funny story sam.
I had someone ask me for inf in MA the other day, but very politely- "can I please have 30,000 inf to enhance my hero?"
I'd have given it to them except I was AFK and by the time I got back they were all set. -

Quote:Ok, so I have never actually played a blaster past 16 or so and am looking for advice on what is fun and relatively pain-free to play. I want to be able to solo but will mostly play on teams.
What have been y'alls most fun blaster combos?
fire/ice
outrageous amounts of AoE damage, extreme survivability (for a blaster anyway) thanks to /ice. -
Quote:I've got a couple of costumes like that.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for them to accommodate unsupported costume options with Power Customization.
You cant even cross the street without tripping over a dirty cheating hacker, can you? -

Quote:this packs the wallop of a cup of warm milk & honey served up by my dear old maiden aunt."Hysterics," huh? LoL. You don't have a lot of life experience do 'ya? I don't think you know the meaning of a lot of the words you like to throw around. It's ok. Hopefully finishing school will help 'ya out in that department.
Here's hoping you improve- keep being this wrong and you'll get plenty of practice at it. -
Quote:You say ridiculous things, you catch flack for it.Y
Actually, I think Nethergoat is pretty much correct in his assumptions, regardless of whether or not he prefers to provide actual facts other than his written word... But, flingin' insults at me only encouraged me to antagonize him further...
You respond to the flack with hysterics, you get more flack.
I don't have the time or inclination to provide 'proof' for things that are self evident to any rational observer of the game. The sky is blue, water is wet- if you don't believe me, look for yourself. I don't need to write a textbook to make it true. -
Quote:I'm enjoying playing him again even with just frankenslotting, which I didn't think was ever going to happen. I'm hopeful that some optomization will make him, if not the man he used to be, at least on par with other blasters. My first character (and still my favorite) is an AR/Dev Blaster and with good IO slotting he is very powerful. I think Fury's build is probably the best you can do, mine's got a number of places where I sacrificed optimization for "dammit I want this power/slotting"

Quote:You're one of the people who will jump over a gate to get a reward instead of blowing it off. That % gets smaller the more gates or the higher the gates developers construct. How does it apply to me or my friends if we're wanting to IO out both our builds? We're not exactly fitting into that psychology you just explained if we're doing that, are we?
You're still part of the gamer groupmind, you're not off on your own special island of uniqueness.
Quote:I expected as much, since you have no actual proof of what comes out of your mouth. When I see it, I'll shut up. But, if I just see someone stating their personal opinions as "facts," I call BS. Oh, but that's what you're accusing me of, though... Oops... Forgot you were the only one allowed to do this on the forums. My bad.
There is a qualitative difference in the resulting posts, and I trust the community to decide which of us knows what we're talking about and which one of us is fingerpainting on the walls with their own waste.
Back to the debunked points you are so assiduously trying to distract us from:
1: high end IOs aren't aimed at 'average' gamers, their availability to this demographic is meaningless.
2: inf falls like rain in this game, anyone who does want those l337 sets can earn them with very little effort. Anyone, no farming required.
3: very few people bother with dual builds, fewer than that bother putting 'the good stuff' in a dual build. They aren't increasing demand by any meaningful amount. Readers are free to believe your "everyone I know has l337 DBs therefore demand is doubled!" blather if they like- the reality is profoundly different.
4: gamers aren't intended to IO out every character they have with super duper awesome IOs, so it taking "several lifetimes" is meaningless. -
Quote:It applies to you as much as anyone else, sorry. All right, I could get behind this. Doensn't apply to me or any of my friends personally, but I could definitely see how that "psychology" would apply to the "masses."
Quote:Ok, so if I promise to learn how to interpret data, can you promise to learn how to interpret an attack?
Nothing you've said has risen to the level of 'attack'.
You're just some uninformed dude who thinks he knows it all.
Quote:I'll answer the "facts" once I actually see them. So far, it's only word of mouth. From you. Which most DEFINITELY doesn't make it "fact."
I'm not interested in convincing you of anything.
Quote:How does it have "zero" impact if people are buying them for 5 billion? That's an "impact," however minor or light it may be...
Nothing at all.
Zero. Zip. -

Quote:It may be a well populated zone, but the only location where you'll see more than some random team is the BM, and they aren't just hanging out they're buying and selling stuff.Really? Because I've always seen most of CoV's population in Cap au Diable even before Mission Architect.
It's like they purposefully designed CoV zones to discourage public gatherings. -
I agree about the generally claustrophobic feel of CoV- which wouldn't have to be a bad thing, except that the design coupled with the monochromatic color scheme and the repetitious game art the overall effect is more "messy and dirty" than "evil and oppressive".
Plus there are no natural gathering spots ala Atlas Park or Portal Corps, or at least there weren't before the addition of MA (which don't look like they belong in the Rogue Isles at all, haw). -
Quote:I don't care much about badges one way or the other, but it's stupid to degrade the achievement of people who got their the "hard way" by handing them out like candy now.
Things that require no effort have little value.
I'm more annoyed than entertained by the FLOOD of badges I get in MA now for doing absolutely nothing of note.
MA badges are like medals for the Special Olympics- COMPETITOR, I WIN! -
Quote:Your don't need numbers to draw logical conclusions based on gamer psychology.According to... you? Where are you getting these "facts"? Are the Devs posting their actual numbers from the game somewhere I don't know about? Or are you making the bold claim that you see all and know all in the game, based on what you see in the market? And how many people would you say in the game don't use the market? Would you be able to "accurately" post those numbers?
Every minor hurdle you put in the way of the gaming horde eliminates some % of them from moving forward- they just can't be bothered.
There is still endless whining around her about being poor, not being able to get 'the good stuff' etc even though anyone can do it and the market forum regs have been telling everyone exactly how since not long after I9.
Why? Because going to the market and using it is one extra step in the game, and some folk can't be bothered. They'd rather be poor and complain than raise a finger to help themselves.
This ties in directly with dual builds.
IO'ing a character out is a substantial investment of resources- which is why not many people do it. Once you've sunk that energy into a character, the imputes to do it AGAIN is near zero.
Most people have a lot of alts. If they're going to create multiple IO builds, they're more likely to do it on some new alt than to re-IO the guy they've already worked over.
Simple psychology.
Quote:For someone who has so many posts and claims to know the game so well, a lot of what you say seems pretty similar to your own claim of what you're saying I'm doing.
And lol at the post count attack- it's been years since I got one of those.
I thought they were extinct.
Quote:As stated before, and as I'm stating yet again, I. AM. NOT. PERSONALLY. HAVING. A. PROBLEM. WITH. THIS. Dur? Got it now? Or do I gotta break it down in Arkansas-speak? (j/k)
Quote:I'm assuming you meant "hasn't" on the supply of purples/PvP recipes, which is actually what I was referring to in my original post, and also what this thread was talking about.
It has reduced the supply of purples by hoovering up all the farmers.
It has generated a vast wave of supply for set IOs. -
Great stuff Fury, thanks a million!
I especially appreciate your taking the time to post the thinking behind your slotting/IO choices.
For all the marketeering I do, I don't actually pay much attention to set bonuses & how all the IO stuff works together- I generally just pick something that looks fun or thematic and run with it.
the Munitions APP is nicely thematic, so I'll go with that.
And I'll check out Taser next time I get a power- I have snipe now (just because I kinda like snipes) but it's pretty crap & I don't think I'd miss it swapped out for something else.
I love Ignite. The web grenade/ignite 1-2 punch is one of my favorites.
And as you mention, it's gold on teams. And anything other than smashing/lethal is great for AR.
And yeah, money is no object- over the last week or so I've got him nicely frankenslotted & turned a tidy profit at it (he started with under a million & no enhancements, now he's slotted out & rolling with a 30 million inf bankroll). By the time he hits 50 he'll be able to buy whatever he wants. -
Quote:Experience is meaningless unless you can interpret it correctly.Seriously though, it just sounds like we're speaking from our own personal experiences...
Quote:I know when dual builds were released, I wanted to created builds for "different roles" on ALL my toons, and have many friends who are now doing the same.
Very few players bother with high end sets- fact.
Very few players bother with dual builds- fact.
Saying that a tiny fraction of players with bother with a dual build using high end IOs is an entirely reasonable statement.
Quote:In either case, it DID increase demand on the market, while AE DID decrease supply *somewhat*.
You are delusional.
It has tangentially decreased the supply of purples (since the farmers are all in AE not getting purples), but it has generated an unprecedented flood of IO sets on the market.
Keep up this kind of gibbering and you may be the first person on the 'new' forums to make my ignore list. -
Quote:Anyone who watches the market like I do and can see the ripple of different changes to the game reflected in the ebb and flow of what's selling and for how much. So, as of right now, since both you and I are throwing out what we "think," nothing is concrete.
Unless you have some actual numbers somwhere I can check out.
It isn't an exact science, but most marketeers have a pretty good sense of what's going on.
Exponentially better than your ridiculous braying about "twice the demand". -
at the risk of drawing the ire of the person who -repp'ed me for "posting in a PK thread", here are some of my better recent comments.
come on devs...pvp... 08-23-2009 11:27 AM +Rep! I enjoyed your "Wrongferno" comment as one of the best things I've read today.
The perils of... 08-22-2009 02:12 PM What have you done to the real Nethergoat? I never thought I'd ever be giving you, of all people, positive rep. It's armageddon!
No more princess bride... 08-22-2009 01:08 AM you're one to talk about spamming threads you worthless poster

Purps Store Price 08-19-2009 02:54 PM pure hilarity!

And I think that estimate is still wildly optimistic.
-
I've been having a laugh reading their forums.
Between the community chatter and the gameplay footage on youtube, I'm not seeing anything that improves my low opinion of the game or its devs. -
Quote:Perhaps. But, as I said, from what we've been 'told', I see nothing to move people out of AE. As you indicate, 'ambiguous statements' are subject to interpretation.
They don't want farmers in AE.
Their previous punitive campaign to move them out was an unmitigated disaster.
Adding team size to the mission slider is an obvious effort to draw them out by improving the rewards available via 'real' content. It's a feature that will appeal only to farmers and powergamers, there's no point to it except as a lure to get those types of players out of AE.
Don't listen to what the devs say, watch what they do.
The intent behind this move is obvious.
