Nice announcement.
3 other Villains helms to complete the collection in icon. as for the question of the recycling of prievious Vet powers vs adding new and or the natural being uber with two ranged attacks, Um No.
Being able to select Axe over Sands was always an animation issue both are great powers.
Staff is for Natural Tech and Science to get bonus
Wand is for Magic and Mutant to get bonus
Natural doesn't get to double dip any more than any other AT set who could chose both for ranged, but only one of the items would get the bonus damage for matching your AT.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually if memory is working right:
Science/Tech/Natural =Nemesis Staff buff
Mutant/Magic/Natural =Black Wand Buff
So yes Natural can "Double dip"
Edit: here's the text from the Vet Reward Page for the 33 month badge that offers Nem/Blackwand choice:
"The Nemesis staff is a steam-powered staff that shoots bolts of energy that deal damage, and knocks back foes. Characters of Science, Technology, or Natural, origin get a bonus to their damage when using this power. Damage: Moderate. Recharge: Long.
The Blackwand is a black metal wand that feels cold in the hand, and glows with dark arcane energies. It decreases the chance enemies will hit you when they are affected by its magics. When used by those of Magic, Natural, or Mutant origin, it increases the potency of its attacks. Damage: Moderate. Recharge: Long." -
[ QUOTE ]
Well this is a nice plus for all those that didn't pre-order either CoH or CoV however I will now think twice about any pre-ordering incentives given in the future. I mean what is the point of ordering early just to have your bonus taken away at a future date?
Oh I wouldn't get to cozy with those nice Vet powers either as it seems they are Temporary Powers anyway. I imagine they will go sometime in the future as most TEMPS do.
[/ QUOTE ]
These are perma versions of the temp powers. Only way they'd leave is if they strip the vet badges or if there is a massive malfunction.
As to being steamed at all about having the preorder helms now avail via vet rewards, that was the point I was trying to make. The game has been out for many a year now, and those that preordered still have their shiny preorder helmet. Now those helmets are becoming a long term vet reward that very few will be getting any time soon.....
So still not seeing the issue. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, in one respect, I'm glad to see the vet rewards continue, but at the same time, I feel a bit underwhelmed that the developers aren't getting at all imaginitive with new rewards. Recycled rewards just isn't getting me excited...Thank you, but meh...
[/ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't mind seeing a few new ideas as well, but eh. Vet rewards don't make or a break a character.
Perhaps a Vet Badge that also gives a perma boost to regen/recovery? Not too high of a boost of course -
[ QUOTE ]
*drool* I can't wait for the 54 month badge! I still got a ways to go though...at least another year I thinkOh well. Having the Nem Staff AND the Blackwand?!
I love it!
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes but dont forget your origin provides a buff for only one of the 2 items...unless your origin is Natural..... -
[ QUOTE ]
Interesting.
3 vet attacks at lvl 1.
Wow.
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed, many a level 1 will have a nice time getting through their growing pains.
And to the future complainers about the preorder helmets now becoming available.....so what? The Preorder versions weren't customizable and as I recall it was one preorder code per account and hence only one helmet in the first place.
I don't see any big deal at all about the preorder helms becoming available for long time players at all -

Can someone else give this one a try? I'm getting "forum not found".

Hm tried the link in the OP as well as in the message from Ex that has the link as well and neither work. -

Whee! More tailor tokens.
I've not changed my primary costumes since I started.

Be that as it may, considering tailor shop prices at times I'll take the tokens -

Possibly the easiest way to get the missions done safely is to take them at 45 and have a level 50 come along to complete them. Not exactly fun, but Pither doesn't value fun, he values efficiency!
[/ QUOTE ]
Mileage varies. To me you are better off soloing these unless your toon is uber squishy or not built that well since those that aid you don't get the badge from it.
However yes he does indeed value efficiency which is why its important to remember which of his missions is the kill-all. Once that one is done, it's mostly speed and stealth to get through the others. -
[ QUOTE ]
Shouldn't you be putting these links in the first post where you have place holders?

Figured I'd wait for a few more guides to come in first. -

Anyone know what time the invasion ends on Thursday the 19th? Is it Friday AM Maintenance?
Was hoping to get one more accolade completed tomorrow night if the Rikti are still landing.
Thanks!

Traditionally events like Rikti Invasions and Holiday Events start and stop with server maintenance. Keep on hunting -

I most definetly had the option for dropping a Pither mission when I did it. This was shortly after dropping came about, when it was seven days between drops.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes but I beleive it was later changed so that timed missions couldn't be dropped. Still I'll be running more Test runs of Pither's missions and then I'll know -

Summary: Failing One of the time missions and winning the others still awarded the badge.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is good information. On the kill all timed map, I cleared the map in 8 minutes, but could not find the blinkie in the remaining 22 minutes (yes, I maxed out my volume to find the bomb by sound with 8 minutes to go). I gave up on running Pither's other missions after that, but may go back and finish based on this information.
I had not used auto-complete a mission in over 2 weeks, but was not given the option to drop the mission when I got frustrated over the blinkie I couldn't find, BTW.

[/ QUOTE ]
Well as I recall, timed missions cannot be dropped at all.
Also I must again stress that I'm running these Pither arc tests on TEST Server, not the LIVE Servers. While Live should be the same as Test, results may vary. Go ahead and run the other missions and keep your hopes up
Also I'm running a couple more Test runs of Pither in the near future to Test a couple more scenarios. -
Something else I've noted of late about Mission 3
The First, Second, Fourth and Fifth (Requeim) Generals can be killed while leaving their guards alive and they usually count towards the mission objective being met.
The Third General, the one with all the Minotaur and Cyclops around him however always seems to be one where both he and his entourage must fall for the kill to count. Also killing all the Cyclops and Minotaur spawns an ambush. -

Ex, I don't know if this is worth a mention, but the Kismet unique is listed in-game as "Kismet: +6% accuracy" while it actually provides a tohit boost. Perhaps the OP could be updated to include that as well?

That was long ago changed. -

Hmm or here's a wild idea.....maybe the IO is "broken" or "not working as it should be"? So how about you send your data off to Lighthouse and Tech Support and have them make a note to check the IO?
[/ QUOTE ]
It has previously been /bugged and brought to Dev attention. It is on my list of things to re-poke Castle about, but it is not the only item on that list.
None of that changes how it currently works though, and the current behavior is what people will get in the game, regardless of how we want it to work. I am glad to see that your guide now is more in line with the current behavior of the IO.
[/ QUOTE ]
Glad to hear that you are sending it/have sent it to Castle. As for the rest of the guide....yes your "approval" means ever so much to me. -
[ QUOTE ]
I figured I'd just show how the Aegis Mez resistance currently works.
First, theory (skip to the shiny green link if you are not interested in the theory):
It has been my claim that the Aegis IO grants a 5% Mez Resistance when the power it is slotted in is activated, stackable up to 5 times.
This is the effect of Mez Resistance in CoH:
New_Duration = Base_Duration/(1+Mez_Resistance)
This means that we can get the reduction in duration this way:
Duration_Reduction = Base_Duration - New_Duration = Base_Duration - Base_Duration/(1+Mez_Resistance)
or
Relative_Duration_Reduction = 1 - 1/(1+Mez_Resistance)
(this is what the Combat Numbers window shows. Well, the negative of it)
How much would the duration go down with n 5% Mez Resistances stacked?
With one 5% Mez Resistance (total 5%), we'd get a mez duration reduction of:
1 - 1/(1+.05) = 4.76%
With two 5% Mez Resistances (total 10%), we'd get a mez duration reduction of:
1 - 1/(1+.05*2) = 9.09%
With three 5% Mez Resistances (total 15%), we'd get a mez duration reduction of:
1 - 1/(1+.05*3) = 13.04%
With four 5% Mez Resistances (total 20%), we'd get a mez duration reduction of:
1 - 1/(1+.05*4) = 16.67%
With five 5% Mez Resistances (total 25%), we'd get a mez duration reduction of:
1 - 1/(1+.05*5) = 20.00%
When the Aegis unique (activate period of 10s) is slotted into a toggle like Tough (activate period of 0.5s), we would expect it to give a 5% Mez resistance when that toggle is activated, and then an additional 5% Mez Resistance every 10 seconds after that, up to a total of 25% Mez Resistance.
So in such a situation, we would expect the Aegis to give a 0% reduction in Mez duration before Tough is activated, a 4.76% reduction in Mez duration when Tough is activated, a 9.09% reduction in Mez duration 10 seconds after Tough is activated, a 13.04% reduction in Mez duration 20 seconds after Tough is activated, a 16.67% reduction in Mez duration 30 seconds after Tough is activated, and a 20.00% reduction in Mez duration 40 seconds after Tough is activated.
Here is what happens when I activate Tough (about 14s into the video, 2nd tray, position 9), slotted with the Aegis unique:
Video
The text is a bit fuzzy, but it should be readable.
By now it should be clear that the Mez Resistance that the Aegis unique gives is not always on, and I would suggest that you change that part of the guide to reflect that, since the current version is directly misleading. If anyone were to slot the Aegis Unique into something like Unstoppable believing that they would always get the bonus to Mez Resistance, they would actually not receive any bonus to Mez Resistance until they actually use Unstoppable, and they would *very* rarely see the full 25% bonus to Mez Resistance.

I actually meant getting the mission, and when it becomes clear you can't win it, Calling Pither and using the drop mission option to autocomplete. That's what I was going to do some time ago, and the option to drop mission was there, but as it turned out I finished them all anyway.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well none of the test toons used could auto complete since we were all still within our 3 day waiting period.
Also ran a third test run, completed the first mission and let the others fail, No Badge. -
[ QUOTE ]
Unbelievable. I joined a PuG with my 47 FIre/Rad cor and actually failed. The level of stupidity was astounding.
Our /Kin troller never SB'd anyone. I never asked for it. On the last mission he SBd Imperious and no one else. I asked him. He said "Imperious asked for it and no one else did." Well then... "may I have speed boost all the time please."
We had two blasters who could not focus fire on romulus.
The concept of "Shoot Romulus" Escaped the team.
The concept of "If you are a squishy don't stand in the AoE Nictus damage" escaped the team.
The concept of "Pull" escaped the team.
A 41 Dominator insisted we had to kill the Nictus first.
It was terrible. I stand by my claim that any competent team can accomplish this.
[/ QUOTE ]
aye u truly had a bad team on that one. -
[ QUOTE ]
Last time I got the badge you could drop the missions if you got into trouble. Is this still the case?
[/ QUOTE ]
Unknown. I've heard too many mixed reports about people losing a mission and not getting the badge and others that lost a mission and still got the badge.
All my toons that can access Pither have obtained the badge via winning all the missions.
IF this arc were to be added to Ouroborus then I could send newer alts into it via Ouroborus and test losing missions to see what happens.
EDIT: Turns out I had an old copy of a toon on Test Server, and that copy could still get Pither. Pither immediately started his timed missions so I didn't need to bother with his non timed arc.
I received the first mission and let it fail. I then proceeded to repeat that with all the other timed missions. Failed them all, did NOT receive Efficiency Expert Badge and Pither will no longer speak to my character, thus my character cannot get the Alone in the Darque arc from him.
Note: will do what i can later to try and test again by failing one mission and winning the rest to see if there is any margin for error given by Pither, however I doubt there is. Still its worth checking.
EDIT #2 Ran arc again on Test with a Pal of mine, we let the 15 minute mission fail since it was the shortest timed mission then proceeded to win the rest of the missions; end result: He Got the Badge -
[ QUOTE ]
There is only one thing I noticed in this that I'd tweak (There may be others, I'm about to go to bed so am a bit out of it): There is a point to teaming. Find a friend that you can trust to have a solid internet connection and not do something to screw you over, and they can not only aid you in ghosting when the mission has it but if you lose your connection they'll be sure the mission won't reset on you.
They won't get the badge, but they can help ensure you do. You can repay them for the favor when they want to get it themselves. A duo on Villainous still shouldn't encounter any bosses that would give them a problem, as well.
[/ QUOTE ]
Already covered that in the Tip I inserted at the end of the Efficiency Arc. -
Efficiency Expert Badge Arc
This is a series of timed missions that once completed award your villainous character the Efficiency Expert Badge.
These missions are not impossible , but a few can be a bit tricky, so this guide is to show you the missions and some of the quickest ways that they can be done.
Things to note:
<ul type="square">
1. Pither does not offer the timed missions in any particular order.
2. The mission doors usually are not far from where HE is at, but be prepared for some traveling since once you can call him you might find the mission door far from where YOU are at.
3. You must be at least level 45 to get Pither as a contact but recommend you be at level 50 and thus at full power in terms of power selection and slotting before you run these missions.
4. There are mixed reports about this: some say if you fail one of his timed missions you will not get the badge. Some say they failed one or even all of them and still got the badge, while others state they failed one or two and never gained the badge. Recommend you do not fail any of these missions, deliberately or otherwise.
UPDATE! as of June 11, 2008!
Turns out I had an old copy of a toon on Test Server, and that copy could still get Pither. Pither immediately started his timed missions so I didn't need to bother with his non timed arc.
I received the first mission and let it fail. I then proceeded to repeat that with all the other timed missions. Failed them all, did NOT receive Efficiency Expert Badge, Pither did not give me his number either so I couldn't even call him from afar but had to see him in person for each mission, and Pither will no longer speak to my character, thus my character cannot get the Alone in the Darque arc from him.
Summary: failing ALL the missions results in No Efficiency Expert Badge
UPDATE #2 June 11, 2008
Ran the arc again on Test with a Pal of mine, we let the 15 minute mission fail since it was the shortest timed mission then proceeded to win the rest of the missions; end result: He Got the Badge
Summary: Failing One of the time missions and winning the others still awarded the badge.
UPDATE #3 June 12, 2008
Completed the first timed mission, failed all the others. No Badge rewarded.
Please note that this was on Test Server however I have no reason to believe you'd get a different result on Live Server. You want to risk it on live server? Go ahead, but I'm not responsible at all if you don't get the badge
5. These missions AT THIS TIME are not available in Ouroborus. This may or may not change in the future.
6. Not all of these missions are kill-all's. Some of them have specific objectives that once completed will end the mission.
7. There is no point in teaming for these missions as only the mission owner will get the badge. Your teammates would have to run their own missions from Pither to get the badge for their characters and of course bigger team size means bigger enemy spawns and tougher bosses and you can't really spare the time.
8. Once you get one of these missions from Pither, the clock has started. The exception to this is the two part mission in the arc as part one isn't timed. Once that clock starts, waste NO TIME, GET GOING
Things to do before starting these missions:
<ul type="square">1. Be sure you have some form of Stealth or Invisibility power. Example would be the Combat Invisibility power from patrolling Siren's Call and also have the Hyperphase temp power from patrolling Warburg. Or else use the empowerment station in your base to grant yourself some invisibility. Unless of course you are a stalker or someone that took the Stealth power pool
2. Set yourself to Villainous. This is due to the one time only nature of this arc. Fail any mission and you risk never getting the badge, so set yourself to Villainous to make it as easy on yourself as possible.
3. Don't panic when you run these missions. They are not impossible, just keep a cool head.
4. Stock up and Orange and Purple Inspirations and have a couple break frees.
5. After completing one mission, before you speak to Pither for the next one, restock your inspirations and if necessary be hit your base empowerment station for more invisibility.
Now for the Missions:
Kidnap Diocletian - 30:00
Mission Briefing: The Council is working with a retired US Army general, who they have code-named Diocletian. Our wiretaps have just uncovered his location is in a building here in Grandville. We must know what he knows; his intelligence is priceless to Arachnos. I have tasked you to go and kidnap Diocletian and bring him to the waiting hands of Arachnos. We have a very short extraction window, so you'd best hurry up. You have 30 minutes to complete this mission.
The Council won't risk harm to Diocletian, but I can't say they won't be gunning for you.
Standard Council map, if you have invisibility then ghost through the map to the target. Once you find the target, free him and battle your way out, or once you find him you could backtrack your route to the mission door, then fight to him and bring him out. There usually are no ambushes once you have him, but move fast anyway. You have 30 minutes to complete this mission. This is NOT a Kill-All.
Beat up Fortunata Iverson
Mission Briefing: I've been going over the books, and one of our bases has been underperforming dramatically. I suspect it's because the supervisor there, one Fortunata Iverson. I suspect the Fortunata is sandbagging Arachnos projects while her team is helping out one of our enemies. I need you to go and have a 'talk' with Iverson and find out who she is really working for. And by 'talk,' I mean go beat some sense into her. Once you have learned who she is working for you will have a very limited amount of time to exact our brand of vengeance on whoever she is directly dealing with. This is a two part mission; part two is a 30 minute timed mission.
Remember, once you have the information from Fortunata Iverson you will have only 30 minutes to wipe out that base.
Ok this is a two part mission and part two is timed. For part one, infiltrate the base then locate and take out Iverson, thats it for part one as it is not a kill all. The instant you exit part one the countdown has begun for part 2, so you have 30 minutes to wipe out the base completely and of course you will have to travel to the mission door so be fast when you travel. Part 2 is a kill all and a bomb glowie to click. No ghosting possible, just kill anything that moves. Beat this mission and congratulations you have just defeated the one and only kill all mission in this arc.
Kick Longbow out of base - 30:00
Mission Briefing: I've just received word that Longbow has captured one of our bases here in the Rogue Isles. Arachnos has clamped down on computer access to systems outside the base, but we need to send someone inside to sever the connection before they can upload the database to a Freedom Corps server stateside. Make sure that whatever heroes those Longbow jerks have with them don't make it back either. They will be done uploading the database in 30 minutes, so you'd best hurry up. You have 30 minutes to retake the base.
They have just started the upload, so you have 30 minutes to sever the connection and take down those Longbow heroes.
Ok you have 30 minutes to complete this mission however this is not a kill-all. There are 4 glowies and 2 bosses to take down along with the mobs around the bosses. Glowie location varies but the last 2 are usually at or near the 2 bosses. Recommend invisibility to ghost to the glowies then decloak to battle the bosses.
Get info about Malta - 30:00
Mission Briefing: Lord Recluse is interested in this Malta group that operates out of the Mediterranean. They have established a base here in Grandville without Lord Recluse's permission. They are using an old abandoned warehouse as their staging area, and I need someone with skill to go in and extract as much information as possible, from their computers and from their leaders. Of course, nothing is that simple. Lord Recluse demands that he have this information within the half hour. You will have 30 minutes to complete this task.
There are four computer files we need, along with the information held by two of their leaders in that base.
This is not a kill-all. There are 4 glowies and 2 bosses. Glowie location varies; bosses are on different floors of the map. Get all four glowies and kill the two bosses to end this mission.
Steal formula - 15:00
Mission Briefing: You know why I was hired by Lord Recluse? I got results, and I didn't get results by relaxing in a hammock and sipping drinks with frilly umbrellas. Results require action, and action requires you get out and actually do something for a change. I have a job for Lord Recluse. He needs the formula that Crey has been working on for their Usurper Project. Don't worry if you've never heard about it, just hit their lab and get it. I have a hacker who can stick this data into an unsecured part of their network, but it will only be there for 15 mintues before the network daemons see the errant file and move it back behind the firewalls. This means you'll have 30 minutes to get the data before it becomes irretrievable. I work on a clock, and you had best start to get used to it. You will have 30 minutes to complete this mission.
Clock's ticking, Villain, haste not waste!
Ah yes, the one mission that seems to invoke the most panic. This is not a kill all, nor even a kill boss. This is simply get the one and only glowie to end the mission. Yes I know the mission write up says 30 minutes however you only have 15 minutes to complete this mission! The map will have assorted Crey on it. This is where you want maximum invisibility and maximum speed. Everytime I have run this mission it has been a multilevel map with the glowie on the last floor. Just turn invisible and MOVE FAST, and do not engage the Crey in battle. If they spot you and open fire, just keep on going unless you get held somehow. For this mission I recommend you be stocked on purple and orange inspirations and break frees. If this is the last mission Pither needs to give you for the badge, before you start it, if you need to hit your base empowerment station for more invisibility, do so. STEALTH AND SPEED ARE THE KEYS TO THIS MISSION. Keep proceeding through all the floors to the very last floor and search for the glowie, get the glowie and the mission is over. Afterwards feel free to blast all the Crey you desire.
Tip: if you feel your toon is too weak or squishy or if you feel your skills are not up to the challenge of these missions, then do this: have a friend with you when you get the mission, then you both head to the mission door and then you break the team. Mission owner enters to set the map for one person then invites their friend back into the team. However your friend will not get Efficiency Expert badge for aiding you, only the mission owner gets the badge.
Pither's Other Arc: ALONE IN THE DARQUE
This is a 3 part arc, the missions are not timed and they do not count towards Efficiency Expert Badge. You are to locate and rescue his assistant Oliva Darque who has gone missing. This Arc is in the Ouroborus Crystal for you to run as often as you want.
Mission 1: Get Reports from Aeon City
This mission is in Cap Au Diable and you are supposed to retrieve some reports for Pither, However it's not that simple. It seems the Nemesis has taken over the building and Olivia Darque is missing. You must rescue Darque's assistant and find the glowie with the files.
Note: this mission used to be bugged in that clicking the glowie would end the mission however it appears to be fixed in issue 12.
Mission 2: Beat the Truth out of Dr. Aeon
There are two ways to do this mission: kill all the arachnos as you seek out Dr. Aeon then beat up Dr. Aeon to win the mission. The other way is to ghost to Dr. Aeon and beat him up as that's all you need to do to win this mission.
Mission 3: Find Olivia Darque and Escape
Turns out she is in the shadow shard and you have to rescue her and then locate the portal you came in from to escape. However this is NOT a rescue and escort person to the exit, all you need to do is free her. In fact you can just ghost this map as she is always in the Chantry with a few guards around her. Kill the guards, she is free, she thanks you and the mission ends. Now you must get back to the exit ..or just teleport to Pocket D, teleport to your base, or open your Ouroborus Portal. This mission has you fight the Rularuu.
Good things to know about this mission:
1. Nice salvage drops can occur
2. Form a full team and farm it for Overseers for the Visionary Badge
3. If you are a weapon using character then you definitely want to complete this arc as the souvenir from it will unlock the Rularuu weapons for you at the tailor. Also the Visionary Badge can do that as well. -
Some of my own observations about Missions 1 to 3:
Mission 1: wipe out the cave of all Romans and free the 10 then head outside and immediately get to the mountaintop. There is no need to fight your way there, if need be have someone teleport you. Once topside just kill the Minotaur and his goons to free the Oracle and then have someone take her to the altar while the rest of the party deals with the remaining Romans.
Mission 2: There are two ways to do this mission:
Method A: Wipe out the guards at the Cyst Crystal, smash the crystal, wipe out the ambush, repeat process until all are done.
Method B: Wipe out the crystal guards, damage the Crystal but don't destroy it. Repeat the process until the map is empty of enemies and all crystals are damaged. Then each teammember gets to a crystal and all smash the crystals at once then exit the map. This way you can dodge the ambushes.
Mission 3: Wipe out the Ambush that attacks you at the door that way if someone has to hit the hospital they can reenter the mission safely. Try and keep Daedalus alive but if he goes down, no biggie. Some of the Generals do not need to have their goons killed with them for the kill to register as complete, so if you can just pull the General from his mob and take him down you just might speed up the battle. Also the hilltops can be your friend in this map as ambushes and patrols have a tough time climbing the hills. For the Generals in the narrow valley if someone can snipe them and get them near the hillside, they sometimes can make the jump to the hilltop, sometimes not. But you can still hop down by the hillside and kill the General and not aggro his mob, and if the kill registers as complete on the mission objectives then you don't need to kill his mob. Again, stick to the hilltops to get around the ambushes. Get to the clifftop above where Romulus and Requiem are, snipe one of them to pull them up there and defeat them then repeat the process on the remaining one. Then everyone flies, teleports, leaps to the bottom of the pit to smash the Phalanx controls.
