I thought NCSoft bought - not leased - the game engine when they bought CoX in its entirety, and keeping the Cryptic logo around was just part of the deal.
[/ QUOTE ]
correct. -

The simple solution is to add purple rolls in rewards for tickets/merits.
[/ QUOTE ]
they're gonna nerf AE rewards, not bump them up. -
I never run TFs anymore because I don't have enough uninterrupted time.
I'd check them out if I could start them solo.
Not seeing how preventing more players from enjoying content is a bad thing.
Especially now that you can buy Gold Rolls with tickets. -

And yes i don't have a life, i work 4 days a week, on a work day i play for about 5 hours, where as on my weekend i play about 8-13 hours a day
[/ QUOTE ]
I've kitted out the Goat with a ton of good stuff on a new father's play schedule, less than 20 hours a month.
Hooray for the market, which lets me make giant piles of inf for only minutes a day! -

No. CoV is the name of the first paid expansion. The game has always been City of Heroes.
[/ QUOTE ]
uh wrong.
CoV was an expansion, but it was also a stand-alone game.
For quite a while plenty of players *only* had CoV, with no access to Paragon City. -

yah, you gotta do it the hard way- log in and poke around.

now more than ever I am filled with rage about the misleading instructions that led me to create a new CoV account when I bought the game, instead of just adding it on to my CoH account.
>:
[/ QUOTE ]
Get ahold of customer service if its not too late, I did the same thing.
I created a new account for cov and about a month later realized that something was just not right and so I [censored] at them and the transferred over my cov stuff cancelled the account that I created and I went on with time and grade accounted for.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's exactly what i tried to do, but their best offer was "we'll lock all your characters and apply a CoV serial to your CoH account but LOL at giving you credit for time played!"
I'd still be a bit behind the vet reward curve thanks to my post-ED retirement, but I sank over 9 months into CoV that was wasted as far as vet rewards are concerned. -
King's Row is one of my favorite hero zones.
I never go to Boomtown unless somebody makes me.
It's visually boring and full of generic enemies.
Mercy stinks. Dunno who's idea it was to seal off a bunch of the zone behind a giant wall before we get travel powers, but it wasn't the brightest one anybody ever had. -
[ QUOTE ]
just because no one has found it doesn't mean it's not there.
[/ QUOTE ]
It is out there- it's called "Yahoo games".
There is zero incentive to port stuff that's already widely available into CoH to appease someone who wants to play SuperCheckers or whatever.
Run the game in a window, open your browser and run CoH and whatever other games you want simultaneously.
Voila, all the 'mini games' you could ever want, zero imposition on the devs limited time and energy. -
[ QUOTE ]
At first I wanted to argue with this, but then I thought it through some more and realized that you're probably right depending on just how competitive the flippers are and one of the flippers doesn't get driven out when it appears that prices are rising.
[/ QUOTE ]
When two or more flippers fight over a niche:
They need stock, so they pay more.
They have to sell stock, so they price lower.
That's just how it works. -
[ QUOTE ]
that's like saying why build the pyramids.
[/ QUOTE ]
Aggrandizing deceased god-emperors was fine for the ancient Egyptians, but it would be pretty ridiculous undertaking in our modern age. Unless of course they could make it pay.
Undertakings are best fitted to their environment.
[ QUOTE ]
or why go to the moon. or why read a book when you have TV. just sit back and accept what is cause thats what is.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your idea is more like "hey, why can't we read books on the TV? Wouldn't that be great?"
No, it wouldn't.
TV is great for watching shows. Books are great for reading.
They don't need to be combined.
[ QUOTE ]
with that kind of thinking it's a wonder CoX even got to beta.
[/ QUOTE ]
They wanted to make an MMO and they did.
When they realized they needed to add a mini-game to engage their players and increase retention, they added a market, which is a time-tested expansion of the 'grind' formula.
they didn't add an arcade, or a haunted house where you could solve a crime, or a jumping game.
Actually, they did add a jumping game- the Shadow Shard.
And quickly realized their players didn't like that aspect of the zone.
It makes business sense for a game to focus on doing its "thing" as well as it possibly can, not water that core gameplay down by welding on after-market additions. MMOs are about making the grind fun, not providing alternatives. -

play Grim Fandango?
[/ QUOTE ]
no.
[/ QUOTE ]
Your loss.
[ QUOTE ]
do you have a suggestion nether, of something that could potentially work? given your experience you might have some helpful insight.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, if you want to play backgammon or Puzzle Pirates or whatever, play that. The structure of MMOs does not accommodate any style of gamplay other than 'the grind' in this or that form- performing actions to trigger various types of reward.
It's like trying to figure a way to make cars fly. You could eventually kludge together a working hybrid, but why bother? Systems already exist to gratify that urge- they're called "airlines". -
[ QUOTE ]
Speaking of flipping. How funny is it watching the flippers flip each others stuff into the stratosphere where only they can afford it.
[/ QUOTE ]
competing flippers drive prices down.
FYI. -
[ QUOTE ]
games within games.
chess and backgammon are great ideas. play vs another player, or the AI.
of course risk vs reward would be a factor. but that would be a discussion for another thread.
[/ QUOTE ]
Uh, no.
I want dev time put into building CoH, not inventing diversions from the game.
If you like backgammon or chess or poker or whatever, hit Yahoo Games. Heck, you could play CoH in a window and play Yahoo Checkers in a browser. -
[ QUOTE ]
I hope someone has a good idea... but I don't.
[/ QUOTE ]-
play Grim Fandango?
because that kind of thing just doesn't work in the MMO environment. This isn't the genre to indulge your love of puzzles or mysteries or clever solutions. -
it's funny when people think our little play economy has anything but the most tenuous, secondhand connection to the real world.

The point of patch notes is to inform the player base about changes to the game. You would think users of the shiny, new, much-hyped feature would get the same consideration other portions of the playerbase get when some minor aspect of a part of the game they enjoy is changed.
[/ QUOTE ]
As long as there have been patch notes, they've been missing stuff that annoys people.
You aren't being persecuted, sorry. -
This AM I went on an underbidding spree to see if I could get any cheap PvP IOs. Picked up a defense one for a level with no bid history for 500k. Gladiator's Armor?
Not a great one- resist/recharge. But 500k!
Then I re-listed it for much, much, much more. =) -

[ QUOTE ]
The limits of not being able to import any resources and having to confine yourself to everything that's in the game already pretty much killed a lot of my enthusiasm.

Your lack of creativity isn't MA's fault.
[ QUOTE ]
Then patch after patch kept breaking my arc.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just keep chanting the mantra gameplay may change during online play.
And also, cut back on your caffeine intake.
[ QUOTE ]
It's bad enough that we can't import external resources to flesh out our arcs...why are they continually killing the stuff that we had access to?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because wily players figured out how to extract maximum rewards from them. Kinda like the rest of the game.
[ QUOTE ]
What's next?

They're going to keep changing things?
Just a wild guess. -

This is also fun.
Recorded this last night.
The most fun I've had in a long time.

I'm now oddly tempted to try and buy up all the luck charms on the market.

And the true eeeebil of Fulmen's project is revealed! -
My mind has mercifully blurred the details, but the way the option used to be worded made it sound like the "add CoV to your existing account" option would create a seperate CoV account, and vice versa.
Dunno if it was that widespread, but a couple of my friends did the same thing.
Since I wasn't interested in playing my heroes and there were no vet rewards to inspire loyalty to one account or the other, I said "oh well" and rolled up some bad guys.
So I got the 'eternal' badge last night instead of whatever much cooler one I would have had if I didn't screw up. =/ -
I didn't, I closed my CoV-only account, but not before I sunk many months into it.
There were no vet rewards at the time and blue side didn't appeal to me post-ED, so I wasn't really worried about it.
Then they added vet rewards and I engaged in a multi-week wrangle with customer service trying to get them merged so I'd get credit for CoV time played on my CoH account. The best offer they made was to permanently lock all my CoV characters and activate it on my CoH account.
I flipped them the bird, bought a copy of CoV from Amazon for four bucks, sold the Ghost Widow heroclix on Ebay for 15 bucks and got a free month in the bargain.
And I can still visit my villains on that account during reactivation weekends.
