Quote:People are entitled to a pacifistic toon come hero in my eyes and it's upto the people around them (that they come in play with) to be satisifed or unsatisfied with them as a team mate. Some players need their own personal healbot so you'll never be short of some mates no matter what route you take.I have an 18 rad/pain corruptor. Only have 1 offensive power that is unslotted and not even on the power bar. Everything else is in the heals. This way the team does more DPS, then if I were to cast blasts. The TEAM does more DPS because they are alive.
I find teams where you can't squeeze a shot off, albeit AoEs, Debuffs or Controls alarming. I have characters that do have to react fast, that fast that, should I be locked into the cast time a clearmind buff I'd be too late. The damage I'd deal would not be worth the loss of someones character and I proactively buff, other players liking fun and go extra nuts. My vigilance (could be choosing not to blast incase) is to support their fun. Some people are happy doing that all the time. I am not.
To me not having time to squeeze attacks out is often down to being in a team that is a mess. Team dynamically clueless. Given the strength of your buffs and the flexibility of support people may feel that they can go nuts. You may get a sense that they're enjoying themselves and so enjoy your character for it. That maybe where your enthusiasm comes from.
Teams could be good enough to cope with the support of any single defender balanced by their primary and secondary but we know that's not always true. Whether or not you enjoy the fact that other players can be manic with you is down to you and in those teams you can well be offering a lot cos as eggs is eggs the moment you went to blast something someone gets mullered.
Other people can afford to attack with their defenders because the other players either have solid builds or a more solid team dynamic that doesn't compromise eachother badly. Some people will attack expecting other players to not need them that badly.
I am a big believer in concepts and no cookie cutting. I like to see certain powers on defenders. When I don't see them it's not always the end of the world. It is when a defender has powers and I don't see them in use then the end of the world is nigh!(actually rockin the aura does my head in).
You weren't chucking a blast in within the first few secs of the teams fight duration was you? Because that's when it is most likely that not everything would be controlled. -
In a team of people where everyone is (to them) doing their job someone often pipes up "good heals". It's probably in the Tanks humour to commend everyone else for a change.

I'd love to go as far as swapping builds and say go from having a Regen secondary to a Invuln secondary, yet perhaps keep the primary set...
How many of us after making a Broadsword Regen would make a Broadsword Invuln sometime anyway? Are some secondaries better suited to PvP or not? You can go from the best PvE build of choice to PvP build of slightly better choice no?
Some option like that shouldn't be easy to obtain in some peoples eyes and something like that may to some people "hurt the game". I don't know. As long as the primaries are the same it's difficult to suggest that a character had to be learnt. I know that when inviting a defender, I am interested in them for their primary and with only an option to change the secondary you can't argue that someone wouldn't really know their toon would you?
Coupled with the unlikely idea of anyone who makes a Broadsword/X is very likely to go off and make a Broadsword/Y straight after. I doubt there is much money loss in changing a secondary.
I could be wrong but it is certainly something I would be interested in with my Broadsword character. -
Quote:You've been a bit OTT. Calm down. Walk away.We already know it won't be you, because people like you, who believe defenders are buff bots and "healers", who think they've discovered something new five years after everyone else figured it out, who state that it's impossible to fight purple-con foes without a "healer", don't achieve the impossible. People like you don't even hit average. People like you set your standards so low that what you consider "impossible" is the daily routine for everyone else.
Get over yourself, snowflake.
Has nothing to do with ownership.
Has everything to do with understanding the game, the AT and that defenders are capable of doing more than kissing boo-boos and guarding the front door. -
Quote:It's not fair to assume that new players are complete idiots and that one persons ideas work for all. This is simply not true. It's from failing to answer those questions that we can see that you need to have everything handed to you on a plate and are a complete idiot. When new people join this game and ask a general question about an AT or a build, and the replies are like this...... 1)"Be more specific", 2)"What are you looking for", 3)"We need more information about your play style"....
1) How specific to people expect a NEW player to be about an AT they know nothing about?
2) Do "experienced" players REALLY expect a NEW player to know if they need more recharge as opposed to more damage or accuracy or if they need more resist than def?
3) I doubt the NEW players even have a playstyle to say if they prefer to solo or team, mish or farm, rather play a tank or troller if they haven't played every AT available.
I seen a post by someone with 12 posts and just joined this month ask for a list of powers he should choose or skip for a Fire/Dark Corruptor. Now as exp. players, we know about which powers may be better picked than others. Instead of seeing this is a new player and giving some GENERAL info, he gets replies like the ones above. I mean, really?
That's all. Flame, reply, give your thoughts if ya wanna. -
Quote:With accolades you have 2.21 recovery and a end drain of 0.71 which is imo not good. But you can RA with approx 70sec down time. 2.21-0.71 = 1.5Hello folks,
I am exploring stamina-less team builds for my Empath[/code]
For 70secs you may not want to have a buff/attack chain that averages more than 1.5eps over that time. Taking into account RA is 26 end I am thinking ouch.
Also in melee you can be subject to AoE controls as well as AoE damage. In fact you could be the only one in need of healing as a result in some teams or even incapacitated from being held without a BF.
I am not saying it won't work out but I would be wary. -
Quote:Your end rec - end drain of attack chain + toggles = scare meBoth are soft-capped and both have perma-hasten.
Any and all thoughts are appreciated. Thx.
I like the passives, it's extra def, that's cheap, no end cost there, some def debuff resistance and resistance to all typed damage.
I'd have one build with fight pool and one build with med pool (they do different things these builds) but always with passives. -

I take it this is a farming build. So you should of worked out your attack chains. Worked out how much end per second the attack chains average at before adding the end drain per sec of all your toggles. Add the average end recovery/sec of consume to your base end recovery plus stamina (include any +end related accolade bonuses) and come up with a total end recovery that is higher than end drain. It's nice with a farming build to keep going flat out between consumes (more so if your a congaliner).
Quicksand, I'd forget bonuses and go rechg/slows possibly dam proc (-rechg procs aren't a lot of use if the npc it hits is defeated in the next 5 secs). I'd probably look at rechg, rechg, slow or rechg, slow, slow affording 3 slots like you have. Remember wherever you Burn you may want quicksand available.
Consume looks underfunded, slots from health could provide better bonuses and utility by going into consume. If something is heavy in slot take up then its better to fit it in earlier leaving the powers low in slot take up to the end if possible and I think its possible.
One of the build suggestions basically went for no defense, another went for melee defense (most mobs would have to be in melee) and you've gone for a little of each position around 15% mark. What's right is probably down to who your trying to farm + possibly insp tray. -
I didn't think a consistent perma PA was achievable and quite frankly its perma PA or bust. If you can't get it you may as well not gimp some part of the build getting it. The build cost is too extreme trying. I had in my head an 8 sec shortfall not being as overly expensive as you and if you are going to fall short then you may as well fall short by more, having the build right. There should always be atleast a couple of alternative ideas to count on when perma is required, so perma isn't the be all and end all for anyone.
-
Or their builds being cookie cuttered. I think it is better if people attempt something then recieve pointers. Sometimes you can gain a certain way to start thinking that you may otherwise wouldn't off which will help you to do other builds. My Elec/Elec suffers in the early levels to come home later. That could not be other peoples cup of tea. Simply best to choose the powers yourself and when, then get ideas on slotting from other people with maybe a couple of power suggestions.

Quote:A Scrapper can be used in place of a Tanker. In fact if a Tanker is "needed" then I don't think there is anyone who knows what they're talking about. If a Kin is "needed" then whoever "needs" a Kin don't know any alternative methods and Rads should never be a necessity. You'll often hear "man we need a rad for this ITF!" or "we need a kin and a tank for this STF!" but rarely you will hear "man we can't start this without a scrapper!" from anyone who knows what they're talking about
On topic, you really have to pick a primary and secondary that you are most likely to be rubbish at and then build poorly. -
That's not quite the same as the first post. /SS will give you something favoured in PvP but in PvE the Smash damage type could be the most commonly resisted. So Shield/SS/Pyre then.

Great time, our times are longer but clearly we differ as we can rule out temp powers. I think the real challenge lies in an Mo.

I liked the guide. It may not have numbers like some peoples guides but it had another quality many of those peoples guides lacked. I like to think that you don't need to know the numbers to pull things off (simply get the gist and make it through the game) but they do help. I do Thugs/TA and Ninja/TA MMs so had to come to read this and it was a pleasure to read really.

Once I have used the search function to find a defender for the team it's nice if something of a defender shows up so none of us feel conned.
It's upto the player what they want from their character and I am sure if those players cared to know what most other people thought then they wouldn't already have only 2 primary powers, several blasts, flurry, jump kick and whirlwind .
Not paying for their account I don't have a say.
The blasts are more important to those who find themselves on all supporter teams than to those who find themselves on all offense teams.
Someones character could of been built to work well with all the players they had been with up until they joined the team I am on and yet their build could be all wrong to the norm. Should they be expected to change it because it isn't popular? Should I share with them an opinion?
If someone wants a true medic, a modern day combat medic that more than satisfies the rules of the Geneva Convention as best possible in this game they should have one. If they want to blast but do little support then they should have one without my opinions. If I want to remember their names for any reason, like "omg we got conned" and choose someone else next time a defender is preferable then I will. -

Have you worked out how you would achieve Perma PA on a Ill/Emp?
-
I'd probably be stretching things hoping for perma PA on a Ill/thermal.
-
There should be no embarassment to making a build, posting it and having people look at it and it is better for someone to create and change a build for themselves. You learn better in a way that it helps to produce other builds. Plus many people like something to look at.

Taking the pet aspect into account I would expect the placement to matter with Tactics. If you are not within 60ft of a pet then the pet wouldn't be buffed. Rain of Arrows has a range of 90ft and so the placement could be easily outside of Tactics range.
Edit: Using Assault to test as its Activation Interval and Duration of buff doesn't differ to Tactics and because the effects are more notice able I found what I say to be true in the case of summoning Oil Slick but not true in the case of Rain of Arrows. Rain of Arrows with the TA buffed with Assault consistently showed increased damage on targets 90ft away. This means I can't quite see how Tactics fails. Tactics is more than +To Hit however and so should be also looked at for more than its +To Hit.
