I'll just wait until PRE GR alts can go to Praetoria. Plus I'm also not in praetoria much right now as the zones just launched and I figure I'll let them do some debugging

    Works for me.

What's that you say? A rogue vigilante, who dons a mask at night to fight crime while using illegal weapons, with no endorsement from local law enforcement authorities, may not be a good role model for young boys?

Incredulity aside, it turns out that even some of the "nicer" comic-book heroes might not be so good for the kids. That's the conclusion of a new study of current superhero movie characters (how does one apply for this job?). The researchers behind the study shared their findings at the American Psychological Association convention this past Sunday. What's most surprising about the results of the study is that it doesn't necessarily vilify all of these powerful characters -- just modern-day superheroes. The superheroes your parents watched and read many moons ago? Those guys were just fine.

Sharon Lamb from the University of Massachusetts-Boston, who spoke on behalf of the study, explained: "Today's superhero is too much like an action hero who participates in non-stop violence; he's aggressive, sarcastic, and rarely speaks to the virtue of doing good for humanity. When not in superhero costume, these men, like Iron Man, exploit women, flaunt bling, and convey their manhood with high-powered guns."

Iron Man, Lamb's example of a modern-day superhero, debuted in March of 1963 in issue number 39 of "Tales of Suspense." In 1979, the Iron Man story went through an arc known as "Demon in a Bottle," which portrayed Tony Stark's (Iron Man's true identity) battle with alcoholism. That storyline was later loosely adapted into the two "Iron Man" movies.
Photos: Movie stills from 'Iron Man 2'

There is a valid point within the research that young boys who don't have real-life role models may turn to their movie idols to compensate for their lack of guidance. Especially considering that a slew of these comic-book demigods -- Peter Parker as Spider-Man; The X-Men -- are themselves considered outsiders in their personal lives. The problem is, of course, that real-life humans haven't been bitten by radioactive spiders or developed mutant powers. As the researchers discovered, this leads to problems when movie marketing can "take advantage of boys' need to forge their identity in adolescence and sell them a narrow version of masculinity."

Lamb's research concluded there are only two types of personalities that today's boys have the option to aspire to: the aforementioned superhero or the cracking-wise slacker. (What, no vampires?)

Doing her best to channel the character of John Bender's dad from "The Breakfast Club," Lamb explains her findings about on-screen slackers thusly: "Boys are told, 'if you can't be a superhero, you can always be a slacker.' Slackers are funny, but slackers are not what boys should strive to be; slackers don't like school and they shirk responsibility. We wonder if the messages boys get about saving face through glorified slacking could be affecting their performance in school. (/quote)

Why can't people let boys be boys and enjoy comic superheroes?
let me guess....Jack Thompson was involved in this survey? This sounds exactly like the inane drivel he would recite.

Except if a hi level character changes to evil they still cannot run newspaper missions in the low level zones. Now if they decide to have it where you can say at L50 run 5 newspaper missions then jump to Ouro and then you can select any of the Mayhems since you ran the newspaper missions that could work.

It's possible it'd follow the standard "no deaths, no temp powers" paradigm but they could easily come up with almost anything to make it harder. As Beefy pointed out this is a trial not a TF/SF so the details of what would make it a "master level trial" could be fairly different.
I'm quite confident that at the very least, the No Death rule would be in place for any and all Mo badges.

Also I can confirm that CoP is indeed bugged as we just ran one and the AV was indeed blasting us through his own shield. Also once his shield goes down and we pound him until the shield is restored, his regen rate seems a bit...high....even for an AV.

And I'm not exactly sure why there could never be a master version of a trial either. *shrugs*

As MMOs age there's always a tendency for the Devs to add increasingly difficult content to challenge top end players. I'd have to say all this negative reaction to the idea of a super-hard challenge (like a mythical Mo-CoP) is more or less shortsighted. If the Devs don't specifically introduce a Mo-CoP it's still fairly likely that we're eventually going to get something equivalent to what that would be like.
I don't think that a MoCop would trivialize the Mo badges, however an MoCop badge based on no one of the 24 people in the trial getting killed would likely be more impossible to obtain then finding the Holy Grail.

Also isn't the CoP still a bit buggy?

To be honest I think the main thing about the Punisher is that he IS a regular guy with utterly no super powers, but is a tactical genius and war veteran. (Captain America has the Super Soldier Serum and his shield as well as being among the world's best unarmed combatants and being a tactical genius.) However by all rights, in the real world such a person would have died from "lead poisoning" from being shot up as much as Frank has been in the comics. Or he'd be permanently crippled from all the broken bones and spinal trauma that Frank has endured.

Plus in the Punisher MAX series, that series does NOT have the sliding timeline and has stated that Frank has been blowing away criminals for the past 30 years, and the MAX series does not have Frank dying and coming back as the Spawnisher or Frankencastle. He is just a normal guy with a lot of guns that just won't stop.

However this brings up the point that since Frank is originally a Vietnam vet (before any possible retcons have been done or the Tom Jane Punisher movie stating he was a Gulf War vet), that Frank in both the mainstream MU and in Max should be in his mid 50's if not 60 years old...........

So, since the MAX series maintains a sense of realism about Frank and his age, that leaves the mainstream Punisher books to work with Marvel's sliding timeline to keep Frank young or do to things to OVERCOMPENSATE for the fact that by all rights Frank should either be too old to keep up his war, or that Frank should be all rights be DEAD a thousand times over.

The things that Marvel could do for Frank in the mainstream books that might work better then Spawnisher or Frankencastle would be:

    1. Frank gets his hands on Nick Fury's Infinity Formula that slows down Fury's aging and keeps him in his physical prime.

    2. Frank somehow gets a dose of the Super Soldier Serum or something similar and becomes enhanced similarly to Captain America

    3. Frank on occasion (but not often) wears a suit of armor possibly based on stolen Stark tech, or at least armors his chest and head with it. Thus he could be like Boba Fett, a walking armored arsenal. Just no rocket pack please, we don't need that to be used against Frank

The Devs may allow having both sets of badges at some point, but that kind of thing is probably of such low priority to them that I'm not going to assume it'll happen anytime soon. *shrugs*
Personally I don't see the problem with allowing characters to change alignments and obtain all 6 respec badges. Granted a character likely wouldn't end up using all six, but still there are those of us that like to collect the shiny objects. My now evil Blaster badge hunter has surpassed the 900 badge count......only a few left.

The only other possible solution I can see is to put the mayhem and safeguard missions into the Ouroborus Crystal.

The Angel of Death thing was such a cheap attempt at creating a Marvel version of Spawn that I call that story the Spawnisher.

Now if Frank were to become a vampire.....nah.

And this is something that I've said in the past as something that Marvel should consider.

Have a plan for the reset of the ENTIRE MU, have a plan for the characters post reset, set certain ground rules about the characters and their lives like marriage and children and then move ahead. Not this "it's magic we don't need to explain it" junk. Joe Q even wanted to use BND to restore Gwen Stacy but legend has it that the writers of Marvel all piled into his office to convince him that would be a bad idea.

The non-Mutant books got a reboot/relaunch with that Heroes Reborn/Return junk thanks to the X-men Onslaught, but the mutant titles don't get it.

Then eventually things get so hosed again that another character needs a private relaunch that will not effect the rest of the MU books: case in point: Spider-Man. Norman Osborn is brought back from the dead to end the Clone Saga and straighten that mess out. Ironically the two downfalls of the Clone Saga were: OVER EXTENSION, and stating that Peter was the clone. All they had to do was say that Ben was the clone and Peter the original and Peter goes off to retire and be a daddy knowing that there is another Peter running around as Spider-Man. Then years later comes the Unmasking and to fix that, Peter an MJ strike a deal with THE DEVIL! (Mephisto was considered as a fix for the Clone Saga but rejected. Go fig.)

And you know what would be a simple way to undo the Unmasking? Mephisto does his little time warp things that we are seeing in OMIT to end the marriage, but Mephisto also plants a simple idea into Peter's head: before the Unmasking he dies his hair blonde (or even red), puts on colored contacts to make his eyes appar to be blue, and even uses some makeup to put a small fake scar on one side of his face. He unmasks and says "hi, my name is Ben Reilly and I've been Spiderman all these years!" Later he tells Tony Stark that the public gets what they want and just in case the registration act collapses, Peter's ID is still safe and so is his family. REAL SIMPLE.

Another character that has recently been trashed so badly that I think his current series will be ending and he'll get a Shadowland mini where is he back to normal: Frank Castle; the Punisher. For those that don't know what I refer to about him being so screwed up beyond recovery; do a Google search with the word: FRANKENCASTLE. Trust me, it ain't pretty.

Marvel could really use a universal reboot that affects all books not just one or two.

  16. Yes supposedly Mephisto is working his magic behind the scenes to have tweaked things so they never got married, but it looks like it will be a joint effort between Dr. Strange, Stark and Richards to do the mindwipe about the unmasking.

Slight clarification: I meant standard CoP, not a MoCoP for incarnate salvage. Also its good that standard runs of the assorted TF/SF's are all that's needed for incarnate drops.

If the MoCoP were based on solely YOUR team not using temps and not being defeated, possibly. But relying on 24 people to not be defeated, with no nukes and no shivans on a broken AV? That dog won't hunt monseuir.
Ok yes, fine is relative and yes CoP needs a little tune up, but nevertheless we need a MoCoP badge like we'd need a hole drilled through our heads.

Now if running CoP helps provide components to craft Incarnate powers like they say the RSF/STF/LGTF/ITF/Khan/CUDA TF/SF's are supposedly able to then that's fine.
  22. Over at Badge-Hunter it shows the three redside respec badges as possible ones to obtain on my now evil character despite it having the three hero respec badges. But I'll presume that to be an error on the badge site.

"Uhm, 'Oh God! Oh God! We're all going to die!"

I liked at the end of that episode as the Doc comments on how he isn't sure how to feel about shooting people and the Shepard's response: "Son, I was there.....you don't need to worry"
