  1. It's a goal for all my toons.

I don't think WP can push the bar as far as Invul, but it should be fine for taking on AVs one on one (at least with insps, which I use all the time despite this topic. ).
  2. The RWZ challenge is taking on a +4 spawn of riktis with at least 3 bosses, without insps.
  3. Nihilii

    Is it worth it

I've found the added survivability to be worth it in many common situations - psi heavy missions, or just teaming ; being able to play tankerlight is fun, so is duoing AVs or GMs with friends (imho). It's also cool to have a toon so tough you know you'll be able to handle whatever the game throws at you even if you end up in a terrible pickup group.

I'd say you should ask yourself are you trading anything for this stuff, like any other power you'd rather have ? If the answer is yes, I'd go with the powers you want instead of tough/weave/aid self.

Otherwise, well, it doesn't matter much anyway. You might as well go for the great survivability. The build you posted should be affordable for about 300-400m if you're moderately patient with your bids, so I say go for it. Worst comes to worst, if you finally get bored with the character, you can always use respecs to move the IOs to your next alt, so all the money you spend won't be wasted in any case.
  4. So that is a bug. Good to hear, thanks.
  5. With the /suppresscloseFX 1 command.

I have /suppresscloseFXdist set at a high number, it works perfectly fine on other sets such as Fire Armor, Invulnerability, Dark Armor (without CoD), Electric Armor... but with Willpower it doesn't seem like anything changes, regardless if the command is on or off.

Granted, the graphics aren't too obnoxious, but on a female character it's rather noticeable. There's also an annoying aura over the whole body every ten seconds or so.

Does anyone know of a workaround to suppress Willpower FX effects ?
  6. I think a special someone is back, and not on a trial account this time.

Anyone else had weird enquiries regarding a very specific topic lately ?

I can't say much more, because if he is watching he might call me a fat nerd. The horror.

We really need special scrapper forum codetalk to discuss this kind of stuff.

Hopefully, this is just me being paranoid.
  7. A shameless selfbump, to end this topic, as I finally decided to reroll as a DB/WP.

Warning, ego rambling and random thoughts following.

I've thought about rerolling Nihilii for a long time since I became more knowledgeable about the game (mostly thanks to scrapper forum folks ). DB/inv, DM/inv brute, Inv/DB tanker, and DB/SR, DB/WP scrapper were options I considered.

This isn't to say DB/Inv is bad, but quite often I'd fight something and thought "I could beat this if I was [something else]." With the AE system, I'm also fighting many more exotic (especially psi) opponents than before.

In the end, DB is the part I really care about, so switching the secondary seems to be the obvious choice. WP has full mez protection, a tier9 power I actually like and much better regen. There are tradeoffs, but I don't mind losing maximum performance against specific foes to get better performance against the mobs I was weak against.

That being said, I don't think Invul is underpowered. It might be poorly designed, but I think it's just my playstyle that doesn't mesh with the set (anymore).

It's been a great ride, from having trouble fighting Battlemaiden to taking on 6 AVs solo and doing full melee STFs - with almost the same build ; and some people say there's no skill at all in this game? I guess I had some really bad luck first and some really good luck later.

Anyone still here ? Wow ! I can't believe you read all that. Here's a few more AV videos as your "reward".

    Back Alley Brawler
    Screenshots : 1 2
    Video

Three heavy hitters, with one of them doing high mag knockback ? Ouch...

Very fun to fight. I was worried he'd have a low recharge Unstoppable, but actually he doesn't, and thanks to the AI glitch Powerforge discovered, he didn't activate Temp Invul and Unyielding during the fight.

    Synapse
    Screenshots : 1 2
    Video

This fight was harder than the first time I fought him, which is odd as I didn't have the +3def PVP IO back then. His autohit whirlwind, being pure smashing, doesn't annoy me too much, but his energy/smashing flurry can be dangerous. He doesn't drain end too much except with his nuke, which hit me the second time so I had to run behind a corner.

    Mynx
    Screenshots : 1 2
    Video

Not too tough, although I almost died once and had to pull back to heal later. Her damage is on average very low, except for Flurry and Eviscerate which seems to crit all the time.

    Psyche
    Video

The first psychic AV I could take on without insps... That is, because she only has two damaging psi attacks, and one of them (psychic shockwave) is used only once, when she's low on life.
  8. DB is a decent primary for AV killing, but Katana is plain better at the task, it's also more click heavy as Katana's best chain involves heavy use of the fastest animating (IIRC) scrapper power, Gambler's Cut.
  9. It's also worth mentioning being at 32.5% means one luck will softcap you for troublesome situations. With a full insp tray, that's up to 20 minutes of awesome survivability (granted, this is assuming you don't face tohit buffs or defense debuffs ).
  10. Empower gives a 10% damage buff for Brutes, the 30% damage is from Blinding Feint.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Like most MMO end game raids its a place to show how skilled you are as a player, how well you built your toon, and how well you can work together on a team.

    [/ QUOTE ]

... but ultimately, like most MMO end game raids, for many folks it's only about taking the path of least resistance.

I'd bet real money most MSTFs are done with at least one tanker or two defenders on team.
  12. That might be just one specific controller combo (plant/rad) compared to a few specific scrappers (db/inv, kat/fire), but my controller was much easier to play and much safer while leveling. I was playing it much more aggressively than I played my scrappers at the same level.

ST Damage wasn't a problem either ; of course, I see many other controllers skip the ST immobilize, which boggles my mind, seeing as it's their best attack. It'd be like skipping Smite on a DM scrapper.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
What hasn't is that the base 30% recharge debuff res is also enhancable. Recharge enh buffs this. My BS/SD is currently running with almost 75% recharge debuff res (including Winter's gift).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for mentioning that. It might be time to tweak my SD/DM again...
  14. With that chain, I think you'd be better off switching the Dam/Rech for Damage in both Slash and Focus.

I'd change the Miracle Heal/End for a Numina Heal/End - the third set bonus is the same, but Numina goes up to 50 and gives more health. Every % you can grab is important without Aid Self.

Other random thoughts I don't feel like doing the math for :

Is the BU Proc better than a damage proc with that build, seeing as you're going to have FU stacked so much and damage bonuses from Red Fortunes, Apocalypse ?

What's the better choice between 4 impervium and one additional slot in CP, for end management ? Dropping CP downtime from 90s to 70s seems big to me (and it'd allow for +1.5% HP with 3 Titanium Coating in Tough).

As for Stamina, another slotting option would be 3 perf shifter and 2 efficacy adaptor for an additional +1.12% hp, losing +2.5% dam and +2.5% recovery.

Looks like between Focus and Shockwave, you could keep ~80 ranged DPS while kiting for regen... Interesting.

    The Challenge...

    [ QUOTE ]
FYI Nihili, you left out a spot for your PVP IO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh crap, good point heh !

The build I posted is really just Reask's build with a few tweaks, the fix would be to pull the slot from Taunt and put it in one of the armors (slightly lowering recovery again, but not by that much).
  16. An additional 0.15 EPS isn't very likely to suddenly break your endurance bar.
  17. Nihilii

    The Challenge...

    Nice build, Reask.

One thing bugged me when I was looking at it, though - Rage isn't perma, which means you'd get the -20 defense drop when it crashes. DA having no defense debuff resistance, this could get ugly in some situations.

I've moved a few things around to keep defense softcapped with the PVP IO and get Rage perma. However, the recovery is down to 1.5 end/sec without accolades (1.81 with accolades).

  18. Sometimes I charge, sometimes I take the opportunity to look at websites or do RL stuff while waiting. I've found it's good to alternate both so your teammates don't get frustrated at the crazy scrapper rushing all the time.
  19. There's a couple things I've seen I can't agree with.

Taking Grant Cover, one power pick and no additional slot, doesn't in any way gimp your damage. I don't remember the exact numbers, but I think there's about 23 powers and 67 additional slots at level 50.

It doesn't reduce your mobility either, unless you choose to reduce your mobility to get (what you feel is) the most out of it. I play the same way with or without GC - except defense debuffs and slows aren't as dangerous with GC on, but that's another topic - the difference is with GC my teammates get some buffs if they're close.

Oh, I think I've seen suggestions to decrease Shield resistance and put some defense into Grant Cover. Let me say if this happens, I'll have to come to the house of whoever suggested that and Shieldbash them to death.

GC is IMHO a situational (as in, not everyone will be in range all the time) and team buff power, by its very nature it's going to be a controversial power. Pick any situational or team buff power and you'll have very different opinions from players, ranging from "awesome" to "crap in a can". That doesn't make these powers bad, they just don't work for everyone.
  20. Myth : Everyone can play the market and, starting from nothing, make hundreds of millions in a few weeks. New marketeers don't hurt old marketeers.

Fact : Only a tiny part of the playerbase plays the market, which is why there's room for new marketeers without a noticeable difference in market income for old marketeers. If absolutely everyone would start playing the market, profit margins would shrink. The smartest, patient folks might still be able to make a profit, but not everyone. The market doesn't create influence, it destroys it. As it is, it's only redistributing the influence among the playerbase.

Myth : Marketeers want to help people. Marketeers know how to help people.

Fact : Using a condescending tone is never a good way to get people to listen to you.

Myth : There is one right way to consider the market, everything else is wrong.

Fact : In any economic system, there's different point of views, none of them being exactly right and none of them being exactly wrong. Economics use maths, but it's first and foremost a social science, and no social science has only one correct answer.

Myth : Popularity implies veracity. If most marketeers agree on a point of view about the market, it's the correct point of view. If most marketeers agree on a claim being a fact, it's a fact.

Fact : The validity of a claim is irrelevant of its popularity.

Myth: If you say stuff against the market or the marketeers, you're a stupid idiot who doesn't understand the market, doesn't understand math and speaks from emotion.

Fact : I make money from the market, and I like doing it. I like the market. I happen to disagree with the point of view of some other folks who also like the market. That's about it.
  21. I started playing a few weeks before i13.
  22. I think you're right, blueruckus. Grant Cover is awesome, skipping it if you team often and build for performance is in my opinion a mistake. I've seen that power turning losing battles into victories more often than not.

I didn't take it at first... Then I played with one of my friend who had it. It changed my mind, fast, and I'm not looking back now.

Seeing as Positron's strongest AoE that's not a DoT or a one time nuke hits for about 800-900 damage as a level 53 AV against level 50 characters while EF is up, seeing as even squishies have over 1000 hit points and should be out of range of the AoE anyway... Nope, I haven't.

The two experimented folks on the team told us the usual order is Numina, then Psyche, then Positron, and not Positron right after Numina. One of them is my friend, I'll believe him over your crazy rants, especially as our run was successful and your own runs are, by your own affirmations, exercises in frustration.

Wiping to split AVs is also something I've never seen or ever heard of from anyone else on the numerous discussions about the RSF.

Yes, this is offtopic. That's the problem when you make insane claims that doesn't reflect the game experience of others - people will call you on it.

Name calling won't get you any point either, it'll just make me take the bait and ask this hypothetical question : if a retarded newbie is successful at his first RSF fun on a PuG without cheap tricks or minmaxed teams, what does that make a veteran who still has trouble with this RSF after years of playing ?

Forgot to mention - you're also on my ignore list now. I'm afraid I might start losing brain cells if I keep reading your posts.

    The Challenge...

Impressive values on your second build, Reask. Just some thoughts : I'd switch the Miracle Heal in Health to a Recharge IO in CP - this lowers its recharge by 70s, which is much better for end management than +1.5% recovery (of course, it loses a little regen in Health, but this isn't a problem with Dark Regen).
