Highly informative, entertaining post BS.

Quote:and get modsmacked for it since it isn't really anonymous. My prediction is the rep system will be shut down within 30 days. Too many forum members will use its anonymity as an excuse to make personal attacks in violation of the forum rules.
I have a couple of stalkers who follow me around just to pile up the -rep, I have plenty of strong opinions I'm not shy about sharing and am far from diplomatic in my mode of expression, and yet my rep continually grows.
Probably because I don't just antagonize people and gripe about stuff, I also help people make inf and give positive feedback when warranted. -
Quote:Do you think using powers that do a lot of damage qualifies as an "exploit"?I am on the pro-nerfsledgehammer side apparently, but I'm actually curious in seeing some examples of MMOs that leave exploits open and remain unbalanced.
I'm halfway interested in finding the limits of your mania for defining the word.
Quote:This should end the thread right here, in a perfect world. But alas, perfect this world is not.
Sounds tremendously boring to me, but whatever.
Yeah, what else could complaints about freaks giving .8 xp mean?
sheesh.
Quote:Freakshow are easy from the time they start appearing at level 20 until level 50 where they're almost free exp. I've fought them with all ATs and I've never gotten a Freak mission and said, "Ugh..." I have with other villain groups in that range.
They *can* be easy. They can also be a PITA.
And again, at the high levels what faction isn't almost free exp?
Freaks aren't a group I seek out or consciously avoid right now, which feels like balance to me. The farmers disagree, clearly liking that 1.2 exp modifier and their widely resisted damage type.
I can agree they shouldn't be worth more xp than other factions, but I don't agree that they should be worth less. -
here's a great -rep from the guy with such atrocious reading comprehension-
Quote:Read my words and you too can understand what I've said!I think you need to watch and comprehend what you say! because that is what you are saying whether you like it or not. -
this is how out of it I am after enduring a day of 106 degree heat in a workplace without AC:
I looked at the title of this thread and thought "hey, that's a cool idea!"

Quote:Where did I say I don't care about numbers?Translation: I don't care about numbers, except when I do. Which is any time that I'm actually playing the game.
Nowhere.
I don't pay attention to numbers.
But when things "feel" slow to me, I'll look for some other path forward.
Translating works better if you can read and comprehend the source material. -
I don't know how BS plays, but I do a lot of stealthing with my stalker & a boss that takes forever to put down can double the length of the mission.
-
Quote:Protip:Why? See, this is the mentality that I just don't understand. I play the game to play the game. I don't care how fast I'm levelling or what stuff I'm getting, I just ..... play.
I'd never avoid content because of "lesser" XP or seek out content because of "greater" XP, and I just don't understand the mentality of those that do.
Not everyone is you.
I don't pay much attention to numbers, but if an enemy is extra annoying, or under-rewarding for the amount of effort they take to defeat, I'm going to choose a different path when possible.
So will a lot of other people. -
thanks for the input, everyone!
every little bit helps.
financial update: he's approaching level 39 and is nearing 100 million inf in the bank. It looks like he'll have all the $$$ he needs for a super build by the time he hits 50.
In a change of pace for me, he's made the majority of his inf off selling crafted IO drops. There is some absolutely silly profit to be made for a relatively minor investment of time and inf. -

katana/regen is good fun.
Divine Avalanche's +def on top of regen's...uh, regen....is synergy made in heaven.
whoops you already did that.....uh, then go SR!
Defense + Defense = Goodness! -

Quote:Noted and added!I have done this:
Churned out some quick tickets and rolled common midlevel arcane salvage for sale.
I have not done this but it is guaranteed inf:
Use those tickets to buy a currently high priced uncommon or a rare selling for 1 million and sell it. (It really cannot get any easier than that I don't think.) -
we should re-name TheMarket channel to LehmanBros.

I want to compile & document via screenshots a collection of idiot-proof inf earning methods for the absolute market know-nothing.
On board so far are selling your big insps from the tutorial, buying cheap giant insps on the market and combining them into big selling insps (like 3 resists > 1 defense), vendoring high level recipes & underprices salvage, flipping generic IOs, and crafting set IO drops.
What other things have y'all done for inf that literally anyone in the game could do if they were willing to lift a finger on their own behalf? -

Quote:I've always found freaks at the lower levels to be as-or-more annoying than the other factions. Flyers, end drain, status effects, everybody has a self heal, hard hitting bosses. The fact is that Freakshow are laughably easy to defeat compared to other groups at the same level... so you might as WELL be getting free XP.
If you're regen, or something with super high s/l resists maybe they're a breeze, but I've never thought they were.
And lets face it, at high levels pretty much everything is a breeze.
They didn't deserve a high XP modifier any more than they deserve a sub-standard XP modifier. -

It does if the devs think dirty, grubby farmer money spends just as good as clean, sanitized 'casual' gamer money.
And they do.
What they don't want is widespread, super efficient leveling/reward generation, and they will take steps to keep farming behavior from spreading beyond the highly motivated group who pursue it as their primary style of game play.
But they have zero interest in the kind of ideologically driven campaign of extinction you dream of. -
Quote:If the devs reduce their xp too much most players will avoid them.then you should leave earlier to compensate for taking the long way. Its not rocket science.
Not many people pay attention to numbers, but in my experience the 'average' player has a very sensitive radar for content that under-rewards as well as content that over-rewards.
Quote:For me, at any level with any AT, they can be annoying, but not hard.
Should the devs just nerf rewards across the board, do you think? -
to echo an inf making tip many others have posted here over the years, check the recipe/crafted price disparity for your set IO drops.
I'm lazy so I mostly just flip stuff, but I've started playing my long-retired AR/Dev blaster again, with an eye toward kitting him out with the l337 s37s when he caps out. As a pre-inventions character he was poor as dirt when I started so I've been exercising all avenues of wealthbuilding to get him jumpstarted.
His main earner so far has been crafted set IOs generated from tickets or drops. The disparity between recipe and crafted IO can be truly staggering. Turnover is appreciably slower, but if it's something people want it usually sells in a few days and the higher price keeps the per-slot profit high.
He started off with a few million after I respec'ed him and cleaned out his slots. Playing him off and on and being patient I got him frankenslotted while building his bankroll up to around 30 million. Now that his slotting is taken care of the inf is rolling in- crafting recipes that are going for 50k to a few million and selling them for 2-20 million has him closing in on 100 million. By the time he hits 50 he should have enough to finance his dream build. -
Quote:Players will gravitate toward the most efficient reward path. You mean, people were forced to farm Freakshow missions, because the evil devs gave them a too high xp modifier so that the only possibility to stop the abuse of Freakshow missions was to drastically reduce the rewards?
Quote:The word "blaming" suggests that they did something wrong here. The risk/reward ratio for Freaks has been off for quite a while, and this is definitely an easier solution than making them more dangerous. What you see as persecuting an "innocent" segment of the player population, I see as fixing design flaws.
