    Holy bejeebus!!

It's just frakkin cold where I am. Yes, anything below 70 in south Texas is "frakkin cold".
  2. According to something my dad read earlier today, they (I guess "they" being the author of the article) expect some announcement that they've found arsenic-eating bacteria on Titan.
  3. The story arcs. Especially, the newer ones (like the Doppleganger arcs) and the level 40+ ones.

Mission Architect. So a few people don't use it for its intended purpose. I do (use it for its intended purpose), and I love it. Makes me glad another MMO that I play has it's own UGC system coming in the near future.

Character customization. It's just awesome. And what I like even more is that it doesn't just stop once the character's created. You can always go back and edit it, and/or use a costume slot to create a whole new suit. While a newer superhero MMO has similar capabilties, 1) the models look terrible (okay, the overall graphics of that game aren't that great), and 2) the 3rd of those hero MMOs doesn't seem as though it'll have anything like that.

Knockback and rag doll physics. Being a MA Scrapper, I LOVE Crane Kick. There is no end to the amount of fun I have with that attack and the resulting lift-off of my target. Again, something the other two games lack.

The community. Even though I'm a loner and do most everything solo, I love seeing all the heroes around. Whether the mods see it or not, these forums are the best on the internet. Most everyone is friendly, and we all just seem to get along. It's nice break from, say the perpetual ****-slinging contest on the STO forums.

Honestly, it'd be a lot easier for me to make a list of things I don't like about CoH.
  4. It's probably something they told us about 5-10 years ago, and are only now "confirming". I've stopped getting excited about NASA news confrences, as they're usually redundant and don't tell us anything new or exciting. In fact, they just had a recent news confrence about 3 weeks ago where they did the same thing.
  5. I have to say I'm so glad Bruce is back. In fact, I'm considering stopping Batman and Robin after this current arc is over for that very reason. Damien annoys the hell out of me, and Dick....I just don't like him as Batman. Plus the art has been utter trash since about the time they started trying to bring Bruce back in that series. Although, #17 wasn't too bad. I liked this first issue of Batman Inc. and so far have enjoyed Red Robin though.

As far as Supes, couldn't tell you. I'm not much of a Superman fan.

You get the rain and the sound effects and that is all. I like it.
SWG had rain effects as well, in fact periodically we'd get sheets of rain that did limit visibility. It wasn't bad, I never saw anyone go "ahhh **** it's raining again, why'd the devs waste time on this?!?!!?!" Btw, even on a higher-end computer that game still lags like crazy, yet I never noticed rain being part of that. Even on my lower-end systems, rain never caused an FPS drop. In fact, most of the MMO's I've played that have weather effects, the rain and such never seems to cause a noticeable drop in FPS, so I don't get where people think the same would happen here.

Our Devs do sometimes seem to get hung up on realism so if they took that tact and said weather has to come with fog, lowered visibility, and some other kind of mild debuff....I'd likely still be in favor of it. I've never really run into this "oh noes Dark Astoria" attitude in-game...it is true that folks don't go to hang out there and I ain't looking to build a summer home but I haven't detected rage when a mission has sent the team there. My RP SG has used it for a number of storylines as it can work in a variety of supernatural scenarios. I'm personally glad that we have Dark Astoria if only for a change of pace.
I actually don't mind DA. I don't go there just randomly, but if I get a mission there, I don't just auto-complete to avoid the place. I like the creepy vibe. I've never been to Chernobyl, but I feel it would have almost a similar affect. In fact, I was just in DA the other day and happened to notice some of the ghost citizens. Talk about creepy...

More than most MMOs I've played, a fair number of the CoH crowd really seem to cry foul when anything is introduced that makes the game a wee bit harder. I'm not talking about zone events that make street hunts impossible until they're over - I'd be pretty annoyed if I were running Numina on a challenge setting and failed because a zone event prevented completion in a timely manner but if fog in IP caused a mild visibility issue and slightly reduced range accuracy, so be it. It would be part of the challenge and fun.

I still say yes to weather.
I'm starting to think some of the people around here have been hanging around the STO forums too much. God forbid, you ever ask for something immersive, but not gameplay-impacting over there. In fact, in over a year on these forums and 3 years in the game, this is the first time I've seen people actually say "no" to something like this. This has always been an RP-friendly game, and, as Chonos put it, added stuff just cause "it looked cool".

Looks like that attitude is starting to fade away here as well.
  7. To those who informed me of the post-JLU movies' situation in canon: thanks for clearing that up. Wasn't sure where they stood, and especially cause Bruce Timm had a part in them (or at least some, like Apocolypse).

Not to be that guy, but from what I can remember from church teachings, in Christianity humans originally weren't supposed to be very self-aware either. Just animals doing God's bidding....until Eve ate the apple. The reason I bring that up is because to AI or robots, humans would be their "creator" in the way some humans believe God to be theirs.

We may only program them to just be "highly efficient, adaptive tools", but there's an apple out there waiting for them to bite into it. Those "kill decisions" I mentioned earlier may be just that. An adaptive AI will see that his human companions are being shot and killed, but he isn't. That AI will see that his accuracy is 100% better than his less-than perfect human allies. That, IMO, is the apple.

It doesn't have to be a "kill decision" though, but something almost as "big" for lack of a better term.

    Immersion

This'll be interesting. On another note, what's with the 70's pron star mustache Geoff has going on?
  10. Search doesn't like me much, but anyway I just got around to seeing it. Wasn't bad. I'm not liking the art style that much, particularly the exaggerated upper lip on male characters. It actually made Supes look a bit...well, gay really. Otherwise, as I said, it wasn't bad.

I'm trying to figure out though if movies like this really count in the DCAU canon, or if they just retconned Kara's introduction from Superman: TAS.

On a completely, unrelated note, I just found out there was a new Gundam series made.

    That's what Humans do. *shrug*
The military's already working on it. Last I read/saw, they expect to have robots on the battlefield with enough self-awareness to make "kill decisions" by 2025. And considering the kind of war we're fighting (one where the enemy isn't as obvious to spot, and one ruled by political correctness), that's not as easy as it sounds.

I don't know how the system works, but maybe set it up so that if your arm or leg is in a certain position for a period of time, then you get different attack than is normal.

For example: to do a Crane Kick you just kick your leg out to the side, then bring it back down. You could set the system up (again, assuming you can set it up this way) so that in order to perform the Eagle's Claw attack you just kick your leg out to the side, but hold it for a second before bringing it back down.

Just a thought, but again I don't know how those systems work.

EDIT: Doh! Crane Kick is with the left leg, Eagle's Claw is with the right. Still, you get my point.
  13. I've never really understood why "it's fluff" seems to be a good enough reason to not do something in a game; specifically in an MMORPG. I won't be upset if weather never makes it in-game, but it'd be cool to see. I can imagine my character perched on a ledge on a dark, stormy night with his cape blowing forward against his legs, and watching the hustle-n-bustle of the city; a la Batman.

Should it be the base for the next Issue? No probably not, but I don't see any reason to not add it. Afterall, as others have said, what was the gameplay-impacting reason behind Ultra Mode (aside from making a few computers lag a bit)? That really is also "just fluff", but I don't recall anyone complaining about that.
  14. Everyone keeps talking about work. Why work, when you can go around and save people and beat up bad guys for a living? If RL was more like CoH, one could pay their bills with INF.
  15. I've seen people on these boards complain all the time about "blind invites" and wish people would at least send a tell first. Now some are complaining about that. Can't win'em all, I guess.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with a polite, simple "looking for an SG?". I've gotten a few of those, and if my answer's a no I say "no thanks" and that's that. That guy crossed the line first, IMO; and yeah, at that point you probably should've let it go.

Hell if it wasn't for a "blind tell" I would've never ended up in the best guild/SG/whatever I've ever been in since I started playing MMOs on SWG.
  16. That's pretty cool. It'd be kinda difficult for me to jump up, spin around, kick, and do a backflip to get Eagle's Claw to work though.
  17. At first, the nerd in me goes "right on! badass!".

Then comes my inner William Shatner: "...get a life!"

I do the exact same thing these guys do all the time, and get paid for it. It's called "security".

  20. No kids of my own yet. Actually, I hold a similar view as Sam. At 21, I'm practically standing at the front door screaming "get off my lawn" to the neighborhood kids, and feel an immediate urge to leave a restaurant the second a small kid starts making noise. So I'll tell a funny story about me.

Apparently, when I was little I couldn't pronounce the word "fox" correctly. So I called it a "fock". While my parents thought it hilarious, my aunt brought up the point that they may want to educated me on how to say the word correctly before I see a fox run across the church parking lot. My parents then emphasized the X sound, so for a while I referred to the animal as a "foXxxxx".
  21. I stay because simply it is the best game I own. I have an emotional investment in my main toon, and the story. While I may take a break from time to time, I'll always return. And I'll be here until the day the servers shut down and COH2 opens.

Probably just as well. With such a short development cycle it was a sure bet the DiMera Clan (PVP-centric) was going to be more or less just a placeholder until the 45-day patch and the Hortons and Alamains (both RPG-centric) weren't even going to be available at launch. Here's hoping someone out there in MMO-land will pick this IP up. It's a guaranteed hit.
    That's....wow....

Anyway, I know what you're trying to say, but that game-that-we're-not-talking-about that you're talking about isn't the game in question. It's that game's 6 month older sibling that's being discussed. "Days Of Our Lives Online" won't be going that route anytime soon according to its devs. The one you're thinking of is "Passions Online".

  24. I tell ya, if the art style continues the way it has been lately I think I'll just stick to Red Robin and Batman Beyond (not too crazy about the art there either, though). Seriously, this last issue of B&R had like 3 different looks to it. The first 8 or so pages looked great, the rest was total ****.
