Yeah, I think that'll be closer to a Webmaster, but no point calling oneself that without a webgrenade.

I managed to tank perfectly well with Viking Furnace without taunt, so I'm a little disturbed by this "build snobbery" some people are displaying here. "I won't team with a tank that doesn't have taunt". I prefer not to team with someone that decides on a players worth just by what powers they have.
That said, I did spec into into it a while back, and it does make things a lot easier for me.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was part of a team that helped a tauntless tank hit 50 last night, they weren't as flexible as they could be (never are) but the fact that they just hit 50 tells me they are still starting out.
(Hows that for snobbery?)
Happy Birthday SteelRat. -

Frustrating as it is, it's also TOTALLY normal on DXP weekends. It's ALWAYS like this, due mainly because of the rubbish internet infrastructure at the German datacentre.

And if this is true then no wonder EU servers get so sodding empty. People don't enjoy a frame by frame game. Had loads of it tonight....on Zukunft. Everyones left the game. -
In doing a build I think one power would be missing before the epics and then 2 powers maybe have to be chosen. I take it the keeping of slots would be to be able to change build without a respec.
-
Thats a really good guide to the point of me almost not being able to agree more, the build however has me wondering, for one why is haste 4 slotted?
-
I can see a large group and taunt them to me, only 5 are taunted, the rest are looking for anyone at all, and should anyone act on non taunted foes, they have attention should people wait for a centre up, a footstomp or a knockout blow that "lands" they don't. Thats why sometimes Mr Trigger Happy Fire Cages 2008 takes the alpha for me. His fault, not mine although it may annoy me.
-
A tank can be seen by everything in sight, try to taunt everything in sight and not go over aggro cap.
A tank can run in to a group of 100, aim to get 17 and come back with 17, but lets say 5 members of the team may of refused to wait when asked or didn't make a decision on staying back and got in and got aggro caps of their own. -
I don't see things like that.
You can't always, as hard as you could possibly try, be there for everyone in the team as you can't be in different places at once and as hard as you can possibly try to redirect damage or keep cones, aoes or pbaoes off of people in the last second some squishie jumps into them.
We are all caught by whats game mechanically possible and what isn't, one can't commit to 2 completely different actions at once and as much as you may try to predict what a player will do next, ie take some safer more sensible option, you can't.
The fact that no deaths occurred during an entire Praetorian arc doesn't say great tank, it doesn't say great defender, it just says great team and maybe a little luck was involved, as someone was the meatball, who knows.
I do PuGs, and its not at all like a military operation (yes they may of looked slow and inefficient at the start, as people come to learn them but they can through experience be done at speed later). Once you get to know people you can create military operations and yet from the level of expected security in the team someone pushing ones luck is bound to happen. Around taunt-less tanks some people maybe extra careful and not be so quick to unleash hell or with certain power-sets in the team they can afford to. With power-set proliferation comes sets from the villain side that can afford more anarchy for example teamed today with a tank, I as a /thermal was there with someone who was a cold/ and so buffs were sweet, the need for tight grouping for debuffs and the worrying about runners was less of a concern. Fire Cages unleashed early didn't matter.
A powers level of usefulness changes around different team mixes and players. Being that I do PuGs the team mix versus enemy can be challenging and some means of versatility is useful but for me thats without things leading to an unchallenging shoot fish in a barrel game. -
Thanks so with a possible name change as well the sum total becomes £17,97. That's harsh.
-
Is it possible to move a character from one server to another and in doing so have one less created slot on the left server and one more created slot on the new server for £5,99? Or do I first need to create a slot on the server I want to transfer to, then transfer and have a unwanted available slot on an old server costing £11,98?
-
The weakness of Willpower is comparable to what Invulns used to be like and I was very into getting tight herds, nowadays it run into the main bulk of a group, taunt the furthest, whack anything I needed held and footstomp which ensures my two best gauntlets are down. I think I have a tohit of over 45% an all XD

And I still have 2 taunt slots in it and taunt 6 slotted. -
I tend to look for a journey, I really would despise getting up a TA in teams that played in a way that I couldn't benefit them but an empath does. The first few levels are hard for a TA to bring a lot although there is for me a noticeable difference to what a group can do under debuffs compared to undebuffed. I loved teaming with kinetics, stormies, in fact a TA teamed with another defender should be great really but its not how I wanted to be..feeling like a secondary defender so i waited for the right people to come along whereby I can play and they can play and another defender wouldn't be searched for. TA isn't weak and in bad need for a revamp, it's just people aren't used to one and in their defense some peoples TAs scare me as much as mine (staminaless) might other peoples.
TA doesn't need a revamp. If you consider how often, many people seem to play. They play one way and thats it. Which is pants because what you can get away with being supported by one type of defender may not be what you can get away with doing for another. I look at my TA and think yeah I need to tank like this to get the most from her powers. I doubt I'd be able to tank well for every TA because of how they use their powers ie before aggro is consolidated or whilst mobs are spread but as an Invuln I would say be more than happy to see flash arrow used before I enter. Pull tight so that not only can I effectively end up eluded but you don't get aggro because your aoes can get so big my gauntlet aoes don't quite reach that far and then you lay your debuffs down. With plus perception I tend to try to pull groups away from each other and so the flash arrow would be for its unresistable to hit debuff rather than minus perception.
The fella who was one of my fave tanks for my empath, came to the server with another tank and became one of my fave tanks for my TA and stopping and waiting for him to come along was well worth it for me.
Sorry to keep mentioning tanks but I think they are so much better for TAs to team with especially herding ones. -

The taunt effect is the same, regardless of wether it comes from an aura, Punchvoke, or the Taunt power.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have a quick question then. Why does Willpower's Taunt Aura seem noticably worse than the other auras at holding onto aggro?
[/ QUOTE ]
Its noticeably worse at times. Some auras are better than others depending on what a tanks fighting and the rest of their build as well as use of. At such times team mates are particularly vulnerable to getting aggro. People are often unaware of the full scope of what their powersets can do let alone the limitations of another persons and that adds to becoming vulnerable. -

a - no power in this game is really 'needed'. Even stamina could be done without if you slot for end reduction
b - every team is able to finish every mission if youre use team play and smarts. Some will take ages longer. But you will get there.
c - if you faceplant from attacking... you would have done so alone too. Don't blaim you're team mates for youre mistake... and as suc... don't blaim the tank. Taunt of no taunt.
We are not bound to specific team builds. Time and time again I noticed that in COX its far less important then WOW for instance.
ps. My tanker made 43 now.. without taunt. SS/Inv, and I never missed it. And no team member noticed it missing. If I think it fits the toon concept oir I have a slot free to distribute I will take it, other wise not. I will prob get it on my willp brute later in the higher levels.
All can make their own choices and team members calling me names because of my choices that I made on purpois are just not social or themselves terrible players. In such a way they need a god team to survive.

Did you post that reply to me deliberately and if so for what reason? I don't appear to be last reply or owner post. -
OK, calling someone is a troll is breaking the forum guidelines, as well as calling someone a fool and whether or not the OP is trolling is dubious as the OP may of generally of thought it well worth knowing advice and yes I maybe wrong on the last part.
-
What issues can you see?
I see build up taking as between 14 secs to 40 secs longer for the sake of a little end reduction. You do 80% more damage per end and so save end from using it more often and using less attacks on the enemy. The extra tohit often is also beneficial on entry of some groups or just after tohit debuffing on others. Better to recharge it more to use it more often.
And if you like to be an aggro magnet swamped in foes:
Perhaps for the sake of whats to me, unnoticeable regen (the 3rd heal slot in rooted and health) there is no damage in mudpots and therefore 83% less damage to 10 foes at a time. That means your fight duration isn't as low as it could be. The amount of attack chains needed to defeat an entire group is therefore higher. Put it this way, I think over 10 secs you might with 2 dam IOs be able to do 69 damage to 10 foes for the cost of 4,3 endurance or a total of 690 damage and then some due to fury and/or build up to a group for the cost of 4,3 endurance.
Outside of granite extra run speed can reduce the need to teleport the shortest of distances. The 3rd resistance in stoneskin is like adding 0.35% defense to a defense power. is it really worth a slot? Or could you do better to run that extra 3ft per sec faster when rooted?
I don't think I have this type of brute I am just looking at numbers. I do have the powersets though. -
As a villain I am all for the do what the hell you like, screw everyone else, idea.
-
I would call putting a entity out of action, unable to attack and unable to be attacked as buying time for dropping the towers, yes.
I don't have it on a Sonic/Sonic Corrupter as I don't need it personally and people would only moan XD -
It adds flexibility thats all anyone needs to know. I don't think it actually ever takes anything away in terms of doing the game content. People are entitled to their concepts however, I like to break other peoples laws so to speak on other toons.
What this thread is about saying is merely generally one can be better off with than without. Whether one does thru finding out how or thru being offered the right team dynamics thru the help of other people is another matter.
We all choose who we want to play with. I've teamed with tauntless tanks, I see goings on, thinks don't necessarily turn out bad and when it doesn't whether we have taunt or not we still owe things going right to the whole of the team but when it comes to pulling the steepest of challenges off (differs for each type) with the most limited of teams thats when you "might" find the flexibilities. -

.....that's helpful.....
And shouldn't this be in the guides section?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, and its speculation.
Whilst filling, one may miss the only genuine team invite available also with lower levels it can be a bit of a [censored] this if they were to only ever see fill pls requests by selfish [censored] who have only their own interests at heart. I personally think anyone solo in WW maybe good game to fill and one should start by asking the higher levels first no matter what.
This may get locked soon. -
What annoys me is the being asked for information when the information is there in what they sent me. Time and date? Duh..try looking at the time I petitioned. Character name? Duh..try looking at the character I sent the message on. Server? Yes thats a couple of lines down from the character name.
Info is there. Its not likely I'd be petitioning from another character.
One may think its all automated or some people just think "pass message 101 on and maybe someone else will get the job of sorting it out.."
Ideally in the in game petition thing you'd be able to write everything down but they give you such a small box to write in. -

One of my favourite tricks on the STF is to permacage the flier so it can't attack or drop mobs.
[/ QUOTE ]
Does it then pass by? Or is it for such a short time it just buys time? -
Intentions aren't as straight forward in either, what confuses me most are things like the single performance shifter end mod giving off a 38.6% enh when a single basic end mod IO would do for the same 38.6% and then in stamina there is a performance shifter chance for +end on its own that could do with that performance shifter end mod in its power as well.
The 3rd end mod in stamina is a complete waste as it gives you an extra 1/10th of an end point per sec to a blaster that can give itself enough endurance overtime to run several characters. All the chance for +ends, quite expensive and not necessarily needed. Anything that +regen with a blasters hitpoints I am also skeptical of, going for +hitpoints is +regen at the same time and so I would sooner that although if I had Aid Self I'd chase something else in a set.
The single on its own chance for +end in thunderous blast has got to go. -
I find I spend more time playing a character at 50 than getting there, the leveling part is just a journey, hopefully in a VEATs case a teamed one if thats what one wants because that is theoretically the better way.
