    hey that looks like fun!

    =D

    and welcome back!

I love it when I can convince other people to do the dirty work. =D

I'll rev up my fire/rad tonight and put together some numbers.

Not everything needs the Full Faultline to be fixed up to a decent level. I do agree that it's kind of a bad choice to have to make with ultimately limited resources though.
I used to be on the gimme new stuff instead of redoing the old junk side of the fence, but lately I've been running through a bunch of launch content with a critical eye, and in the interest of retaining new players it's got to go- either replace it, or re-work it.

As one of those old timers who got bored with the low level game a long time ago and started farming or PL'ing past it I'd actually forgotten how bog-awful it really is. Yes, you can largely avoid it if you know which contacts and zones to visit, but new players don't know that. They get dumped off in Atlas or Galaxy, most likely talk to their origin contact there and are thus cast down into the mire of wretchedly cookie-cutter, ridiculously travel intensive and pointlessly repetitive original content.

With the recent changes aimed at opening up all the game's content to every character regardless of level it seems like a good time for someone to make a pass over the low level launch content. Even if they don't want to trash it and start over, a team tasked with eliminating pointless travel, sprucing up mission text, imposing some varity and eliminating the plethora of idiotic fedex missions would GREATLY improve the experience.

I'm not one to hold the game's age against it on the whole, but I make an exception for the launch content. It wasn't that great 5 years ago, and it's ridiculous and embarassing that it's the first game experience new players are offered in the year 2009.

I'm playing him from a standing start as an experiment.
I retired him before ED so he was almost dead broke in his mid-30's and I wanted to see how much inf he could earn by 50 without much in the way of marketeering, just selling drops and crafting the occasional big ticket recipe.

So far so good, it looks like he'll have all the inf he needs by the time he gets to 50.

Anniversaries must have been in the air- my play time was also gimped by a landmark wedding anniversary.

† Why on +2? Because even when the whole point is mowing down lots of foes, it bores me when it's too easy. My characters are all generally built towards taking on +2/+3 level foes, so anything less gets feels too cheesy.‡
I have one 'pure' farmer (my fire/rad) who grinds greens and blues to a fine paste on a map spawned for 8, but for the most part I agree that challenge makes the endeavor more fulfilling. I've been using the new settings to adjust the challenge level more to my liking- it affords much finer control for a wider range of characters than the old system.

I run my ar/dev at +0/x3. Enough enemies to make me think a bit and make him break a sweat, but not super tough individually (which is aggravating when the bulk of your damage is smashing/lethal).
It's let me make playing him feel suitably heroic (it is a rare spawn where he isn't flirting with defeat) without crossing over into slow-paced tedium.

The utility for farming got most of the pre-release press, but its actually been a bigger help for my non-farmers. Go figure!

checked in last night and while the floor has risen a bit you could still just about double your money on every ten stack.

I didn't get to do much over the weekend. We no sooner returned from our anniversary celebration than my connection went down for an extended period. The Goat blew out a bunch of high priced stuff and is approaching the 2 billion mark- I may yet pass though the gates of true eeebil. Two other marketeer characters crossed the billion mark- I'll get screens when I think of a good spot.

I did pick up a level for my ar/dev who is questing for the ranged def soft cap. He hit 46 with 300 mil in the kitty and a few powers already IO'ed- by the time 50 rolls around he should have what he needs for a shopping spree.

Wish I'd been able to play more, but happy with the results of my limited game time.
  8. My ar/dev loves his snipe.
Surveillance > snipe > Full Auto > wiped out spawn.

From an IO standpoint snipes are great way to pick up a cheap +7.25% global recharge bonus.

And a fully IO slotted snipe is a pretty nifty attack- with enough -interrupt you can throw it out in combat. It's also great for picking off runners, and the extreme range is tactically useful for a soloing blaster.

On a team it rarely gets a workout, which I guess makes it one of those "situational" powers. But I like mine.

I mean I wouldn't kick if they gave it a buff, but IMHO it doesn't really need one.
  9. I didn't get much play time between an anniversary and my connection dying last night.

But it cleared out a bunch of overpriced junk that was clogging up market slots- the Goat is pushing 2 billion now and just about ready to go on a purple buying binge. Another reason to love marketeering- it earns for you even when you can't log in.

I did manage to get my ar/dev a level thanks to finishing off a couple of story arcs. Level 46 now and roughly 300,000,000 in the bank- his dream of softcapping ranged defense will soon be a reality.
  10. they're "done" when I no longer enjoy playing them.

And even that isn't necessarily the end- I recently picked up an ar/dev I retired after ED and have been enjoying his progress. The only reason he survived deletion is because I was so attached to his name & costume.

Of course its a ploy to increase interest.
There's no other reason to say something like that.

And there's no point in pondering its "reality" since Positron is the only one in a position to know what he expected to announce and whether or not it really is different than what they told him he could say.

THIS THREAD IS A HEAD'S UP.
Who cares that the devs didn't hand-deliver the news to you on rose-scented lavender paper?
The forums and the main site are both hosted by NC and are both publicly available to paying customers.

Whining about getting information from one game resource instead of the other one is ridiculous.

Naw, he called you a liar because you told a lie.

Nobody needs to farm to get purples. That's simply not true.
When you publicly proclaim something that isn't true, it's called 'lying'.

Farming is just one of the efficient ways to make the boatloads of inf purples demand.

I've financed purples by farming, I've financed purples with pure marketeering (which is by far the most 'casual friendly' method, requiring at most a few minutes a day), and I've financed them by "playing the game" exactly as defined by legions of have-not crybabies; running contact missions & story arcs.

Do you even have a level 50 character? You don't seem to understand how fast they can pile up inf doing nothing but playing "normally". In the I16 world this is greatly magnified by the new mission settings. Pretty much any level 50 is overpowered compared to the majority of the situations they faced running regular content pre-I16. Now you can tweak things to give yourself a challenge, which also generates better and more rewards, which has the potential to greatly increase their already impressive earning power.

Which gives me an idea- it might be time to resurrect Cat's level 50 earning power thread for a new generation. I'm guessing the new settings will supercharge the earning power of efficient soloists and give most everyone else a pretty big bump.

I haven't done much of anything either (although it's been good for clearing out overpriced junk I didn't want to de-list).

I was just surprised at how fast those bids filled- a LOT of 50's are churning out a LOT of recipes right now.

    2xp observation

    heads up badgers & profiteers-

there are a TON of cheap generic level 50 recipes flooding through the system right now.

Looking around last night I noticed 'flipper prices' in the last 5 of several generic recipes (when you see five 55,902's in a row you know what's up).
I cut in line for a laff, posting a bunch of ten stacks at their price +1 then went off to do run a mission.

Imagine my surprise when I checked back in after my mission to find that ALL my bids had filled. Having nothing better to do with them I ran 'em to the vendor & doubled my money.

But if anyone out there wants memorization badges or is happy making 500k per stack doing vendor runs, check it out.
  17. This is my favorite thread title in a minute, even though I'm not sure exactly what it means.

  22. I'm expecting it to be a delivery of content on par with CoV, but the only thing on my 'must have' list is Fun.

I'm not concerned how they go about delivering it and prefer to not get too caught up anticipating this or that specific feature.

I only marketeer on a few characters, but that doesn't stop the rest from making bank doing nothing but running missions and selling drops.

And it doesn't take much effort above that baseline to rack up tremendous amounts of inf.
Even players who dislike marketeering for whatever reason need only memorize a generic IO recipe or two to join in the extremely profitable fleecing of the sheeple.

I'm not really into min/maxing performance, I just like making inf and spending it. Soft capping requires a type of planning I find tedious (someone else figured out the ar/dev build for me).
