UDP packets being completely discardable is a good feature when the bulk of the packets are time sensitive. Very few live/faster twitch action games use TCP, slower simpler click games do.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I agree that is true in principle. However, back in 2007, COH used TCP. And when it used it, the user base experienced a far lower amount of rubber-banding and mapserving than they began to see when the client connections were shifted to UDP.
So in this case, while the switch to UDP may have marginally improved responsiveness for users with slow connections, it caused other problems for a lot of folks.
Although I don't have the actual stats, I would hazard to guess that most folks who use COH are using a broadband data connection, whether that's DSL, Cable or Fiber. Bandwidth and latency are not major issues for them. They're not benefitting from the switch to UDP. They're only seeing the bad side of it -- the rubber-banding and mapserving -- whatever that's being caused by.
It may be that the reliability layer -- if one was implemented in COH -- needs further optimizing to help eliminate these problems, and with that bit of refinement, UDP would work just fine. In fact, that may be one of many features coming in Issue 15, for all we know.

PS: Thanks for the article links. The TCP-vs-UDP article by Glenn does indeed have a strong emphasis on using only UDP, but if you read it all the way through, you realize he is focused on First-Person-Shooters and not MMOs. The comments at the end of the article were actually very informative -- top MMOs like World of Warcraft, Lineage I/II, Guild Wars, Ragnarok Online, Anarchy Online, Mabinogi and Age of Conan all use only TCP.

TCP protocol determines effective bandwidth of connection as this: effective_bandwidth = recv_tcp_window_size / round_trip_time(RTT)
With standard 17.5K recv_tcp_window_size and RTT of 100 milliseconds, bandwidth will be restricted to 175 kilobytes/sec (T1). So if you have broadband connection then only fraction of that bandwidth can be utilized by TCP, where UDP can utilize whole available bandwidth.
BTW, 100 milliseconds rtt is what you have between East coast and West coast of USA. People connecting from Europe, NZ and Australia going to have much higher RTT, slowing TCP connection even more. -

Most effective way I've seen this particular mission done is to spawn for 8 (either have people fill, or broadcast that you're doing the badge, and you'll usually get people interested) on the 2nd or 4th difficulty. Get a Tanker with Taunt and a Controller with a low-damage AoE immobilize (Grav or Earth seem to be used most often). Everyone gathers up the MI's in a large group, the Controller puts the AoE immob on auto, and the Tanker puts Taunt on auto. Meanwhile the other team members can look around the map to find more MIs to bring into the group, or just kill decoys as they spawn. Fastest I've got the badge was 5 kills to 500 kills in about 40 minutes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sweet yea that what I would like to do. I have been using my fire/kin for the low damage aoe ummob.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just word of caution: one friend of mine mentioned that his fire/kin's "Fire Cages" were doing too much damage and were killing MIs due to 2 procs slotted in and fast recharge... -

I duo this TF in 1:15 minutes consistently. Dont take away my merit maker just because people cant seem to understand running it at lvl 10 in a full group of melee is insane.
Run it in a duo or trio of ranged/support and you too can profit from this badly designed TF!
I seriously cant make close to the merits/hour I make on this TF with anything else, but I understand the design flaws that make this a nightmare for low lvl toons it was actually designed for... but I still loves my easy merits.

Positron is a great task force to duo. Just get a filler to help you start it. 8-man Positrons are terrible. Just...terrible. But those are what keeps the merit reward for it high I guess.
Vahzilok are nasty at Posi's level...well, at any level really. Those zombehs are just big sacks of painful puke. At least they're all brainless meatbags if there aren't any surgeons around to lead them.
CoT are ESPECIALLY nasty. Godawful amounts of Ghosts and bubble/earthquake-dropping Ruin Mages if you're more than 2 people, huzzah!
At least in these days you have temporary travel power packs, portals and the doors aren't in the butt-end of Boomtown or in caves in Perez Park's forested-over areas. I still wouldn't want to do it with a full team though.
Synapse needs cleaned up too. Just make those sub-stations either small maps, or make you only have to clear that map once instead of "ok do same map again. And again."
Can't really complain about the other Phalanxer TFs, really. Shard ones are far worse.
[/ QUOTE ]
Most of Posi TFs I ran were on 8 man teams. All were done under 2 hours. As soon as you dealt with 2nd mission, everything else is much easier. -

Meh. I'd rather be safe than have some patrol mess up the area.
[/ QUOTE ] That's a good point, but I don't see too many Carnie patrols.. at least not on the missions people usually use this method on.
It's good practice either way.

I usually saw level 40+ farm ran by lvl50 troller. At this level difference you can ignore everything on the map.
Additional advise: have emp or kin auto casting CM or ID on person casting AoE immobs. Even at this level difference you have pretty good chance to got mezzed by 10 or so MIs -

Huh, you know? Based on a few posts about buffing them harder if they ask for them not to, next time a Cold Dom buffs me when I ask them not to on purpose (which is usually never, only toon of mine right now that gets almost no benefit is my softcapped /SR Scrapper), I'm going to quit moving and start shouting something to the effect of "Help! The Cold Dom froze me in place! I can't move!"
Even if I get kicked, it'd be worth it.
Though speaking of kicking, if someone was giving people buffs on purpose they didn't ask for and I was the leader, I'd kick them. A team that's getting along and cooperating is worth much more than a malicious buffer, no matter how good they are.

I have both procs slotted, but i don't know which one procs when. I'm only getting the following message in combat tab: "Your attack strength has increased temporarily."

There are some missions in City of Villains that causes powers to become detoggled. I haven't made a list of them, but I have one I'm playing that detoggles when entering the mission. It's part two of the Midnight's Hand story arc given by Ashley McKnight. It doesn't detoggle when leaving the mission and logging out and in has no affect.
In case it's a location problem; the coordinates of the door, 1697.4 -0.0 1918.4 in Cap Au Diable, Protector Server

It happens not only upon entering mission(s), but also randomly entering/exiting base, or simple zonning -

Having an Alt with Siphon Speed and others with Super Speed, I say the following:
Super Speed
Pro - Always available to toggle off and on as needed.
Con - Takes up a power choice
Siphon Speed
Pro - Saves a power choice, and can get you around pretty well
Con - Not always available. Doesn't last very long and if you're not right there with a fresh target, it's Slowsville, Population: You!
Since you are supplementing with CJ and Hurdle, you really shouldn't have issues if you don't mind going slow after sitting a minute. Meh, just hit that Warrior in Talos Island as you're coming out of WW and you're set.
[/ QUOTE ]
Also Super Speed gives you stealth while Siphon Speed does not. Siphon Speed will draw aggro from target.
Edit: forgot to state pro for Siphon Speed: gives you stackable recharge speed buff -

Saw that problem too, don't remeber where tho, maybe on ship raid, LGTF or ITF.
I had similar problem recently with Imperious on last mission of ITF. He conned orange to me, I was able to attack him and he attacked me back. It reverted back to ally after couple minutes.
There was similar problem with Glacia and Infernia on LGTF. In some cases they might con orange as well, so you can kill them. -

I think farm, and lff should be added to the profanity list.

I find your positions on farming here in the forums very interesting and in stark contrast to your actual in game acts.
Today on freedom in Cap a level 10ish-20ish zone what did I see? You on your 50 DB/WP Brute, Jacobi Law spamming in broadcast for players to join 'your' farm.
It was even more interesting poping in mission #70844 listed as a "challenge". The "story" consists of the line "level Up" that's it. The enemy in the mission list as the "Fuuksi" from the custom critters group (farm) on a large outdoor map.
To be fair you not the only one that displays one position here in the forums, yet does the exact same thing they are advocating others be limited in doing somehow.
I'll take it as you were just playing devils advocate for fun and not actually being intentionally deceptive just to stir the pot in a negative manner, I guess.

It's the only way to get rid of them. I urge all legitmate players of the game to report AE farms when they see them. Something must be done and it's up to us as players to help the devs get rid of this blight on our game.
[/ QUOTE ]
No?
Edit: Let me clarify that no .... I will never use the complaint button against a farm because it will get the slot banned. I will, however, use the bug report button under the options tab whenever I see something that is a bit skewed, and let the dev's sort out what needs to be fixed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wait so you're actually going to not report farms because you don't agree with the devs actions? Sorry but you're wrong. The devs are banning publisher slots of farmers for a damn good reason.
And you know what, theres a difference between in game farms and AE farms. Mainly that the in game stuff you're still learning the various parts of the game. AE farms you're experiencing a tiny part of the game which is leaving new players with little to no knowledge of the game. They're creating an entire group of 50's with no idea how to play.Thats not me saying no idea how to play my way, jsut flat out not know how to play. You can't dispute that because you know it's true.
You can ignore this problem all you like. I'm not saying its hard to get teams outside Atlas or anything, i'm saying that people shouldn't have to leave Atlas to avoid the farmer broadcasts. At the very least the AE needs to be instanced to remove it from zone broadcast.
Something has to be done about this.

Yeah, you have to report non-reporters as well...
