Quote:It's not like building to solo AVs or x8 spawns will make you build in a way that is suboptimal in the rest of the game - and indeed that is why I never actually said I was strictly talking about that.
This being the scrapper forums does not mean we only discuss soloing AVs and fighting x8 spawns solo. If that is what you want to do, then you can build for it, of course. But that is so far out of the norm, that I still say its patently ridiculous to slot more than 1 KB protection IO in any character, especially when taking into context that I was responding to a post that was implying that tankers and brutes needed to slot 4 of the things in order to team tank successfully.
On the other hand, you're going to have a hard time to convince me there's not two slots in your build that would have a better impact covering the KB hole against high KB enemies than doing whatever it is they do.
You can spin it how you want and hide behind relative terms, but at the end of the day 3 KB IOs make a significant difference compared to 1-2 in terms of how many mobs KB you. Unless you constantly got buffers and/or tankers to babysit you, you are going to get KBed. While you'll waste time positioning yourself so you don't get KBed too far (what kind of tactic is that anyway, heh), I'll have killed the spawn and moved on to the next one ; or maybe the difference won't be dramatic, but I'll have saved 3 seconds in a 15 second fight, which will eventually add up to me doing (i.e.) 20% more damage than you.
To advocate suboptimal building for the sake of looking cool with so-called thinking outside the box is one thing, and if you stopped at that I'd chuckle but say nothing and move on ; however, once you start insinuating people who do it right do it wrong, I'm sorry but that is just ludicrous ; although I'll admit I might give you too much credit as you seem to defeat your own argument rather well yourself, as the amount of effort you suggest should be spent just to save two slots and still conclude with "it is an issue sometimes" says it all. -
Spinning it the other way around, I don't see any reason to waste time gathering specific salvage and going to base when I can just devote 2 additional slots to KB protection.
Besides, are we on the scrapper forum or the RP forum ? Last I've checked we do things like taking on x8 spawns of carnies, nemesis, and soloing AVs. Against that kind of stuff, falling flat on your back can simply kill you ; and even if it doesn't, you're doing 0 DPS while you're helplessly thrown around.
Downtime of any kind isn't my idea of fun. -
Alright. Where do I have to actually go (or what do I have to do) to leave, once I finished my missions ?
-
170 DPS on a MA/SD is something reachable during leveling, if you max out AaO fodder (ten targets). On an IOed out build under the same circumstances, you can expect 200+ with ease.
I suppose I'd go with SK -> EC -> SK -> Cobra Strike -> CAK now, but haven't looked at the numbers too closely. -
I've noticed inspirations sometimes dissapear completely and immediately when I pop a bunch of them.
-
KM/FA looks like it has potential to do absolutely sick DPS, unless I'm looking at the numbers poorly.
... I'm not looking too closely, because I enjoy the toon anyway. Animations looked meh to me in video, but actually playing it (along with the SFX) it's awesome. -
Started in Praetoria less than thirty minutes ago and been having a blast all long.
This feels like a new game with the same engine rather than an expansion. Great job devs ! -
If it was me, I'd say "not worth it" ; for someone else, I'll go with "depends of your playstyle".
Shadow Meld has a 3 second animation. In a long fight, against say an AV, or soloing a group of +4 with bosses, it's going to cut significantly into your DPS. If you just stick to situations where you have a 3 second "break" (i.e. travel times from defeated spawn to new victims) every ~30 seconds or so, then it might be a good choice.
Even at softcapped defense some hits still get in occasionally, and you might find yourself missing the extra S/L resistance sometimes. Shadow Meld is a good power, but so are Tough and Weave. So it really depends. -
Quote:Awesome, thanks !
It's enhanceable and affected by damage buffs.
Edit: That means that, if you have a 100 damage attack enhanced up to 195 damage, Fiery Embrace will add 87.75 damage instead of 45. It's 45% of the enhanced damage.
And, yes, it does last 20 seconds.
KM/Fire it is then. -
FM/SD, with 20 luck insps.
Total cost : 1000 inf per run (which means you break even once the first minion is dead).
By the way, "possibly doing solo runs" ? Don't do farm teams, it's terribly inefficient. Solo is the name of the game, as far as farming efficiency is concerned.
Ultimately, follow Fury Flechette's advice and head to the market forums if the goal is to make money. Past the first few weeks building capital, it takes hours of farming each day to break even with playing the market. -
Well, you're wrong about Shield, so I'm crossing my fingers about you being wrong about FE too.
If it's like a proc, +45% unenhanceable damage would be pretty meh. I'm not so often at the damage cap to make it worth it. I hoped it'd be +45% base fire damage, enhanceable by +damage ; admittedly that might be borderline OPed.
Edit : I guess it wouldn't be so meh if it lasts 20 or 30s. Does it ? -
What's the crit* chance on Concentrated Strike ? 10%, 15% ?
* By "crit" I mean "chance to instantly recharge Power Siphon". -
Looking at builds in Mids and Excel, will probably make a Fiery Aura character as my first I18 alt, although I'm still confused at what Fiery Embrace actually does.
Is Shield better ? Yes. Would that answer also be "yes" comparing Shield against any other secondary ? You bet it would. So I don't really care about that. -
Quote:I'm not seeing it, without insps/temps. I mean, you might be able to build something doing 120 DPS, but that would mean it'd take you about twenty minutes to defeat one of the weakest AVs without any defensive power. Many AVs have S/L resistance, so your ability to take more than a select few will be severely hindered on any build that can't either reach 150 DPS, do mostly exotic damage or copious amounts of -regen.
How do people feel about Ice/Ax/Energy as an AV killer? -
As Lohenien mentioned, you're not only losing AoE defense but also losing DDR. I've started to list factions that get significantly harder with no AoE def and lack of capped DDR, but then realised it'd probably be faster to name the few factions against which AoE def and/or capped DDR doesn't improve your survivability...

I have on occasions used Unstop as a recovery power, in situations where I knew the extra recovery during three minutes would outweight the crash. I.e., when I knew the mission would be over within 3- minutes, or that I have a kinetic on team that is currently dead/AFK/out of mission but will be back by then and use transference on me, or simply being completely out of endurance and insps and planning to combine the insps I'll inevitably get during three minutes of fighting into blues to manage the crash.
Definitely situational uses, but I think I actually use Unstop more often for recovery than extra resistance during leveling. -
Quote:You need about +235% rech in MG. As for slotting, for me it heavily varies based on the secondary ; the only constant is 5 hecatombs (all but dam/rech) in Smite.
What's your Smite/MG slotting, and global rech, if you don't mind me asking? -
Given what you're looking for, Fire/WP sounds about right - good ST, good AoE, can hold its own in a farm with minimal investment and has an aggro aura (= no scatter). I say go for it.
-
Spines is my top pick for AoEs if we exclude Shield builds.
-
Quote:Yes.
I've got S/L at 24.4%, F/C at 28.4% and E/N at 32.2% I know I can get this higher but is it really all the effective to really start reaching for more +Def and start loosing some of my max HP and Regen bonuses?
WP starts off with lots of max HP and regen, so adding more of it doesn't make a big difference (or, "big" being relative, let's say instead it doesn't make a difference as big as on other secondaries).
It's safe to say you can go all the way to the softcap* before building for defense over maxHP/regen starts being a poor choice. MaxHP/Regen on a WP should, in my opinion, be something you get while going for other bonuses or maximising stats in a power, but never a goal.
* That said, the effort required to softcap can severely compromise your recharge or power stats. -
(QR to OP)
+3/x8 paper missions is soloing material for many level 30 builds, using insps and tactics. One good player + seven random guys with random builds is always enough to steamroll these kind of missions. If it's not, maybe that one good player isn't as good as he think he is.
If your team wipes on paper missions, even +4/x8, as soon as you don't have 2 VEATs babysitting you on top of 2 corrs buffing/debuffing, 2 doms mezzing, and 2 brutes taking aggro, well... A team that falls down as soon as a specific buff isn't there, or in other words a team that relies on a crutch and can't do without it is nothing but a gimped team. Using the weakest link as a scapegoat is all well and fine, but with that attitude it's unlikely you'll improve fast if at all and you'll have to rely forever on whatever crutch you're using - the whole "2 doms 2 corrs 2 brutes 2 VEATs" thing rather than just picking whatever is a fine example of that.
I don't condone skipping TT:M and Mind Link. However, you should stop a second and ask yourself this : what is more likely, you improving your playstyle and builds to the point where you can pick up the slack if other players aren't up to your standards, or all those "bad" players to become good overnight ?
You can stay like you are and play just fine using your rules and have fun, but, using your words, you had to vent, so at some level the current situation has to annoy you. Why not fix it ?
