  1. This will do against a wide variety of AVs, from experience (Glad IO not required by any means, it's just a nice plus) :

There's several things I'd do differently today, but it works as it is.
  2. The original post seems straightforward, to me. You've played WP on a scrapper already and you feel the survivability it offers for this archetype is adequate. As soon as you have enough survivability for what you want to do, anything over that is meaningless, so go for damage, use the scrapper.
  3. Against +2 enemies at the damage cap LRod doesn't kill lieutenants. If by "doing something wrong" you mean "fight anything over +1" then, yes, my playstyle is wrong.
  4. In a hypothetical situation where said stalker has always X (4? 5? can't remember) teammates within their crit range, yes.

Needless to say, I'd sooner win the lottery than run into such a team ingame ; and seeing as I've never even bought a lottery ticket nor do I intend to ever do it, I mean that as an extremely unlikely scenario. YMMV, as always.
  5. Quote:
Normal people laugh at entitled people, which is probably why no one's taking you seriously at this point.
Personally, I'm not speaking up mostly because :

1/ Most of the people arguing against Another_Fan are already on my ignore list since a long time, for general stupidity ; tough to answer something you can't read.

2/ I've been playing MMORPGs for a decade, and the old quantity > quality ("mindless grinding for hours should make you have an advantage on others") argument by so-called hardcore PVPers got old about... yeah, a decade ago. I don't buy it in real life, I'm not buying it in a game. All I'm seeing is people who can't compete in real life, can't even compete in strategy or first person shooters, so resolve to flee to a game where time spent prevails over skill ; and in this specific case we're talking about people staying on an obscure niche game rather than fight the crowds in more popular MMORPG PVP games such as Darkfall or GW, because they know they wouldn't be able to get even near the top on these games.

3/ Continuing the above point, we're talking about people who're underachievers and resent this. They're going to be passionate about defending what it is they do on the boards, they're going to be willing to spend hours doing it, and by doing so they're going to look dumber than I or anyone else could make them look like. To waste time writing an answer when any passerby can plainly see what's going on is pointless ; unless you're kind of immature and get your kicks out of doing so (that would be me, and I have no shame in admitting that).

Internet rule of thumb : there's ten people reading for one person typing. Everytime you play the tough guy act, you're looking retarded to the silent majority.
  6. I tend to agree with high damage output over high damage spikes for farming, but in light of the heated discussions in every "best AoE" / "best farmer" topic... I demand videos !

@Purple Charge - farming is killing large amount of enemies over and over to get rewards, usually done on a "good" map (in which you can navigate easily, most often outdoors) that you don't complete and reset over and over, and against a "good" faction (weak to your damage, does low damage, goes easily in melee or possibly all three).
  7. Awesome news.

    Quote:
This is a good way to "merge" servers w/o actually merging them. Those who wanted the merger can now move their toons around freely, and perhaps not post on it again.
You miss the point of merging servers if you think that. Merging implies you end up with servers with higher population.

Cue in argument saying it shows the game is dying and everyone leave, blah blah blah - no, I don't buy it. Past history has shown MMOs doing server mergers too late while the game was already bleeding to death, and people wrongly assume the merger was the last straw, when in fact it's often the only thing that stopped the MMO from being shut down months earlier.

For the record, I'm not pro server merge. The kind of merge I'd want to see is the server lists, between EU and US.

Anyway. Moving characters is just that - moving. You still end up with roughly the same population numbers, and EU players are still locked out of the US servers.

Still great news, let's not try to make it look like something it's completely not though.

    Indeed.

The keyword here in the sentence you quoted was "clear".
  9. 1/ Me, using inspirations if necessary.
    2/ I use everything I have available non-stop.

Always works, on every AT and every team, for everything except a master run. If it's not broken...

My rule of thumb for teams is never trust anyone else with something you can do yourself. Act as if you were solo and consider anything your teammates do as a bonus rather than a given, and you always win.

Regarding this: this is a game. There is no "sportsmanship," there is no "honor." There is only living and dying
    Quote:
This is a videogame and the only thing that matters is winning or losing
    The irony.

There's no living or dying, this is just a bunch of pixels we're talking about (and characters never die, they just get sent to the hosp ; compare and constrast with D2 HC mode for example).

This is a videogame, and the only thing that matters is having fun.

That's not saying you can't have fun by winning for any subjective definition of winning (some consider winning to simply having more kills than deaths, some will run away often to try to keep that ratio as high as possible, some will perma-run and not kill more than one person a hour and still feel they're winning because they never lose, it's all a matter of perspective in an open area without clear scoreboards, as opposed to arena matches), but if you think that's the only way, I'd argue you miss not only the point of the game but probably part of the point of life as a whole - always looking for competition in a video game, and a casual one at that, when there's so much more interesting challenges in real life is just wasting time in my opinion.
  11. Nihilii

    CI or HP?

It's not worth it, in my opinion. For ElM/SD scrappers, I like CB - HP - CB - JL with Conserve Power much better than any other option.
  12. My opinion :

1/ Willpower is strong out of the box with SOs, and performs well against every kind of damage. The completely passive mitigation means defense isn't going to take away from your damage. It's relatively vulnerable to debuffs and very high burst damage.

2/ SoW is good for that. Active mitigation from your primary or epics can help ; AoE knockdowns in particular are fantastic tools to take the alpha. Inspirations are yet another option.

3/ You'd want to specify a primary. While there's some common grounds, WP builds can vary greatly based on primary.

4/ It's not a good idea. Aid Self takes away from your damage and active mitigation, and WP having already high regen you'd be getting a comparatively lower return from Aid Self than you would on other alts - and some already argue Aid Self isn't worth the damage loss on these other characters.
  13. With insps/temps, luck and patience I can see a fire/shield doing it.

Biggest problem is taking the towers down, as if LR kills you while you've got one tower to half or less, the repairmen will not only repair that tower but also run to other broken towers and rebuild these. It's possible in theory, but it's also possible the amount of luck required to make this work would make it impossible in practice.

Patrons shouldn't be too much trouble, as long as you can pull them one by one. You're doing 45% of your normal damage against +4s, but can buff yourself to the damage cap which is almost twice as much as usual ; then there's also shivans and -res nukes (although you probably don't want to use shivans against GW).

Frankly, the biggest hurdle is having to get 7 fillers (including one who stays on team) to start the TF. Not only it's annoying, but it also severely limits the amount of experimenting you can do. If we could start TFs solo, a scrapper would probably beat it in a few months.
  14. BU + FE + LR = 400% damage

    BU + maxed AaO + LR + SC = 380% damage *2

Granted, having 10 targets in range requires setup, and having 10 targets in range *after* either LR or SC, before using the other one, is unlikely outside of farms, but still :

    BU + one target in AaO + LR + SC = 320% damage *2

All those things recharge in 90s as opposed to 180s for FE, making the LR + SC combo available twice as often too. With much better survivability.

Not trying to discourage you, just saying.
  15. Slot efficiency, for both individual powers and the whole build itself is what concerns me, not power selection.

To illustrate, here's an arch/MM build I made in three minutes on Mids, with a focus on softcapping ranged first and then as much AoE def as possible. I think the power choices are reasonable, but the slotting makes the build mostly laughable despite being at the softcap :

"Highlights" include : DP without any slotted accuracy, Aim slotted more heavily than BU, one slotted Hasten, no global recharge to speak of...

That's the kind of stuff I'm worried an automated program would churn out. Now I don't know much about programming, so maybe I'm completely wrong about it and you can actually make it "smarter" than that.
  16. I'm not seeing the use. I mean, getting to the softcap is mostly pointless if it involves leaving individual powers poorly slotted ; and if you want to do that anyway, you can just filter by IO set bonuses in Mids and randomly slot everything that boosts defense until you hit the softcap.

Granted, I might be biaised because I'm afraid six months for now we'd see tons of terrible builds on the forums.

    FM/Shield
Psst... FM isn't the problem here.
  18. Torrent is much better mitigation than Maneuvers against anything that isn't KB resistant (which is pretty much all mobs except EBs, AVs, GMs and a few ones here and there). A fast recharging AoE KD is magnitudes stronger than 3% defense, even if that 3% defense would push you from 42 to 45 with 95% DDR - and that is definitely not the case here anyway.

The downside is, of course, the constraints that come with it. It requires positioning, it's active mitigation as opposed to passive mitigation, and in the end that's time lost not doing as much damage as possible.

    DM/?

I've hit level 50 with my elm/sd days ago and I'm still not softcapped to melee. Soloing any kind of content just fine on +3/x8 because insps just drop so fast.

Ok, by that point I might start sounding like a broken record as pretty much one out of every two posts I make here is basically "inspirations are great", but, well, it's because inspirations are that great, and I think it's a shame the conventional advice for shield seems to be "ignore unless you've got 1 bill to spend" as it's a fantastic powerset on SOs in my opinion.
  21. Flurry is never going to be good at PvE. It's the worse attack you could possibly pick.

I'd go DM for Shadow Maul as it's pretty much the same animation and actually does damage.
  22. Nihilii

    DM/?

DM goes well with everything, but I think overall it goes with Shield the best ; DM gives Shield the selfheal it lacks (and tohit debuffs to stack with defense while leveling), and Shield gives DM the AoE power it lacks.
  23. I used it once on my female character, spent a few minutes looking at the sexy walk, then never turned it on again. RPing's not my thing, but even if it was my character secret identity isn't being a streetwalker.
  24. Nihilii

    Powersets

Replying to nobody in particular. In my opinion, there is a great disparity between powersets, the thing is there is an even greater disparity between player builds, player skill, and last but not least, self-imposed rules ; use insps as they drop and I guarantee you you'll be a god on any character as soon as level 22-25ish.

Ultimately, the most important thing is, as _Force_ says, any combination played a certain way can be devastating. Having large differences between powersets isn't much of a problem because the amount of punishment and damage any combo can potentially dish out is so absurdly high you'll hardly notice the differences unless you look for it specifically. I'd argue apart from a few oddities here and there balance is pretty damn good in this game considering the build flexibility we have.

Oh, and I'd love to see Werner making a MA/FA. Just because you know a dozen of MA/FA would come out of the woodworks.
