All I said, and all I meant, is that I do not find it fun, and I don't understand why people would do it for hours at a time. I get RWZ Challenges and Pylon soloing, they are over in 10-15 minutes. It's just the doing the same thing repeatedly for HOURS that I don't get.
Word. I don't get those people who fight past the very first group in a mission either, instead of stealthing the objectives, seeing as every fight past that is the same.

For that matter, it's so boring to always use the same powers all the time. Why would I want to use Smite at level 10, much less at level 50? I already had it at level 1.

Am I being sarcastic? That's pretty much the look non-MMO players give me when they watch me playing the game, and I get that. Even the most action packed MMOs (which this game isn't, although it's much better than more popular ones) are based around repetition, there's simply no other way to keep people playing for months/years.

The only difference between normal playing and farming is a matter of scale. Some people are easily fooled by slightly different looks or text, some others see through that and embrace the genre for what it is.
  2. Just as another data point, I'm also getting these "CoH ran out of memory" crashes on WinXP 32 bits with 4 gigs of memory (yes, I know it doesn't use all that memory fully) since last Monday (or was it Tuesday?) patch. I don't run any other programs while playing except Firefox, the NCSoft launcher is always set to turn off after the game is launched.

    So, you're not alone.

On the other hand, I used to have these kind of crashes before and I don't anymore.
  3. You really want discussions rather than guides anyway as people can have widely different opinions. The point of guides used to be, IMHO, to check on powers without having to level up and try them out, but now that we can see most of that information right from character creation, it doesn't matter as much.
  4. Ironically, behaviors like in the OP is likely why I stopped playing legitimate arcs in AE in the first place and just used it for farms. Too much 4 and 5 stars arcs being actually pretty meh. "I rated your arc 5 stars, please play and rate mine" ruined the system more than anything else IMHO.

I play another game which also uses a 5 star system for player generated content, and for the most part people vote somewhat accurately there, so you know you're playing an OKish map if you pick a 3 stars one and a really, really good one if you pick a 4.5 stars one. Ratings are meaningless if everyone gets a 5, and players are the one who pay the price by having to wade through a bazillion bad arcs to get an actual good one.
  5. I would think that 1-starring farms is not only ethical but should be encouraged. It weeds out the farms for real arcs in the search engine.

I say this as someone who only uses the AE to farm. What am I going to do if I want to farm? I'll either make my own, or search a specific keyword related to farms/play a specific arc I already know or heard of from someone else. Cluttering the search engine with 5 star farms is pointless.
  6. That'd be disappointing if it is the cap, considering the top SGs aren't too far from that. Hmm...

    SM/FA Concepts?

Huge model, smallest size - monkey on fire.

    Dps

It makes sense that Fire does the most damage, seeing as it comes with the lowest survivability out of the box.

Admittedly, IOs, insps and incarnate powers sort of ruin that balance ; but it's still much better than when the set with the best survivability (IMHO), Shield, also had the best offense.

Specifically speaking about scrappers, I still find /fire to do less DPS than /sd as lacking aggro makes things run (especially with Burn). Half a second spent jumping to your running target out of every 5 seconds is already a 10% DPS hit.

This is interesting, if you can manage to ticket cap (I’m sick of all these inf/min numbers, that’s where the REAL farming efficacy actually matters)
Inf/min is a metric to gauge kill speed and has nothing to do with influence.

Seriously, how do you of all people still not get this? You've followed the topics speaking about this. You've asked that same question. The answer was already given to you.

Additionally (and again rehashing what was said again - is this topic from 2008?), plenty of people farm to powerlevel, not to make money. The market is generally a more efficient way to make money, unless one plays and is willing to farm for hours daily.
  10. Damn, I wish I didn't miss this thread.
  11. Is the argument here that claws is superior to SS for farming purposes because you got to 50 in 16 hours of solo farming?

Sorry to ruin the party, but I've solofarmed from 1 to 50 in 8 hours on a Fire SS tanker...

... Which means a SS/Fire brute should be faster...
... And a Claws/Fire brute should be faster STILL, because the leveling process is very different than level 50 farming.

Claws gets Spin at 8, FS has to wait for level 28 for its first decent AoE. Claws does great AoE damage at low recharge, FS isn't as animation limited and thanks to that gets more out of the epics and more out of +recharge beyond a certain point.

Claws/Fire has been acknowledged for a long time as a second best farming character, and arguably as the best on leveling/low budget builds, and most if not all of what I say here was already said in the "very best farmer" topic.

This topic has nothing to do with math. Hey, my Dual Blades / Invul brute solofarmed her way to 50 in 12 hours. I guess SOLID MATH tells us DB/inv > Claws/Fire for farming.

No sir, anecdotal evidence from a single player that isn't even compared to any other number does not prove anything, except maybe something about the person who would say that it does or call this a "test".

    Zoning times

I've noticed disabling vsync significantly improves loading times on every computer I've ever used, to the point that i.e. my laptop that struggles to keep 30 FPS on lowest graphics can load faster than my desktop running most stuff on high at 60 FPS.

I've made a Scrapper that could solo AVs inspirationless before the Incarnate system (with incarnate powers, he can solo a pylon, and AVs are a joke).
I find these two statements to be rather strange, seeing as pylons are several times easier than most AVs.

    Musings on SR

    Quote:
Hover (or a jetpack) + Confront will allow the /SR to tank Tower Buffed Recluse.
That's certainly true, yet I stand by my point.

I consider -range and fly to be survivability just as much as HP, regen, res, def...

Ok, it's specific in that for that particular encounter you don't need anything else once you have that ; but it's still at least one more power pick you'd have to spend over a SR with just enough survivability to solo the sabotage phase - as confront is essentially an useless choice in that situation.

I would also argue that there still can be a benefit to tanking LR in melee over confront spam, because in melee you can also whack a tower (ideally, one that your teammates aren't fighting ) and contribute some damage.
  15. 20% DDR is so small that I wouldn't blame anyone for forgetting it's there.

    Build Depository

I think it's important to add a "comments" area to each build, to explain the purpose of it, as well as maybe the budget. From experience, those two things come up everytime.
  17. I'll pick the choice that leads to a Hero Merit.

    Musings on SR

    Quote:
A well built SR can definitely solo the Lambda Sabotage without Inspirations, what more do you want ?
Tank the final LRSF mission, towerbuffed Lord Recluse, Siege + Nightstar in BAF ; solo Lambda, +4/x8 anything (i.e. vanguard, IDF, arachnos, longbow, not just cherrypicked easy mobs), multiple AVs at once. Decrease the likelyhood to die to be as close to 0 as possible.

This is just a number of goals that require much more survivability than what is enough to solo one path of the sabotage phase. I'm not saying SR can't do that, but rather "here is why someone might want more survivability".
  19. Nihilii

    Musings on SR

AaO boosts DPS probably much more thanks to the aggro it generates rather than the actual damage bonus it provides.

    Regen issues

I believe halfflat's point is that if you use Revive, you are killed while it is still animating. No time to animate MoG or anything else for that matter. Revive should have 15s of true invulnerability (Untouchable) like the real T9 rezzes do - you know, on top of having a nice secondary effect.

Mind Link is there, but not required to hit 59% positionals, just as a buff for teammates or against defense debuffs / tohit buffs. If you really hate it, just pick Kick instead and slot it with 3 knockback enhancement IOs, so you can kick stuff in the face. Unlike some sissy excuse of an action hero from a recently rebooted franchise. *ahem*

59% in all positionals - check.
Managable endurance - +2.4eps (averaging perf shifte rproc) with all toggles on, should be alright for regular play. For long fights without external endurance buffs, would probably toggle both tactics off and possibly the pool Assault.
Decent attack chain - can run FU Slash Lunge Strike Swipe with a 0.05s gap.
Playable - wut. Er, I mean, yes?

The one weakness is the lack of a selfheal, but personally on a widow I go for Destiny Rebirth and call it a day.

That doesn't seem like such a bad build. I might go for something like that, just for kicks. Thanks for the idea.
  22. Last time the market UI was "improved", it ended up being a significant nerf in usability, and the new team/league windows are bad ; even the classic option isn't as good as the actual classic team window.

I agree that the crafting/market interface is far from perfect and could use some improvements, but at the same time I hope they don't look at it anymore.
  23. DB relies heavily on Blinding Feint which doesn't give as much of a boost on brutes (due to much lower base damage because of Fury as well as lower damage mods). Using BF->AV, a DB brute needed about 88 Fury to break even with a DB scrapper ; now that Fury usually tops around 73 during an AV fight, the brute does lower damage.
  24. I don't think any regeneration bonus you might get would matter compared to Rebirth and/or Regen Aura/AB/Heals from emps - the set bonuses are much smaller. I'd think max HP would help more.
  25. We can't know for sure, but just looking at the amount of people talking about it or using steampunk costume pieces ingame, as well as the numbers made public about similar stuff from other companies (i.e. TF2 and hats)... I assume booster packs are doing well.
