Goldbrickers and that, wouldn't really be that much of a developed group however Spetsnaz would be a different story.

I find that with fury up, fight duration is lower and then you don't need to sit in mobs for as long as a tank would and on top of that you can be buffed into the tanks level of survivability.

I have a TA/Archery at level 31, is there any reason to keep playing that except for the (Oil Slick/Burning Arrow/Rain of Arrows) combo?
[/ QUOTE ]
You have that combo? I don't have time for it personally.
Groups can die quicker with a TA and you probably won't need all your debuffs down on every group in some teams. The moving out of debuffs bit, are you debuffing early? Sometimes the point at which a TA decides to debuff at is not at the favoured fight point, us Tanks have all gone to move a group from a dangerous ambush point only to find them slowed or whatever.
It doesn't matter what type of defender you are there will be teams who'd play in a way that act against what it is your able to do for them, you can offer them almost no chance of getting hit as a rad but then some scrapper keeps dropping the anchor first like its gonna explode. There are people who don't, can one find them though? They are scarce but there are people who might team with your TA and would not say "and now we need to get a healer". Also be careful on what's noticeable and whats not, too many defenders in the team or controllers can, but for damage cancel each other out for what's needed. You should notice your debuffs more when your the only defender in the team. People will notice your limitations and maybe adapt by learning to make all the right moves in order for you to help them back.
I don't team with people who play in a way that acts against how my powers work or offer nothing to protect me in turn with my very own survivability. I expect team work.
We all have many slots so deleting isn't necessarily worth it so at the very worst you can wait for a player(s) to come along who do play in those ways that makes a TA shine a lot more. I fell back on old time friends who have played with one of my previous defenders. -
[ QUOTE ]
To be honest whoever owns the character should be able to pick what they want without anyone commenting or criticising, maybe giving advice, but if someone has certain powers do not force them to get rid of them because at the end of they day its their character and its their decision.
[/ QUOTE ]
No one can force anyone to do a thing, as it is, if ya not happy with teaming with people cos the dynamics just ain't your idea of fun or some other team does it better then you don't. As a TA if I don't want my butt handed to me a few times in one mission or if I can't drop debuffs without aggro then my teaming with a fixated tank is short lived. Its nice when I play a blaster or controller just to throw it all down and not get into easily avoided positions of personal survival or ineffectiveness, for some it won't be and thats why we all team with different people. -
[ QUOTE ]
If the tank stops my Blaster getting snapped in half, I couldn't give a crab how he's doing it.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is fine, I don't jump team cos of a tauntless tank. I might on a fixated tank. Some fixations are understandable some not. I myself may have to be fixated and have to spare 1,67 seconds to save someone elsewhere and because of that I might of saved the team maybe 10 secs or 3 mins, who knows? -
Back on topic about aggressive players.
March 13TH 2005, my first cavern trial, I worked it out instantly, 7 other members talking over me, all had the right idea apparently, someone got favoured and it failed.
March 25TH 2005, my second cavern trial, I tried to tell people, 7 other members talking over me, all had the right idea apparently, someone got favoured and it failed.
April 4TH 2005, my third cavern trial, I tried to tell people, 7 other members talking over me, all had the right idea apparently, someone got favoured and it failed.
April 9TH 2005, my fourth cavern trial, I tried to tell people, 7 other members talking over me, all had the right idea apparently, someone got favoured and it failed.
April 15TH 2005, my fifth cavern trial, I tried to tell people, 7 other members talking over me, all had the right idea apparently, someone got favoured and it failed.
April 18TH 2005, my sixth cavern trial, I tried to tell people, 7 other members talking over me, all had the right idea apparently, someone got favoured and it failed.
April 25TH 2005, my seventh cavern trial, I tried to tell people, 7 other members talking over me, all had the right idea apparently, someone got favoured and it failed.
I am agressive.
But I was made by n00bs! -
I have never played with cage on an AV. I doubt they can be, unless maybe, with some, the arrows are down and then thats not for long.

A well played ice tank can easily do without taunt, but I will be taking it for use against AVs etc. As for other tanks, I'le leave it to the player. But a well played tank, regardless of them having taunt or not, will be able to do there job.
[/ QUOTE ]
So which AV you going to get it just in time for? Nocturne?
Taunt adds flexibility. I bet I can tank Nocturne with no defenders or controllers in team whether she'd be even level or +3 to me as a scrapper...hmm..yeah..I should have the flexibility..
I gonna have a pop at that today.
When it comes to tanks with stealth, if anyone is that far up their butt when they are running in then there is that, don't be so far up it and if they end up flooring due to your being back 60ft then there is that for them to learn from. I really don't like to see someone who looooves to team with all the powers that pretty much only help them out on whatever toon, but for people who have more of a history soloing, hard to blame them when there is no point getting team powers when you never see a team.
Edit: Due to only seeing mental blast pop 1/4 of a health bar at a time, was alright! Now if I had the whole attack chain, different story. Taunt shows AV flexibility from lvl 15. -
I like the build. I would say that invisibility is of limited importance when you can stack shadow cloaks stealth with superspeeds in pve.
The chance for's ie mag 2 hold or the -7.5% tohit debuff, I can't see the appeal in them on this build and if the unchosen IO recipe or enhancement is cheaper, I'd get that.
Some KB protection somewhere, in a passive would be better. -
Go into Window, Power Graphs, select powers taken and regeneration.
Read health:
Hitpoints regenerated per second at lvl 50: 0.04 hp
Then remove the 3rd health slot and read it:
Hitpoints regenerated per second at lvl 50: 0.04 hp
Its too tiny for an enhancement slot.
I'd End slot acrobatics with it. -
You'd get better answers from people who can copy and paste it in.
-
Its not just a case of multiple groups, it can be based on the size of cones and aoes, numbers effected, the importance of self buffs/other buffs and/or the debuffs, and you can in having something switch from ranged to melee change in the damage type they deal. On a +4 enemy a Invuln may prefer things supertight whilst a Firetank likes it loose.
-
In my detailed info it may say I may say 6.78 taunt for 33,4 secs. This means squat. What does mean something is what I see with my own eyes ie the fact that at times I have aggro for more than 33,4 secs and at times it's less than 33,4 secs. Your far better off working on the basis of observation than worrying about numbers imo its less boring and one should be keeping an eye on things anyway. In some circumstances the more range you have the more taunt you'd want, the less duration you have the more recharge you'd want. I don't taunt slot attacks, damage is a multiplier to it, reduces fight duration, needs to actually hit and I wouldn't wanna run out of end too soon...in fact unless I am end sapped on Shannon I don't get to run out and yes generally tanks tend to get end sapped more so than everyone else in the team.
-
I have seen plenty of tanks without an aura but with taunt, without taunt but with an aura and still teamed with them. As long as I look to find out before rather than after and play to suit its alright as I adapt my play. I may see a lot going wrong as a result of them not having taunt whilst for them it all looks rosy.
I don't know what teams they are usually in or whether or not they've seen a team but the no aura does make me slap forehead but then they maybe a pvp tank. I think its better to level one then pvp it personally but some can't wait for bloody bay.
As a scrapper (all have 6 slotted confront at 50) and as a kheldian (again 6 slots) I have times of suggesting to tauntless tanks to sit down as it was the better thing, they lacked the flexibility to offer the best method for the team mix and it was either sit down or keep getting us team wiped. It can happen but the tool is on offer to all tanks. -
Do another build with whats been said. I have a Damage recieved tab up whilst playing mine, if I don't need an armour on I don't bother with it.
-
[ QUOTE ]
I believe that there are more interesting powers to take instead, I could skip taunt and get an extra passive for defence
[/ QUOTE ]
A passive is more interesting than taunt?
Taunt control isn't simply about numbers ie duration of taunt, range of taunt and the fact that in pve its guaranteed to hit. Its a power that you can use well from knowing even more numbers ie an enemies entire attack chain, travel power, mezz resistance, and what other peoples powersets are and aren't capable off. Far more interesting imo but then I may look at powersets more than I realize. -
[ QUOTE ]
Depends entirely on your build and intentions.
If you've a lot of AoEs and don't plan on fighting things from range, then no you don't need taunt. Holding aggro on much-higher-level AVs is about the only thing that actually requires it. I've experimented with taking Taunt off my INV/SS's power tray... and for virtually all normal team situations my Taunt Aura and Footstomp hold aggro just fine. Taunt's only real use is to pull a far-away mob off a squishy without moving.
[/ QUOTE ]
In melee a taunt aura and footstomp won't always hold aggro just fine. Not every taunt aura is autohit and some taunt auras won't even have a long enough effect. I have been under situations of slow effects, -tohit, -acc, placated, phased, -recharged, end drain etc etc and then there are foes that tp, theres a nice list of things that can happen to different types of tanks and each type of tanker has to learn to cope with what they got or is lucky enough to have certain powersets around them. AVs and multiples of AVs that have legs and travel powers, laugh at puny gauntlet and aura for taunt duration.
Not every tank will be just like playing an Invuln and even invulns can do with taunt at times especially as they can be end drained and unstoppable at the same time.
Getting through the game avoiding extremes, or by being with ftw sets that compensate for ones lackings can be done tho. -
The more damage you do with every attack, the less attacks you have to make and with each and every attack you don't have to make you can save on endurance. I would completely dam out attacks. Acrobatics looks way late. Some of the 3rd slots won't do much for you where they are and would be better elsewhere (especially health). Oppressive gloom, not worth more than an acc generally. 2 acc dark regen or add a heal, (6 slot min it). I'd sooner have hasten than cloak of darkness and have few rechg in attacks for the sake of 1-2 end slots in some attacks.
I don't see every toggle needed to be on at once. -
I can't say I agree. For that level of commitment, taunt is needed and therefore what powers are chosen does matter.
-
You don't have to team with anyone your not happy with.
What a person can and can't do in a game often depends on who is or who isn't around them, and I am talking about players not just sets. By taking taunt your potentially adding flexibility, I say potentially because how good people are or get to be with it varies. Not every trick in the book is on the internet about it, it has been to my dismay somewhat the least looked at.
I'd like to 100% stand by this; ideally, as a tank, any type of, given all the power choices and slotting arrangements available, theoretically, given 1 of each of the main ATs, you shouldn't need to be picky about what power-sets are in team to support you or anyone else for anything in PvE anyone extra for support purposes is a bonus. There should always be a way for you to tank somit given different team mixes, however though, there are some people may look like say a bubbler but in fact be a blaster with nothing much to grant on other people and so despite the mix you may as a team lack the ability of doing something with that bubbler that you wouldn't with another. Also someone with 50 levels of the right powers from a given power set may never of min-maxxed in there life nor got into game mechanics and as such, an attempt to pull tricks can turn into a practice run. Taunt can be used to reduce the fussiness. I prefer people to find things out for themselves on the sort of things that can be pulled off.
I rate tanks on intentions not abilities but then taunt is the most selfless power to take.
