[/ QUOTE ]
The American court system proves otherwise. Many users have sued manufacturers/providers for reasons arguably out of their control. And have won.

Enemy pets are nice, but some ally-centic pets would be nice as well.

Theres no such personal property in the base. We thought (on paper) that the personal items would do the trick, but it isnt really the same thing, is it?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really, when it can be essentially destroyed by someone else. That makes one hesitant to place personal items in the first place.

This isn't in the least bit silly. Individualized apartments within the main base are one of the cool ideas that get suggested from time to time.
[/ QUOTE ]
One of the reasons I really like this idea is that there's really no way for another player (other than the info window) to see your exploits. They can see your badges and powers, but not your souvenirs, AVs you've defeated, and so on.
A personal trophy room would be awesome.

Since we're small everyone has base edit privs; if you need to go somewhere distant the pads aren't set for, sell back a beacon and buy the one you need. (For this reason I think the current telepad/beacon system is a joke; either don't let us sell the beacons back, or make them require salvage, or just change the telepad menu to let the user chose from all the zones the SG has badged and get rid of the beacons altogether.)
[/ QUOTE ]
Amen. I don't understand why the telepads have to be so convoluted. I can never remember which one goes to which two zones. The advantage of having them is almost negated by me running around the base clicking on different telepads until I find the one with the destination I need.
Allow them to have more than two beacons. Even if it requires additional salvage or prestige.

The base editor isn't really that complicated, once you understand power and control and what sort of things you need.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's really not that complicated to fly a 747 or install linux either, if you already have that knowledge. My point is, for the casual player, =obtaining= that knowledge is a barrier.
On the topic of using bases, yes, I use mine (although I don't edit anything, I'm just a user). I dump all salvage I get so the base dude can craft whatever he needs to. And I use the teleporters because they're convenient.
But if it were to disappear, I wouldn't really miss it.

People don't *hate* bases. They're *indifferent* to them. They are little more than a glorified storage and transportation system.

What bases really need is a way to get everyone involved, not just the architect.
[/ QUOTE ]
And I'd like to quote everything Lady_Sadako said, but I want to keep this short and readable.
Another big part of the problem, especially for casual players, is that the base editor is too fracking complicated. Editing a base =can= be fun, until you load up the editor and start freaking out that you might mess something up. Or that you can't put a room where you want to. Or that you need some item to power another item but you don't know what.
=Everybody= gets how to use the character creator. But for many people, the base editor and all attendant required knowledge is an entry barrier. "I'd like to play around with it, but oh well, guess I'll go run some missions."
--NT -
Like others, I have the travel power that fits the character. I did try to get all of them, but I absolutely hated Superspeed and couldn't respec out of it fast enough.
Three characters have Super Jump, two have Teleport, four have Fly, and one has both Teleport =and= Fly.
Yeah, I likes me some flyin'.

I remember carefully making my first character, after going through ALL the ATs and powersets, and ALL the options in the character creator, only to enter Outbreak and be amazed by all these other new heroes. And I could shoot fire from my hands. I COULD SHOOT FIRE! It was awesome with raisins.

Hey guys, a quick clarification:
The Invention System and the "Legends" System are "one in the same"...
Basically the Legends system, as it was designed, was not implemented, but out of it grew what will be known as the Invention System. The Invention System does what we wanted the Legends System to do, and a whole lot more, and lays the ground work for limitless expandability that the Legend System just didn't have.

From the MMORPG.com interview with Jack:

As befits the company name, Emmert also hinted at things to come for the City of Heroes/Villains franchise. When I asked him what he was most excited about moving forward, he told me that it was Issue 9. Given theyre still in the middle of putting together Issue 8, this was a surprising answer. Unfortunately, well have to wait and see what they have up their sleeves.
[/ QUOTE ]
Would anyone have educated guesses as what is to come in Issue 9, seeing as how Issue 8 is still halfway through its development push?
[/ QUOTE ]
Statesman is excited about Issue 9 because of the new technology that allows them, finally, to actually make Hickman wear pants. ALL of the time.

I don't get it. How do people burn through three earned Respecs and all their free ones?
[/ QUOTE ]
FOTM. Min/max. Arena. PvP.
The only reason I used a freespec was right before I7, none of my heroes had used theirs before, I knew you can only bank one freespec, and for many I had a "wish I'd taken X instead of Y" lingering for a long time. So what the heck.
But some people have respecced every time it's available and still want more. I'm like you, MissInformed, I don't get it.
