It's amazing that anyone could ever complain about not having gobs of inf in this game, more than they'll ever need. But the whiners will continue to whine while I enjoy my golden years, grumbling about the darn young'uns.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You can regard those people as whiners, but they also illustrate what will happen if a player doesn't play the market. There is really a huge gap between your 16 billion and those so-called whiners.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes, the whiners would rather cry poor than lift a finger to help their cause even when people give them step-by-step instructions for fortune-building.

The poor-by-choice don't deserve any sympathy.
  2. I have a pretty high ignore threshold.

But some folk are constantly wrong, so dishonest about it engaging them is a waste of time, and generally about as much fun to read as Wittgenstein in the original German.

    That's where /ignore proves its worth. =)
  3. [ QUOTE ]
Does it count as trolling if the OP made no sense?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think this falls under the old internet adage

    You can't troll a troll.
  4. [ QUOTE ]
I have 2: My first was a MA/Nin Stalker called 'The Rascal King' (my first character to 50, & before the I12 stalker buff).

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Wow!

That should earn you a badge...I deleted every pre-buff stalker I ever tried to play.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
2 ignored posters in a row in a thread on the same subject that got them ignored in the first place...

    [/ QUOTE ]

hey, are you peeking at my monitor?!?

    =P
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Have you ever had the experience of falling in love with one of your characters. Of just wanting to play them all the time you're on? Of wanting them to have all the accolades and best stuff, because the character is a little bit of awesome with a chaser of win.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Minus the accolade part (I hate grinding badges for those things), this has happened a couple of times for me.

First with my fire/axe tank The Barbarian Nerd.
Everything came together so well with him I've never even tinkered with his bio or look...and I'm an inveterate tinkerer.
I've tried making alternate costumes, but can't beat his original look so that's all he rocks. I blew all the inf he made farming DA on getting the Lord of War badge because it was PERFECT for him.

The other one was my namesake the Goat, my lone level 50 villain. Again, he's perfect and I wouldn't change anything.
He's a soloing and farming machine and I play him more than any of my other characters.
I've dropped about 500 million into IO/Purpling him out and probably have another 500 or so to go (he's building capital just now). Just a guaranteed good time whenever I log him in.
  7. My (currently stalled awaiting new video card) experimental stalker racked up 30 million by level 30 selling drops and crafting generic IOs using recipe & salvage drops. He got a -KB drop pre-MA that he sold for 10 million, that was the only "good" one. Zero marketeering, zero MA'ing other than running the tutorial and one mission (since I'm trying to play him as close to the 'casual gamer' ideal as I can).

Anybody who cries poor is either super lazy or just wants 'teh shiny' without paying market value.
  8. My brute's been consistently flipping level 50 Fly Speed IOs in spite of "blowing" it in a handful of posts over the last couple of weeks.

I mean, it isn't a tremendous moneymaker, but you figure SOMEBODY would eventually horn in on my action.

Which is hilariously sad, as the background is all they have rights to.

They aren't allowed to use the Hero system.

LOL, then again i've heard some on outside blogs say the same thing about THIS game.

I don't agree, just saying they say it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Champs was a great set of rules attached to a mediocre 'universe'. I had a ton of fun playing it over the years, but we used our own settings.

I'm not fanatical about the CoH setting, but Lord Recluse > Dr. Destroyer, Arachnos > Viper, Positron > Defender, etc etc.

The Champs universe was just very derivative and stale.
  10. [ QUOTE ]

I can tell you right now that the gameworld in that other game isn't all that immersive . . . so far. Neither is the story.

    Or so I hear.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Anyone with a background in the pen and paper RPG could have told you that before they even launched.

The 'official' universe is a lukewarm Marvel rip-off and most of the 'canon' characters are tremendously boring, both visually and story-wise.
  11. [ QUOTE ]

I play mostly red side because I like the classes much better. I'd rather play on the more populated side with more to do and a better market, given the chance, but none of the classes on blue-side really appeal to me. (Tho, I have been enjoying playing a sonic/sonic defender lately, I must admit!) Sure I'm not FORCED to, but I kind of am if I want to play a stalker or MM since there's nothing even close on the blue side.

    [/ QUOTE ]

There will certainly be cases like yours.
There will also be people who've always played heroes, who've never tried red side for whatever reason, that will decide to check it out.

And of course there are people like me, with a stable of heroes AND villains.

For a sizable slice of the population it isn't an either/or proposition.
  12. [ QUOTE ]

My point was that people would leave because they were disappointed about some side-switching feature that was never confirmed or even announced. People are getting worked up over rumors at this point and threatening to leave over not getting your rumored feature is silly.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Nobody's threatening to leave.
What I'm hearing is that if they don't get a full-featured, real side switching they won't be popping for the expansion.
And they'll lose some players that feel passionately about side switching and generate a lot of bad word of mouth.

There's enough info out there to draw conclusions from, and most of them are pretty obvious given the infamous survey.

    [ QUOTE ]
But I think you're wrong about some of your early points. I won't argue it because it's mostly opinion at this point. I just have a newbie's perspective on things here and I see a lot of old-timers sticking with a just-okay MMO (sorry, but this game really is showing its age!!) for whatever reason.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If you're here long enough you see that even long time veterans come and go, and sometimes return. Churn is a reality across all demographics. The population of thick-and-thin die-hards that bleed Paragon Studios red isn't enough to keep the doors open.

An underwhelming release will cost them across all demographics.

    [ QUOTE ]
CoX is below the radar for a lot of gamers at this point. The devs want fresh blood. A big expansion with lots of hype will get them that, whether is has "real" side switching or not.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not including it will generate a firestorm of criticism and dampen enthusiasm for the new box.
As opposed to delivering exciting, highly anticipated features, which would generate a tidal wave of excitement that would buoy sales.

    [ QUOTE ]
I know from my point of view it doesn't really make a difference. And I know from my limited experience that if you COULD switch sides, red side would die and the devs don't really want that.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    nonsense.
players play villains because they enjoy it, not because they're being forced to.
Some villains will migrate to Paragon, some heroes will migrate to the Rogue Isles, and the population imbalance will stay roughly the same.

If GR futures were available on the market, I'd bet big on side switching and power customization.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
I know you think it'll be a bad "PR" move on their part but the fact is they're not gonna draw in LESS players if it's not the way existing players want it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Yes they absolutely would.
the community of hardcore MMO gamers is pretty incestuous and the 'conventional wisdom' they generate has a LOT of power to drive sales.

If they give us some half-baked 'not really' version of side switching they're going get burned at the stake, both online and at Best Buy or wherever.

    [ QUOTE ]
They're also not gonna LOSE existing players if it's not the way they want it. You guys [censored] and moan all the time but you're still here 5 years later and you're not going anywhere and they know this.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I bailed after ED. If they piss me off enough I'll walk- lots of games out there to try, many of them are probably fun enough to keep me occupied for a year or so. Even a crummy MMO can be kinda fun for a few months if you're checking it out with your friends.
I'm not passionate about side switching, so they wouldn't lose me over this. But a LOT of people are really, really excited about it and they definitely would lose some population if they blow this feature.

    [ QUOTE ]
Don't confuse silence for consent. Don't get your hopes up and you won't be disappointed.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Why shouldn't I?

It's fun to be excited, it's fun to anticipate cool stuff.
Especially when it's supported by broad, obvious hints like they've been giving us regarding side switching and power customization.

If they deliver both, as I think they will, it makes the expansion 'must have' for nearly all current players and generates a tidal wave of good word of mouth to bring in newbies.

Certainly more fun than moping around like Eeyore, whining about how everythings gonna stink and we should all crush our expectations into a little ball to guarantee we won't be let down.

This is a video game, not a career change.
If you can't get excited about something this frivolous and trifling, what's the point of living?
  14. [ QUOTE ]
It's not licensed. NCsoft bought it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

yeah, where does this whole "licensed" thing come from anyway?

Part of the purchase agreement was that the Cryptic logo would always stay attached.

No license, they bought the game lock stock and barrel.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    Yeah, good luck with that.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Woah, that's a big thread. Anything ever come of it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It took the OP about three days to discover what most of us already knew- you can lead a moron to water, but you can't make it take a bath.
  16. they are absolutely going to let us switch sides 'for real'.
anything else would be a PR & sales disaster and they have to know that.

This is another step down the road of acknowledging that it's all one game and factional alliance is just window dressing.

The mechanism is up in the air- I'm going to guess that 'switchers' have to roam Praetoria filling up their good/evil karma bars before they can make the move. It'll probably be level restricted. The higher level you are, the more arduous the process.

All guesses of course, but I'm certain we'll get 'real' side switching.
  17. I give everything a chance to sell, and a lot of it does.

If it's still sitting there after a couple of days, I'll delete it.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Actually the separate markets make a lot of sense.
On the Black Market I could buy some stuff that would be out of my price range on the CH, just because there are more people and so they can better control the prices.

    [/ QUOTE ]
it's hard to know where to begin dissecting the dead whale of wrong that is this post.
  19. they're not going to hang a retail box release on another co-op zone. they know people want side switching, they're going to give us side switching.

the only question is how much of a time sink they'll attach to it and what the mechanism will be.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
All i hear in "goin rogue' is: buy a 5 usd slot in the 'other game' for your actual alt.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    you've filled up every server?
  21. [ QUOTE ]

I still see the potential of characters being stripped of all gear and starting back at level 1 if they change sides. This isn't my idea to do so, but because Going Rogue is a separate but connected game, it might very well work that way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Statesman is the only guy stupid enough to try something that moronic, and he's gone.
    So no worries.
  22. [ QUOTE ]

You forgot their unshakable belief that what they have to say is a unique snowflake of pure reason which should get everyone's attention before it gets drowned out by the rabble on page 20.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Hawr!

    it's funny because it's true...
  23. Bike Thief is a great name.

    I also admire your avatar.

    GRATZ on the double dip!

How about you being back the old style pvp and get rid of this so called GARBAGE pvp system you have now!

    [/ QUOTE ]

    old pvp stunk on ice.
give them some time to shake the kinks out of the new system before you flip out about it.
