  1. That would be cool, Zenvious. But what if the winners aren't on Virtue or even part of the Virtueverse?
  2. Oh, okay. I'm looking for someone to donate sketches to be used as prizes for the contest winners.
  3. Would any of you artisticly inclined individuals be willing to donate your time and talent to the mostly-weekly Color Palette Costume Contest?

Please PM me for more specific info. (I feel like being sneaky and secretive. )

    Look!

Very nice! I like it's simplicity.
  5. Duh! An ice cube never even crossed my mind.

I wasn't suggesting you add the thorn pattern to the boots, just to make them the same (solid) color as the thorn pattern on the legs, provided the two pieces would "connect". It's been awhile since I was on test. I'm not sure how those pieces work exactly.
  6. Here's the new palette

Entries are due Sat. the 24th.
  7. And the winners are...

    First Place - Azure Barracuda

    Second Place - The Cryonicist

    Congratulations! You've both won a no-prize!

    New palette coming soon...
  8. Here's my critiques:

Iced Latte – It looks like you’re using some of the i12 costume pieces, and I think it works well for this design. Good breakdown of contrasting colors. Having the white between the two blue parts makes for a good pit stop for the eye and also prevents the design from being “too blue”.

Snowbologram – Great name! Even though it’s a smash-up of two words, it comes out sounding strangely like a real word. The chest emblem goes a long way to add to the illusion aspect of the character, as does the line patterns on the gloves and boots. Did you try using none of the belts? I would think that would add to the otherwise sleek appearance.

The Cryonicist – A great use for the new “thorn” patterns. It can serve as icicles or cracks in the ice. Even the hair looks frozen and spiky. I’m not entirely sure about the chest emblem, however. I see that it was a good place to use the lavender-ish color. Perhaps a different emblem would work better? If the thorn pattern on the leg doesn’t go past the knee, I would leave the colors as is, but make the boots “tights” rather than “leather” in order to get rid of that seam line. If the thorn pattern goes beyond the knee and looks like it could flow into the boot, I’d match the color and still change to tights instead of leather.

Dona N. Pacem – That’s quite an eclectic selection of costume sets/pieces! And you certainly do a good job of making it work. Given that much of her arm is skin, perhaps it might be better to go with one of the bracers? Using the lighter colors to accentuate the belt would help, too.

Beverly Chills – Are you missing a color or am I just blind? Again, good selection of pieces and a color scheme that works well. And again, I’d use a different combination of colors to accentuate the belt, or drop it completely. I vote drop it. Unless, of course, it is necessary for the concept. I love the name.

Azure Barracuda – Here we have a slightly different approach with the white/light grey as the dominant color. Adding the claws powerset to the barracuda/underwater theme was clever. Are those chains wrapped around his neck? I wouldn’t think that would be helpful underwater (rust and extra weight).

Glacial Harpy – She definitely looks like a harpy! Too bad we don’t have monstrous bird feet. The entire package works well with the Cold Domination/Sonic combo.

Snow Raven – Ah! More wings! Given that these shots were snapped during the night, they’re a little difficult to make out the distinct colors. From what I can make out, however, looks like a good combination of costume pieces.

Trance-Fusion – Glasses and goggles seem popular this round. It could just be my monitor here at work, but it looks like you could use a little more contrast between the two colors on the chest and leg patterns. They’re tough to make out. The same goes for the chest emblem. Everything else works really well, especially using the non-blue color on the belt.

Frost Wolf – And last, but not least – the wild card. I don’t have access to the VEATs yet, so I’m not familiar with the degree of customizability in the Arachnos soldier costumes. But, I like what I see. I might’ve switched the deeper blue and lavender-ish colors as far as dominance goes, but that’s just a personal preference.
  9. Open Beta on test is available to everyone now, so I'll allow i12 pieces. However, VEATs aren't available to everyone. How do the rest of you feel about those pieces being eligible?

I've updated the page with everyone's entries. Hopefully, I'll have my critique ready within a day or two. Hope you all had a good weekend.

    And here's your next palette!

Deadline is Saturday, May 17. Good luck and get creating!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Where are you getting these palettes? I went to the URL that was posted and it was a... software development firm?

    I is confuzzled.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I got the palette from kuler.adobe.com originally, and Seraff matched it as well as can be to the Character Creator colors. The link above should take you to a jpg of the color selection. I'm not sure how you got to a software firm.
  11. That is one nasty-looking rabbit!

I was messing around with the palette on test last night, but I didn't take any screenshots. Maybe I'll show it off later.

    Remember, entries are due Saturday!
  12. Here's the gallery of entries so far. And this time, it should work in IE.

    Here's my attempt.

That's great! i love the name.
  14. Glad you're having fun with this, Baisleac.

Hopefully, it'll be a good mix of palettes, but if you ever feel like I'm being repetitive, lemme know.
  15. The image won't load for me Alt. Could it be an exceeded bandwidth thing or just an inaccurate path?

    YAY!

Also feel free to use the named color chart in my sig so you don't have to make those scrawls around the colors :P

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow! You really went all-out on that one, didn't you? I think we can simplify it a little. We could use letters and numbers in a bingo-style "Use colors B4, H2, E9, etc.." or we could use a more coordinate system - "Row 4, Col 5".

    What do you all think?

Nice job on the group shot, Seraff. Very cool.

And now for the critique! Sorry it took so long. I ended up cramming on my final project for HTML class. And if you've tried to check the link with Internet Explorer, and can't see anything, I'm trying to figure out why that is. Otherwise, if you use Firefox or Safari - happy viewing.

    Jack Daw -
Good mix of colors. It almost looks as if there’s a Native American motif (perhaps if he had a different skin color). Still, nice job.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But he's supposed to have a Red Complexion--he does on my monitor.

    [/ QUOTE ]

...I think that might be my bad i forgot to get the skin color right when I made that Collection page - sorry mate

    [/ QUOTE ]

I wasn't looking at your collection page when writing my critique. Sorry about that, dd. It looked kinda salmon-ish to me. Were you going for Native American or just something different?

Seraff, looks like you're creating a new All-Star Squadron.
  18. [ QUOTE ]

I hope this works well, Meet Iced Latte! Hell is about to be frozen over!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nice! Are the new patterns available on live now, or did you make this one on test?
  19. And here's your next palette!

  20. And the winners are:

    1st Place – Green Week
    2nd Place – Vipertail

Congratulations! You both win a no-prize!
  21. Nice job on the group shot, Seraff. Very cool.

    Gamma Gaia -
Good consistent use of color scheme. Very Golden/Silver Age inspired. Is she an Earth ‘troller?

    Jack Daw -
Good mix of colors. It almost looks as if there’s a Native American motif (perhaps if he had a different skin color). Still, nice job.

    Vipertail –
Is that Lock or Dagger on the legs? Well, whichever it is, I like the way it plus the brown color gives a sense of a snake-like pattern. The open-ended sleeves with the short gloves are an interesting choice. I’ve never considered it, myself. The green laser sight on the bow ties it all together. The only thing that’s not quite working for me is the Enforcer boots. The padded pattern would go towards the snake motif, but it might work better with the dark brown from above. The golden color could then be used as an accent on the main part of the belt. And with the boots being that darker turquoise color, perhaps you could make the gloves match it.

    Green Week –
This one really works well for me. The dominant use of brown and the lighter tan colors combined with the limited use of the green and blues ties everything together for an environmentally minded hero.

    Cromus the Mighty –
I am immediately reminded of the old CrossGen comic, Brath and the Braveheart movie (which is probably what you were going for) by this design. I’ve never had a reason to use the kilts yet, but you make it work for this Celtic-themed warrior. The medieval gloves look a little out of place. I might’ve gone with one of the leathers, but that’s me. I doubt I would’ve resisted the temptation to make the warpaint blue. Kudos for not falling into that cliché.

    ZoyBean –
If the colors were slightly different, I’d say her top looks like snake-hide leather. And kudos for using the big socks! That’s another costume piece I’d like to work into a character one of these days. Overall, the color scheme works well, although the balance leans heavily in favor of the green. To cure that, I might consider using the cape’s main color on the gloves and socks. The turquoise/blue colors seem a little out of place – perhaps using them on the belt would help. Also, I’d consider using the main cape color on the mask.

    Retron –
I’m not sure what sort of theme you had in mind (is he an alien, demon, or even a troll from The Hollows?), but this guy looks like a well-dressed whatever he is. Perhaps he’s classy or aristocratic. Anyway, I like the color scheme here – well-balanced use of cool colors overlaying neutral/earthy tones. One minor suggestion would be to change the belt to something simpler, more tuxedo-friendly.
  22. The page of soybean entries has been updated.

I have another palette picked out, which I'll try and post tonight. Going to work on critiques for the entries, too. Is 2 weeks too long? Should I shorten the deadline to a week?

    I created:

Tell me if you need better screenies

    *edit*

Yeah, you will; the green is on the trim for the armor, and you can't see it in the screenshot >.< I'll take better ones later today.

I need your updated screenshot ASAP!

Here's the page so far... It's far from being finished. There's quite a bit I need to tweak, but I have to take off to see Iron Man.
  24. Looks nice, Niviene. Welcome to the contest.
  25. Either that or I'm just not as cool as Chisoku.
