  1. Bases are super handy.

If you're crafting for sale bases are awfully convenient. All that storage + the crafting table makes life a lot easier.

But for a weirdo like me who just flips stuff, they aren't necessary.

Actually, no, the costume piece recipes have crashed. They made quite the spike immediately after MA's launch, but now most of 'em are going for peanuts again.

    [/ QUOTE ]
They're still far from the vendor trash they were previously.
I just sold Draconic Wings for a million red-side.

    [ QUOTE ]
A lot of the common salvage also seems to be recovering, their existing supplies building back up.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Commons are still at a fraction of their previous supply level and price volatility is all over the place.
It isn't as insane as it was, but it's still far removed from 'normal'.

    [ QUOTE ]
And the set recipes just aren't coming in like they were on the heels of MA's launch. Prices on a lot of those are making their way back up to pre-MA levels.

    [/ QUOTE ]
The set flood was largely due to the super-efficient farms.
MA will still produce more than its share of set IO recipes because of the distillation effect tickets have, but I made bundle on my bet that most of 'the good stuff' would pop back up to near-normal prices once the outlier farms got shut down.

There is a middle ground between "the market is several times more efficient in generating rewards than any other use of time." and "The market is useless, the other ways are better." There's a LOT of middle ground to play in there, with the optimal result being "The market is better and faster, but you can get there nearly as efficiently using these other systems."

    [/ QUOTE ]

I haven't seen anything to indicate the devs share your opinions.

    Quite the opposite, in fact.

    [ QUOTE ]

Merits are the closest thing we've gotten to option (1), because they add a high degree of determinism to purchasing specific goods. As noted, merits are a comparatively time-inefficient way to directly outfit a character. I interpret this as intentional. Though it's been argued that the introduction of merits had a deleterious effect on the game's markets, I believe their slow rate of progress is intended to ensure that random drops (and thus the markets) are not completely swamped by their use. If true, that means the devs essentially want us to prefer the market as a means to obtain rare goods. That makes a certain sense, seeing has how the market was introduced simultaneously with IOs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is what I meant by the system they chose leading to certain obvious conclusions.

They wanted a market because it's a ready-made time tested minigame. Any market adjuncts (say, merits) will be set up so they'll only undermine the appeal and utility of the market in service of some other gameplay timesink ('grinding merits' in this case).

MOAR DROPS is an entitlement whine because all it does is increase rewards for something people will do anyway (team so they can steamroll stuff).

I don't want the AI to be better at killing me. I want the AI to be more interesting to kill.

this is a nice summary, Sam.
    I agree.
  7. oh, so when he said "ruined" he meant "made a million times better".

    got it.

"Entitlement whines" such as claiming that one specific playstyle SHOULD and OUGHT to have far better rewards than any other, even to the point of claiming that anything that takes away from that one preferred playstyle is a "backwards idea" by the developers?

    [/ QUOTE ]
That looks like it's supposed to be a real zinger, but it doesn't make any sense to me.
    Better luck next time.

    [ QUOTE ]
It has always seemed to me that the first people to start saying "entitlement" like it's an actual argument are the biggest hypocrites in defending the sense that their own preferred playstyle should be inherently more rewarding than any other.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm not defending anything in particular in this thread, other than dealing with reality instead of a Utopian fantasy of how you'd like things to work.

Use the knowledge of this forum to make a truckload of inf with one hand, write the the devs to beg for higher drop rates with the other and see which strategy gets your warshade purpled first.
  9. I've been tracking Ragnarok's for the Goat and prices have done nothing but soar.

The piece I picked up for 55 million a while back reached a peak of 150 million this morning, and none of the last 5 were under 100.

I'm tempted to flip it.... =P
  10. [ QUOTE ]
You get inf in this game by grinding out merits, using merits to buy reward rolls, and selling your unwanted random rewards to people who got their inf from gold farmers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

only if you like doing things the hard way.

Hmm. Try "They system we have now does what it was designed to do quite well if you play the market And the only rationale that I can see driving this call..."

    [/ QUOTE ]
The market is integral to the IO system. If they wanted people to be able to get everything they wanted as drops, they'd have come up with a radically different system. If they wanted people to get 'the good stuff' with minimal effort, they'd have come up with a radically different system.

But they came up with a market system.
Certain obvious conclusions follow that basic fact.

    [ QUOTE ]
Make sure to account for both personal bias and personal blind spots there. Motivations, especially ones from an anonymous poster somewhere on the internet, aren't always easy to guess, no matter how much you may WANT them to be simple and easy to understand and dismiss.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    things are what they are.
pointless entitlement whines have been part and parcel of this forum since day one, and are as easy to identify as they are to dismiss.

    But hey, keep crying.
You never know what backward idea the devs will adopt next!
  12. [ QUOTE ]
Well a lot of people have complained that they should make the super tailor open to all, since its a long awaited and asked for feature and give something else in its place. Looks like that might be what's goin on.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Only in Wishfulthinking Land.
  13. I haven't been paying a lot of attention, having cashed out most of my bets for big inf (purples bought before I14, set IO recipes bought at the height of Meow Mania).

I'm still successfully flipping uncommon salvage on one of my alts, buying for around 9k and selling for 100-400k, so it hasn't calmed down that much. =P

I think loose words like "fine" are the problem here. ET worked fine for a bajillion issues and changed. Hover and Fly animations worked "fine" for years and changed.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm not saying they won't do something silly and misguided- we have ample evidence that they will. Tickets, for instance.

I'm saying the system we have now does what it was designed to do quite well and there the only rationale driving this call for change is "I deserve the good stuff for less effort!"
  15. No agitating for change here.

Some people like 'em, and that's fine.

    Diversity is a good thing.
  16. I'm not big on story stuff, but I do enjoy Bocor's arc.

Fun temp power, neat badge, good storyline.

    Thumbs up.
  17. [ QUOTE ]

I read frequently about various players spending 100's of millions of influence for io sets and purple sets. I am wondering why.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It's another way to 'advance' characters you like/enjoy playing.
As with badges, it isn't for everyone. Unlike badges, I personally enjoy it.

Also, it gives those of us who enjoy farming and/or the market mini-game something to spend all our ill-gotten loot on.

all i have said is that there may need to be a new way or an adjusted way to guarantee certain rewards for time played instead of maybe soon you might kinda someday sorta get a chance to find some we have now

    [/ QUOTE ]

there is a "guaranteed" way to get certain rewards for (very minimal) time played.

    It's called the market.
  20. [ QUOTE ]

You don't like them because they're not some pushover like other factions, say Council?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, I don't like them because some of their powers border on being an I Win button and others do nothing but needlessly prolong battles.

Sappers total end drain isn't fun. gunslingers TPing around the map isn't fun. I haven't experienced it, but this Titan hold with a basically unresistable toxic DoT component doesn't sound fun. Throw in minions with a variety of super annoying powers, and I'll take a pass, thanks.

If you enjoy fighting them, fantastic- I leave you to it.
I find them to be vastly more frustrating than fun.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
I see all of this hate for Malta, why? I love fighting them because they're actually a challenge unlike some mobs in this game. I believe more mobs need to be like Malta, smarter.

    [/ QUOTE ]

they're no more intelligent than any other enemy faction, they just have much harsher powers at their disposal.

if you like 'em, knock yourself out.
I'd rather bail hay than fight Malta.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Ever sence AE has come out, no one does regular missions, or TFs/SFs anymore, can't even get a team to do the new TF/SF that came out today!!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Your personal failures are not the fault of AE.
  23. Malta were already super annoying, un-fun and something I avoided at all costs, so the devs upping their annoyance factor even further doesn't impact me.
