Welcome, if you need a hand villainside on Infinity or heroside on Pinnacle or Champion /t @Neuronia and I'll be glad to help out.

Glad you are having fun. -
Casual player probably logs in a few hours a week, does some missions/tweaks their costumes without worrying much about the various metagames involved.
-
Welcome back, take time to hang with some vet players and forum gudes for all you need, information wise.
-
Neuro also needs this.
Someone global me so I can help out. -
I'd rather team with people I know than strangers.
Of course, I run ITF "pugs" most of the time but I try to have a Cold and a bunch of damage dealers on any ITF I run.
It's the player for sure.
If I get on a team with Oz and Crackback and a few others I know we'll breeze crap and I can afk half the time and the missions will finish themselves.
In some of my other SGs...there are people I know can do the job and others that will do the job...less well, let's just say. Those people usually get the last spot on anything I form.
You just need people that aren't idjuts and can follow simple instructions and can play their damned toons. Geez, I was on an ITF last night on another server and the Ninja/Dark MM with 48 months ingame never used debuffs, HT, or anything useful and quit after levelling...
Oh, and never team with Bronx, guy just afks at the Market half the time (and still manages to solo the SFs, true story). -
Quote:Yeah, to a degree. Not true on the live servers. On Test, yes, but then you have access to duping, unless you are venturing into test with no SG support.
On live though, I know of several competitive PvP'ers who have created toons with ONLY SO builds, solely to prove you can still be competitive without IO's. IO's help, but skill is more important than loot.
You just have to look at the kickballs and leagues though. Defenders/Controllers with 1,031 hp will get farmed and die, over and over. Same thing in zones. They might phase/Hiber etc but they'll be the target. Meanwhile, the toons with 1,550 - 1601 HP with 40% more Regen, 40% more recharge etc will have an edge.
I'm not disagreeing with your premise, I know Max and several others used SO builds quite well, but you're just putting yourself at a needless disadvantage by not kitting out as well as you can. :/ -
When I started so long ago, even I found the long haul to the Hollows annoying after the third time.
It was annoying hauling booty to a waypoint miles away from Wincott, tripping over Pumicites and then having half the group quit out.
I was very grateful when someone told me I could skip the whole thing and just move on to Kings Row.
These days, I just PL to 20-26 and do the Striga stuff for the temp powers, or do Faultline/Cap au Diable arcs as they're relatively interesting and offer cool temp powers.
Though it was fun rolling a Mind/Cold and teaming up to level 4-6 on Issue 16 launch, I haven't touched her since because I've done the low-level grind heroside.
AE is the best thing to hit this game, farm nerfs notwithstanding. I like having different lowbie stuff to do.
It would be a great boon if the Devs could look at lowbie hero content. If anything, GR might offer an alternate path to 1-50 that would make it more fun to experience the grind.
Don't get me wrong, I love the game but after 4.5 years I just want to hit 50, Acco out, IO out and test my builds in all sorts of situations.
(Edit: I just saw Mod08's reply and he's spot on. I farm because I love diving into massive amounts of mobs and firing off attacks and seeing the long list of defeated mobs, rewards and so on in my "Drops" tab. I love CoH for this. Not being able to take on 3-4 even level mobs in WoW at level 6 was a MASSIVE TURN-OFF. I *should* be able to take 3-4 even cons!) -

Oh no, someone is enjoying the game in their own niche!
*ALARM! ALARM!*
*This is a broadacast of the Emergency Kontent System. You have not used Kontent in a way approved by the Kontent Kops. Proceed to do your starting contact's arcs on Heroic, with no divergence or options! Failure to read their clues will result in mocking by self-important eggheads!*
+Repped for keeping the farming spirit alive! -

Bad Influence is endlessly amusing and shrill.
To state that this is a conspiracy, where even the most casual players noticed a change, is slightly unfair.
Do 'under the hood' changes happen? Sure they do.
But generally, all changes are announced through patch notes, good or bad.
Put it this way: The Devs knew that the new mission settings would be great for farmers; they likely didn't see (or didn't think it was important enough) that the -1 could affect TF and Master runs (unintended consequence). They fixed the drop rate (soon) and the -1 issue.
Now, it seems your premise to start was that the invisible JoJo Vendor Cartel (JVC for short, kidding around
) was manipulating all those purple prices so you couldn't obtain them. Obviously the Devs knew about this and patted themselves on the back about it.
All this ignores that, instead of reacting as a stung harridan, you could have helped us all in checking drop rates, offering feedback and being....useful?
Sadly, your inner rage and needless sense of victimization are doing you a disfavour in these fora. Please, try and make your experience, and ours, a better one. -
Quote:This is a great post, but you 100% need purples/PvPIOs if you're serious about PvP. An SOd character lacks the benefits and buffs a fully Accod/IOd character has. There's orders of magnitudes of difference between my SO Ill/Emp and my fully purpled PvP IO/d Ill/Emp.
SECOND MOST IMPORTANT, purples are not needed. People played the game before purples. Characters loaded with just SOs can usually take on 3 even con minions, unless they made some bad choices when picking powers and slotting. No content is limited to chars with purple IO sets. I've never seen anyone require purples for a team, or even set IOs. Granted purples make the game easier. Purples make it possible to do some silly hard things, like solo AVs, or Rikti Pylons, or massive spawns of high level mobs. But the Devs DO NOT want everyone doing that, so purples will NEVER be easy to obtain.
t.
Also, if more difficult content is down the pipe, purples may be necessary to overcome them.
That small quibble aside, valid and well-stated points. -
Quote:Yeah, I got Master STF. ITF and Kahn TF on my Emp at -1 and it was lame as hell. Slow, plodding, no challenge at all. Considering I've emped a zillion Master runs, this felt like a boring grind.I was madder about people crowing how they got "Master" badges on the -1 setting.
I disagree with disabling the + settings. Turf the - setting for TFs and then set AVs as you wish. Don't remove our ability to crank up the TF mobs. -
Arcanaville.
In a giant robot with laser beams.
And fire.
"I equate you with failure, EX-TER-MI-NATE!"
"Your power choices do not add up, EX-TER-MI-NATE!"
"This is a numbers game and you come out 0, EX-TER-MI-NATE!"
And she'd spawn random mobs dependant on zones...rain o' Mitos anyone?
-
It's possible that they rolled a new character, did the initial contact missions then hit the newspaper route. In that case, they would have missed the Midnighter Arc, Faultline, the PvP zones and so on.
To be fair. the game 'starts' at two points, level 20 and level 35. At level 35 you get your Vanguard Merits and you can participate in ITF. Those are both great zones.
Villainside, stuff starts getting fun in the mid-20s.
The author does repeat a common lament of people I introduce the game to:
"What is there to do? It's just going in doors all the time and so on. Where are the interesting wilderness quests?"
-
Well, the fact is the game is a series of instanced missions, which can get repetitive quickly.
It's a shame they never got higher though, they missed the Rikti War Zone, Cimerora, Hamidon Raids, STF/LRSF, etc etc.
AE throws a wrench in the mix though, with new content, mobs and placements. -
I was doing Ouroboros arcs a while back for the badges on my namesake; one of the preferred arcs was the "Revenant Hero Project" by Gordon Stacy.
In the middle of the arc, he has you see Jake Montoya and deliver a CD to someone else in the middle of the zone, then GO BACK to the other person.
While this wouldn't be so bad, it's annoying with the "No Travel Powers" enabled, fair enough.
In general, there are too many deliveries throughout the game:
Ding 15 or so?
Go see the BLoody Bay liaison
Go see Jimmy in Faultline
Let's not forget the intro to the Hero Corps person (fair enough, important feature.)
What they should do with the PvP contacts is simply add a little window blurb:
"You're now powerful enough to gain access to Bloody Bay. This is a PvP zone so you WILL be attacked by other players. There are items of interest there such as Shivan Shards, stealth temporary powers, etc!"
Because it's awesome getting a Brickstown contact and getting sent to Kings Row for a Warburg delivery then back to Brickstown for another delivery for... -
Quote:I hear you BI.First, I have no real idea if they're lying or not. But if so, I wouldnt call this a malicious lie, but a "we've got to try to at least maintain the status quo" sort of lie.
Here's the foundation problem: we have read flaming thread after flaming thread where skilled players here have, with much chest-beating proclaimed "YOU, the scuzzy UNWASHED MASSES! Do NOT need purples. I know you THINK you do, but you DON'T. Rare recipes are the EXCLUSIVE PRESERVE of the ELITE GAMER otherwise known as ME AND MY FRIENDS. I have eleventy-billion Influence and I can buy whatever I want! Mwa-hahahaha, I can buy everything SO NO PROBLEM EXISTS, and meanwhile YOU can live without mah l00t, YOU don't need it so STOP WHINING ALREADY! ALL L00T IS MIIIIIIINEEE!!!"
All protestations to the contrary are "whining." Wait for it.
The problem with this is, people *do* want rare recipes. Frustrate them enough in this endeavor and face the consequences. In a game-world where a purple recipe can easily cost 150 million and up these days, most players are not able to fit themselves out as they wish. Hell, these days it does not have to be a purple to cost that much! Far from it.
My Warshade on Triumph, The Casual Gamer, has just started the "Your Markettears they are delicious" SG. Our motto is "It's not supply and demand, it's EBIL MARKETTEERS driving up the prices!"
I'll likely never get a purple. Surely with my already 20 Merits at level 20, just from running Kheldian and other arcs, a long life of poverty awaits me.
Heck, no one has bought that Volume of the Obisidian Libram I've listed for 2,609...but I struggle by daily. =(
I'll fight the Market though! I'll list low and charge low and I'll not make money! =(
In all seriousness, we don't know what's going on with the drop rates etc. The Devs aren't stupid and they know people are going to AION and CO. The last thing they want is to annoy more people...so this is likely a bug. -
Quote:Haha, this reminds me of my friend Nyrana on Pinnacle, who has the same build.
Fire/Fire Blaster is my chaos maker. I enjoy using Rise of the Pheonix offensively.
She'll just rush in, Infero then die and ROTP. It's a running joke when I'm on my Emp I'll chase her around and AB/HO/AP her until she gets annoyed and just dies for kicks.
Great fun, those Blasters.
-
Welcome!
Quote:Sweet. Pinnacle is a low-pop server but you can certainly find teams. Heck, last night I was on a heroside team with 7 new players (!).Uh, no, I never mentioned the server we were playing on. I just asked my girlfriend which server name she liked and we ended up on Pinnacle. I'm playing a Energy/Dark corrupter, and she is playing a mind control/earth dominator. We just hit level 5 and 6 respectively last night. My first toon was a robot/pain mastermind, but I didn't feel like learning all the pets commands and such (too much like my lock in WoW) I'm having a blast (no pun intended) with my corrupter though. Was this a bad choice for server? Should we turn back? Re-roll before its too late?
Try joining global channel /chanjoin Cozmic's Playground for more teaming opportunities. Redside has a good number of people around as well. I have a few vill alts on Pinnacle and lots of hero alts and would be glad to help out.
Just send me a tell /t @Neuronia when ingame.
All the servers are fine; if you really want a populous experience try Freedom, Virtue, Infinity. For more 'relaxed' experiences Pinnacle, Champion, Justice, Triumph, VIctory...all the other servers have their own manias and quirks.

It is pretty rough for trial players.
I bumped into one in Atlas Park while doing a delivery for a Manticore TF.
He was talking in Local all the time, then explained if he got to level 14 his dad would get him full account.
Couldn't really invite him to a team but did point him to Steel Canyon (I keep getting debt, it's so annoying!) and tried to give him some inf but the 50,000 limit kicked in heh.
I would reply to tells, but not tells themselves. Or at least a "Trial" tag for searches...just anythig to make communication easier. :/
