  2. I marketeer to some extent with every character I have, unless I'm pursuing an experimental data point (as with my concept stalker who's seeing how much inf you make just running a straight line to 50, doing nothing but selling drops).

Other than that, I use however many characters I need for this or that scheme. For the 88s I use....5? I'm making the bulk of my inf selling crafted junk these days and the relatively slow turnover means I need quite a few slots. I farm MA with my fire tank who finds 'good' recipes to craft, I buy ten stacks to craft with my ar/dev and dump everything in base storage for my three 'slot mules' to pick up and list.

One can easily say many of the powers in game look stupid, and yet still use them.
The existence of stupid graphics doesn't justify the creation of more stupid graphics, sorry.

It would look much stupider if they swung across the zone on lines attached to invisible angels flying overhead.

There's a big hairy fly in the ointment of your theory, and its called "supply and demand".

If, say, Alchemical Silver were abundantly supplied.....it would no longer be valuable. There's no motivation to hoard oversupplied junk.

In the very recent past an MA loophole supercharged the supply of rare salvage. Even knowing the loophole would be closed eventually, prices of rares crashed across the board. I'm sure some folk hoarded against the eventual return of the status quo (I know I socked away as many Hamidon Goos as I could fit in my various bases, turning a tidy profit), but supply was running so high it didn't matter. I was flipping stuff that usually went for around 3,000,000 on a daily basis, buying for 500k and selling for 1m.

Many people seem comforted by the myth that small numbers of players can effect meaningful, longterm price shifts on the market. The reality is supply and demand rules all and is dictated on a grand scale by the actions of the entire playerbase, or dev fiat.
  5. if they want to supercharge supply changing drop rates is the easiest way to do it.

And "market scheming" does nothing to drive up prices- quite the opposite.
  6. Nice, that'll give me time to grab some badges on less played alts.

    naw.
  8. I'd comment on your being the best mod ever, but that bar is so low I don't want to damn you with faint praise.

Best of luck on the new endeavor!
  9. They were non-essential conveniences when they launched, and they're still non-essential conveniences. Fun for some players to mess around with, invisible to most.

Even my time isn't valuable enough to lament the few seconds a month I spend shuffling inf around. =P

EDIT: I also referred to the WW inf cap, which is another inf sink that will get underused if purple recipes get over 2 bil worth.
If purples reach the point where a meaningful number are "worth" 2b it's going to be a long, long, loooong time from now. In the short term its a distinct non-problem.

    Why?

Gleemail gives us basically unlimited inf storage by letting us shuffle stuff around between alts.

I mean I wouldn't kick if they raised it, but it's far from necessary.

Why, when your earning power is skyrocketing right along side?

Again, anyone who cares to can make as much inf as they can carry.
So what does "rich" mean in that context?

In the current game inf is basically meaningless, as is anything which is trivially easy to accumulate. I support inf sinks and more stuff to spend it on not as a way to make anything more affordable but as a way to make inf mean something again.

ha ha ha, "buy low, sell high"; I swear I heard that in some comedy movie...
I find it less tiresome than your proposed solution, "grind til your eyes bleed".
I mean they both work, but one is vastly easier and less time consuming.

  15. I have a couple in my fire/axe tanks AoEs.....they make a noticable difference when I'm farming.
  16. I slapped it in my ar/dev's caltrops and it's fun and, I guess, useful since if they're on their backs they're not shooting at me.

I'm not rock solid on the mechanics, but I believe it checks to fire every 10 seconds?

So far it's given me some laughs and some mitigation, I give it the thumbs up.
  17. I'm about ready to start burning again, once all my holiday obligations die down.

A pal gifted me a year sub to 'some other game' he recently started playing again, but I don't expect it to interfere with my marketeering much.
  18. Mach 7, ma/sr scrapper, based on one of my old Champions pen and paper characters.

MA and SR were so terrible back then I gave up around level 12, but I liked his costume so he never got deleted.

Nowadays he's my 'main' Crazy 88's character. I've played him a bit and got him up to level 20.

I like the gun drone trick.
Before the respec I also liked dropping caltrops then sticking an Ignite patch in the middle- nice defiance boost plus a surprise for rushers. =D

Ok, slotted in the last few enhancers and am now comfortably above the legendary 'soft cap'. As a test I ran my usual MA farm bumping it up to +2/x8. Piece of cake, nothing touched me- going was a bit slow though.

Dialed it back down to +0/x8 and ran a couple of tip missions.

Arachnos? No problem, mowed them down like grass. This was a mission that I'd found troublesome with my old build on +0/x3.

Had a bit of trouble with a Longbow mission (two deaths)- the problem seemed to be those stupid grenades the nullifiers toss. Are they autohit, or did I just get really unlucky? One I pinpointed the problem it was do-able- stun the nullifiers then mow everyone else.

    Screens and whatnot to follow.

I'm thinking I"ll do another respec for tweaks- I missed my snipe and will probably drop it back in as per Plainguy's suggestion. And while the Ragnarok knockdown proc is hilarious in Caltrops, I need to either find another slot for a slow enhancer or pull it out for a slow. Higher cons get through it fairly easily- I'm so used to having it three slotted for slow (which was a borderline immobilize for everything I faced) it's sort of annoying.

Also, having some slight end problems due to a missing Miracle +rec. Dunno what I did with it. Put out some bids and should have it slotted soon.

Not really wanting to put one together myself (even if a friend puts in the labor). Pre-built computers are fairly cheap now, and I would at least like to have something that comes with a year or more of customer support in case something goes wrong. Think I should just find a good computer store in the area? Best Buy, or something like that? Or are there better deals online?
I have a dell and like it just fine- the problem with the current Alienwares is that they're charging a premium for a name that no longer carries the cache of cutting edge machines hand built by wild-eyed hardware geeks- it's just another Dell box. Which isn't necessarily bad, but isn't worth paying extra for.

My buddy has one of the Dell 'performance' rigs (XPS i think?) and he loves it.
  23. when Alienware was its own thing they were great.

nowadays, as mentioned...if you want a dell, buy a dell.
