Evanescense, Black Eyed Peas, Meatloaf, Garbage, Muse, Marvin Gaye...well anything depending on what character I play!
A hero or villain has gotta have a theme tune. -
I rate this:
TEEN
Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.
Amazing effort! -

I wouldn't get caught up in 'comparing' your work to anyone else's. Everyone's different, every composition is different.

Just do it.
Love to do it.
And people like me will love you for it.

I decided on going without fitness pool and taking the SJ. Basically all crab attacks and the travel power that can be found on Recluse, sj. I did wonder how interesting combat kick may look on a crab come to think of it but went cj. With less acc needed, more end slots could be added so gimped depending on how much my end drain looks to end recovery but I just fancied it. Unhastened and forgetting numbers, I am settling for something that plays totally different to my other characters.

I am more known for my dpm than my dps anyway XD . -
I have every intention of having more than one so will stick my characters anywhere. With the random times I get to play that would be the best option.

Some people have an idea of what a Bane Spider should do and believe that to be right. The Devs who created the Bane Spider have an idea of what it should do and are right. Right because they created it. When a game designer made Pac Man you had to eat everything and run away from the ghosts. If a player insists on trying to eat the ghosts then that just can't be helped.
Only in terms of fun can I see a change made unless something is wrong and then if it is wrong why isn't it in a known issue?
With Banes thought to be challenging, your only going to get players that go "challenging!" and making one as well as ones going "this is pants" and quitting on one. Some people just don't do fun, they do challenging instead.
Generally speaking I'd say they all have roles, and from those roles you can specialize. These sets are flexible. You have the entire set of power pool choices to play with to round out your character more. Sometimes it takes thought on powers and slots and a respec to get what you wanted as opposed to having to try to think on what the Devs wanted. If a game gave people everything they wanted at once it'll have a short life span. -

From a survivability point of view as a Night Widow, comparing it to say a claws/sr or a spines/sr, I think you lack in hitpoints and resistance which is something you'd have to work around. Other than than I really can't say anymore.
-
Surveillance is a bit of a golden egg imo.
Banes are lucky [censored]
My Widow wants it. She could do with it. I'll have it without the -res and -def effects. Just show me the figures and I will gain something from it and use it because thats what I like to do anyway. I learn about the enemy and use that knowledge against them.
Its OMGness to me.
Night Widows have one less power choice otoh. Surveillance without the -def and -res would be really really nice!
These VEATs do leave Stalkers with even less of a role in teams. I don't know about anyone else but in playing one you need to get to melee, have no interruption and AS at speed, because teams move the enemy about or ET that enemy for you while your still going through the interrupt phase. In short its one AT that people can definitely get by without. Some people though are Elitist [censored] who need to take that thing from up their [censored] and ask themselves that if they are so elite "why do they need to have 8 man teams of fotms and not say 5 fotms and 1-3 of anyone?" -
Well if your coming from Willpower to SR you trade +end for +rechg and so just need to alter how you slot.
Evasion is a now made into a Taunt Aura I believe. Which is good. -
When the level speed was slower and debt was higher "some" people played in a way thats respecting the enemy more...now thats practically left until its time to gain certain badges.

I doubt devs would even see the posts. I mean, if it isn't constructive, well put etc then I don't think our mods will make them aware of it. Time is short.
I do not get the impression that the Devs take that much notice of europe anyway. The one Dev with the biggest post count over his/her duration of presence was probably Statesman I think by a long mile; that guy who allegedly never listened etc, etc so what chance is there I wonder? -

banes are melee oriented, i don't think i'll take many ranged powers other than mace blast; it's single target, which is how i prefer to fight, and im taking all my melee powers.
Their attacks are so good in terms of fun, and especially the bone crunching sound effects. Let me reiterate, banes are melee fighters, yet like so many have stated, their best defense is ranged.

There are times and places for everything, even if only a few seconds here and a few seconds there. As a tanker tanking an AV you may think I either spend all my time in melee or all my time kiting but it can be a bit of a mix. It is down to priorities. Sometimes you/team will do more damage by doing what is best to stay alive than you would playing in a way where you think you can treat every enemy the same and expect a divine right to be able to survive. Web Cocoon will be helpful in fighting melee ofc. Web grenade will be helpful in holding some back. Incidentally what I did knocking a Bane up offensively as a plan (with only powers randomly picked atm) I chose teleport pool. With TP foe I might be able to keep say 2 enemies far back with the WAWG and tp foe one to me whilst they will still be immob'd, placate and whoop. I am concentrating on Widows atm I must admit and so playing it could be a different barrel of beer. -

This is why most people fall down when trying Villains.
You just can not compare villains to heroes.
If you say for example a brute is a tank or a stalker is a scrapper then you stay playing very badly and do not enjoy the experience.
So villains are villains, heroes are heroes and VEATs are VEATs, just don't compare them to hero AT's and play them as villains a totally separate AT and you'll enjoy it alot more.

Yes but who was comparing villains to heroes? -
In my experience survivability isn't always in the shields but you do have to look at what shields you do have most of the time.
It doesn't matter what I do with a Bane, Wide Area Web Grenade and Web Cocoon simply seem to be a good idea to control and to kite when necessary.
Now in taking them I don't know if people are dropping in DPS but in using them on anything you reduce the enemies DPS. Lower DPS later streakbreaks, chance to heal self, time to regen. Ranged attacks from kiting web grenaded mobs are lower in Damage and less likely to hit. Cocooned enemies don't debuff you, perhaps lowering your dps.
Most definitely in teams generally I can't see a problem without them but solo..maybe. I'd like to watch someone solo. Solo I'd probably value control over debuff. I might choose Wide Area Web Grenade over Venom Grenade in order to kite easier in order to rely on my range def. Venom would help me defeat faster but sometimes the tortoise beats the hare. -
I would get a bread and butter attack chain, then hasten and then build up on an offensive build.
I may try an offensive build brb. -
I could easily see why your bored playing 2 MMs through the content. They are the same AT but changing an AT doesn't always change things much or does it.
I occasionally have a break and sometimes breaks are put upon me through work and then you come back not quite so easily remembering it all, refreshed in a way and carry on.
The problem with breaks is that you can jar friendships. I got a tell asking me if they done something wrong because I hadn't been able to log in when they are on and now I dunno where they are.
Most of my builds are experiments and that usually sees me through in time. As I level though people wonder what I am doing/trying to do/would like to do and wonder if I know the game at all XD -> Talk a good game.
Try a break or try an experimental SoA that no one else will have like I am trying with a Widow. -
I looked at a Bane build and as an AR player with munnitions I can see the following making me survivable and useful for teams in pve:
Maneuvers.
Cloak device
Surveillance
Wide Are Web grenade.
Venom Grenade
Frag grenade
Web Cocoon.
Reinforcements
Placate (rarely needed)
Wait I am building a wolf spider ain't I? XD
*back to the drawing board* -
I don't see widows with 15% Maneuvers Praf..oh no..XD..that is ofc unless they changed it since I last looked but Widows can comfortably be very elusive. Good idea imo seeing as with vengeance you'd want to be the most likely to be left standing.
As it is, everything is on test. So nothing is actually nerfed. Nothing is finalized...and I don't know but 20 sec recharge may of been unintended and tweaks to balance the change may not even happen.
At level 50 I do wonder what would put a Bane down in 7 seconds in PvP (20 secs recharge and hastened placate). Add the fact you might jump about, you'd never lose in a duel mode unless your a left handed female character.
Number crunching to see if things are balanced is a mammoth task. Its not simply compare this power with that and eliminate it. Some powers work with other powers better. It would take me days to compare sets, not even properly, just as best I could. Banes maybe okay! Its just everybody else... -
If you remember the rage power issue, they were going to remove the one component and extend the duration of another to compensate. I think thats how they do things to try and achieve balance. Ofc no one can balance to how anyone and everyone else plays.
I looked at Crowd Control then compared it to Maces Crowd control...very nice!
But its smash damage.
I think I'd need to play the whole set, have an understanding of what is going on solo or in teams and compare it to how things are designed to potentially be and min-max on excel the "whole" of the set before crying for a change. Dark tanks are coming, now that offers a fair reason for Icetanks to get a damage component in Frozen Aura to my way of thinking..which is obscure. Atm I have done known of that and so would try to constructively say "omg what will night widows be like when fixed?!!2!" knowing that later I can really bring it home as is anyway. -
I imagine they'd have to tip the scales elsewhere with that placate change but its going to take time to know exactly where.
-
The "Learn to Play" bit is key. Not just from anyone but from anyone who teams with you.
Currently Night Widows are bugged. I personally should really be getting mullered every I dunno..group.
In an all VEAT team it really pays for people to stick together stacking maneuvers for both widow and bane in the early levels.
In mixed teams, which is something thats not really seen on Test atm you will get your shields from corrupters, better damage mitigation of dominators, damage redirected by brutes etc etc.
As a dominator, corrupter, stalker or brute coming to a VEAT team stacked maneuvers will bring omgness.
As a VEAT coming to a mixed team there should be benefits.
Soloing, well thats something else and for a team set probably better avoided. I soloed a Bane for a little while and thought "is this all I got?" just getting to level 2. XD
I am currently doing Night Widow and when the bug is removed would hope that either everyone is buffing each other in teams or simply "trying" to do their job.
I don't get the american forums. I have played on US servers and they are generally no better "pats europe on the back". I rather read what the Devs say.
Note to Banes: Maneuvers 15% Def!
I'd damn well wanna play in a group of 3 and be hunting like a Velociraptors from Jurrasik Park!
I can't wait until Night Widow gets fixed so I can then see if I have problems. Somehow I think Banes would be generally more enjoyable in the later levels in comparison to Night Widows. -
How ATs are designed to play and how they get to play are two different things. When someone isn't playing by design the game must be broke. To play to everyones design we'd have one AT that could do everything. With Banes I see a variety of types that can be made. Each type is better suited to different people, with different playstyles and who play in different team make ups. Sometimes you have to think. On route to 50 you won't get it perfectly right. That don't matter. At 50 most people still have something to learn and thats a good thing.
Open Beta has been open a couple of days to us and just like I see level 50 tanks still with something to learn, I more than expect new banes to be quietly adjusting.
As a bugged Night Widow atm I can do what the hell I like as a player, making whatever mistakes. The only "grave" mistake I can make is "detoggle". Teaming with anyone I have no problems but people teaming with me can easily have but through no fault of mine. I don't play their characters. I don't make their decisions. Sure somehow it'll become my fault they are getting killed but if I am running maneuvers and they aren't, they are making a rod for their own backs.
I don't expect perfect play on villains. I barely expect it. I rather see a pillage through a village with people learning to get and handle their own aggro unless say a Brute or Dominator is about.
One can spend too much time trying to pass an inspiration to people in a team who could of all helped provide themselves and each other with more defense. -
In teams; in the early levels, say pre 24, without any support except from other fellow VEATs, there is nothing wrong....As long as people in the team are stacking maneuvers. When your not scratching each others backs or someones not scratching yours, your weak.
Enough maneuvers stacked can mean turn other defense toggles off as your at the defense cap, save endurance and make as many mistakes as you like.
If everyone had maneuvers and stacked them, whatever fun power they fancied would be fine and however they all played wouldn't matter too much as long as they are close together.
I find it encourages teaming. I think teaming and teamwork is pretty much emphasized in the powersets.
