It should be OK, as long as you dont try to pass yourself off as a NCSoft representative
[/ QUOTE ]
This. Though, while it may not be specifically against the rules, I do think it's extremely cheesy to play a cannon character.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ooooooh, Cannons!
I so want the Cannon powerset now. -
[ QUOTE ]
Broadcast would be much quieter. Especially if it didn't tell them how to actually spell the word. There are high school graduates out there with less than a 4th grade reading level. ...And they all find their way to Atlas Park. Then they get distracted by AE farming spam and never leave Atlas Park.
[/ QUOTE ]
Fixed! -
[ QUOTE ]
Before this NERF you could count on, and sort of respect, groups like the Freakshow, the Lost, Nemesis, ect that would stand face to face with you and fight to the last breath to please their boss. Now everyone just up and runs away.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't realize it was the time of year for this thread again.
So few mobs run on me that I never thought this was a problem in any of the many threads on this subject.
I mean maybe 10% of all the mobs I ever fight run. How is this such a HUGE freaking problem? -
Maybe he takes so long to load that he wants to play Tetris while loading the next zone.

Removing the AE buildings from GC, AP, and KR, would essentially make it so you couldn't start leveling in the AE until roughly level 12 or so, at least not safely. That would detract from the devs idea of "The AE is an alternate leveling path from 1 to 50".
[/ QUOTE ]
This sounds amazingly like the old stand-by, "If the devs didn't want farming in the AE, they wouldn't have made it ultra-farmable like they did."
The quote says "leveling path", not "farming-until-you-want-to-puke path", or "PL Central".
[ QUOTE ]
Also, removing it would do NOTHING but move the whole shebang to another zone. If you don't like the AE chatter, deal with it yourself, and stop trying to foist your problems off on other people.
[/ QUOTE ]
Do you mean the people who are presumably so busy farming and getting levels and tickets that they don't give a rat's [censored] about the impression they're making on the new people coming in thinking that this game we love is nothing but farms, farms and more farms? Or do you mean the 4 people over in Galaxy City?
[ QUOTE ]
Let's think about a hypothetical situation. If Talos Island had become the hub for AE farming activity instead of Atlas Park, how would you respond to the threads that suggested removing the building from Talos? If the answer is anything but "I would support them" you're just being selfish.
Then consider this. If we DO remove the building from atlas, within a week, all the farming activity will have moved somewhere else (probably talos). What will you do then, when people come and suggest removing the building from talos? Eventually, there'd be no AE buildings left if the devs listened to every crackpot thread wanting a building removed from someone's favorite zone.
[/ QUOTE ]
Selfish? Who's really being selfish here? The person who does want the AE building removed from Atlas Park so that the new players coming in don't get the idea that this is City of Farms, and have to end up later grouping with someone who doesn't know where anything is beyond Atlas Park, or the person who does not want the AE building removed simply because they don't want the (ZOMG) hassle of going to a different zone when bringing their newest level 1 farm baby into their "favorite zone"?
Yeah, I thought so. -

My fire/fire is my favorite toon ever in all 5+years I've been playing, and yes, he has double build up + tentacles + burn.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. My Fire/Fire was the one toon I had the most fun playing, every step of the way from 1 to 50. And I went with Dark also. -
[ QUOTE ]
At least until I get Tenebrious Tentacles on my Fire/Fire, then all bets are off, cuz it's Burn, baby, Burn time!
[/ QUOTE ]
Every day that goes by, I'm convinced more and more that I made the right decision by getting Dark to add to my Fire/Fire. I wasn't aware how popular Fire/Fire/Dark was when I hit 41, but looking back on it now, it seems a no-brainer. -

MA could not have been intended for this. Shouldn't teams be formed within lvl range with enemies around the same levels? I don't understand.
So here I am, playing an MMO solo. That kinda stinks because the whole point of MMO is teaming up. If I wanted to solo through levels I could just play something on PS.
[/ QUOTE ]
We've been SideKicking since the beginning. Level range has always been almost irrelevant if you have people that can SK the lower levels.
Also, why are you reduced to soloing just because one team wasn't what you were looking for???
[/ QUOTE ]
Because with the huge presence of AE in Atlas and Mercy with level 50s there doing Boss farms, new players get the idea that this is how CoH should be played. This makes almost EVERY team similar to the experience of the OP.
Way, WAY too many players used the SK system and now use the AE's auto-SK system as an excuse to PL. And you can spot them because they accuse everyone else of hating on the SK system.
I wouldn't mind seeing the SK (aka PL) system done away with entirely. Your friend has a lower level toon who wants to play with you? Fantastic. Pull out YOUR lower level toon and play then. What's that? You don't have any lower level toons cause you PL'ed them all? Then you and your friend can roll a couple of new chars to play together. It's not that hard to just do it the way MMO players have done it for years before the SK (PL) system. (Unless of course your focus is not on playing with your friend, but on PLing your friend.) -

But you have time for 21,211 posts. Pfft.
Why not let the person the post was meant for or a person that would actually fit that senario bring that up if it applies. We don't need a bunch of strawmen running around like chicken little.

Knockback is only ever a burden if an enemy flies into the next mob and causes double aggro
just have the tanker Taunt them back otherwise
[/ QUOTE ]
Aggro does not work that way. The only time a mob knocked into another mob will draw additional aggro is if someone chases said mob down and pulls aggro by being near the second spawn.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or if the enemy that's knocked back is an anchor for a debuff toggle. I know I just love looking up to see a horde of +4 bosses charging at me because the Energy blaster hurled my Enervating Field anchor into a mob on the floor below.
[/ QUOTE ] It happens. Targets generally die so fast that I don't pay attention to which particular enemy has a toggle on it.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm telling you, Rad gets no respect. -
[ QUOTE ]
Knockback works better than knockdown.
<ul type="square">[*]When foes "ragdoll" from knockback it takes them a lot longer to get back up. That's more mitigation.[*]Knockdown can't move a foe into a placed debuff or control like Tar Patch, Freezing Rain, Volcanic Gasses, etc.[*]Area knockback can group scattered foes more closely! A spread-out group can be flung into a wall by Gale, Shockwave, etc., and they'll be tightly piled against the wall for AoEs. It can be faster than waiting for them to shoot teir ranged attack, change weapons, and run over to the Tanker to cluster up.[*]Knockdown can't throw someone off a ledge. This can sometimes be handy if you are getting overwhelmed, but it's always hilarious.[/list]
Don't take away knockback because some players can't use it right and others can't mentally adjust to seeing it used. And don't say "But you can add a knockback enhancement to get it back!" unless you're going to spot me the slot to put it into. Why should my powers have (effectively) 5 usable slots instead of 6 to regain the capability they already had?
Teach the players who don't know how to use it. Kick the players who can't learn. Enjoy the tangible advantages properly used knockback give you and your team.
[/ QUOTE ]
This. Well said. I couldn't agree more.
The well-played storm defender shouldn't be handicapped by taking KB away just because the ADD 10-year-old energy blaster can't figure out (or care) how to position himself to blow the mobs against a wall instead of blowing them off the ledge. -

I'm trying to decide on FM/Inv or FM/WP or .. something. I have FM/SR. Perhaps FM/SD but it's overly difficult to softcap...
[/ QUOTE ]
Don't dismiss /FA. The two shields are easily as good as Regen's Integration and you get the biggest and quickest self-heal in the game with Healing Flames. Not to mention easily softcapped Fire Resist, plus an awesome self-rez. -

i need shivans because i have missions i cant complete without them.
[/ QUOTE ]
Let me guess...
Faultline (Kurse and Nocturne), the Zombie Cooties arc (where you can no longer complete it without defeating Doc. V), and possibly the Hollows?
[/ QUOTE ]
er, wait... what? Is the mission with Doc V no longer droppable? Or do you just mean that the good Doctor has been added to the mission completion requirement?
Thank goodness I now make sure my characters have two story arcs open before trying to get the Plague Stopper badge so I never see the arc with Doc V anymore. I always hated getting those darned Zombie Cooties. I used to just drop the last mission in that arc to finish it without having to deal with Doc V. -

Oh, and FYI, there are 13 in all, and each lobby is identical. The skull, for example, in the four different lobbies isn't different. The clues are spread out among the lobby (any lobby)/club area, not four lobbies/club.
[/ QUOTE ]
This wasn't always true. When Issue 12 - The Midnight Hour was first released, and for many months after, the only lobby on the Hero side with the skull was the Steel Canyon lobby. In fact, I used the presence of the skull to verify I had chosen the correct door when leaving the Midnighter Club into Steel Canyon.
You can imagine my shock the first time I chose the wrong door, saw the skull, and was surprised to emerge into Founder's Falls. -

On whole wheat white bread, and the crusts taken off. Cut into triforce shapes.

And what, pray tell, is "whole wheat white bread"?
(Edited out a diatribe against white bread which could have been construed as insulting and/or stereotypical. I never touch the stuff myself.) -

Just popping in to see how my guide is doing.
Anyone finding this info useful?
Please let me know.
Thanks.
[/ QUOTE ]
Been doing things this way for quite a while now, but this is an excellent guide for new people.
The only thing I usually do differently is I don't bother going to see Wincott ever. When I get the mission to go see him from my first 5-9 level contact, I accept the mission and then drop the mission. I can then get that contact's next mission immediately and never ever have to make the long hike to the Hollows. -
[ QUOTE ]
Since we're plugging websites, I used Red Tomax's Guide to City of Heroes - Contacts for part of my post also. lol
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, Red Tomax's site is especially awesome for contacts. It explains the contact progression and who introduces who at what level, all on one easy-to-understand page. I've been using it since he put it up, since I find it to be a concise, all-inclusive source for contact information, and even tho ParagonWiki has the same info, it's spread over several pages and PW is much better for details of missions. -

I want more slots too please. I'd be willing to pay up to 20bucks per slot.

I'm hoping it will be a little more affordable than that! -

[ QUOTE ]
You don't really need to whine about kill-stealing in this game, since the XP reward system still gives rewards for mobs you damaged
[/ QUOTE ]
Reduced xp, though. And it is a problem for a slow damaging AT like controllers when they've gone through the trouble of locking down mob(s) and burning them down only to have, say, a Blaster come by, take them all out, and end up getting the lion's share of the xp in a couple shots.
It *IS* extremely rude to KS. And, no, I'm not going to invite some random jerk to my team because he decides to jump in on my fights while I'm soloing.
[/ QUOTE ]
This, and this exactly.
Nothing is more disconcerting as having a blaster or scrapper (and with the influx of higher levels into Atlas recently), often a higher level one at that, come by and one-shot the mobs you've been carefully setting up and locking down. The early levels, especially, is the time when I'm paying attention to how the mobs take damage, how they resist damage and I start formulating my play style against them, especially on ATs I may not have as much experience with. And as was stated, with controllers or defenders, this takes time. Having some higher level goon come by and blow all my mobs to kingdom come isn't impressive to me, it's annoying as hell.
They call this game City of Heroes. Oh, really? Maybe City of Jerks. I haven't seen a real hero in this game in quite a while. -
Thanks for a thought-provoking guide. Also thanks to the participants in the conversation. Reading this has given me inspiration to go back and finish my first arc, which I quit working on after deciding it wasn't very good. It seems that I was instinctively doing mostly the right type of thing after all, and I now have hope that I can finish it and make it good after all.
Thanks! -

Trial accounts can't send e-mails at all according to this...
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat....=0#Post13406594
I know I was unable to use e-mail when I had a trial account.
So I don't believe they are sending them from trials. I think they are doing it from paid accounts because the chance of them actually being banned for RMT is so rare that they more than make their money back before they have to open a new account. If they've figured out any limits, it's what the parameters are for # of spam reports in a single day that generates a ban.
Or that's my perception.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then can you explain why almost all the spam emails I get have "empty" as the sender? I always assumed these were either trial accounts or accounts that were banned or closed for spamming. -

this game isnt hard to play lol
People dont wanna waste their life away grinding.
99% of the people who play this game PL & its been like that since I started this game yrs ago.
GL to them trying to nerf PL.
[/ QUOTE ]
Um, wait just a minute. What grinding? I mean, come on, man. The missions and story arcs and TFs/SFs throughout the game have great stories. Why is it such a grind to level for people like you? Because you make it that way. If you never read the stories and get into the adventure you will not enjoy the game and you will probably end up just leaving again when your AE farms get nerfed and you can't hurry up the dings all the time any more.
PLing is not what the game is all about and 99% of the players of this game DO NOT do it too, just 99% of the people you happen to see and team with. If you never leave Atlas Park or Peregrine Island you're never going to see teams that don't PL. I suggest you try actually playing through the missions sometime. Take the time to actually read them. Enjoy the story. Stop waiting for the ding of your next level. Otherwise you're just a quitter waiting for a nerf to piss you off.
[/ QUOTE ]
These wonderful "stories" you speak of get old after 1-2 times, if that's your idea of compelling content, then you mustalso enjoy watching grass grow, because I, like many people, grew tired of dev's idea of content long ago.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am so tired of this specious argument.
Why? Because those same people complaining long and loudly about how utterly mind-numbingly boring the content is will sit through the SAME mission over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again ad nauseum because it gives 1.2x the normal amount of mission exp.
PLing is the most utterly mind numbingly boring thing you could do in this game, and yet they choose it over the normal content because the normal content is.... boring. Go figure.
