Moonfire TF, first mission is all Warwolves second is all Vampyri, or vice-versa.

Kat, it wasn't meant to ruffle as you know I have no issues with you or PvPEC!

I said that because I thought we needed to be PvPEC sponsored to get baubles and so on. Sorry there was a misunderstanding!
Rei: Agreed, looking forward to the pretty Mental Blasts flying around for the next three months.

Quote:No.I think any map should be used, possibly set to random so people can't try to gain an advantage.
Besides, it's not WHERE you fight....it's WHO.
I guess I should elaborate.
If you are on a melee toon without Fossilize or Hurl Boulder (say a Katana or Claws or Dark Melee Scrapper) on Altas vs. a Psy or Fire or Sonic Blaster or a Corr, life will be much harder for you.
If this is going to be a duel league with TS and HD off, you're already writing off most melee builds outside maybe Stalkers or /Regen Scrappers or Tankers with range. I haven't got a lot of duelling experience on my belt, but as far as I know the preferred maps are Perez Park, Cargo Ship, Office and Tech Lab. Open maps like Eden are laughable and give a huge advantage to Stalkers (who can just lie at Stealth Cap and pop a few reds then AS or Thunderstrike), range builds with Boost Range, etc. Atlas, Skyway and Steel aren't TOO bad because there are places you can pin people with webnades (the pools in Atlas near the statue, Skyway has the recessed areas with stairs and Steel has corners and such.
On top of all that, the matches are set to...20 minutes, 12 minutes and 10 So you can feasibly just hit Invis for a good portion of the match and just engage at the 10 minute mark or whenever you are ready. Speaking from experience (though I am lolbad) insp loads work best in 10-15 minute tiers, at 30 minutes you have to be more sparing BUT you get the advantage of more Phase/Hiber recharge. Even at the lower tiers with less powers, people slotted with runspeeds/flightspeeds will have a bit more of an advantage.
TLDR:
It's not just about player skill, it's about what ATs are viable as well. Since this is a DUEL Championship, the event orgs should make the event as viable as possible to as many toons/ATs as possible. My suggestions:
Perez Park
Office
Cargo Ship
Tech Lab
Monkey Cage (yeah, yeah, I know...)
Atlas or Skyway or Steel or Outbreak
No Eden for duels thanks.

Oh, the joys of leapfrogging hehehe.
That aside, here are some concerns:
Length of Season:
With summer approaching, we might not want to have a long season. In a ladder, the games pretty much take care of themselves so that shouldn't be much of an issue. As much as I've had a love-hate with the current D8/D6 league, it's just too drawn out. After we've done our...8 or 10 week season we'll have another two to three weeks of playoffs? More than that if we need to do a home and home for each playoff series? So that's around 15-16 weeks...that's a crazy amount of time to commit to PvP with patios opening, BBQs getting dusted off and whatnot.
Prizes:
Of course, you need a reason to play. We're not going to get prizes from PvPEC if they're not involved, but I'm sure we could gather enough inf/stuff to make it worthwhile for people if they wanted them. I remember the old ladder gave titles at the end/start of every month to the top team? We won't get the titles but maybe an inf purse or something, or just Merit rolls
shouldn't be too hard to get.
Structure:
So if we do a ladder, we'll need to have a ranking tourney. Easy enough. Then you'll need to do a challenge system. The old ladder let you challenge two rungs above and below and worked fairly well, though it was pretty funny when OS challenged the entire ladder when things died down.
We probably want to avoid having teams challenging each other over and over only to leapfrog endlessly. Perhaps setting a delay on a challenge to another team would be nice.
Line-ups:
Going to need some policy on having teams loaded in on time and present as well has a "once you're in, you're in" to prevent DCs and replacements by something else because your opponent brought something. Additionally, there should be some discussion on whether certain ATs/Powersets should be limited...
External factors:
Would be nice to have a break after the current D8 thing is done, it's gone on a long time.
Power changes or any PvP changes coming with Going Rogue might impact line-ups. -
Quote:I haven't even done that with my new project the Warshade.
You have people that don't do anything but sit in WW flipping recipes or buying stuff up just to inflate the market. This section of the forums is mainly just to beat people down that don't want to participate in their way of thinking. If you want to post in here and not get flamed, just post a pic of the billions you've made or ask them how to make uber inf so they can say, "find a niche" or "learn to flip" and make them feel special. lol.
I started her without transferring any inf or borrowing any inf. I sold my inspirations, sold my salvage drops and crafted and sold my recipe drops, cashing in Merits at level 20. She's now on close to 25 million, craziness.
No flipping, no tricks. Just playing the game I got an occasional piece of rare salvage which sold for several million. I got recipes which I crafted and sold for 5-7 million each.
It really isn't that hard, there isn't any Black Magic involved. Remember, I set myself to play that character 1-3 hours max a week, doing story arcs and pugs. I spent a good portion of the late teens to early 20s in Hollows on Pugs...and I still managed to make enough to SO out with cash to spare.
OP, if you think the prices on Karmas are high, why not run some AE and cash in your tickets on Bronze rolls? You might get your Karma and will get some other recipes you can probably craft and sell for influence.
-
Those prices are pretty cheap, to be honest. Just sell everything you ever get on the market and you'll afford 75 mil in no time.
-
We got 31 kills and a Glad Armor End/Res

Quote:I'm puzzled here.(For the record, I play almost exclusively on Pinnacle, getting those badges in active PvP with other PvPers is nearly impossible there)
.
Pinnacle RV is virtually dead most of the time unless XFunk, myself or maybe one or two people are kicking around. And it's not that hard, assuming you have a quick movement power like Superspeed or Super Leap, to just hop to your next explore badge and move on. Heck, I got all of them the other night on my Corruptor with nary a hassle (Two Blasters were around and a Scrapper, there was PvP and no one was upset about it).
Now, if you're working on something more laborious like pillboxes or the heavies, that might solicit some attention. Even then you can usually /hide from searches and get it done. Even so, I've found most people on Pinnacle are pretty cooperative about getting explores if you tell them.
Wow that was a long tangent.
Anyway, I guess the point is...if you want to run the AVs in RV, good luck on a populated server unless you can somehow get the PvPers to cooperate with it. On lower pop servers, you can usually get the AVs done without much trouble and some SGs will actually help out.
It really is "play at your own risk" though. -

Quote:The closest thing we got to this was Lighthouse saying the changes weren't aimed at high end pvpers and Ghost Falcon saying under the old system a casual group could never beat a high end group from test.I didn't ask you for your own opinionated boring conjecture. I asked you for a dev quote backing up when you said...
Are you able to provide a quote from any developer to back this up?
If not then kindly shut up.

Add to that Posi and Castle stating the limited amount of ATs being viable was an issue, as well as buffs/heals and that's the gist of it. It may not have been said implicitly, but the idea is there.
Dahjee is still pretty much offtrack on everything though. -
Quote:You started in Galaxy, which is a 'dead zone' starting out.So i just bought the architect version from steam, installed and patched, and am playing the champion server.
I finished the tutorial and went straight to galaxy city, but i can't seem to find/see ANY fellow players at all, is this supposed to be? If so, how do i get out/find other players.
If not, is there a fix? Did i do something wrong?
Start in Atlas and you'll see more people.
Also, /t @Cobalt Azurean for an invite to the global teaming channel, BMT of Champion...lots of teaming through there/ -
Quote:Perhaps that is too low then. I understand the need for it to be an achievement or work of some kind, we shouldn't be handed everything on a platter of course. To me though, I just want my base off the ground so I can go about my business. Not having teleporters slows down my travel and not having enhancement tables impedes, well not impedes but slows...my character progression and potential marketing by having 100 less enhancement storage.Neuronia: 10 inf -> 1 prestige? Seriously?
A fully functional SG base (that's one got teleporters to EVERYWHERE blueside) is somewhere in the 5-10 million prestige range.
You get around 5-10 million inf for a single ITF, don't you? I haven't checked lately.
You're asking for ONE player to be able to buy the prestige for an entire base in ONE day, playing ordinary content on teams.
Even the most aggressive basebuilders only tend to ask for 50:1, 100:1 or 150:1 (based on this thread.
The inf isn't an issue, to be fair. Once I17 arrives I can dump a bunch on my Warshade and get my base. I don't want to do that because I'm acting as if this character does everything from the ground up, maybe with a friend in the group too. Since I run solo, it will take me some time to get the 95,000 prestige for a table, 50,0000 for a Workshop and so on. It'll likely cost around 200,000 - 250,000 prestige for a decent startup. If the Prestige conversion rate was lower, I'd use it a heck of a lot more, heck I'd use it period.
This makes a great deal of sense and I thank you for your post. 200 inf per prestige sounds good to me. I wouldn't mind some kind of Prestige vendor though, or even the ability to use Influence/Infamy instead of prestige to buy base items....50,000 x 200 = 10,000,000 to get my Workshop seems a lot quicker and manageable than the other way. Of course, it goes back to how much Devs want each player to have personal housing and storage...Quote:
If the conversion rate was 10 to 1 level 50s would be encouraged to run out of SG mode. In SG mode at level 50 one would gain 3198 Inf and 16 Prestige for a PPD Awakened. Out of SG mode at 10 to 1 at level 50 one would gain 6396 Inf. Converting half of that at via 10 to 1 grants --> 3198 / 10 = 320 Prestige. 320 Prestige is much more than 16 prestige.
Thus, the break-even point is somewhere around 200 Inf per prestige at level 50. The current rate is 500 Inf per prestige. Any numbers below 200 would mean SG mode is a bad idea to turn on. Some margin should probably be utilized as well. -
RMTers DO sell purples and stuff like that but they are not what is causing inflation, if that's what you want to call it. Essentially, once you hit 50 you make tons of money and have little to spend it on outside IOs. So...you don't blink at dropping 150 mil for a purple. Heck, I've done that several times over the past days for purples I'll probably never use (Well...I'll save it for a rainy day and maybe...) or might use sparingly.
Give us more outlets for our inf and we will have less inf to spend on the Market/offmarket.
1 for 1 Inf to Prestige transaction, or at least 10 to 1. What is it now, 1,000 to 1 or something ridiculous? My Warshde, the Casual Player on Triumph, has started the base for "Your Markettears, they are delicious" SG. She has a bunch of inf but what she needs is prestige. I don't want to drop 80 million inf for about 800,000 prestige, seems like a huge rip-off to me. I'll end up padding with more and more alts to get the prestige bump then get my stuff.
Even outside that, how much would people pay for:
A nuke of your choice.
A Shivan.
Any of a number of temp powers, perhaps one or two use such as the Warwolf Whistle, Nemesis Staff (put a timer on this instead of a use limit).
Yes, yes the real world is different but...when I get my cheque I pay for my necessities (not a 'reality' in CoH) and then I have 'mad money' for frivolous things. In CoH, the 'mad money' ends up going to purples. Since AE and selling drops makes inf change hands or arrive into the game at an alarming rate, you would hope the Devs are paying attention and will give us more spending options.
In-game inf exchanges would be nice, equal amount of prestige for inf would be great. -
City of Villains and its arcs is a great place to play. At every level band you have nicely-written stories that are engaging and fun to play.
Where it breaks down is the Patrons. I'll start a new character and then get to 40 and...I have to turn off xp so that I can complete a story arc to get powers. Then I ask myself...why don't I go blueside and just get my powers for free? Outside of these concerns, the Merit rewards are just bleh redside.
Other issues:
- The 10-15 blueside TF, Positron, currently gives 66 Merits. That may change with the new iteration, who knows.
- The lowbie TF, Tarikoss, gives 19.
- No 30-34 SF.
- Overcommitment of foes such as Longbow and Arachnos. Blueside, you fight several different mobs throughout your travel.
- Blueside has TFs from 10-15 to 35-39 which reward well (let's see...66 for Positron, 59 (including Babbage) for Synapse, 50 for Sister Psyche, 40 for Citadel, 35-36 for Manticore, 36 for Numina) for a total of around 260 Merits. To get that many Merits redside I'd need to run an ITF, Respec, Lady Grey, Silver Mantis...and a bunch of arcs.
- LRSF isn't so bad these days with IOs, we usually finish it in 40 minutes to an hour. It's still annoying though.
- Just a limited amount of options blueside.
So...yeah...my villains will all be turning into heroes, RP considerations to the wind, so I can feast on the blueside Merit trough. -
-
-Finding more than three glowies or hostages in Oranbega
-Defeating more than 10 entities outside
-Speaking to the PvP zone contacts
-First patron arcs, autocomplete them to the last mission -

[Tell] -EP Team Captain: you going to watch me wreck you old team tonight?
Despite the fact that we lost the last match by a rather large margin I'd hardly consider that a "wreck"ing. And also considering it was only one match. Either way, good fight EP

Quote:Sadly, that ship sailed with Issue 13.
I don't want anyone to leave the game just like you. I happen to think more would PvP if they could retain their PvE roles even if some of the power mechanics change. I happen to PvP in just such a way as indicated by my original post in this thread, and I'm certain i'm no the only one.
If the given description and design of each AT does not hold 100% true in PvP... then I encourage us all to re-write them for the public PvP style without the drama. Give Purpose back to each AT and you might find that many set/set combos are capable of fulfilling that purpose.
I'm levelling and IOing a Sonic/Sonic Corr on Infinity with full knowledge she'll never see any serious PvP play because it's been compleetely neutered:
i)The shields add all of a speck more resists and don't resist Psi
ii)The cage used to be awesome and now they might as well just have the description be: "Pretty graphics surround target for 3-4 seconds, then suppress on same target."
iii)The big bubble doesn't do much, if anything
iv)Siphon does add a little -RES, but Rad is better
v)LOLiquefy in PvP
Again, the ONLY reason I am doing anything with this is I'm bored and have too much infamy and IOs kicking around.
NO ONE should roll a bad toon/powerset combo if they hope to improve their gameplay or their pvp skills. If you want to roll a bad combo because you're bored and have the means, go nuts. I mean, you might still get kills in zones.
But the sad truth is that I13 wrecked the roles we'd all worked hard on for months. There were some awesome Sonics out there, but they're not needed. There were some great Kins, but they're not wanted. The list goes on.
This has been TLDR but I'm waiting for the last few minutes of my hero respec to die down and I'm bored.
Please, please, please, please, please stop waylaying new players into believing their toons have some capacity to resemble their pve functionality. You're just going to get them frustrated when they spend zillions on their favorite hero/vill only to get propelled 50' in the air and instakilled because they don't have enough KB protect or whatever.
If a new player REALLY wants helpful advice, they can drop by Pocket D Freedom on Thursday or Sunday (or really any) night and ask some of the ladder teams some questions. Heck, they can just ask Con, mac, Supermax or anyone here some questions.
But you need to stop your insane crusade of self-victimization and propaganda because you're hurting people who could be helped.
Period. -
Agree with barrier on this one.
As someone who spent a good 8 out of 10 minutes of matches in cages pre I12, I never complained about it here. You just had to get out of the cage, rebuff your teammates or make saves as you could.
The only stuff that should be limited or banned is bugged powers. If you want to make a case Taunt is bugged, and I believe barrier has, that's another story. I just hate limiting stuff to begin with, to be honest.
Not a captain, just my two cents. Psoma and Slax and Lib will decide for us after we've discussed it. -

Quote:80-100 million infamy per run in about 15-20 minutes of work.I don't know how much inf they were producing per run, though we can probably figure it out - it was around 60 Giant Montsers per map.
Needlessly to say, my chat channels were full of:
"Zomg Kara this is insane!" and people bought purples for 'trivial' amounts.
I've gotten purples lately but they are not hitting the Market. They're going into storage for further use unless I already have two sets of the item I've received as a drop.
Got mouths to feed, and all.
Edit: Oh, you could get just as much inf blueside, Rikti War Zone has an AE...

In fact, perhaps I'll list the free recipes I get from my Ouroboros day job for 11 influence, just to spread some goodwill. Huzzah!

Can you guys do your match earlier/later so we can watch it after our D8? This looks epic.
