But Square Enix can't and won't do it, even if it would make them many millions. Why?

This isn't a direct quote, but it went something like: "The technology of the time was perfect for a game like Final Fantasy VII."

Some people overanalyzed what he said, and came to this conclusion, which actually makes sense: Final Fantasy VII COULD be remade, but to have the amount of content with new graphics and possible DLC in dungeons and the like would take far, far too long.

We all remember the amount of towns that were in Final Fantasy VII. Yet, there weren't really any to be seen in XIII, and Square admitted that a lot of content (like an entire games worth of bonus dungeons) was cut from XIII to get it to be able to fit on the 360. Hence, no towns.

If they didn't create one town for XIII, I doubt they'd create 10+ towns in a VII remake.

There are other reasons, but the sheer amount of time and manpower needed is the main reason why we may never see a remake.

As for Cell, he wouldn't have gotten so strong if Vegeta hadn't let his ego get the best of him and let Cell absorb the androids.

That's really unfair when you think about it. It seems that non-sayians have a level cap on how strong they are allowed to become, while sayians have no limit. Unless there are other alien races (like Pikkon's) who become stronger after every battle?

And then there were some beings in the afterlife who had trained themselves for 2,000 years. (Such as the Hercules-looking guy) Even Goku was shocked when he heard that. Which is what causes me disbelief when you mentioned Piccolo......I know that one day for us = one year in the time chamber, but even if he had trained utilizing various methods for 10 days (10 years in the time chamber), it still wouldn't be enough. I guess you can't outlevel an enemy in DBZ like you can in most RPGs unless you are a sayian.

At the same time, Goku and Vegeta (Both being Saiyans) also get stronger with each defeat, coming back more powerfull each time they recover from death/near death. (In fact, the same appears to be true for the Halfblooded Saiyans like Gohan, Goten, and Trunks).

At the same time, we've also seen Goku train to overcome weaknesses. An example of this was when Goku had Gohan and Himself spend the entire time in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber in Super Saiyan mode, so that it became as natural to them as anything else. This elemenated the weakness of causing their reactions to slow down as they became more powerfull (An issue Trunks first discovered for himself when going up against an Imperfect Cell). So it's not that it's stuff just being pulled out the ***, without any real explanations.
Usually when a post like this appears, I ask the following question, but rarely have I gotten an answer.....

How much longer would the people who trained in the time chamber (Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Trunks) have had to stay in to become Cell's equal, without powering up or transforming, assuming the rule could be broken and one could stay in the time chamber beyond the normal limit?

I never did find it fair how strong Cell was, who never trained a day in his life. He absorbed 2 androids and hundreds of humans to increase his power, but still.....You'd think Dr. Gero would have programmed battle simulations into Cell........or did he?

Well it certainly isn't about "Quality not Quantity" anymore......

Sequels in movies usually "kill" them when the 3rd movie hits in most cases, especially when it comes to superhero movies.

    X3: The Last Stand

    Spider-Man 3

    Blade Trilogy

Batman Forever (I expect an argument about this one)

    Superman III

    Am I forgetting any?

I saw this similar quote on other articles that have covered this.

Why can't the same parents go after those crap reality TV shows on MTV instead?

The blue number is the maximum amount of hit points that you have at that time.
  15. People would disagree with me, and I would hear their arguments while giving my own......but where is Batman?

Anyone who can use materials to have a high tech suit still be considered to be state of the art 20 years later (Batman Beyond) deserves mention, even if it isn't his primary profession.
  16. To be honest, that actually looks like a fun mob to be surrounded by.

Defeating all of them, is another matter....
  17. A radiation emission/radiation blast defender.

The name I chose for him didn't really fit, (Battlesteel) and since name changing wasn't around back then, that wasn't an option.

Plus, due to too many years of Dynasty Warrior type games, all I could really stand to play were melee oriented characters. It wasn't until my annual playthrough of Final Fantasy (or its various ports) that I realized out how fun buffing and debuffing could be at times.

I deleted the character at 30, during a double xp weekend. If we get another such weekend sometime before the end of the year, I may give it yet another try.
  18. Speaking of....I believe I saw this on TV Tropes, but I forget the name of the trope, to be honest.

Even if a character's only power is the ability to shoot fire from their hands, they can still survive blows from superhumanly strong foes. Does anyone happen to remember what exactly that trope is called?

And a bit back on topic, I remember that anime characters are allowed to bend the rules, and sometimes outright break them. Through intense martial arts training, characters are allowed to leap vast distances, mimic being superhumanly strong, become bulletproof, project energy, et al. Having the blood of a different species or alien race tends to be a bonus, but even anime humans can become as strong as most heavy hitting comic characters through their training methods.
  19. I prefer a perfect balance of both.

Street Fighter is a good example. Characters are able to project energy attacks much like characters in Dragonball Z, but not to the point that their fights can cause destruction to an entire planet. There are gods who don't have that much power, regardless of the media. There are scenes of Akuma destroying a submarine with a Gou Shoryuken, Sagat being able to hold his breath for 20 minutes, some Street Fighters being bullet proof, and more, but things like these don't go overboard like Dragonball Z did.

I know Darkstalkers are capable of near-Dragonball Z level destruction, but the amount of characters in the roster that could actually do that is usually kept to a very small minimum.

If you were to take the flip side of the coin there Owl man is the character batman should be. (or closer to.) He actually has better tech and enhanced himself with it why he could actually throw down with Wonder woman (mind you she isn't a murderous psycho) far more evenly and it's not remotely as jarring. Batman has the I'm riding around in a wheelchair for the fun of it mentality because super powers actually slow me down B.S. going.
To be honest, there isn't anything (other than being lost in time) stopping Batman from creating the Batman Beyond suit or some equivalent to help him even the playing field between far superior foes. I know it is capable of taking blows from Superman.

Fans would wail though, since they already feel that Batman is too much like Iron Man, in the way that he has a gadget for everything. But come on....when you find yourself against powered enemies more often than normal for a non-powered hero, you kinda do need a gadget for everything.
  21. I had this idea after reading the FrankenCastle thread, and watching Crisis on Two Earths.

Most people don't like it when Badass Normals are put into fights against beings that grossly outclass them. For some reason, the only genre that fans let get away with this is fantasy, though it isn't always the case. Yes, it is true that Batman would never be able to beat Superman, due to him being only peak human, and Superman being invulnerable and all that. One punch from Superman would cripple if not outright kill Batman.

But why is it that powered heroes are allowed to survive punches from vastly strong villains, with almost no ill effects? Especially when most of them aren't invulnerable, able to regenerate at will, and everything in between?

For example, when Batman summons several heroes to the watchtower in Crisis on Two Earths, Black Lightning is attacked by Superwoman. It wasn'ta glancing blow either.....that punch that she gave him made the entire room vibrate. And he gets up from it.

As far as I know, Black Lightning's ability to resist damage isn't any greater than Batman's. Black Lightning can be shot and killed, or beaten to a pulp just like any non-invulnerable hero. But as I said, he shrugged off the blow as if he had resistance on par with Superman's. But I have seen many people cry foul when Batman was able to get up after Superwoman broke one of his ribs, and then knocked her out with Anestheic Gas Pellets.

Does having any sort of superpower, even if they don't involve an ability to withstand fantastic degrees of damage instantly render someone immune to being killed from a blow by someone with vast strength? We've seen it a lot, and I've never understood it.

To reference the other thread of Punisher being killed by Daken for biting of more than he could chew......wouldn't the same thing have happened to someone else, even if they had powers? The only things that I could see useful in a fight against someone like Daken would be to possess an equal or greater level or regeneration, be superstrong and/or invulnerable. You can possess all the firepower you want, and I know the best defense is a strong offense and all.....but what do you do to someone that can instantly regenerate from anything you throw at them?

No, Punisher didn't have much of a chance due to Daken's powers......but how many heroes who aren't heavy hitters would have anyway? (IIRC, Daken is as resistant to telepathic attacks as his father Wolverine)

To kind of flip flop it a bit as well, when people say that Batman shouldn't beat anyone with powers, I agree.....to a point. No, Batman can't outfight someone who is invulnerable, but there are many powered villains who are not. Yes, Dr. Light could manipulate light in various ways, but it didn't do him any good once Batman got close. If you aren't invulnerable, you WILL be knocked out by someone who broke a punching bag once just because he couldn't concentrate one night. Not to mention the fact that he knows exactly where to hit you, and how hard. Shang Chi, Iron Fist, and other martial artists are examples as well.

I believe Storm did something similar as well to a villain who had a wide array of powers, but no resistance to damage.

I'm looking forward to discussing this.

in real life there would be no such thing as super man's shining example of the selfless hero. the closest thing you could get would be a batman style anti-hero. to be totally realistic, i think it's unlikely you would see much of a polarization between super heroes and super villains at all. in reality, a person with a "lawful good" alignment is so rare, in much the same way as people with "chaotic evil" are not very common. most people are in the middle, and would most likely try and find a productive way to use their powers for some practical purpose to feed themselves and make a good life for their loved ones or possibly try and hide their powers and either not use them at all, or use them very discretely to avoid drawing attention to themselves. those who can not hide their powers due to physical abnormalities would probably have to live in hiding.

the truth is that regular humans, the media, governments, etc. all have something to lose by accepting the major paradigm shift that would come from integrating super powered beings into society. countless groups would have interest in reverse-engineering super powers and that could become an all consuming industry in and of itself...

So, as my posts from all those months ago said: We would get treated like heroes in Marvel do. The Marvel populace is distrusting, hates supers because of the damage they cause, they hate mutants because they are jealous of their powers and fear being replaced(as Magneto once pointed out), and many other reasons.

DC Hero treatment wouldn't last long in the real world. Just like celebrities and professional athletes.....you can be very well liked, but if you screw up, even just once......

    Why?

I've seen characters in fantasy books who have taken on mad gods, ancient abominations, eldritch horrors, dragons, and even entire armies with just mundane weapons (though some have magical weapons), and most people don't have a problem with that.

For what it's worth, some Badass Normals have gadgets that even the playing field between the non-powered and super-powered beings. No, Batman doesn't have the strength or speed to take down Superman with Martial Arts. But there have been times where he has donned a suit of armor or created gadgets to take on rogue kryptonians, be they canon or non-canon. Example: The Batman Beyond suit can withstand blows from Superman quite well.

Even a Superman from the future, who is vastly more powerful than the modern one admitted that he got tired of getting the crap kicked out of him by Batman's gadgets.

    AE.

Yes, it left a bad taste in everyone's mouth due to rampant farming, exploits, channel spam, and more. That doesn't mean AE became completely useless......especially to those who complain about having nothing to do, or the game being too easy. Why aren't they doing AE? Most people can't see past the bad press it got, and we all know the saying about first impressions.

Yes, farms are still there. So are arcs that were forgotten about, and arcs that are badly written and plagued with typos. Does it mean it's worthless and sucks times 10? To most, maybe. There are some very high quality written arcs to be found, however......but how many people would give AE a second chance?

    Not many, sadly.
