For DCUO on PC, can you manage to work an xbox controller into it?
I tried way back when the game first came out, but couldn't get it to work. I recall there being a way to do it, but it didn't work for me. Maybe it does now, I'd have to check.

I admit that I was stunned and thrilled when I got to the space station, but the gameplay just didn't do it for me.
The lack of depth to character customization will probably turn off a lot of CoH players too. But I never really got the feeling that DCUO ever intended to recreate the superhero experience; not like CoH (or even CO) anyway. It seems built more for "hey you ever want to fight alongside Batman, or buddy up with Lex Luthor? Here's you chance!" It comes off more like a 3rd person fighter game with a version of the DCU as a backstory.

I think the two things that really bug me is the 4th string, Ace the Bathound's errand-boy feel, and the fact that if you sneeze you obliterate every inanimate object in a 50ft radius. And that's if you're a non-powered hero like me.
  3. Yeah, you have to worry about how CNN would spin the story if they were to run it. My concern would be them giving out the wrong details (which happens a lot) or reporting it in a way that, rather than making us out to be dedicated fans, they make us out to be a bunch of 35 year old virgins nerdraging in Mom's basement.
  4. Shared on Twitter (though I only have 24 followers...). Hopefully, the #ireport thing is counted.

In my own personal canon, PC, MC, Gotham/Metropolis all exist on the same Earth, so Knight'Hawk (my main) tends to hop around between them with Paragon being his "home". Although I haven't adjusted my CO bio yet to reflect current events, I'll probably pass it off as "Knight'Hawk felt his work in Paragon was complete, and has moved to MC full time" or something like that.

I can tolerate the art enough to not be totally put off by it, but I'm not a fan of the combat system or animations. It's also hard to feel invested in my character and the "story" because for the most part there is no "story" at least that I've seen. Majority of the solo content is you more traditional errand-boy missions that you see in MMOs. CoH isn't immune to those either, but it masks that feeling better.

Still, and I mentioned it on their forums too, I'm grateful for the warm welcome. Especially since I always got the feeling that our "rivalry" was an extremely competitive one, and I was almost expecting a "yeah, one down, one to go" attitude. I'm glad I was wrong though.

  8. Somewhat out of date as my CoH and CO costumes have changed a bit recently. I'm sort of waiting for better DCUO costume pieces so I can get a similar appearance between the 3 to do an updated shot.
  9. First character and main character, originally from Protector: Night-Hawk (now Knight'Hawk on Freedom).

Created June 2007, the first costume is an approximation as I only had it on him for about a week or so before moving on to the 2nd costume (minus the rocket boots; didn't get those for another couple years). That 3rd costume came after the I17(?) doppelganger arcs after the first one was "destroyed" when that building explodes at the end of the second part. And finally that last costume was made here on the forums in the "costume re-design" thread by Fennec (along with some armored variants).

He's always been a MA/SR Scrapper, though after StJ came out I considered re-rolling him as a StJ/WP Scrapper as that would probably be far more accurate (he's what I think I would be if I were a hero, and I have zero martial arts training, though I do have good reflexes ). Obviously now, there'd be no point, but in the end I probably wouldn't have done it anyway.

Even after the servers go dark, be that 3 months or 3 years, you will find him occasionally helping out in Millennium City and Gotham City. Not ready to hang up the cape just yet.
  10. That sucks. I didn't know him by name, but saw who he was through Facebook. I always knew him as "the big dude from The Green Mile". My brother's not going to be happy, he was a big fan. RIP.
  11. That's an....interesting site; especially for an article about CoH to appear on. Nevertheless, publicity is publicity.
  12. While I'm not calling Smedley a liar, I've learned that in a lot of cases like these "no" really means "not right now". What he said in that message may have been true at the time he wrote it, but I bet after he hit "send" the thought crossed his mind as something to bring up at their next big meeting. And even if they (SOE) don't go for it, that doesn't mean no one else will, so until the servers go dark in November I'm still hopeful.

Yeah. Not sure if he has an actual name, but "Captain Sweatpants" has shown up a few times. A City of Heroes/Villains stand-up has had a few appearances in the comic shop as well, and recently Leonard referenced it in the episode where they all get SWTOR and were trying to decide which side to play on.

    Fusionette.

    Fusionette I could tolerate. Flamebuex....

    I...

I haven't lost it yet. I still firmly believe that there's a chance we haven't fought our last battle; I think that hope, no matter how ridiculous some may think it is, may be what's holding me together. That said, I made a trip to the store earlier and was listening to my iPod. "Rise of the Heroes" is on it....I almost had to pull over....

It'll probably hit me like a bus when my account lapses in a few days.
  16. 5. The game world(s). Only thing I'd have wanted to see was the bringing down of the war walls in Paragon and make it more like Praetoria. The zone revamps we were getting were nice too. I'm going to miss the immovable boxes, too.

    4. The story. All of it. There's such a deep history to this game, and so much detail (one of my other favorites) in it. Even the CoH universe has only been around for 8+ years, it seemed like it'd been around far, far longer than that.

    3) The details, mostly the little ones. Everything from the NPC conversations, to the seemingly more natural animations our characters had (compared to the other two). The top 3 things I'm going to miss here are cape physics, knockback, and ragdoll physics.

    2) The "feel". For the 5 or so years I was here, I actually felt like a superhero. Not just an errand-boy with a cape and not a 4th stringer either. Sure we had the Freedom Phalanx to look up to, but as you leveled up and gained experience, you started taking on the same threats as them and working alongside them. And with the Incarnate content, you could surpass them. My main is an Incarnate, and it's weird but awesome that after 5 years here the NPC conversations always defer to my character's judgement "because of my stature". It feels....heroic.

    1) The people. From the Devs, to the gamers, to the forumites. I'm probably not the most well known here (or anywhere), but I've been in a few game communities (or have been) and this is by far the best one out there. Even with some fights and disagreements, I think at the end of it all whether that's in 3 months or 3 years, we're all brothers and sisters thanks to this game. If the unbelievable happens and this game is saved, I think this crisis will only make us stronger and bring us closer.

  17. Keep forgetting about all that. I have ~10 days to run the iTrials at least once and wrap up the whole Praetorian story (the parts that we have anyway).
  18. I've posted this in one of the other threads, but felt it was appropriate, especially cause it was done by one of our own: City of Heroes Orchestral: Rise of the Heroes.

While not a game, Star Trek was saved once and had a stay of execution at a later time due to communities "wailing and gnashing their teeth". It may not work every time, but it has worked before. Like others, I'd rather do something no matter how futile than just sit and watch the water slowly drain out.

Ah. Wasn't sure if people looked at him as "early Batman" or "newer Sherlock Holmes". I'll probably look through those stories as well.

Yep. Finally wrapped up First Ward last night, and nearing the end of DA on my main. Next: Night Ward, iTrials, and the TFs I haven't yet run.

Well, again, I would like to reiterate, I'm not lumping everyone over there into the "don't bother" group. Heck, there's probably some Americans in there too, I just haven't seen them.

EDIT: Don't kid yourself though, Valve has no reason to pick up a dying, decade old MMO.
Dying? No. We may not have been one of the heavy hitters in the MMO market, and may not have made NCSoft a truckload of money, but CoH was in no way "dying". There was a ton of content in the pipelines, and considerably more in the planning stages, some of it to be released in the very near future. I'd say we had a good 3 years left had yesterday's events not happened.

You're asking them to make a simply colossal effort, which is what this is, for very little return. You know what, I think they're going to do nothing and continue to be mind bogglingly wealthy without the effort.
Judging by the "EU" in your name I'm assuming you're from Europe? This is by no means my $#*tting you guys, just an observation, but it seems a lot of those saying "don't bother, they'll never go for it" or something similar in other threads are from that region. I don't know how it works on that side of the globe, but in the U.S., letter-writing campaigns actually can influence decisions made by companies. The obvious example is Star Trek, which was saved TWICE by letter-writing campaigns; once to save the original series, and the second time gave Enterprise a 4th season. A letter-writing campaign

They don't always work, in fact most times they probably don't, but that's no reason to NOT try. I've never understood the mentality that because something is an attempt in futility means it shouldn't be attempted at all.

Quinch, whether it works or not, thanks for the attempt!
  25. Didn't see this posted yet, but I'm curious what other peoples' plans were for the next 6 months - a year (if you were looking that far ahead).

For me, I recently contracted Altitus. A few months ago, I think I only had 3 characters on either side of the fence, and none were above level 20. Now, I have 4 or so on either side and 2 in Praetoria, and most of them are slowly climbing in level (one is just about to hit 30, the next highest is about to hit 15). So I was going to be here a while trying to level all them up.

Another project was base building with my main. I finally really hit it hard a couple weeks ago, and slowly things were coming together. With that same character, I was also working my way up the Incarnate tree, so both of those things were going to keep that toon busy for a while (plus wanting to do the standard Trials and TFs, especially the ones that counted for the Taskforce Commander badge).

Finally, I was considering a sequel to the AE arc in my sig. One that told the story of the relationship between Knight'Hawk and Dark'Falcon (the former's Praetorian counterpart), and what was going to lead to the latter switching from Villain to Vigilante.

So, what were y'all going to do?
