Thanks for the "correction" Captain Semantics, I guess the "and a half" mention wasn't enough to show sarcasm. I'll make sure to add smileys next time.
  2. That is not what I meant to say, but as a matter of fact I actually think these three powersets on SOs and on scrappers are better than Regen, yes.
  3. Do you know you can turn off XP in options? Admittedly, it will stop right away rather than 1 xp before the next level.
  4. I play Invuln, Elec and SR on SOs but people who have never met me nor know anything about my playing habits claim I don't.

Edit: not targeting you personally StratoNexus. I'm just thinking it seems to be a common trend for people to assume speaking about IOed out builds on the boards means that player never plays on SOs, and seeing how so very wrong this is for me, it could be the same for some other people.

Well remember that Sam doesn't make a lot of HUMAN characters.
Let's also not forget that when you get to the max height scales city of allows, you can generally start throwing them being fully human out the window.
Sorry, I don't know him. I went by his argument starting with "because as we all know, women are always shorter than men", which looks like to me as bringing realism/RL into it.

Is keyes worth it? For me, a resounding "no". Even if the playerbase as a whole would get it down to BAF speed levels, green number based gameplay is such a copout in a game that originally broke away from that nonsense I'd rather stick to the other choices.
  7. Regardless, the Eden trial gives about 2 merits and a half, so I wouldn't worry about it either way.

Then again, I'd feel like a dufus using merits for the numina and regenerative unique, which there's no way i'd leave off a regen.
I'd feel just as silly spending merits on a regen tissue - I took a look at the market today and they're down to 5 millions a piece.

It does, actually. The "height" slider is actually a scale slider, and when it starts off a small base, it ends up with a smaller maximum, as well. A max height female character is still a good foot shorter than a max height Male character, yet a max height Huge character is the exact same height as the Male. Even more amusing is the fact that the Male scale slider goes fro 0 (middle) to 25 (right end) while the female one goes from 0 to 34, I think, and max height women are still significantly shorter than max height men.
I'm not sure how this relate to BrandX's point... Not being the tallest doesn't mean you're not tall. Additionally, the tallest man is almost one feet taller than the tallest woman in real life.

You may as well complain that men haven't as big boobs as women, I think you could actually make a better case for that as some bodybuilders could make many ladies jealous.
  10. Seemed to work for Jack Bauer.
  11. I'm going to third the AE suggestion. Mobs designed to offer a challenge can be tough even for incarnates, provided you raise the reputation enough.

Really, all of Bright's suggestions are good ones.
  12. Hmm. You raise some interesting points.

I wouldn't like this idea personally ; most of my alts are on Freedom, and I definitely want to play with the F2P crowd, as on the hours I play, the server is far from packed. I can't find a good, objective reason to argue against your proposal, though.

    Yes yes yes!!

Real Dark Regen on a blaster doesn't sound so crazy to me considering the limited HP/maxHP and defenses, and the precedent of Drain Psyche in Mental Manipulation.

It's admittedly a lot faster to get a full heal out of DR and it has the potential for much bigger healing over time, but also requires proper timing, takes a significant chunk of your endurance and doesn't come with end recovery.
  14. One big question is, are we getting the "nerfed" fire blast or the good, corruptor version?

It's not a big difference in performance, 1.452s or 1.848s cast on Fire Blast, but for me that 0.4s pause on Fire Blast looks very ackward on Blaster Fire Blast, to the point that I can't enjoy the powerset on that AT anymore.

Looking at past ports, defenders got the blaster, nerfed version of Ice Blast (and a much bigger difference there, Ice Blast going from 1.17s to 1.848s). :/

Admittedly, it's arguable defenders have it better with rains as these deal the same damage regardless of the AT. It's more of a fun/perception issue.

"In spite of the math due to intangibles"? Sorry, no. Just because bad, simplistic math can't take into account all parameters doesn't mean I'm speaking up against math, nor that math couldn't resolve this problem given enough resources. Everything is about math, the only issue is people using that math and their incorrect interpretation of the data.

So it's not what I'm saying at all, but if we leave that part I could answer this just rephrasing my previous reply.

Theorically, if you do nothing but stand still and twiddle your thumbs during rage crashes, other primaries might do more damage, but ingame, with damage procs, reactive interface and other clicks such as Hasten, Active Defense, Conserve Power, Aid Self, Destiny buffs, eventually veteran powers, you still get to use stuff and do some damage during the crash. Additionally, as outside of an ambush farm mobs aren't all clumped together, you can use rage crashes to move to the next group. In the end, the added damage of Rage more than makes up for the crashes and then some, even on brutes with their lower damage mod and even lower relative damage boost due to Fury ; scrappers would of course have it much better.

Edit: ah, yes, now I remember, you're the guy who argued for Scrapper Spin being better than Brute Spin with math taking into account just the numbers of the power in a vacuum. So you're probably trolling out of emotion rather than asking a legitimate question, and will take my comments about "bad math" as a personal attack. Sigh.

Let's take care of what is sure to follow : no, I'm not claiming I can do comprehensive analysis that take into account absolutely everything or even most things, it'd take a phenomenal amount of resources as well as expertise that is likely way beyond my limited abilities. When dealing with parameters I can't quantify properly, I see only three options:

    - rely on experience and intuition
    - record some hard data ingame
    - stick to the few numbers I can easily use

If you use the third option and ignore everything else, it might work if you're looking to win forum arguments. Using all three options are much better if you're looking to have a better performing character ingame.
  16. Theorically, if you do nothing but stand still and use Spin the scrapper would do more damage, but ingame, against moving targets with a finite amount of HP and using other powers, you get animation limited very quickly. In the end, the added damage of brute spin more than makes up for the increased recharge and then some.
  17. I'm sure there are players who would rather not have an aggro aura - much like there are players who prefer to skip their toggles, arguing they perform better with the extra endurance. People make all kinds of poor decisions based on an incorrect understanding of the game environment, it's important not to confuse beliefs with facts.

Quoting something only to purposefully and blatantly misinterpret it as to attempt to derail the argument isn't worth answering with any more effort than a copypaste of the previously made point.
  18. Burn does about 150 damage unenhanced at level 50 against an evencon enemy. The DoT is reported everywhere (Mids, RedTomax) as ticking 13 times for one tic of damage, but it actually ticks 13 times for two tics of damage.
  19. Numbers above are too low - you start with a base of 100%, not 0%. Add an additional third of the total to have the correct figures.

    Energy Aura

45% defense doesn't cut it for me, and even if it did, the minmaxer on my shoulder wouldn't want to skip 6% def. That's a significant amount of slots that could be used for other things.

Plus, there's really no reason Energy Cloak shouldn't have a no/low FX option, like Cloak of Darkness does. My guess is so few people played/play EA and even fewer care about that specific thing, they didn't get enough complaints about it. The logical step is for me to whine twice as loud!

SD being overused, having to have a shield on your arm, not being able to do Spines, Claws, DB, and Katana with it, changing your animations, a click mez protection that you have to refresh every few seconds to keep capped DDR (yes exaggeration, but again, I'm talking about how I feel about it , having to use a mouse to use SC (I game on a laptop often enough for it to be annoying), and did I mention over popular, all make me dislike SD.

People can show facts, tell me I'm wrong, or any other thing. I realize this is really liberal, getting in touch with feelings, instead of cold, hard facts, but the reason I PLAY a game is for the feelings it instils within me. I just dislike SD (also WP... but that is another thread so please don't assume that all other sets are inferior just because you believe, feel, or even prove it to be. This world is infused with billions of different people, all with different views and opinions. There are right and wrong ones, but even people confronted with their wrong position will still cling to it.
You're really making two different points here.

Your first paragraph I fully agree with, that's why I play SR rather than Shield on my "serious" alts. It's an issue of feel.

Then, after admitting this isn't about the factual performance, you argue other powersets aren't inferior. Does not compute. I get that there's a negative emotional response to the word "inferior", but at some point you've got to step out of the rainbow colored magical land where all kids get an A+ for trying and realise that numerically speaking, some things can be better than other things, and that people stating "X is better than Y" based on that aren't making a personal attack on you or the stuff you like. Otherwise you can just throw balance out of the window completely and widen the gap between the best powersets and the worst powersets.
  22. Burn is the best ST attack you have access to as a tanker.

    Energy Aura

On one hand, finally a defense-based scrapper with an aggro aura that doesn't force you into a narrow concept range or lock out of certain primaries. Cool.

On the other hand, psi hole and Energy Cloak hiding your costume ; plus, specifically for scrappers, Overload being nowhere near as useful with the lower HP cap. Not so good.

To be fair, the other changes make the set look appealing nonetheless, but I'll pass until the GFX issue with Energy Cloak is fixed.
  24. Last time someone opened up a thread complaining about aggro auras on the scrapper forum, the dogpile that resulted was so onesided it wasn't even funny.

I'm not suggesting scrapper forum regulars are representative of the average player, but I think the kind of people who care enough about the game to create a forum account and post in the AT boards tend to have better knowledge of the game than the average player. Having an aggro aura is a boon more often than not and results in a hefty increase in DPS.

I'm sure there are players who would rather not have an aggro aura - much like there are players who prefer to skip their toggles, arguing they perform better with the extra endurance. People make all kinds of poor decisions based on an incorrect understanding of the game environment, it's important not to confuse beliefs with facts.
