Slax and some other dUmbies are on Cerebus server.
Earthguard and myself (at some point) will be on Daemon, Templar.

IF City of Heroes is saved and IF I get all my accrued Paragon Points, Paragon Reward tokens and I24 launches properly, I'll get some Paragon Points bundles and go from there.
At the moment, I'm still making plans for CoH sunset and that won't change until I get some real information that resumes player services, including billing and VIP allotments. -
Quote:This. You still require dollars to spend.
I just don't buy it. If I had a serious downturn in income, video games would be the very first thing to go.
And actually, that makes me think of something about our playerbase.
If I had to characterize CoH, it would be the MMO that people who don't play MMOs do play. That could factor in to the reaction of its playerbase to the Great Recession relative to those of other MMOs - if they aren't the sort of people who would have picked up a monthly sub before they found CoH (something I constantly read here on the forums), maybe they are more willing to drop it when times get tough, irrespective of how much "entertainment per dollar" it may offer.
I have a bunch of friens that only played CoH because it was easy to get into, get costumes and so on. Their families grew, they got bored or whatever and dropped the game without migrating to another MMO because they liked this one but just didn't have the time or inclination to stick around waiting for new content. -
AE didn't kill CoH but it was handled extremely poorly.
You had people hitting 50 in an hour or two then sweeping bans, then a post by Positron explaining the exploit ban/issue then some were un-banned and others were not. On top of that some of the characters were deleted.
Adjacent to that you had the badge issue, which required aberrant behaviour to get some badges (1,000 times running a certain mission?) and then THOSE badges disappeared. Then the Dev's Choice mess, where some great arcs never got any recognition because either the Devs missed them, the Devs didn't like them or maybe even the Devs weren't fond of the player who wrote them.
Not even going to start on the ratings griefing, some of the Dev's Choice not having proper power warnings (hidden EBs in one of them with no reference to them in mission text) and so on.
MA was a nice idea, terribly implemented and never addressed for the following few years. I only use it to PL alts these days, running labelled arcs (LBMA for example) is really hit and miss and a handful of the Dev's Choice hit the right target of decent story AND good challenge.
Architect killed Architect due to variance in rewards, badge issues and so on. It didn't kill CoH, though I do anecdotally know some people that unsubbed as they did with I13. -
If your group needs to rest its feet in a bar setting, I had The Hacienda nightclub from Manchester rebuilt on Pinnacle server, heroside. Would be glad to help you if you'd like to visit. My global is @Neuronia.

HYperstrike, I completely agree.
That said, NCSoft aren't idiots. They probably, at some level, realise that their customer base is pissed. They probably even expect some anger and residual backlash. That's going to happen at the "Anger" stage I suppose.
Let's be honest, there are those playing here that try any MMO a few hours then move on. I myself tried AION, uninstalled when I found it too grindy. I doubt CoH players as a whole want to play another fantasy grinder.
The important thing is that a bunch of people, nominally led by TonyV, are trying to be rational and using great outreach to get that done. I'm pretty...outside the whole thing at the moment. I wish everyone well in their efforts but I'm completely unsure how I can contribute to the cause. -
I'll buy in if I can start team tasks solo.
-
Another minor nitpick, PvP was around since Issue 4: Collosseum, but CoV did add the zones, but yeah.
Laughed heartily when Oda was like:
"Masterminds? YAAAAAAAAAAH. Minions under my command!"
So true to form to the AT and to many of the players that enjoy it. -

I'd keep my Subs active and drop an extra $30 per sub on points if and only if they keep the same dev team and they keep the game afloat for a while.

The game: Call of Cthulhu Online
- The concept: Players investigate strange happenings in Innsmouth, the Antarctic, the hideous Plateau of Leng and less exotic areas like the GOP/Dem conventions.
- What we keep: Insanity, AR, Dual Pistols, Martial Arts, the "sword sets" and Mind Control (see addendum below)
- What we lose: Any advancement past level 20, by that point your SAN should be any playable threshold. Confuse in Mind Control acts like an aggro magnet and might actually confuse your allies. Them's the breaks.
- What we add: SAN bar. Starts at 100, decreases with each encounter. Increases somewhat with levels. Trips to the hospital can cripple you permanently.
- Why it would be like City of Heroes: We'd still be shooting stuff and travelling and reading clues.
- The Downside: We'd end up shooting each other a lot. Not just due to phobias, but because the RP crowd still took Flamethrower and Mass Confusion, resulting in DoT/Self-annihilation every few minutes.
- Why I would play this: Arcanaville would laugh off the SAN loss, I'd actually get to shoot incompetent teammates.
The game: Stormbringer Online- The concept: Players start in the now ruined city of Imrryr and venture into the Young Kingdoms for adventure.
- What we keep: All the sword sets, "natural" fighting sets, Control Sets and Fire/PSy/Ice Blast, Warshades (see Why it would be...)
- What we lose: Any self-determination. Arioch/Donblas know how this is going to end, but you won't until you re-sub for at least one month.
- What we add: More gruesome violence. The concept of anima/souls powering you up with each defeat.
- Why it would be like City of Heroes: Warshades already do everything in What we add.
- The Downside: Pohsyb never got around to letting the player models of Runeswords be "Stable". On the plus side, you can progress easily enough if you kill one of your teammates every now and then.
- Why I would play this: If I'm doomed, I may as well have a giant magic sword to kill with.
The game: Paranoia Online- The concept: You're a clone. The Computer is always right. Trust no one.
- What we keep: Everything, but...Citizen, who gave you the right to proc Fire Blast in such a manner? COMMIE TRAITOR TERMINATE.
- What we lose: Any trust in the fellow player.
- What we add: Purchaseable Clone packs. 80 Paragon Points for 5, 160 for 12, 400 gives you a 24 but about half of them are faulty/bugged.
- Why it would be like City of Heroes: The game already gives us instructions and not all of them are reasonable...
- The Downside: Computer model ARCA-NA1-V1ll3 has been known to mercilessly eliminate citizens that, well, are blatant idiots or nuisances.
- Why I would play this: Fun is mandatory, as per R054 QU4rtz module update. (Nice catch :-) )
- The concept: You are the world's favourite superspy solving mysteries and telling off your boss.
- What we keep: Gun sets and most "normal" armor sets.
- What we lose: Any affection for Mr. Bean, he's your first mark.
- What we add: Great roles for females. Sadly they all end up being a "role" in the hay with Bond.
- Why it would be like City of Heroes: We'd get to visit exciting locales, fight interesting foes and be insulted by our boss (the Devs) with each new update.
- The Downside: War Watch posing as "M", Posi as Bond and Zwillinger as "Q". Arcanaville never got fair play as "Mathzilla" since Bond can't count past seven.
- Why I would play this: If I could kick Bond in the nuts just once, I would lifetime sub.

Namesake:
Got Master of Statesman's Task Force for about two months on complete pugs on Champion. We made it work. This was way pre-Incarnates and only a few on each team were IOd. The most hilarious team had:
Neuronia Mind/Bubbles
Peacerbringer (Bi-form, had the Crab and Human)
Warshade (Tri-Form)
Emp Defender
2xFire Rad Controller
2xSpine/Regen Scrapper
We had two Cysts in the last mission and a Cyst in the tree room but the Scrappers, Warshade and FRads were so killtastic we only saw a handful of unbound nicti emerging. Total pro points to the PB using Glowing Touch to heal the Emp who had been stunned by some random Psi blast.
Relentless Pursuit Mind/Fire Dominatir - Infinity:
So my friend @Shotty Mario and another player made a trio of super villains called the "Relentless Girls". We all had base Mind Control and a different secondary, I chose Fire and Des wsa Mind/Psi and Lust was Mind/Earth.
And we all had identical costumes at tier 1, each of us designed one for tier 2, 3 and 4. Lust unsubbed but Des stuck around. Recently we did all the "hard tfs":
Duo LRSF, took us an hour, So much easier with States and Psyche pushing daisies.
Duo LGTF, Hami took a while...but we used all our pets and cracked the egg.
Duo ITF, about an hour the panel was the most tedious part and Romi eating his Nicti the most fun!
Duo Master Tin Mage. This was long...about two hours because War Walkers take FOREVER to kill duo...and confusing them doesn't help much. Bobcat was hilarious too as we were hoverconfuse and blasting but her claws cone would eviscerate us in a most unkind fashion. Best part of that tf? Ghosting the computers then waiting outside and having Director 11 spawn on top of us and getting Midnight Dodger in a duo, hellz yeah!
PvP Stuff:
So it's been pretty uneven for me but one of the BEST matches was Integrity vs. Pingu City Justice League. Integrity was a bunch of stragglers from Infinity, Pinnacle, Champion and Triumph. We had good players but weren't elite/crazy good to push for top spots. PCJL were basically the Pingus from Champion. Since I'm originally from Champion this made for some nice trash talk during TFs heh.
So anyway, PCJL always brought Storms. Like always. Didn't matter which opponent, which (random) map, who they had on, it was Storms. We knew this so our jump team drew Atlas Park so we congregated on City Hall while PCJL was on the globe. At this point @Syphonics AFKs to watch Heroes (>.<) becaue Syph ALWAYS AFKs during matches...but still kept you Sonic bubbled, sopro.
Anyway, Syph comes back from his AFK with about 3:15 on the clock Syph is like: "I'm just gonna sonic nuke these kids, Kara just hit me with Adrenalin Boost and Absorb Pain." Proj is like: "Syph if you do that I *swear* I will find your house and give you a swrily."
So with 1:05 left all hell breaks loose. We leave the roof, PCJL leaves the globe. Yosef Vanya gets a kill on his Fire/EM, Killobot gets a kill on his Fire/EM. Ping gets one back...
30 seconds left!
Fire races across the plaza, Stryker and I cast AP (Absorb Pain) like crazy. We [b]cannot heal[/i], each other or ourselves becaues of the NOHEAL on the power. I start getting spiked...
10 seconds left!
I pop oranges.
5 seconds left!
Damage starts coming in, health drops!
3 seconds left!
Phase Shift enables, I click!
The last two blasts from PCJL meet an Unaffected as you could NOT attack through Phase at that point, and we win!
We took fourth place for a week. PCJL and we would swap that middle rung for ages. On vent, people were having heart attacks. They couldn't believe we won but there it was, 2-1 and our little gang of server misfits had seized the day.
That's what PvP was all about, close fights and some total mismatches but just friends fighting other friends.
Then there was the 3 v 3 league on Champion. That was kinda meh but we had one hilarious match against ELF STALKER's team. The rule was if you left the map with under X minutes left you forfeit. So we didn't have the damage to fight them and...TADAA...a brainstorm! I had a Human form PB on Champ with Group Fly. Philly GIrl, myself and Exit (I think) all gathered up and chose Skyway City as the map. Why Skyway? Well it has these really, really tall buildings that you can't scale unless you have flight packs (not everyone buys these) or flight (no one takes flight in PvP...) so we just went up there and waited for 10 minutes.
They left before time was up so we won due to a technicality, bwahahahaha!

Quote:Yeah I did this as soon as Converters were announced. Two bins of the damned things and they're damned near useless outside of some Dom and Blaster builds. Also, another confession. I was slowly buying up Centrioles at basically nothing and stuffing them into extra storage in adjunct bases, because I figured one day we'd be able to use converters on HOs.
Eventually, I would have suggested it to the devs if they didn't do it on their own. -
I emailed Posi with the Eden exploit (5-10 minute runs from the zone-in, tp through walls and just kill Titan) and we traded PMs forever but nothing happened until one day...the recipe rolls got replaced with Reward Merits.
Law of unintended consequences and all that.
Once got Exit to sing Righteous Brothers on Vent, which was pretty sexy.
Once got Syphonics to sing Chocolate Rain on Vent, which was not sexy, but frightening.
I once didn't heal Trezen in a pvp practice with dUmb just so I'd hear him scream on Vent. Always did my best in matches though.
When you could still get "Hall of Famer" or whatever it's called early on without too much difficulty, Beef Cake and his million accounts made an arc about beer, invited us all to vote for him so we have most of Pinnacle and other servers spam voting his arc. Eventually I think we got him to Hall of Famer before all the badges were zapped.
Speaking of Pinnacle, X-Funk (his name comes up a lot in this silliness events) got bored one day and decided he was going to try and shut down Warburg farms across servers. Since he knew I had a ton of alts on Champion, he asked me to be a spotter over there and he'd maybe split the ransom with me. You see, X-Funk figured he could ransom people's farms and it almost worked. Threads popped up on every server forum chiding him, people were raging nonstop and I think Ex Libris (or was it Lighthouse) actually started getting exhausted from it all heh.
Nothing major here, just a bunch of pve exploits for the most part. -

Quote:I can't find the thread but someone estimated there was 70-80,000,000 "Pax" generated daily. Moneymakers are mostly the Signets (kinda high-level enhancements) that you get from Nightmare level raids and PvP action.I'll have to look into The Secret World as well, it seems some might head there ...
There's only one trading house in London, and no remote trading house.
Not sure if you can email stuff either.
From what I've seen there is no housing, and personal storage is "bags", which have a cap. Don't think you can trade between your own characters.
Right, so I found the thread, it's called "Runaway Inflation"
http://forums.thesecretworld.com/showthread.php?t=57308
Expenses:
Repair costs
The Auction House's cut
Taco charges
Pangaea clothes (some of them aren't all that cheaper)
Inventory size increases
Gear manager slots
Raid markings
Other miscellaneous stuff like flashbangs
(Tacos are like inspirations with multi-uses from what I understand)
Estimates by user Kagerota00:
(Italics/bold are mine)
"So. for easy math, lets say the game is generating 1000 Pax every second of every day. This is probably an Exceptionally low guess. I'd estimate probably more like 100k every second, but whatever.
So also imagine that every ten seconds, someone is buying something from a vendor, or repairing their items (Since you don't generally spend as often as you gain, but the values tend to be larger, we'll split the different and call it ten seconds for a modest amount). So lets call this value 1000 every ten seconds, or 100 pax every second is being deleted by the game. Because that's what happens when a vendor takes your money. He's not putting it back in the pool for other players to earn. The game system is just deleting it; just like it creates it for players to earn.
So, with our imaginary numbers, we have 1000 pax being made every second, with 100 of it being delted. for a net gain of 900 pax coming into the economy every second.
24 hours a day, seven days a week, not counting downtime. Some quick math...
544,320,000 Pax going into the economy every week.
ThIs is money that Never goes away, it just trades hands. After a month, you have nearly 2 billion new Pax being generated every month. With roughly only the same number of players to distribute it across."
User blupache:
"The real money comes once you're in the QL10 zones, getting stuff you don't want that's potentially top end in-demand gear on the marketplace."
So basically the stuff they want is "purples" or "pvp IOs" and such. There doesn't seem to be anything like levels in this game, since your "stats" are tied to their Ability Wheel concept and you get various "points" to increase wheel efficiency. So you'll never get Mako's Bites, Numina, Miracle, etc. at Mid-level crisis. It's basically a gear wheel that gets topped up by signets/high-end gear.
Morteia, a Community Manager, hints that there is no trading PAX for their equivalent of Paragon Points:
"I'm also a fan of being able to trade large amounts of Pax for FC points, but I honestly have no idea how that would work or if it can even be done. I'll still put it on the list, though!"
It also should be noted that TSW isn't really "alit-friendly" since you can have multiple "wheel builds" on the same character, from what I understand. It would be like in CoH if you started as a Fire/EM Blaster but you had a Mind/Bubbler spec, a Cold Domination/Sonic Spec, a Street Justice/Fire Armor spec and so on, so there really is no need to roll an alt except to see the other two factions.
Hope this help, don't shoot the messenger as I'm not in game there yet, waiting to see what happens here first but likely migrating in October/November. -
Quote:I had an Amiga 1000. I added an external expansion box with 2MB of RAM so I could load the operating system onto a ramdrive. That really made the system fly. I was on several local BBSes and was one of the first people there to have a 2400 baud modem. Woo hoo!
I remember starting an old BBS with a friend for kicks, we had one of those trading turn-based games installed and actually carried a real-life argument into the game (impossible I know) and nuked each other's base colonies hehehe.
Good times. -
Well Neuronia started as Synapse (female) in a HERO System game, then became Neuronia here. She'll surface in another MMO I am sure.
-
Yep yep.
Atari 2600
Intellivision
Commodore 64 (Miner 2049 ftw)
Amiga (Infocom/Hitchhiker's Guide-Infidel-Zork ftw)
Apple IIE
286
386
Pentium (kicking and screaming)
Think our house went through all the rigs at some point. -
Inventions here. Being able to get any rare pice in two days, the ease of getting purples and so on...going to be hard to beat. As well, storage for loot is going to be missed.

Successful Master LGTF, Incandescence TOtal Core our 9th player and fellow All-Star.
Thanks all, STF/MLTF tomorrow. -
You are my favourite unlockable contact redside, I imagine the grind to unlock you is nothing compared to the crunching and testing you go through on a daily basis.
Cheers and good luck. -

I need to step away from superhero games for a while so I'll be going to Secret World too. I've done a fair bit of research so I know the combat is nowhere near as fast as this game and it has its flaws, but...it's different enough that I will give it two to three months of gameplay to test it out. If by February (starting in November) I feel disappointed I'll re-download Champs Online. -
Quote:Think I can kinda answer these.
2. Beyond "subscribing," what else would I have to do to get "everything?" Buy stuff individually off the cash shop? Is stuff I don't own but could purchase shown in the editor/creator/wherever so I know it exists but can't use without paying?
3. Say I want to make Sam Tow like he was always supposed to be - Katana as a primary weapon, dual pistols as a support weapon and super-human reflexes with which to dodge really fast, strike really fast and shoot really accurately, what would I have to do? Yes, I know about Dual Pistols and SwordAxeMace, and I suspect there should be some kind of Reflexes set, but what about stats? Last I played Champions, it asked me to pick things like Strength and Intelligence and... Ego? Is it even reasonable to build for all of that?
2. You get currency in game and can (sometimes?) exchange a bloatrous amount for C-Store stuff. Otherwise you probably need to buy their currency with real money and turn that into items. It's as if your Paragon Points were a secondary influence for unlocks.
3. Not so sure about but the "Hybrid" class might do that, but when I played it I had one attack through levels 3-4 and there wasn't a trainer in the tutorial so I uninstalled. -
Yeah, this. I tried it and the customization was ok but a TON was locked out at level 1, even for a free account. The gameplay was okay but I'm going to steer away from supers games after this, there would just be too much comparison shopping going on...best of luck to them.
