Sounds like either PEBCAK or they used some RMT service.

In regards to the Guardians basically killing themselves, they were commenting on how atrophied they were to the point where only Ganthet had the wherewithall to use his Guardian powers. Also they mentioned how Ganthet's plan was voted down, and we don't know what his plan was but it might have involved them transferring their powers to him and thus "dying", but putting stock in Ganthet's overall plan that would lead to them being rejuvenated.

Remember in Rebirth #4 Ganthet tells Parallax that the memories Parallax stole from him are his again, and Parallax called Ganthet a liar.....this is one time I have to agree that the Guardians were lying. I think the Guardians KNEW that Parallax had taken Hal as a host but they were so atrophied in usage of their powers that they knew they couldn't stop it at the time. So their gamble was to merge their power/essence to Ganthet and await rejuvenation AND for the time when Hal would begin to wake up and realize what was wrong with him.

Or the hotspots where you could park for 21 days and come away with 2 DJ badges. Still in a way I am glad the hotspots are gone.

For Vanguard, your lowbie can still park there and the meter will fill up after 21 days, but until you are L35 the badge won't ding.

Going back to what I said earlier in the thread, there are tons of heroes who have lost far more and reacted far less rashly.
Here's the original plan for Emerald Twilight:

Originally "Emerald Twilight" was scripted by Gerard Jones and according to Previews Vol. III #8 (Aug 1993) and the November 1993 Comics Scoreboard, was to involve two sets of the extraterrestrial altruists known as the Guardians and Hal Jordan, a member of their intergalactic police force, the Green Lanterns, having to choose which set was real. DC Editorial reportedly thought that this story was not interesting enough to draw new readers. Then-publisher Paul Levitz, along with senior group editors Mike Carlin, Dennis O'Neil, and Archie Goodwin, as well as GL editor Kevin Dooley, plotted the "Emerald Twilight" story, which was eventually given to Ron Marz to write, that eventually saw print.

The fake Guardians would restore Sinestro to lead the GLC and it would become more militaristic. Hal was the only one that knew these Guardians were fake but had to prove it as well as dodge the Corps hunting him until he could. His ring would be destroyed, but he would then realize that all his exposure to the emerald power over time including his entries into the CPB changed him so that he doesn't NEED the ring. Also there was going to be a revelation that the Guardians caused Hal's father's death so that he would become more fearless to be a better GL. Hal wins the war, Sinestro and the fakes are beaten but Hal refuses to trust the Guardians, changes his name to the Protector and leaves.

They're great fodder villains, and space is an awfully big place for them to hide.

I wonder if Carol will join with Predator and become the last Sapphire (and possible a hero this time around). There's still plenty to see with the Sapphires. I sincerely doubt Johns has forgotten Atrocious's prophecy.
The Blackest Night Prophecy states that the spectrums will rise and there will be a war of light, and then will come the Blackest Night. My take on this that the arising of the Black energy is to compensate for the spectrum energies aka life energies being so ascendant.

In the Sinestro Corp War, the Guardian who becomes Scar was fried by the Antimonitor and the black energies/Nekron likely latched onto her. I doubt the death of the Guardian that used his life force to banish Super Brat Prime was the catalyst.

As to Atrocitus and his Prophecy to Hal about Hal going renegade due to the Guardians taking his true love away.......prophecies are best taken with a grain of salt, and demons speak with forked tongues. His prophecy to Hal was designed to help shake Hal's confidence in the Guardians and play on his fall from grace when parallax got ahold of him, IMO.

Not to mention how Peter was getting jerked around so much when he was doing the Captain Marvel series.

    Larfleeze seems to be popular.
The Red Lanterns are goofy, but Atrocitus seems like a pet character of Johns.
The Blue Lanterns seem rather pointless, but maybe that's just me.
The Indigo Tribe gets my main vote to be sent to oblivion.
And the Black Lanterns days are numbered.
Well it was the activation of all the other spectrums that prompted the black energy/Nekron to manifest. It's quite possible that some of the spectrum Corps will be gone, and the rest severely reduced in numbers to keep this from happening again.

The Star Sapphires have also had their CPB destroyed by the Black Lanterns. This puts their survival into doubt.

The Blue Lanterns are essentially power boosters for the Green Lanterns. They can recharge a drained ring to double its normal capacity as well as heal both body and spirit and so far it seems only the Blue Light can counter the poison that is the red light and remove a red ring. Their weakness is that for their rings to make constructs and function normally they must be near a green ring.

I can see Atrocitus being the sole Red Lantern, however this presupposes that Guy Gardner gets cured of the red ring he will be getting next month, unless he perishes.

Sinestro......he might perish at the end of Blackest Night but his Corps may live on.

It certainly wasn't "the plan" if such a thing could be said for GL. Even evil Hal wasn't "the plan" until the first issue of Emerald Twilight. It seems to come out of nowhere specifically because it was thrust upon the writer out of nowhere due to DC not being happy with the sales of the title (due to the title being pretty terrible at the time). Heck, the only reason Mongul got to blow up Coast City in the first place was because DC didn't care about it (since in DC cities are mostly extensions of a single hero). I'd guarantee someone, somewhere said, "well Cyborg could TRY to blow up Metropolis, but since no one cares about Coast City would COULD let him succeed and actually blow it up".

It's funny that Hal really never was the same after his retconned first contact with Parallax. That's entirely due to bad writing, but its convenient to fix all that bad writing now. I still like the logic that lead to Hal encountering Parallax in the first place: as a "our bad, sorry" to the people of Korugar the Guardians created a new law that if a Green Lantern ever killed a Korugarian male (including Sinestro, though apparently they can hunt women for sport) everyone in the universe dies. Sounds like a good deal to me!
Yes, Johns thought things out carefully. As to that whole "if the Guardians or GL's kill a Korugarian male the CPB will self destruct" schtick, I consider that a lie that Sinestro's spirit projected from the battery to the telepathic GL's that mind probed it. case in point, part of that tale was the so called origin of the CPB and how the Guardians used their natural BLUE energy to shape a yellow Crystal into the CPB and the result of Blue and Yellow of course is green........yet the Guardians were stated to be the generators of the power that flowed to the CPB and hence to the rings....but when they would use their power.....it was green energy and not blue.

Then when the Guardians get called back by Hal to fight the old timer, the Old Timer commented how they only had their diminished personal reserves of power while HE had it all.

Also the Old Timer when insane from the FEAR of being alone........makes one wonder if Parallax hadn't bonded to the Old Timer to drive him nuts as a prelude to getting to Hal.

Geoff Johns strikes me as one of the few writers with any overall plan and that he clearly thought things out for Rebirth, Sinestro War, Blackest Night and beyond.

Well, the fact that you could beat him to death with a U-turn sign should have humbled him enough to know that he couldn't do anything he wanted without consequence.

The thing is that I could probably name at least 20 superheroes off the top of my head that have lost more than Hal Jordan and yet did not go genocidal. It just doesn't make sense.

I quite agree that Hal's breakdown in Emerald Twilight made no sense and was out of character. However there are other instances in that volume of GL of Hal acting odd before Coast City was wiped. When GL was consigned to Action Comics Weekly, Hal was having issues, then the mysterious alien Priest begins giving Hal lessons and makes him doubt himself, the Guardians, etc. Then comes the encounter with Malvolio where Hal's ring is destroyed and he is forced to use a makeshift weapon and use deadly force against Malvolio. (in other words Hal was afraid for his life and used deadly force for the first time).
Hal takes Malvolio's ring and leaves and Malvolio reveals he isn't dead and then we see that his all yellow palace was a construct and apparently Malvolio was too and that it was a plan to destroy the GLC and Guardians with Hal as the pawn.....

When the series restarted, Hal was like a shadow of himself, loss of confidence which in turn affects the will power and he's content to be semi active at best as GL and let Guy and John shoulder the burden. Then comes the Old Timer Guardian going crazy from FEAR of being alone (hmmm) and Hal is doubting himself at first but pulls it together to lead the fight, get the Guardians back and help bring down the Old Timer.

After that Hal still was having some issues but they were under control until he faced Guy Gardner in ish 25 for the right to be GL of sector 2814. Guy provokes Hal into a fight, and Hal struck first. This leads to a power ring fight which the GLC breaks up and Superman commented this was out of character for Hal. Hal wins the fight and reclaims his sector and all seems well, until Coast City is wiped out. Then he goes bonkers and becomes Parallax. Then he later gives his life to save the sun and later returns as the Spectre. Then comes GL Rebirth and Sinestro states that Parallax is capable of making incredible constructs, thus leading us to beleive that the Sinestro Hal had killed was a fake, but if you trace it back far enough and you can conclude that the whole Malvolio incident and likely Priest as well were also Parallax/Sinestro attacks along with any encounters Hal-Spectre had with Sinestro. All designed to torment Hal and give Parallax total control.

However Hal does have some guilt in the affair in that he didn't see what was happening and that while Parallax was pulling the trigger it was still Hal's hands on said trigger.

Well here's the thing, to me a successful universal reboot needs to have the following:

    1. Plan this well in advance.
    2. Decide how it's going to happen
    3. Plan for what will happen during and after, including but not limited to: casualties, rebirths, and timeline changes such as story changes, origin changes, characters being displaced in time or replaced.
    4. Set definitive rules for continuity.
    5. STICK WITH THE PLAN and don't say "to blazes with it" a few years later (Yes, DC i'm looking at you post first Crisis)
    6. Include the ENTIRE universe don't just reboot core titles, example: only marvel's flagship titles got rebooted in ONSLAUGHT

Lupines? Really? Does Marvel Comics' mutant line exist for the sole purpose of convincing young, aspiring writers that, yes, they can in fact do better than people who are paid for it?
Yes I just about gagged on the whole Lupine garbage. As to the whole Sabertooth being his father, that was the original plan long ago and it was nixed by the editors. I remember there was an issue of Wolverine where Sabertooth claimed to be his father as they fought, Wolverine didn't believe him and after Nick Fury and SHIELD drove off Sabertooth they did a blood test of the two and confirmed they are not related. Funny thing is that given their very similar appearance and power sets and I thought they'd be brothers or cousins.

The whole "Mystical boost" to his healing factor thus bringing him up to Highlander+ levels of regeneration was stupid. He regenerated after being shot towards the sun along with Jean/Phoenix right before Magneto fried her and Wolverine then decapitated him. He later confronts the villain Nitro and is again reduced to his skeleton and regenerates from that. Yet way back in Days of Future Past he is fried down to the bones by a Sentinel and was killed. Go figure.

Xorneto just doesn't make any sense.

The Nightcrawler-as-a-demon, Worthington as a descendant of angels, and Wolverine's lupine thing were all bad ideas. (Was Austen the one that had Husk musing to herself about how she essentially fights naked among the X-Men?) I mean, c'mon, you killed off Sabretooth and tried to elevate freaking Wild Child in his place?! Thankfully, most of this crap has been forgotten. I think that Romulus schmuck is still around though.

The third Summers brother was, to me anyway, a neat mystery for a while. Not crazy about the resolution, but I don't mind it.

The ridiculous history is only part of why I loathe Hawkman.

The Superboy Prime Retcon Punch is goofy, but it's no worse than some of Morrison's Crank inspired crap from Final Crisis.
It's time for Marvel to have their own Crisis level event and reboot the whole blasted Marvel Universe.
