Quote:Superman 1 and 2 despite some flaws as well as studio politicking were good. A bit dated now perhaps but still fun to watch, especially the super fight in Metropolis in number 2.Yeah...it's almost like there hasn't been a truly *good* Superman movie made yet.
Here's hoping that Warner Bros. was taking notes as they observed the Neo vs Super Smith fight in Matrix Revolutions so they can design the super fight in the next big superman movie.
Also I still say that if they really want to beef up the next Superman movie, forget Zod, have Luthor only involved in the background as it were and BRING ON THE HULK.....er sorry I meant DOOMSDAY. Any similarity between those two characters is of course purely coincidental.
-
Quote:Aside from Luthor wanting Austrailia as a reward being a bit odd, for a man who is the self proclaimed greatest criminal mastermind on Earth, he was an idiot when he approached Zod in Superman 2.Didn't they already do that in Donner's part 2. Luthor helps Zod and he gets a small coastal property called Australia in exchange.
I'm kind of meh on Zod as the villain that Kal-El faces off against. Superman vs. Luthor I wouldn't mind seeing again, the others that were mentioned would probably do better in a sequel. Also as mentioned skip the origin. It's pretty much been ingrained into the pop culture world. So there's no need to tell something that people already know.
He thinks they won't kill him because he can give them the son of Jor-El......Luthor you are an idiot for thinking that Zod wouldn't keep his word.
Now what Luthor should have done is what he does in Superman Returns, does some research and locate some museums that have certain shiny green rocks in their meteor collection and steal some and THEN approach Zod knowing that he has some literal life insurance. Also I can't see Luthor wanting to share Earth with Zod and by killing the three Kryptonian villains himself, Luthor would come out the hero. -
Quote:Superman and Green Lantern should take care of that. This is so what I am hoping for... I really, really want a good heroic superhero movie and there is probably no better character to pull it off than Superman. I want a brightly-coloured hero, doing good, making the right decisions, saving people, inspiring people and not killing the bad guys.
As I mentioned in the Smallville thread, when they rebooted Star Trek, one of the things that Abrams said he liked was that it was a positive, hopeful view of the future and that he felt that was something that was needed in the real world at this time. I agree. With all the negativity, fear and hate in today's world, I am aching for a hero that stands for something more than vengeance and punishing evil doers in a sadistic manner.
Hm, think Superman will get to beat up a mean bully truck driver again? That was perhaps the most hilarious part of Superman 2 for me when he pays that guy back for humiliating him in front of Lois. Shows that Superman is human in terms of feelings and emotions in a way. -
Quote:The thing here is that Zod was used once, long ago in a movie that changed directors midstream as well as some other setbacks......I agree with all of this but especially the second part. There are so many great villains to choose from. Let's not reuse the ones that have been done already.
Seriously, if you haven't seen it go get the Richard Donner version of Superman 2.
Zod is also one of the few enemies that can match Superman in a fight. So if its a choice between Luthor in another stupid real estate-terraforming scheme or Zod being recycled then I say....
....................KNEEL BEFORE ZOD! -
Quote:I'm hopeful that we won't get another origin story. I think Superman's origin is well-established enough in popular culture that we can skip it for this movie. Maybe have a few references to Krypton exploding and him coming to Earth if you really have to, but not another whole movie.
Just have a paragraph of text at the beginning that capsule summarizes his origin. By now every generation of Superman fan should know it. -
Quote:Hm, looks like they want to have General Zod show up.Not sure if it's been posted yet but it looks like Zach Snyder is tapped to direct the new Superman movie.
Was kind of hoping for Brainiac and/or Doomsday.
Ah well.......... as long as the new Zod at least once does the classic line; "KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!" -
Quote:This. This more then anything is why I think humanity is not ready for the stars. Technology to get us to the stars being the next thing on the list.
I think if we went to the stars in our present state with everything we let divide us today, it would just be a case of a matter of time before distant cousins of humanity found an excuse to pick a fight. Sadly.
When we learn to stop killing each other over money, lust for power, or religion (especially ones that are badly translated or deliberately misinterpreted), then we can look to the stars. -
For capes and auras, if you have the magic booster pack you get the cool cape right away at L1 and then unlock the traditional capes at 20. As the L20 cape quest is a "prove yourself worthy" type of quest, I'd rather not see it become a global unlock.
Auras: Combat aura and now the Alpha and Omega auras are available at level 1. Since the L30 auras are meant to be a power boost of sorts for hero (an adrenal booster installed near your heart at the tailor shop) or proof of being a Destined One on redside, then they shouldn't be a global unlock.
Anniversary Badges: oh yes, these should be a global unlock without a doubt. Also however there should be a way to get ones that might have been missed. After all sometimes RL interferes for long stretches of time and you may miss the log in period to get the badge.
However we already have an ingame precedent: every Winter Event we can craft badges from the current and previous events, including the login badge from the previous years. As Winter Event login badges are strictly speaking a "Winter anniversary" badge, then the precedent is established and the devs could add the main anniversary badges as craftable badges during the Winter Event. Thus for a whole month or so, players can accumulate enough candy canes and inf and craft a lost anniversary badge they may have missed. Make these badges account based and then once crafted for one character it will cascade to all present characters and future characters on the account.
Also I disagree that the 5th column gladiator badge should be tied to an anniversary badge. Now that we have the Khan TF and Barracuda SF, can't that badge be tied to the badge you get from winning either of those? -

Quote:Well could it be any worse then the recent attempt at rebooting the Bionic Woman? If DC had depicted Wonder Woman as a proper Amazonian princess, she'd be an Ares worshipping man-killer, capable of intense violence and probably out to destroy the hated Greeks once and for all.
The DC version of Amazons is ridiculous and silly, and leads to the murkyness that CaptainFoamerang was talking about.
But I digress...
I really just hope the show doesn't suck, but I'm sure it will.

Quote:I liked how in the credits of Spider-man 1 the old tune was inserted. Or in JLU we had an episode of WW in civilain attire then doing the spin-transform.I'd love to see an homage to the funk-tastic 70's themetune in a tv series. Maybe Diana in trailing a suspect to a nightclub where its 70's night and the tune is playing with dancers spinning round with their arms outstetched.

Kinda like how the old Spidey tune was paid homage to in Raimi's Spiderman 2 with the Chinese female busker plucking away on the violin to the 70's spiderman tv theme and Peter Parker looking at her with a bemused expression. -

Quote:I blame Fox for Dollhouse' demise more then Dushku, that being said she could stand to sharpen her acting skills a bit.We want people to actually watch the show.
None of the three have proven they can act. Dushku has been given the lead role in a TV show more than once and none hung around for that long. Hell, backed by even Whedon, Dollhouse lasted two seasons and even the second season felt like a gift. -
Quote:There's also producers, directors, marketing people, corporate execs sitting in chairs somewhere the decide the show's budget, sponsors....Twilight was written by a woman.
You mean guys like
Anne Collins (12 episodes, 1977-1979)
Barbara Avedon (2 episodes, 1976)
Barbara Corday (2 episodes, 1976)
and yes I'm aware that the other 15 writers the show had over the years were guys, The point is that you can't lay the blame solely on guys.
Many to blame.

Quote:Agreed. While I wouldn't mind it if a new show was set in WW2 since that is where the character first started all those years ago, and its always fun to see Nazi's getting kicked around, I would hope at least for a better portrayal of the character this time around regardless of the era they set it in.Well i can't speak for Twilight because i have nor seen it (although am aware of the derision aimed at it). Re: WW the 70's series, you've only got to watch some of the episodes and it won't be long before you come across a cringe-worthy moment that was so ingrained in seventies filming re: the portrayal of women. Its not intentionally written so... but it was written by guys in the seventies and it just falls prey to it time after time.
Of course it wasn't so obvious then to audiences & only in retrospect and looking back from a cultural viewpoint you can see how dated the show is. A new WW Tv show would require an entirely fresh treatment for the character to work.
Also as a nice way to bridge the old series with the new, get Lynda Carter to play Hyppolita (sp?), and perhaps even have her make a reference to how she did things back in her day as WW.... just an idea. -
-
Quote:Oh no offense taken. But let's face it, I think it's safe to say that the majority of guys that watched the old TV series were not interested in the dialogue and FX and at times campy humor. One post and we're full-circle back to the ingrained 70's sexism that has had the character in limbo for so long.

(by the way thats not aimed at you Nericus, more an observation of the style of the 1970s show and how.... or if... the character can be moved on from Marston's 1940s origins).
Linky.
And it's safe to say that most guys watching a new series will also not be interested in dialogue and story. -
Quote:Was the old Lynda Carter Wonder Woman series watched for the wonderful acting, and great FX?We want people to actually watch the show.
None of the three have proven they can act. Dushku has been given the lead role in a TV show more than once and none hung around for that long. Hell, backed by even Whedon, Dollhouse lasted two seasons and even the second season felt like a gift.

Quote:My main point is how many of George's silliness in the prequels were due to changing times or his own ideas?eh, most of those types of changes wouldn't be due to parents groups, but because of George himself. remember, this is the guy who changed the Cantina scene so that Greedo shot first because he didn't like the idea NOW that Han blew the green mook away. and why was Anakin so blasted young in the first place? was there seriously ANY reason that he had to be a 9 year old runt? you're right, some thing have changed, but other folks have managed to produce quality films aimed at children and at families without having to stoop to the crap George did.
As to Han vs. Greedo, some of my relatives are lawyers and some of them are old Star Wars fans. They laugh at George's stated reason of making it look more like self defense. -
Quote:I can definitely agree that the prequels did some pandering to the audience, but one small thing to mention in George's defense: times have changed and rules of content and the rating system have undoubtedly changed since 1977.right, the guy put together a type of movie that hadn't been seen by anyone in a while and actually treated it seriously. something no one at the time was willing to do for a special effects movie. sure, dialogue was stilted and the story was simple. but he was shooting for a straight forward, iconic story, and that's what he got with the first one. then other writers, directors, and other creative types came along and helped evolve that concept for the other two movies. they had their own themes, and they did it well. even with bringing in the ewoks (which i still have no problems with. yub nub *******!) it didn't feel like he was treating the audience like children. there are folks who were teens/adults when the first trilogy came out, and surprise, surprise, they have a lot of similar gripes when it comes to the prequels as the folks who first saw the OT when they were kids.
sure, the movies appeal to kids, but they didn't pander to them like they were idiots. then came the prequels.
ive got my gripes, by the force i've got lists of them. but im not going to be putting any of the three of them on a 'worst movie list' anytime soon. most blown and wasted potential list perhaps. to me, there's too much in the movies that just isn't entertaining, and is just jarring when you consider they're supposed to be plugged in before the original trilogy.
How much of some of the silliness or pandering in the prequels was forced upon him by the rules of the industry? Case in point: at no time in Phantom Menace did young Anakin wield a blaster or a lightsaber as you just KNOW that the parents out there would freak out over the sight of a kid with a weapon in his hands. Yet somehow the rules allow it for Anakin to get stuck in a starfighter and manage to blow up the enemy battlestation.
An example of parent groups forcing a change to a movie due to a kid with a gun in his hands: Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Last minute changes had to be made to pacify the parent groups. Luckily they released the original version later on.
Not to mention all the uproar back in the day when kiddies were all "traumatized" at watching Optimus Prime perish on the big screen, and brought back later as an undead Optimus in the series only to get allegedly destroyed at the end. Return of Optimus Prime was a huge retcon to pacify fans and parents. -
Quote:That's too bad, I liked Peter Fonda as the devil. I'm guessing though they want someone to play the devil for more action and combat scenes as likely we are getting the Rider vs. the Devil in this.looks like Peter Fonda won't reprise his roll as Lucifer/Satan for GR2.
also a plot is reveled.

Suggest waiting to reconstruct him until after issue 19 arrives as Fitness is supposed to turn into an inherent power pool.

Quote:Splinter of the Mind's Eye was and still is a fun read, but as it was written between Ep 4 and 5, long before Yoda was brought in to train Luke or any hint that Vader was Luke and Leia's father, the story must be taken with a rather large grain of salt.He he I haven't read Darksaber in a long time. The mental imagery of giant slugs in floating cans was too horrific.
I wonder now tho if any one ever realized the collation between Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and...

Look on the bright side Insted of I, II, and III we could have had a "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" movie!
In that story a PRE-Yoda trained Luke is able to face Vader and fight him in a pitched battle in which Vader wasn't holding back and Vader and Luke were basically punch drunk at the end. The only thing that saved Luke was Vader stumbling and falling into a pit. Luke then collapsed and died only to be restored by the Kaiburr Crystal which he then used to restore Leia. The only thing that makes this fight plausible that before the fight Luke stated that he was Ben Kenobi, which rattled Vader's calm for a moment. Now that this story has been shoehorned into the EU its stated that Obi Wan was in fact possessing Luke to guide him in the fight as well as help unlock his Force powers, and that the Crystal lost its powers after being taken from the planet......ugh. Splinter should remain in its own pocket universe away from the rest of the EU, its a bad fit.
The young Han Solo trilogy part 3 did make reference to the three Han Solo books, Star's End and the others but it was brief. Wise choice. -
Quote:I have all six as well and enjoy them despite the flaws that all six have. Granted the prequels had a few more flaws then the classics, but still.....Or... you know... There are millions of us who actually love the prequels and don't see it as anything "wrong"!!

Still.. I always think... It must suck to have been a Star Wars fan and not truly like all the Star Wars movies. I have 6 Star Wars movies I can sit and enjoy. I love them. Yahooo!
