  1. Declining numbers and people claiming the game is fine : what else is new?
A report on the numbers report thread

The usual assurance that players should just wait until the next issue, which is bound to bring back dozens of thousands, hasn't made an appearance today. Another notable argument missing is the family favorite exams/finals/school/holidays excuse.

Pointing fingers at the economy is still going as strong as ever. Other infallible evidence for the wellbeingness of the game includes anecdotes on the behavior of a few dozen individuals.

Analysts expect for people on both sides of the argument to get angry, and for Arcanaville to make long-winded posts. Personal attacks might be made, as well as comparisons to other games. Moderation is likely to occur.

  2. Use inspirations as they drop.

That is, admittedly, my advice for everything, but I haven't seen anything for which it didn't work yet.
  3. I'm big on 40% S/L/E/N for WP, or as close as possible to it, because Barrier is the only sensible Destiny choice for such a character, in my opinion.

(I have now decided to just repeat exactly what I said instead of trying to rephrase it, when people blatantly ignore it.)
  4. I'm @Dacc ingame.

Being european, I'm not often on at US hours. For the time being, I'm not interesting in selling under 3 billions.

    For @Hannah 15

In a farming setting, going for the energy pool makes even less sense because Consume will consistently hit the target cap, or close to it, for a full end bar as well as a significant recovery buff, and the lack of AOE will hurt even more.

Making bosses with FS/FSC/Cremate/GFS doesn't make sense for a fire ambush farm. There are several pure fire powers, enough to reach 100% XP without having to resort to mixed types. Truth be told, it doesn't matter all that much because it's ridiculously easy to survive something you have 90% resistance to as soon as you stack a fast recharging heal and some defense on top of it, but the point being that if it is a specific purpose build, building for another situation that you shouldn't encounter in the first place doesn't make much sense.
  6. So far, the confirmed info for I21 is mostly that corruptors will get a buff.

Let me find the quote... Ah, there it is.

    Quote:
Posi told me he reads my guides before he goes to bed every night and is trying to push through a change for Corrs to have 3k base hit points
There's also hints of an underwater city zone, with fish cops as a possible playable AT or NPC.
  7. I'm big on 40% S/L/E/N for WP, or as close as possible to it, because Barrier is the only sensible Destiny choice for such a character, in my opinion.

Clarion - don't need mez protection, IW is already complete.
Ageless - don't need endurance ; recharge is cool but not a big difference.
Rebirth - an additional ~+400% regen isn't as nice as it is for other characters when you're already at 700% with 1 target in range.
Barrier - softcapping S/L/E/N as needed, adding a buffer against defense debuffs, adding 5% res to all and more during the first parts.

Answering the actual question at hand, I believe the S/L softcap to be more survivable than the F/C/E/N softcap. Most attacks that debuff defense are lethal, and lacking defense debuff resistance you will get debuffed pretty fast at low S/L def. S/L damage represents something like half of the damage you'll ever see. Most attacks also have a S/L component - energy blasts, ice blasts, fire/ice swords, elec/energy punches, the list goes on.
  8. The "Repair (Consistency Check)" thing from the launcher is what I already used, and I still got one crash after that. No crashes today though. I ran the Repair thing one more time (can't hurt, right?) and added -verify to the command line parameter, will report in a few days if I don't crash anymore.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

Edit: Hmm, well, -verify gives me a pop up and verifies 80 files everytime I start the game. On my machine, it's a good 2 to 3 minutes. Considering starting the game and logging back in takes me less than that and that I don't crash every session, I think I'll go back to play without it.
  9. Thanks for posting this. Been toying around with the idea some time ago, with a claws/regen/body that'd be full ranged, but the redraw made me want not to do this.

Now we have KM and Fire epic... Hmm.

Focused Burst -> Fire Blast -> Fireball -> Focused Burst -> Fire Blast -> Ring of Fire could be a gapless attack chain. Might just do that on a second build.

    Quote:
So let's say Sleet is over powered for with the proc
Sleet does a -30% res debuff, so the proc does roughly 30% more damage than with RoF/IS.

Rains tick 5 times per second, so the proc does 1000% more damage than with auras (1 tick per 2 seconds), 500-24000% more damage than with a ST attack (animations ranging from 1s to 3s, targets hit by the rain ranging from 1 to 16), or 500-1500% more damage than with AoEs (assuming you've got a nonstop AoE chain).

If you want to argue a difference of 30% makes one power OP while in the same breath saying a difference of 24000% is completely fine... Knock yourself out.

The content wasn't even hard on first day. It was mostly hype from beta testers, who claimed that the mobs hit harder than in normal content, that you needed to follow certain strategies or have specific ATs. Thankfully it all proved to be ********.

I still feel so very silly for mindlessly buying the words of people who probably have trouble taking on an archvillain or starting a TF without a tanker and a debuffer.
  12. ./piggs/player.pigg: Corrupt pig file detected
    Read failed for file: player_library/V_MALE_SPADR.geo
    -1

Your data might be corrupt, please run the patcher and try again

    -

The name isn't always the same, sometimes it's a .pigg file. It occurs whenever I'm traveling, outdoors or missions, but more often outdoors, I suppose because I run into problematic somethings.

It happens on two different computers (the only two I'm currently using for CoH), one using the old launcher, one using the new. I've tried to verify/fix/repair files on the computer using the new launcher already, it still crashes.

Anyone having the same problem, or knowing what is it exactly?

(I'm not really interested in trying to fix this if this is an obscure problem that I am alone to experience.)

    For @Hannah 15

I agree that any other epic would need more slotting, but there are several slots wasted on the other powers (pretty much every defense and resistance power is overslotted for minimal benefits, for example).

Just mentioning that or trying to help rebuild is already too much effort considering you can find about three thousands and five different and better builds for this specific powerset combo in just the first page of these boards.
  15. 7 years of content... Yet most of the playerbase hovers around the new shinies, be it AE, level 50 TFs, or now just the two same trials over and over. Heh.

I haven't tried many new MMOs, mostly because all of them have some kind of deal breaker for me before I even get to try it, but rather than praise the way CoH is managed I'm much more inclined to believe the game itself is the reason for its success. The gameplay is fun, accessible and yet at the same time has some depth into it if you want to dig further. There's none of the annoying trends of other MMOs (holy trinity, forced vocal chat, overreliance on third party software, competitiveness even in PvE with rolls for rewards, automation and bots, etc.), or to put it another way, other MMOs often end up feeling like work whereas this game stays a game.
  16. This might be a pointless reply, but I'm reading your post differently now, as "if I use sets, I 6-slot the power", so with that in mind I want to add that when I slot sets, it's usually 3 slots (Aegis or Titanium Coating), or 4 (Reactive Armor, Impervium Armor), and I go for the second choice only if I have a specific build goal in mind. So, with the standard 3 Aegis or TC, going for 3 commons instead is a net loss as I'd gain maybe 1% resistance (if at all, on a toggle like Temp Invul) and lose HP/def/endurance.

Whenever I use commons to save a slot or two, that means I'm going with 2 level 50 commons (close enough to ED capped) or just 1 on powers I don't particulary care about.

    For @Hannah 15

Cardiac + Consume + the standard procs (numina, miracle and one perf shifter) are already enough to attack at full speed, going with the Energy pool is just a waste - as it locks you out of the other, much superior damage options.
  18. I always use sets unless I want to save a slot or two. My favorite choices for defense building would be Aegis (F/C/AOE def) or Reactive Armor (S/L/E/N def). Failing that, I go with Titanium Coating for the extra HP.

This is true for all of my characters, not just scrappers. Save for the aforementioned slot saving strategy, I don't see the point in using common IOs ; enhancements hit the ED cap fairly quickly, so might as well grab some set bonuses and extra endurance reduction.
  19. There isn't any news about CoH in my version of the launcher (the newest one). The first screen I'm greeted with talks about Aion, from May 5th. The second screen I get (if I click on City of Heroes and then wait 10 seconds for the blank screen on the right to actually fill, which I'm unlikely to do if I'm going to play), I get a cropped up image on the top half, a bunch of links opening up in my browser, not in the launcher - Account, Support, Community, Patch Notes, Store. None of this gives any news, the latest patch notes is from the 3rd May and makes no mention of anything like a sale.

Below that, on the bottom left, there's a rotating gif with the animal pack, the refer a friend thing and the weekly TF ; more links opening up in my browser.
The only item that seems like it might give me news, "latest news", on the bottom right, doesn't do anything when I click on it.

That's it. If there's news about sales or promotions somewhere in that bloated mess, it's really, really well hidden.

As an aside, I don't get announcement emails from NCSoft either. Emails from support and so on seem to work fine.

Trying the main website now... Gee, thanks NCSoft, even though I play on the US servers I'm getting the french webpage. Let's sift through the news. Oh, there's actually a mention of a magic pack sale from May 11th. Scrolling down... Ok, the news stop at May 10th and I have no options to look up archives or anything. Great.

Switching to US layout. Wait, this actually looks a lot better... And now I get the option to read archived news. Woo! Ten minutes to find something that I could have seen in two clicks on the boards. I honestly don't get how do people get their news this way.
  20. I can clarify that, I presented the situation poorly. It was actually 2,146,555,555 inf and 2,147,555,555 inf.

    Quote:
Try it on the test server?
It was just random/idle curiosity. I don't feel like updating Test just to do that. Taking the 100 mill inf loss would be less effort, heh.
  21. That's the thing I'm wondering, if it is actually possible to list something for higher than 2,000,000,001 inf or if it's just a display/input box bug.
  22. I can't fix the topic title, but as explained in my post by "tried to sell" I mean "listed". You can't hold more than 2 billions at once so you can't actually buy something listed at any amount higher.
  23. Quote:
Posi told me he reads my guides before he goes to bed every night and is trying to push through a change for Corrs to have 3k base hit points
So when do you think this is coming, I21? Cool. I really need to start leveling mine.
  24. Apparently, the game is willing to let me list stuff for more than 2 billions, up until 2 billions and 146 millions precisely (at 147 millions, the 10th digit won't work). Could be just an error on the input screen and maybe the market wouldn't actually let me list something for more than 2 billions, but as I'm a cheapskate and didn't want to burn 100 millions in a fee I thought I'd ask here first if anyone has ever done it and if it is possible.
