<ul type="square">[*]The RPG base system book, plus some supporting material, will release in October. Again, CoH-only to start. I didn't get a good feel for exactly what all supporting books will be available, but I seem to remember some discussion of the Council.[/list]

I went to Origins with the specific goal of picking up the CoH RPG books, only to find they weren't available. At the con, I pre-ordered the set with the expectation they'd be out by GenCon.
Now, they're saying October. If this is because of printing delays, fine. If it's some marketing scheme to flood the game scene with multiple offerings at the same time, all I have to say is shame on you!
I have absolutely no interest in the CCG. I can't afford and am not really interested in CoV. On the other hand, I've been salivating for the RPG since the announcement came out. And I'm sure I'm not the only one. Why are we forced to wait? If the book is ready for release, put it out!
Holding off the RPG release to have it coincide with other products that have little, or no, relation to it just uses up any goodwill or interest generated by having the dang thing out in the first place.

I see your point, except my thought is that if the comic becomes the first exposure to CoH for some folks, they will be not necessarily pleasantly surprised if/when they log into the game.
Call me an old fogey, but I pretty much gave up on comics during the "darkity-dark" 90's, when every "hero" was either a demon from hell or an ego-bloated superstar whose only distinction as the hero was that it was their name on the cover.
The best concept of "realistic" superheroes, IMO, will always be Busiek's "Astro City". He managed to make the concept work without succumbing to "fin de siecle" nihilism.
To each their own, though. As you stated, I still have the game to enjoy. -

With a good team, it takes around 90 minutes to start and complete any of the respec trials - you really dont have 90 minutes to spare?
Not even on a weekend? Holidays? During a leap year??

How long does it take to organize a respec team? Add that time cost to the actual mission. I have small kids. I have a job. I have a wife. So, the answer is no. I really do not have the 2+ hours it takes from start to finish in one seating. Also, I am not alone in this.

Second that. The "freespec" provided as part of Issue 3 is the first (and probably only) respecification I've had for any of my characters. I'd pretty much resigned myself to the fact that it would not be a feature I'd be able to enjoy. -

Moridin, I think part of the point in saying that the missions are solo content is that given the nature of the dynamic in teams you do not really get to take the time to read and appreciate the story content becasue most teams operate on a go-Go-GO! basis and aren't going to wait around while you read and savor the "content". And the text of that content changes to a summary once the mission is over and you return to contact. If it stays at all (doesn't often in one offs).
Then there is also the fact that in teaming you are not following through just one person's story arc, but whatever mission the team goes after in sequence. Consequently you may wind up doing the same mission multiple times, or if you team a lot, outlevel your own contacts to where you are no longer offered any more missions from that contact, ie: miss out on the game story content available from that contact, presumably including story arcs.
So in that sense, yes, the game content is effectively solo content. More likely to be accessed and appreciated solo.

Not to mention that if you're in a team playing in someone else's mission, you get none of their content. No clues, no info from the grateful hostage you've rescued, no immersion in their storyline at all. All you get is XP. You're essentially playing second-banana in the mission holder's adventures.
OK, slight correction. You can, if you want, pull up the mission description in an info window. That's it. -

Since I found Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series to be incredibly boring and repetitious after about book 4 or 5, I've stopped buying those as well.

Thank you! I'm the only one in my group of friends who thinks this way. I'm not crazy!

Heck, I'm surprised he hung on 'til Book 4. I made it one chapter into Book 3 and said to myself, "Why am I torturing myself? There are much better things to read." Haven't looked back since. -
Roger Wilco!
Hip hip hurrah to Jack and the gang for doing something that no other MMO has been able to do: actually get me to play one and enjoy it!
All together now, in the sacred tongue:

The Council is made up of the Nictus-controlled people, etc, of which Requiem was one from the start. It would appear that him and the rest of his troops decided now was the time to take over.
[/ QUOTE ]
Take over WHAT?
Requiem was already in charge.
I'm really annoyed with the change (though happy that they claim they are restoring the history plaques), and even more annoyed that a repackaging of an existing villain group is being labeled as "new content", but I will say this:
ONE Story Arc or TF to explain the 5th/Council conflict and takeover would be enough to satisfy me. If Statesman, or any other Dev for that matter, posted in this thread saying "there is a story arc/TF that goes into detail about the 5th/Council war" I will be satisfied. I would also (obviously) be satisfied if someone who has actually seen something of this nature on the Test server, says that it is already there.
Another thing of note is that we were promised two things in Issue 3: a council and a war. What we got was a renamed villain group we already had as the council, and a couple of spawns and newspaper articles as a war. There is obviously no turning back on the Council thing, but at least we could ask for more in the "war" department.
War is a big word, it doesn't describe a couple of fights. If all they are giving us is spawns, at least we could get them all over the place (like 4 or so spawns per zone), especially in Steel Canyon, Boomtown, and Brickstown, the three major areas of 5th/Council influence. And it would be nice if they had dialogue that might help explain what is going on, I didn't see any when I watched and fought them in IP.
Striga Isle is very cool, I'm thrilled to finally have alliance chat , and I'm moderately happy with the mission difficulty slider (there should be some way to restore pre-Issue 2 +0 only missions to the low-end game). Just wanted to add some positives in there.

Have you considered that maaaaybe...JUST MAYBE...
There might be an event about it on the live servers?
[/ QUOTE ]
At the risk of contributing to the hijacking of this thread, I started a new character two weeks ago (which for me as a card-carrying "casual" player means I've gotten him to 8th level) and I noticed that, even though he had a Science origin, he was given a number of 5th C missions.
This may be a hint of some upcoming event or not. Take it as you will.
