Cool kids take Soul Storm. Using Tentacles and Soul Storm is conjunction with dark color fire powers automatically makes you a badazz. My Fire-Fire uses Soul Mastery. You can still build for ranged defense if that's your focus, but I love using soul storm because it has the magical ability to draw a league's aggro to a target without saying anything. People see the enemy floating and just lose it and go nuts trying to kill it, hilarious good times.
But hey if you don't want to be cool you can just keep a functional and top tier S/L Defense build.... it's certainly effective but man that's less cool. Being cool is everything amirite?
Here's my build if you are interested, feel free to tell me how I need more recharge IO's in BU and Aim but one is enough for me thanks.

You're doing it wrong. Just spam infrigidate and benumb on every Dom you see. Cus every Dom is /fire, that's the law, so infreegurdates them to cut that damage, and benumb them to ruin their Mezs. As long as you take the fun away from someone else, you're winning.
WINNING!
Oh and maybe you should attack and stuff too, but you know what I say....
Well I don't know, but you do, so there you go! -
Hey bro there's no need to shout.
Duel me bro!
Too late you forfeiigheeiightttteddz.
Winning! -
This post may not make sense to you guys if you haven't played Skyrim yet. Basically "Shouts" and "Shouting" are a huge part of the game, so overemphasized that it's already completely hilarious and asploded the youtubes. The main shout "Fus Ro Dah" is already a meme.
Here is a link for reference:

Anyhoozles, I have a Sonic/Sonic Defender with an old name that I am not particularly attached to, and I'm thinking of renaming her Fus Ro Dah or something similar. This got me thinking about all the other people who still have Sonic Blast toons, what are your toons named and is shouting now more hilarious? Your thoughts? SHOULD THIS POST BE IN ALL CAPS CUS I AM TOTALLY SHOUTING RIGHT NOW? -
There needs to be an ammendment to this for CoH Freedom. Any player who us not a VIP subscriber is automatically at least TWICE as wrong in anything he says, make sure that he knows that untill he is subscribed and part of the greater whole, he has no opinion and no value... not just in CoH but in all aspects of life.
After all, this game > life, it's basic F***king math. -

I'm not that serious about PvP honestly, it's just that I'm traveling a lot lately and hotel wifi + a crappy laptop is a big downgrade from cable internet on my beast rig, so I'm forum-ing more and gaming less untill my life normalizes. This forum is more fun than most of the serious Archetype forums, it's like the intersection of "srs street" and "tryhard blvd".
My posts are for your benifit broskis and hoeskies; If I can make someone laugh with my posts then I have made the world a slightly better place. Ask yourself if WARE and Exile are making the world a better place?
Although perhaps I should actually offer some insight into the stalker build in question... When the HP Cap is raised by 400 or however much they're TALKING ABOUT raising it next issue, you may need those heal IO's you don't currently have in order to take advantage of the new hp cap. That's just some food for thought, I only have one stalker and I can't make a good SC build on her cus she's energy aura, and ENERGIZE is awesome but a level 35 power, which means I can't take it and still take a ranged attack... that really bums me out since SC is the zone I'd actually play her in. -
I just play zero and spam teleport and mash on Fierce Attack, just like EG_Marn. He's my hero, I must be as big of a diiiiiick as possible with Zero or else I have failed him.

Self Esteemz, whut mean dat. If its like how im bettr dan everywun else den yes, I gots it. Also duel me nao, im on somewhere at sometime, and if you don't pm me and say let's duel raht now even though yu dunt know my character name den it menz yu forfit. Coward, I wonz.

Quote:Katana allows your concept to be much more ninja-esque, and therefor ill fitted for duels since a ninja is unlikely to challenge someone to a duel and instead just stab them in the back.
Broad sword on the other hand, you can be a barbarian, a knight, or a guy with a really big sword. All of which are much better for the RP invovled in setting up a duel. Most people will dismiss your Katana character, because of it being a poor dueling concept.
What you should really wait for is titan weapons, it has a parry clone, and it is an even bigger sword than broadsword. So on the off chance you do lose, you can simply explain to them "Mine is still bigger than yours" because really, that is what melee v melee boils down to. Add in regen instead of EA and you'll be set.
Yes duh obviously, but also you forgot to tell him to take soul mastery and spam shadow meld, even when he needs to be attacking. Remember, making an overly defensive build that can't kill the opponent means you're winning. WINNING. Just keep up the defenses with your barrier, add in Burnout for good measure to refresh all your regen shenanigans. Then you will end in a DRAW, that means you're pro! -
There's a lot of Masteries that have a dangerous heavy hitter attack in them that you cooouulllllldddd take, but hibernate is still a useful power to have. The debuff in munitions mastery has an amazing recharge, making powers like the blaster version of melt armor look like trash by comparison, but you'd have to take Tough if you went munitions in order to still have decent resists... noone really wants to do that. There's always KO Blow if you wanna invest some time and unlock patron pools.
As for the rest of the build, make sure you add in whatever hp accolades you have/will be getting, and don't overmax your hp, wasted set bonuses are icky. You can never have too much accuracy in incarnate pvp, everyone has barrier yknow. -
dis is PvP forum dawg, if yu dunt hav a team name in ur sig den u cant talk bout stuff ur git halps herez. Say liek, WARE IS DA BEST and everyone else sucks, especially Todd's Mom. See, that right there will get you some replies, and probably tons of help and maybe even high fives, but no chest bumps cus we aint **** n sheet bro.

I personally have a much easier time flawlessly soloing a door on a BAF when my PB uses her "Pure Nova and Dwarf" build than when she uses the "Pure Human" build. The human form aoes just don't get the job done as well, granted I didn't purple any of them but I do have Flare, Detonation, and Scatter. So at the very least, for myself, I find my AoE dps is still better in Nova, but I don't want to make any claims about single target because I think that might be better on my Human form build.
I keep the shapeshift build about because I consistently play it both at lv50 and on lowbie TFs in order to get a feel for how I compare to other "real" ATs, and when I give 110% and constantly rebuff Inner Light, Essence Boost, Light Form, and Hasten in between every fight I find that the Nova form especially has really improved in the last issue, the massive resists that I suddenly have in it are awesome. Of course, this raises the question of why I would want to play the Human form build, and that's definitely a problem at the core of this discussion. I know I saw someone post that there's no point to shapeshift out of Human form at level 50, and I can't say I agree with that at least in respect to Nova AoEs. -
Just don't run around going "LEEVUHHL 18 HEAL0R LFT" and we will get along just fine. I'd pick a classic buffy set like Force Field or Sonic, something where with minimal active use of your primary you can bolster the team's survival, and still focus on your secondary. The debuffs that Defender blasts apply are downright insane, with Sonic Blast and Dark Blast being solid choices to completely break an opponent.
-
Yeah Ice Blast was a very popular set for damage oriented Defenders before they recently got the option of Fire Blast. A friend and I both have Dark Miasma / Ice Blast Defenders. I incarnated mine to play to her strengths and debuff more, he incarnated his to deal more damage and solo with Clarion keeping his toggles from dropping, but both of us agree that Tar Patch + Ice Storm is like 70times better than Ice Storm by itself. I can see how as a Blaster without such dedicated tools to help you use Ice Storm, it seems like it has issues. I prefer to view Ice Storm as merely a part of a larger AoE damage tool, which is indeed pretty useless by itself. The post about Freezing Rain is spot on, but any good slow field will fix the issue, or an immobilize if you are that hardcore about it and don't think slows do enough.
By the way I do have an Ice/Dev Blaster, and I tend to not use Ice Storm as much on that toon, it's more situational for sure. However it stacks nicely with caltrops, especially when I double damage proc both of them. I feel very good about myself on the door phase of BAFs with my damage fields. -
I think I'm just used to always managing with less. Whether you LIKE to have more defense or more recharge, the fact of the matter is that the recharge route will cost you more inf. Not everyone sits and farms all day, my main source of income is constant lotg 7.5%s from 200 reward merits since I run TFs all the time. However, with how many new toons I make and how many each one needs, most of those actually get used by me rather than sold, so income only comes in from farming and I just don't really sit and farm anymore... it's soul crushing.
-
I would like to preface my response here by saying that I MUCH PREFER MY NOVA/DWARF BUILD. I have a human form only build, it's a second build, and there are a lot of things you can do with it. However, I feel that if you are going to stay in human at all times, it's a good idea to run one or two leadership toggles to buff the team's effectiveness more, which is one thing you CAN'T do on a shapeshift build. That is the route I took.
I purposely didn't take the weak low level blast AoEs, instead only taking the two highest damage ones, Solar Flare and Spring Attack. Also, I will use Jump Kick over Glinting Eye any day of the weak, the two level 1 attacks PB's can take are embarassing, their DPA is so bad. You can dispute that with proc-slotting the powers all you want, but those attacks are bad bad bad bad bad, jump kick should never be better DPA than a primary power.
Yes I went Spiritual Alpha... it's da bomb, and as you guys were saying up there, if you build for defenses you don't really get as much recharge. Well I tended to build for defenses at least partially because defense sets are a lot cheaper than purples on a recharge build, and spiritual alpha helps get my recharges where they need to be.
No PvP IOs, No Purps, I don't have billions to waste.

There are some extra stealth powers at the end of the build for some more, arguably unnecessary, recharge. They could be swapped for any comfort powers some of you like, y'know for those people who love rise of the phoenix or melt armor.

Well that's not really the end of the story, some powers are just naturally very different. Spin outperforms Spine Burst in like every way, it does more damage with a shorter animation time AND a faster recharge. Spine Burst just has a big AoE...
Claws: Spin
Damage: 98.85
Cast Time: 2.50s
DPA: 39.54
Recharge: 9.20s (look at that recharge guys, that's godlike for a PBAoE attack, makes foot stomp look like trash)
AoE: 8ft
Spines: Spine Burst
Damage: 71.08
Cast Time: 3.00s
DPA: 23.69
Recharge: 16s
AoE: 15ft (the only redeeming quality of the power)
The reason that spines deals slightly better AoE dmg than claws is the Damage Aura: quillz. Please keep in mind though that spines has in fact, the worst ST DPS of all Scrapper sets to compensate for having its own damage aura.
Barb Swipe is a waste of your time.
Lunge is your best bet, but still not "good"
Impale is so much worse than focus that it's laughable, even defensively. Focus isn't just a great attack, but a 100% Knockdown makes it great mitigation as well. This makes impale worse both offensively and defensively.
Ripper is acceptable in your ST chain, only cus you have nothing else. Still not good though.
Taking all this into account, and preaching about Claw/Fire Brutes for farming myself, I think Spines is a niche set almost not worth playing. Claws can do just about as much AoE dmg (in a smaller AoE) and still do epic single target damage, making it a superior choice in almost all situations.
I still have one spine scrap, a Spinelec... he doesn't get played much.
As a final note, the values of many of these attacks in the Dominator set "Thorny Assault" are very different, some of those Thorn Attacks have top tier DPA and are really good. -
Grrr complain complain rage rage. This game is hard to enjoy playing sometimes, due to the multitude of ways it screws over its players... repeatedly. Whatever I'll practice my Tekkaman Blade combos in TvC UAS for a while. 28 Billion damage!

I can't really say, I'm not him. I just prefer using the forums to share builds rather than making people give out their email adresses. It's much less invasive. I have done CoPs with him though so that sure is possible.

Here's the Fort Build I currently use on mine for comparison.

So I decided on double maneuvers, almost did double assault but took surveillance instead since you can use that on an AV, still increase team dmg, and it doesn't constantly murder your endurance like another toggle. Also tried to get hp bonuses where I could, I know you have all the accolades so I turned em on, looks like a decent hp number.

Memory Leak still not fixed, and I rolled back my ATI catalyst control driver software as many had suggested. And I did it right too, I unstalled my graphics drivers completely first. And it's set to NOT auto update, so yes, I'm not running version 11.6 anymore. Guess what, I still crash.

Look at the main stickied thread in this forum bro. A number of users, myself included, are having issues with this game and ATI cards, although it seems to really hammer you if you have a 64bit Windows 7 combined with current ATI Catalyst installed. It's some real B.S. and it currently makes the game essentially unplayable for me, with regular crash intervals of 30 minutes or less.
