  1. Blueside:

Well, many zones are pretty avoidable. I go to Boomtown like... twice per character, so it's not enough time for me to even mildly dislike it. I simply feel apathetic towards its existence.

Dark Astoria, however, became a hate-zone in the first twenty seconds. With teleportation as your travel power, you will often find yourself teleporting right in front of a building and become extremely disoriented. It might be a nice zone without the fog of war, but I can't even see my own hand when I'm opening a mission door!

Lastly, there's Independence Port, if only because it's a long line, which makes some missions a pain to get to.

    Redside:

I don't mind Mercy Island, actually. I do hate the Nerva Archipelago, though. Imagine Talos Island. Now imagine every second mission on Talos Island taking place on the northern-most, tiny island. This is why I loathe Nerva. Agincourt is actually quite interesting, but in the end, it's always just a stepping stone to get to Primerva or Thorn Isle. Nerva is the redside Independence Port.
  2. I have a question about Bane Spider VEATs.

In Westin Phipp's third arc, Bane of the Heart, it's revealed that all Bane Spiders have psychic powers, which have been "turned inward" for some kind of mass-self-hypnosis to keep all Bane Spiders fiercely loyal to Arachnos and Lord Recluse.

It's said pretty clearly that this deals with all Bane Spiders, so assumably having psychic powers, and doing the self-hypnosis thingy seems to be a job requirement for becoming one. Obviously this is not the case, given how part of Alan Desslock's, the VEAT contact's, shtick is working against Arachnos and more or less helping you so you can be his inside man, so to speak. So my question is:

What is the official reason for Bane Spider not being part of the Bane Spider brother-selves?

  4. [ QUOTE ]

I mean, I grew up on comics, and I don't think I ever once said to myself, "Hey, that's a guy that drew and wrote the story for Wonder Woman/Rogue/Supergirl/[whoemver]. How weird!" Yet for some weird reason, some people seem to have a hangup about people doing it here. That's what I find weird.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I do, actually. Like with Wonder Woman, it's perplexing how you can say she's supposed to be empowering, when she supposedly has a bondage fetish (or so I had been told. I might just be misinformed), with bondage also being her secret weakness. I know I'm probably reading too much into that, but it always screams at me "women who like intercourse are weak harlots", and my inner femnist rages at the notion.

Super Girl? Her travel power is flight and she wears a mini-skirt. I already don't like skirts because of my unusual habits of sitting in chairs, but when you just need to look up to see a teenage girl's underwear, the character's creators either made some rather big over-looks, or something's creepy there.

There's also the things this article thingy mentions, and I recall covers that have those lovely and largely impossible shots of women that show crotch, butt and breasts. Out of curiosity I tried to do one of those twisty poses after seeing a movie poster for G.I. Joe, and I tell you, you should try it. They're rather uncomfortable and feel very unnatural to be in.

The thing is, super hero comics have a history of being boy fantasies, and it's very hard for me not to immediately dismiss many of them as juvenile. So when a super hero story features an incredibly sexy woman with large breasts and a revealing outfit, I simply cannot expect the author to write her as anything more than fan-service or plot fodder. I know it's unfair on my part, but it's very difficult for me to just swallow my preconceptions and prejudices.

As a result, whenever I see a scantily-clad female toon, I have my doubts and reservations about the player's intentions. I'm not going to decry anyone who dresses their toon that way, or tell anyone to dress up, but when I know the player on the other hand is a guy and his female toon has her nipples and crotch barely covered, I'll never be able to trust his intentions in making the toon that way.

Malestrom - a lot like Chamber of Gen X (marvel)

Desdemona - seems a bit like Magik (iyanna rasputin) of New Mutants (Marvel) -

I get the blaster thing, what I don't think I can follow is a demon summoning anything using that power for good. Just my two RP cents but if you are talking "demons" in the classic sense then why would they want the souls of those already "dammed" as it were.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They don't have any choice. What they want is only relevant in as far as they can act. Presumably Desdemona makes them do whatever she wants them to do regardless of whether it makes them happy or not. It sounds like she's on their number one hit parade anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Infernal certainly doesn't have problems with having his demons work for the greater good, either.
  6. This thread went creepy really quick.
  7. So I'll just throw in some random speculation in here because I feel like that AND YOU CANNOT STOP ME.

So remember how with, I think Issue 13, missions suddenly got Hero and Villain tags? By now it's pretty obvious they added that for Going Rogue stuffs.

So Paragon City has only heroic and neutral missions, the Rogue Isles have only villainous and neutral missions, the Rikti War Zone has only neutral missions, and if Cimeroa has heroic and villainous missions, I don't remember if they do, they'd be given by Daedalus and Sister Airlia respectively.

In other words, heroes can't do villainous missions, and villains can't do heroic missions. They simply aren't there for them. How would they be able to, anyway? Pick a purse in Paragon City, and the local hero population will send you to the zig whereas doing anything to improve the morale and living conditions in the Rogue Isles will get you the wrath of Arachnos and probably every enterprising villain around.

So my assumption is that in Praetoria, heroes actually CAN do villainous missions, and villains can do heroic missions. There's probably be a meter or something that'll move up and down depending on how the mission is tagged, and if you do enough missions with the opposite tag, you'll eventually lose access to your previous faction while simultaneously gaining access to your new one.

'course, I might be wrong, but it seems plausible given the information at hand.
  8. I think it's easier to solo this than play with a full party.

That Jade Spider is surprisingly full of nasty surprises, and it one-shotted not only the entire Freedom Phalanx, but half our team every single time. Do note that we effortlessy took down Lord Recluse and his lieutenants. That stupid spider is overpowered.

    AE- I'm very sad

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
To the OP, I feel the same way regarding AE. And I'm tired of hearing the "let us play the way we want" argument. It's a community-based game (ie., MMO) - if 80% of said community is in Atlas or Cap, the game is pretty lackluster for anyone going against the grain.

A game based on how many 50's someone can PL in a week is a far cry from what the game used to be. I've been playing off and on since issue 2 and this is the first time I doubt I'll be returning should I take a break.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Except this isnt how the game is at all. MOST of the community is playing other stuff than the AE. They just arent standing around in town zones screaming in broadcast for pugs. the pugs are in the AE. the rest of us are gladly doing whatever we please.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pretty much that. Hell, if finding teams is really that difficult, I am fairly certain every server has its own set of global channels made specifically for finding teams.

I never had much luck with broadcasting "level X AT LFT", even before AE. If teams aren't in the AE, they're in mission maps. Really, was broadcasting ever an efficient way of getting on a team?
  11. [ QUOTE ]
I have a quick suggestion to solve the problem of brand new people getting characters to lvl 50 and not knowing how to play the game - make MA only available to people who already have a level 50 character (like the epic ATs). That way new people coming to the game have to play the game before farming their way to lvl 50.

    What do you all think?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Congratulations, this is a completely unique idea that I haven't heard a thousand times in the unnemrable threads about the very same topic.[/sarcasm]

Which of the four patron arcs would be the quickest and eaiest for a Dark/Dark brute to do solo? I know that two of them involve objects with AV level HP and 75% resistances, but I don't recall which two.

    [/ QUOTE ]

in my experience, GW and Black Scorp are the easiest, GW is a joke if you have any kind of neg energy resist

    [/ QUOTE ]
I believe Black Scorpion is the one where you have to fight the four Mole Machines. I'd avoid that one solo.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is the best mission ever. Did you ever stand on top of a mole machine while it explodes? It catapults you directly into the ocean. The most "wheeeeee!" moment in the game ever.

    Once.

Years ago. I wouldn't care if email stopped working entirely. It's just an annoyance I have to deal with every time I login. Stupid spam emails from trial accounts.

Honestly, how much money would an MMO lose if they just flatout banned China entirely? Here comes a whole flood of "Gasp! You're a racist!" posts from the high and mighty crowd, now that I suggested exactly what everyone knows would actually flatout solve the problem.

    [/ QUOTE ]

An American in the game was rude to me. So my suggestion to fix the problem is to ban all USAmerican accounts.

Seriously, what the hell. Except for actually citing any numbers, you just say "everyone knows". You know, just how everyone knows black people are retarded and therefore only useful for manual labour, or how everyone knows that hard thinking hurts a woman's womb and so its in their best interest to stay in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant.

Hell, if anything else, any phrase that means "now I'm not a racist, but...", means that you're just a bloody racist and you know it.

  17. While doing (or should I say failing?) the last mission of the Lord Recluse, I saw a tunnel at the edge of the heliport that led to the mission, and promptly decided to see what's there. It's for all intends and purposes a linear tunnel, but that tunnel just kept on going deeper and deeper into the earth just because, well, I can. Turns out that it's an underwater tunnel leading to the Fab.

That single tunnel was more fun than the entire SF, and I had lots of fun on that SF.

Later on I also discovered the singular fork the underground tunnel has leads to below the gutters of Spider Town. You could see people passing above you, not noticing you, like you were a kind of sewer rat.

I found Grandville an impressing-looking zone to begin with, but its underground makes me love it even more, and became my favorite hiding/meeting spot, if I ever needed such a spot.

Too simple to be a Nemesis plot...

    [/ QUOTE ]

Lord Nemesis, excuse me, I mean Mender Silos did pretty explicitly say that he's pretty much responsible for the end of the world.
  19. He's a Reichsman-class enemy, no? Betcha he and Hamidon are the only members of that exlusive "class named after me" club.
  20. There's plenty of players who play normal content, and the hardcore farmers will make use of the 'traditional' farms. At most, only the AE babies will be left stranded in now vacant buildings, and slowly start looking at the outside world now that everyone disappeared. Or so I hope.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Remember, this game is more so about getting to 50 than being 50. Enjoy the journey

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. CoX has very lacking PvP content, and virtually no PvP going on in the PvP zones to begin with. Hell, I've been so surprised to see another player on a Shiva-run that I was completely compelled to hunt him down and then promptly lost the five meteor shards I collected.

Anyway, yes, barely any PvP content, so that's no reason to get to 50. But there's also the fact that the end-game only has about as much content as the other level-ranges. The reason being that every level-range has about the same content. You are MEANT to progress through the game at a jogging pace, or even a leasurely walking pace. If you hit 50 ASAP, you will have missed most content. (yeah yeah, there's still Ouroboros, but that exemplars you, anyway, so what's the point of doing everything retroactively?)

So to repeat myself one last time, this is an enjoy-the-ride game. "50" is only a number, not the goal of the game.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Your definition of "successful" is suspicious. And looks a bit circular.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Some items on that list have been around for about as long as CoX and are still going wrong. Hell, WoW is the posterboy for successful MMOs.

    [ QUOTE ]
The price of most MMO monthly subscriptions is $0. I doubt more than ten to twenty, including all of NCSoft's, are $15.

    [/ QUOTE ]

On that same note, most MMOs are generic grindfests from Korea. Quality has a price attached.

    [ QUOTE ]
I don't see your point. First, and most obvious, all expansions to all MMOs are optional. So that can't alter the fact whether an expansion is double dipping or not.

Second, the "optional" defense is one of my pet peeves for how truthy-sounding yet utterly false it is. Basically, the "optional" defense goes like this: the devs can do no wrong because the whole game is optional. We can love each and every thing the devs do, or we can cancel our subscriptions and give you our stuff. How convenient for the devs' forum supporters, eh?

    [/ QUOTE ]

We have two kinds of optional stuff you can buy right now. First are the full expansions, the first of which you get for FREE now, and one that has yet to be released. It's something big-names like WoW and FFXI do, too. These expansions are, as the name suggests, expansive. Of course they'll cost many. Next you'll complain that DLC for most games is not free, either.

The other optional stuff are the Booster packs, which are, frankly, neglectable. Wow, self-destruction and tarot-reading. That sure changes everyone's game. They're accessories, at best. But hey, you know what? Even accessories cost money after you bought the rest of the outfit. Funny how this works out, no?

  25. I sincerely doubt he has any mental problems so much as he simply doesn't care about the validity of his research and just wants to be recognised for SOMETHING, and because "I guess people are nice to you if you're nice to them" isn't very exciting research, he was purposefully being a **** to people to get the desired results.

He's not mentally ill, he's merely being a hack.
